- Tasmania Day 2 - Stanley to Tullah
Today’s riding explained a lot about why motorcyclists love riding in Tasmania. We covered a thrilling and popular gravel road and one of Tasmania’s best twisty bitumen roads.
We left Stanley and headed for the Western Explorer via Roger River to ride the 80km stretch of the Wild Wild West gravel road to Corinna. This is a wide, well-graded gravel road which is undulating, twisty and very steep in places. It is a popular route for 4WD’s. Today there was a huge queue of vehicles and caravans waiting to cross the Pieman River on the Fatman Barge - it can only carry 2 vehicles or 1 caravan at a time.
We then continued on to Reece Dam before riding another of Tasmania’s great bitumen roads - Pieman Road, which was in good condition. Finishing the day off with a short stint on the Murchison Hwy to Rosebery for fuel before returning to Tullah was another great ride.

I rode the western explorer from Stanley to Strahan in November ‘23 on a fully loaded GS Adventure. One of my most enjoyable rides in Tasmania.
That's great - I think the ride gets better and better...
Tasmania is certainly on the bucket list of places to go...........just need enough spare days to be able to enjoy it properly :)
yes, it'd be very easy to spend two weeks there. Our previous trips were 8-days - 11 was better!
My visit to Tassie was 2.5 months from 26 Oct’23 till 9 Jan’24, covering 7,500km.
I did this road a couple of weeks ago on my lap, fully loaded GSA, and absolutely loved it, I went the opposite of what you did. Pete - The $hithouse ADV Rider
Yes it's a nice road and very big-bike friendly. It was even better than expected...
Your videos really have a polished edge to them now, and it was awesome to remember our trip there riding around Tassie!
It would be great to see perhaps a second camera view of the rider and some engine noise too...
Thanks, the GoPro sound on this one was terrible using the mod with no external mic. Next one...
