@stephen7072 but the thing I most respect about this show is no other show would really show what an average father and boyfirend, son etc in the 60s or 70s was dealing with, especially Archie and Mike. trust me my father and older brother was somewhat the same regarding the draft and Nixon

@@yankcaptain3942I'm sure he knew that. He meant in the later episodes probably. Meathead was disrespectful AF to Archie, LATER ON, when he lived there. I always thought that Archie Bunker was a racist which could lead one to believe that the actor was in private. After seeing an interview, Carrol O Conner stated that he did not personally like to portray himself as a bigoted man, was very reluctant at times to act in that manner but was under contract to do so. He played the role of A.B. perfectly! I still sing the opening song to the show and cannot get it out of my head after all these years!

Yes and if you are going to expect for a man to allow you to live with him for four years, you humble yourself to him. Also dress real nice and not come with bad clothing as well as a not groomed beard. Yes Archie was a racist and yes he was ignorant but Meathead should of swallowed his pride until he got to know him better.

That was my first thought too. You're a guest in his house, being served dinner. You don't have to agree with Archie's opinions, but you have to respect his right to have them. Instead, Meathead becomes belligerent, condescending, and insulting, calling him "ignorant". Archie should've booted his ass out of the house immediately for that remark.

In the original pilot episode, in which the show was called Justice For All (1968), Michael was already living with the Bunkers. However, his name wasn't Michael but Richard- a college hippie. They kept the character Gloria . But the family's last name was Justice not Bunker. The theme song in the second pilot was also its title: Those Were The Days (1969). The 1970-1971 aired pilot episode was All In The Family It used the same plotline from the original unaired pilot. A little trivia: of the three pilot episodes, Those Were The Days is the only one not to have the world All in its title. In case you're wondering, Tim McIntire played Richard in the original pilot and Gloria was played by Kelly Jean Peters.

@@MichaelSmith-zh2px For years people thought the original unaired pilot was lost. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first to use videotape. There are some fun things to look for in the 1968 pilot: microphones just above the set, the set is slightly slanted (especially by the front door), Gloria accidentally hits a lampshade while serving Archie and Edith orange juice and Edith's party hat falling off when she accidently bumps into part of the low hanging ceiling. All in all its a great episode. What makes it somewhat unique, is that it was filmed in the middle of the protests happening at the time.
