- Tasmania Day 6 - Kermandie to Ross
After breakfast at the Kermandie Hotel, we met Darrel Young at the DS Cafè at Huonville for a chat about his wonderful ‘Ride the Byroads’ project. And that’s what most of our ride was about today - riding part of the Byroads (RtB) gravel route to Ross.
This was a great start to the day because the route totally bypasses Hobart. We rode through to Bushy Park then to Ouse, then more gravel to Arthur Lakes Roadhouse for lunch, and finally Interlaken Rd before a bit of bitumen to Ross.
As soon as we arrived, it was a dash to Bakery31 for a beautiful Scollop Pie and a walk around this amazing heritage town which is full of history. The people here were also very nice - we went for a walk out to the Ross Female Factory which should have been closed, and the lady responsible to lock-up, simply said “look through for a half-hour or so, and I’ll be back later to lock up when you’re done”.

Thanks. For us it was a nice-change ride in the East, hadn't done the dirt roads before - one of Toni's favourite days.

In following along (or should I say travelling with you) I'm taken straight back to my years of exploring on bikes. Especially reminiscent of when I had my R75/5 BMW.
The gorgeous tones of your two awesome bikes instantly take me back to those halcyon days (circa 1962-1976) spent riding from/to Deniliquin, traversing three states mainly, but also some longer adventures involving an attempt in the wet heading for The Alice along the Oodnadatta Track. From Sydney, via Adelaide.
Then Sydney -Mt Isa -Alice Springs -Adelaide -Riverina - Bathurst -Sydney. As well as an attempt in the wet heading for The Alice along the Oodnadatta Track, again from Sydney.

Oh cherish the Waddamana bridge photo, sadly it collapsed in March.
They are replacing it but sadly not with that lovely looking suspension bridge.

Hi Ride Day, I love your videos not only because they are so well put together and interesting, but because the trip notes are so handy. Can you please tell me what editing software you use? And do you use GoPro cameras, or something else? Thanks.
Thank you. GoPro 10 and software editing Toni uses Adobe Premiere and David uses Final Cut Pro.

Hay mate my mother lives in Cambelltown, she used to live in Ross and prior to that Tunbridge. I’m not from from , but ridden around a lot of Tassie around 4 times .
Beautiful ride. Trucks are a bit daunting. How’s the temperatures? Really love ur vids and the off road tracks. How do you find these roads every single trip you make has been awesome. Thnx for sharing
Thanks. This was a January ride, temperature fresh in the morning, but lovely later on. We are always looking and searching for roads to ride whether they are sealed or dirt. Sometimes just picking a place to ride to and working out if there are roads to that destination that we haven’t ridden.

We moved to the Mitas E07+ tyres (50/50) because we still want a good quiet road tyre, but a good dirt tyre too. The front got 20000 and the rear is getting 8-10 thousand. Had 3 rears, need 4th. On second front.
I’d also recommend our Jacob’s Ladder ride. I particularly like the ride after Jacob’s ladder which I didn’t expect.

That's interesting. I guess Campbell Town is a bit bigger than Ross to live and pretty central to the major cities.
