    THIS SCENE IS LEGENDARY!! I think it's the funniest scene in the history of television comedy. Archie throwing it back at Mike. Telling the Meathead that it's him that was the Bigot all along. Preaching to Mike and Gloria about "Lady Liberty" standing there in the Harbor with her torch on high. "Send us your poor, your dirty, your dead beats. And they came crawling in like ants. Your Japs, your Chinamen. Your Krauts and Your Hebes." "And they're all free to live in their own separate sections." "THAT'S WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT BUDDY!!!" Archie's Hair Brained, Twisted Logic, is what made All in The Family so great. This scene even edges out Archie's view on religion. When God had Samson take a Jawbone out of the Grass and destroy the Army of The Philippines!!! Ten notches above classic!! Norman Lears Master Work was a beacon of how brilliant television comedy once was. When the World took itself just a little less seriously.

    • @750count
      @750count 4 роки тому +1

      Funny line
      Even if the only thing people know about them is from the news
      Which means they know almost nothing
      Violence gets coverage and the vast majority of the actual peaceable protest gets little coverage

    • @750count
      @750count 4 роки тому

      @Bend Me Shape Me So I guess that means you are for protesting as long as it's peaceful?

    • @750count
      @750count 4 роки тому

      @Bend Me Shape Me Yes violence can be an element at times
      But if you have ever actually been part of one you would see that they are largely peaceful
      There are protesters that want to get violent but it is the minority
      What I have observed is that the tensions rise significantly when riot police arrive on the scene
      Conversely much less tension when not there
      By the way if you don't like violence
      You definitely want to stay away from celebrating this day

    • @750count
      @750count 4 роки тому

      @Bend Me Shape Me Haha

      I am an American and I love freedom
      I am certainly not a cop hater unless they murder someone of course
      I can sort out the good from the bad
      And I am definitely not a veteran hater. I leave that to the government

    Note that Archie worked on a loading dock and was able, on his income, to own a house in Queen's, and support his wife, daughter, and son-in-law. Why can't a person who works on a loading dock today do likewise? What has gone wrong?

      @@NJGuy1973 I agree completely. I would also add that the following year (1972) then - President Richard Nixon made the pilgrimage to China, the end result being the export of jobs and manufacturing to that country and also to others.

    I'd like to offer another "Bicentennial Minute". You see, the phrase "Dad, burn it anyway!" has a deep meaning in our history. In 1775, Thomas Jefferson found that the King of England had sent a decree to the colonies requiring a tea tax. He and his family had a copy of it. Thomas complained about it along with his father, Mr. George Jefferson. George wanted to throw the decree into the fireplace. They both agreed that taxation without representation was disgraceful. They asked Thomas's mother Louise what she said about it. She said it was the king's order and they all had to obey it. Whereupon a frustrated Thomas turned to his father George and said, "I don't care what mom says. Dad, burn it anyway!" (Patriotic music starts here). So, there you have it: "Dad, burn it anyway!" helped ignite the American Revolution. That's the way it was 200 years ago today.
