Sports-writer Darragh Maloney is phenomenal in this documentary, discussing the early days of Irish soccer/football. Maloney guides the viewer on a fact-based story on the dawning of a new era in sport for Ireland on the cusp of the 19th/20th century. I learned a lot from this segment, and enjoyed listening to the testimony given by the various scholar-professionals. I also found the video-footage and pictures to be incredibly useful in helping to imagine what the rivalry of the north at Belfast, and the south at Ireland must have been like for citizens coming from Catholic and Protestant backgrounds. I give this one 👍 👍. My respect for the International game that is ⚽ has increased. So much history.
Ironically with this current virus the eve of the FAI 100th anniversary split in 1921 that the current mess in financial may cause the realignment of the 2 Irish Football Associations due to financial issues and changing demographics.
Politics of the day indirectly and the makeup & the location of many of board members being mainly North Eastern based of the IFA hierarchy over a cup reply sown the seeds for the split. This new Unite the Union cross border cup sponsored by the Unite trade union and the possible European super league may cause people in both sides of the border to realise a one body football association maybe the only option. Called IFA or Football Ireland Association or some other new name maybe required. Other aspect is rhe IFA are on the IFAB rules board
