This is totally priceless!!!! Today's TV just doesn't even begin to hold a light to it. I'm so glad I grew up in the 1970's. I have been collecting my favorite TV shows from that decade on DVD. Glad to have the complete set of "All in the Family" seasons in my collection.
You must've missed the part when Sammy told Archie, "After spending these marvelous moments with you, I can honestly say, you ain't better than anybody." The audience certainly loved it.
The writers were actually terrified to write Archie's dialogue for this episode, fearing they would offend Sammy Davis Jr. He assured them "I toured with Sinatra for years; you can't say ANYTHING that will insult me!"
And Sinatra LOVED Davis Jr. Sure, he made off-colored remarks to Davis at times in jest, but he was instrumental in getting Davis into Vegas hotels and showcasing his talent. Man, the world is a lot less good with those two monster-talents gone.
This is my favorite episode from this series, I mean who doesn't love Sammy Davis Jr. ? I love Isabel Sanford's reaction and Jean Stapleton's one liners are classic "you forgot your floor" lol
That last moment could've been the biggest laugh in the history of TV. And All in the Family was the #1 most important, ground-breaking show in television's history as well. Broke all the rules, was hilarious, and will never be repeated. Carroll O'Connor was one under-rated, fantastic actor. Rest in peace my friend, and thank you.
This is my number one All in the Family episode. I love Sammy Davis Jr. and this show . This is the best show I have ever seen growing up . Thank you .
All in The Family was a great show! One of the first show that dealt with matters from Race,ERA,Sexual Issues, & More! They did it with love & humor, The had an unbelievable cast!
"But whatever made you turn Jew" LOL This show was sound so groundbreaking in it's ability to tackle any social issue head on and still make you laugh out loud.
"Note: O'Connor and Davis were longtime friends and when Davis expressed an interest in appearing on the show, O'Connor and Lear came up with the idea of having Davis as himself but doing most of his parts in ad lib form to make it more natural. The kiss at the end was O'Connor's idea. The unrestrained laughter was the longest in television history; it was cut short in the final print to allow Archie to say the last line on screen. "
You know this was one of the most progressive, 'SJW' shows of its time, right? Other shows of the time featured genuine bigotry, this one satirised it.
@@DodderingOldMan You shouldnt pride yourself with "Progressive label though" look up late 1800s eugenics, progressives supported it. Its not like a consistent thing with those folks :P. The whole comedy of All in the Family is Archie is uneducated but has experience, Meathead is educated but has no experience. Thats the joke, they get all up in arms and thats why its such a gold show
Back in the good ole days when we could laugh at ourselves. Shows like these broke down the barriers and made us realize how we could laugh at ourselves and love each other. In high school in the 70's, I had friends of all races. I feel blessed to have grown up in those days.
lmao I love Sammy's calm and cool attitude about everything Archie is saying to him and then his indirect insults that he slyly throws back. This show is amazing^^
Edith and Archie remind me so much of my grandma and grandpa. My grandma recently died, and it's very comforting to watch this! We would spend hours laughing together watching All in The Family!
This episode is every bit as thought-provoking and funny as it was when it first aired. I read somewhere that Sammy Davis Jr. improvised all his dialogue...it was spot-on!
God, I loved this show, when it came out and I was like 13 or 14 years old...........anyone who doesn't think this clip is hysterical is brain dead..........remember how groundbreaking this was! It was TOTALLY different from anything Americans had seen on TV....it's like early seventies!
Carroll O'Connor was a brilliant actor, and Archie Bunker exemplified that. He made Archie an endearing American icon. Everyone loved him. He may have had some ignorant prejudices, but as the series progressed, we learned that they were prejudices that were ingrained in him from his upbringing. He always had a heart of gold. Sammy doing the show was great! Sammy knew the show was a statement about society's prejudices. I wish shows today would be as "politically incorrect", but honest. Great TV.
William I wouldn't find it funny at all. I am pretty sure you wouldn't find it funny if a Black guy kept talking shit about White people on a show, would you!
I think it's hilarious that people watch this show and actually think it's not Politically Correct. It's supposed to represent the end of Segregation and the final holdouts that aren't ready for change. Archy isn't the hero in this show. He is the buffoon representing the racists that are dying out. Sadly, they didn't die out completely.
I came across the name Archie Bunker when reading about Cartman from South Park where it says Eric Cartman is like a little Archie Bunker..... I then searched Archie Bunker and got to know this show. I was hooked ever since Archie is a legend. His lack of timing and filters when he speaks, his malapropisms etc crack me up
'He's a nice guy, mr.Davis, not the kind that would burn a cross in your front lawn or anything. 'No, but he would toast a marshmallow on it!'. This stuff is golden. 😄❤👍

"you musta told him where we were cause somebody came and got us" hahahahahahahah oh man that killed me
hysterical. you couldnt do this on t.v today. great acting, great writing, one of the best in television history.
"There's good and bad in all races"
The most important line in the whole clip.
Before we all went "Woke"....great comedy.
You must've missed the part when Sammy told Archie, "After spending these marvelous moments with you, I can honestly say, you ain't better than anybody." The audience certainly loved it.
They don't make television like this anymore.
More's the pity.
They can't. To many snowflakes with sand in their Vaginas.

40 years later and still hilarious!

Daniel Ryan Ha ha.....that’s so cool!!😄
Sammy approved & suggested part of the dialogue, the kiss was his idea, & got the longest laugh in sitcom history at that point.
Whenever he saw them together, Rickles would crank it up that much more.
Wow
This is probably one of the best episodes this show did
I'm black myself, and this show was brilliant lol. Comedy based on real opinions and real facts is always the best comedy.
I agree. It was certainly not intended to be anti-black. In fact it is Archie who is always the fool.... but well meaning.
And u were never offended, right?
Amen
@@janesmith9024 Mr Jefferson was just as racist as Archie.
Your what? Gross!
This is my favorite episode from this series, I mean who doesn't love Sammy Davis Jr. ?

"Whatever made you turn jew?" love that line.
All in the Family has some of the longest, live audience laughs in TV history. This show always makes me feel happy.
Forget Seinfeld, this is the greatest sitcom of all time.
Seinfeld is the best of the last 30 years , All in the Family is the best of the last 50 years. Both gold
M. Ael agree!
Your damn right about that..!!
It would of been if Reiner hadn't of left.
For sure 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Well, you must have told him where we were, cuz somebody came and got us" - - What a line. Almost spat my beer out.
This show will never die and it should be remembered as one of the best comedies of all times.
Classic, one of the best 10 minutes in television history!!...
This has to be one of the best skits in the shows history.....hilarious !!
This is a great show, I wish it was on Netflix.
Max Power n
Great idea! I'll be in that.
Netflix is too leftists

Jean Stapleton was no slouch either. An amazing actress on screen and stage.
Archie invented the photo bomb!
No,Sammy did.
Beautiful!! Comedy gold!!

Sammy was such an awesome person
2:14 "Get outta Here!" to the little girl. LOL What an awesome scene this whole clip is.
I love it when he screams at the little tap dancing girl:"Get out of here!" Still makes me laugh out loud.
Easily the best episode of the entire AITF series. Just amazing comedy!

The craziest thing is, they would never allow a show like "All In The Family" on prime time TV today! And that's progress?

I love old tv shows with people of all ages getting important roles... The 70s had many nice tv shows..
Truly one of the worlds greatest entertainers
A fresh box of Twinkies for Mr Davis! Only the best for Sammy! 😊
In the seventies when l was living in Thunder Bay Ontario l used to this show all the time, l remember that kiss as if it was yesterday.
And I remember watching this episode as well as many others live . Great entertainment those days. Showbiz will not ever be the same.
Every generation says that
Oh so many classics from the 70's what a showArchie was hilarious! Sanford & Son was another funny show.
A classic! ❤️We were glued to the set for All in the Family.
The last part of the clip had to be the most priceless reaction I've ever seen on Archie's face
Sammy was the greatest

best scene, in the best tv show ever, when Sammy gives Archie the kiss...

Archie reminds me of my cousin upon learning I was hit by a Chinese driver."A Chinese driver and a Jewish lawyer-I wonder who's gonna win that one."
Great I never thought I see the again lots of laughs
LOL. This is wonderful but I don't think anyone but Carroll O'Connor could have played as Archie Bunker due to his work for civil rights.
One of the best sitcoms of all time
"How can you resist? Room, board, chains".😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
