That's Ian Gillan singing every single note of that song, high and low
IAN GILLIAN MY MAN!!
Well, It's hard to get the highs and lows like that, like him.
Yes, sir! They picked this guy to play Jesus in the original London cast of Jesus-Christ Superstar for a reason! ;-]
My fav 70's front man, personally.
Gillan, near Jeesus.... Im not religious but if I was... Jeesus would be Gillan.....
... Listen him, great.... Gillan I mean..
Deep Purple "Highway Star" is the classic rock 'n roll one you guys need to hear. Child in Time is a really long great song but Highway Star instantly sums up the rock sound of Deep Purple in all of their glory.
nails it. "Highway Star" is a must!!!!
Queens of the Stone Age. No one Knows, could use a reaction. #Freethinkers
ive been telling them this for months. they would love this band.
There’s soo many other songs from them!

Deep Purple are a British band and considered one of the early innovators of hard rock. They didn't have too many 'hits' in America save for "Hush" and "Smoke On The Water". The band has had 3, arguably 4, significant line-ups from the late 60s to mid-70s, otherwise known as Mark I, Mark II, and Mark III. Deep Purple In Rock was the first album from the Mark II lineup featuring Ian Gillian on lead vocals and Roger Glover on Bass, rounded out by founding members Ritchie Blackmore on guitar (also founder of Rainbow), Jon Lord on organ, and Ian Paice on drums.
luisalonsoecheverria Perfect Strangers,Knocking on your Back Door,Kentucky Woman, Hush,Demons Eye,Smoke on the Water,Highway Star,My Woman from Tokyo...i can keep going. Deep Purple had many hits here. Child In Time was even a hit..it had a shortened edit just for radio airplay...
luisalonsoecheverria the funny thing is, if you listen to "Hush" and then "Perfect Strangers" the common listener will have no idea they're the same band... lol
Space Truckin!!
The band had later hits that made the rock charts, but never on the Billboard Hot 100. In the United States, Deep Purple only had 3 Top 40 hits: "Hush", "Kentucky Woman", and "Smoke On The Water". More of their songs were probably played on FM Radio when it was just taking off, which helped them gain popularity, but the singles for "Child In Time" and "Highway Star" never charted in the U.S., and U.S. mainstream rock charts wasn't a thing until the early 80s.
@@luisalonsoecheverria It's "Gillan", not "Gillian"
THE GLORIOUS HAMMOND ORGAN!

"Perfect Strangers" was a reunion album for Deep Purple. The singer shown here even did an album with Black Sabbath just prior to this. You'd appreciate any song on either album! "Born Again", Black Sabbath is that album. Trashed was a killer track on that one.
I know I am late to respond but Deep Purple is often considered one of the big three of hard rock along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The band is still active today with one original member (drummer Ian Paice) and two members from this lineup (singer Ian Gillan and bass player Roger Glover) still active. Keyboardist Jon Lord passed away and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is now doing Renaisance style music with his wife Candice Night in the band Blackmore's Night. This lineup is referred to as the MK II lineup and is pretty much considered the ultimate Deep Purple lineup.
You guys rock, gives me so much fun and pleasure... great show t watch when Im down!
"In Rock" was a masterpiece. DPs best years must have been 1970-73 before it all started to implode. I loved Led Zep (saw them live here in Australia in 1971) and regularly play several of Page's guitar solos but the ones I play most (and more of) are Ritchie Blackmore's. I think it's meaningless and silly to say anyone in particular is the "world's best guitarist" but my favourite rock guitarist, most days, is Ritchie. The very fact he plays those great guitar solos in the studio just the once (and different next time) blows my mind.
Once again, here I am, asking for some Faith No More. :D

Nine Inch Nails - Closer
Deep Purple is one of the most important bands in the genre. Many people credit Led Zeppelin more than them, but that's because they were just more popular in the US. Purple was never that big there. But they are the key between the classic rock and the heavier stuff that came after them. Ritchie Blackmore for me is the most underrated and genius guitarist of all time and you can hear some of the elements of his playing in the later more modern metal.
I'd like to second this whole comment.
@Martin Simeonov - Agreed 100%, Deep Purple have been, IMHO, more influential than Led Zeppelin.
The thing is: Led Zeppelin have so many genres, blues, hard rock, rock and roll, reggae, folk, psychedelic, Indian, metal.
Goddamn Electric ye, but deep purple play many genres too
Deep Purple: hard rock, blues, rock 'n' roll, jazz, classical, psychedelic, prog', metal.
Not xylophone, Its The Hammond B3 Series Organ: with The Leslie Speaker
Lord never used a Leslie speaker. He'd overdrive thru a Marshall stack
@@mfranzusan3014 @ 4:24 minute mark Is that not the control for Leslie? I'm not saying they didn't mic thru, was probably necessary to be heard.
ua-cam.com/video/OorZcOzNcgE/v-deo.html
It does look like a Leslie switch, but I remember in an interview, Lord said he was never a fan of a Leslie speaker, he wanted a more powerful sound, so that's why he had it overdriven thru a Marshall stack. It could have been a switch wired up like an overdrive pedal.
Thank you... Finally glad to see quite a few ppl knew that was a Hammond Organ, a very popular instrument of bands during the 60s, 70s and in some 80s music! My music teacher in school gave me his before he passed. I also know that Hammond Organs are very popular in Churches for the musical hymns!
Deep Purple - Space Truckin'
Ian Gillan is one of the best voices in rock for sure. Still sounds good and he is in his 70s
He actually did some amazing work on Black Sabbath's Born Again, a highly underrated album IMO.
Deep Purple is one of the awesomest classic rock bands ever. They still churn out great sounding music that doesn't have that God awful "modern rock" or "nu-metal" sound.
Ian Gillan can't sing anymore buddy....He's been brutal since before Born Again !!!
He is also well known for singing the role of Jesus in the original Broadway cast of Jesus Christ Superstar. His version of Gethsemene is amazing.
I saw them in concert last year and his speaking was so garbled that I couldn't understand what he was saying.
I can always tell when Ryan enjoys a song because he's far more verbose in his commentary than he usually is. When there's thrash or more traditional styles of metal, his responses tend to be a single or couple of sentences. But when there's anything with a prog bend or a classic rock style (he has commented that he enjoys 'transitions'), he's way more engaged in the tune and far more emotive in his response. George more seems to enjoy the thrashy fast stuff (he often comments one wicked drum patterns or guitar solos that slay). I not only watch this channel for the intelligent reviews but for the dynamic personality (the unspoken stuff) of both guys. You're yin and yang. Emotion and logic. Incomplete without the other. This is easily one of my favorite subs for 2018. Every take is fire. The world needs more like Ryan and George.
Okay, now please do Death - Spirit Crusher. I comment this on every video. This is the song you should have first listened to. ;)
kahwigulum Crystal Mountain should have not been their first Death song! Pull the Plug is my favorite
Ryan did his best review on this one. It was a review. No rock magazine or whatever, could describe the emotion of this song better.
I agree. Crystal Mountain is to straightforward not a good introduction to the band death. They need to hear some flare dynamic elements in the song. They to hear either spirit crusher or scavenger of human sorrow.
They liked the music from Crystal Mountain, but couldn't get into Chuck's vocals. Crystal Mountain is the most accessible Death song, so going too jazzy/proggy from TSoP stuff or too raw from the pre-Human era isn't going to win them over, either, since it's still Chuck's vocals that are going to hinder them from getting into it.
Great take on them. I love their chemistry and playing off each other. I also love when they just hit a ridiculous spot where it tickles both of them and they lean back in their chairs and laugh in astonishment.
I also love how in this age of always only advancing yourself as the brand that neither of them try to be the Beyonce of the group and overshadow the other (although George is certainly more frequently chatty).
The vocalist is Ian Gillan, one of the great rock singers of the time and a big ispiration to second wave british metal ie. Judas Priest and Iron Maiden etc.
Judas Priest formed in 1969 , first album in 1974 .
5 studios albums between 1974- 1978 .
They re from the First wave .

@@Nissardpertugiu Rob Halford of Judas Priest was more inspired by Peter Hammill of Van der Graaf Generator. He was one of many famous rock stars that were at the reunion concert of Van der Graaf Generator on May 6th 2005 after a hiatus of 27 years. Other prominent guests were Bruce Dickinson, the former singer of Iron Maiden, John Lydon alias Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd., Fish of Marillion, Julian Cope of The Teardrop Explodes and David Bowie (who was a huge fan of Peter Hammill; he called himself "Poor Man's Peter Hammill" in an interview once).
Here a song from that reunion concert; a blistering version of "Lemmings":
ua-cam.com/video/KyPTWlmROSE/v-deo.html
Gillan also did an album as the singer for Black Sabbath called Born Again, which is very underrated imo
@@youreatoilet very underrated but it's a great album
Talking about the solo sounding freestyle- Ritchie Blackmore could never remember exactly how his solos went. He said this and if you see a live video you’ll see him signal the band so they know when he’s done
And actually a lot of his live versions are just amazing and much more interesting to listen to than the studio versions. For example, the Made In Japan version of his solo on Smoke on the Water take the song into another dimension. It was a good rock song on the album but the live version is another level, like most of Made in Japan's other songs imho.
Jimmy Shadowen I think Ritchie also said he never likes to play a song the same way twice so when it comes to the solo he wants it to be different.
He also said he never knows what he will do for a solo before he gets to it. The only song he had the solo planned out in advance was Highway Star.
Guy's that's a hammond B3 organ!
You should check out the song Highway Star...
Highway star has some amazing organ work for the time.
with a Leslie speaker I suspect
Played by the wonderful Mr Jon Lord (RIP)
Susie Miller best keyboard solo ever on that track. Jon Lord distorted the sound on the Marshalls to get that lovely rough sound ❤️

I thought it was an L series Hammond but im happy to accept it was a B3.
Cheers!
Black Sabbath - Children of the grave
Black Sabbath - Anything from Master of Reality
Children of the Grave is my all time favorite Black Sabbath song. Funky groove and great riffs. Amazing drumming.
Children of the Grave is the better song, but Into the fucking Void is just absolutely soul-crushingly heavy.
S Toy Yea, i i think that's why it very narrowly edges out Paranoid as my fave Sabbath album(War Pigs is the best Sabbath song), the consistently high level on all the songs. I could just as easily have suggested Into the void or any of the other ones honestly.
Black Sabbath - Heaven and hell
One of the GREATEST songs of all time!!
Daniel DeVito you‘re god damn right 🙌🏼
In America, I think Deep Purple doesn't quite get the acknowledgment that they get worldwide. They are easily one of the most important bands, and laid the foundation for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal for generations to come...but over here, most people think the only thing they've done was "Smoke on the Water", which is not fair to them at all.
I'm not the biggest Deep Purple fan (don't hate them, just never got into them), but "Highway Star" is an amazing song! If you guys haven't reacted to that track yet, you should.
RunsLikeMays Black night was what got me into them 😉
Deep Purple are surprisingly huge in Japan as well.
RunsLikeMays America must be a musical backwater.....
Sabbath rules in America. Zep used to, until we found out that they built their early career on stolen songs.
I'm not so sure. Everyone I know, knows and loves Deep Purple.
That's Ian Gillan, one of the best vocalists across any genre. And you guys are right, they don't get enough credit.
Not so much on this recording, but if you watch the video where they were performing this in front of a group of people, you can hear Bruce Dickinson on the high screams of Gillan. It is uncanny how much they sound alike. Venture to say that Gillan was a big influence on Bruce.
Check out some Uriah Heep.

Made in Japan's live version is one of the peak moments in history for me haha, got that one on vinyl too!
Deep Purple stacks really high. They probably just aren't as flashy as some other bands. Most Rock and Metal Heads would tell you that DP is one of the best bands of all time.
Id put them in one of those.. inspiration bands position? if that makes sense? Like they had a few hits but theyre more the band that Inspired others, like theyre the martial arts hermit in the mountains or something.
Deep Purple not flashy? Have you ever seen a live Ritchie Blackmore solo? :P

You guys need to listen to child in time the live version on the made in japan album. Seriously it has the greatest guitar solo of all time!
I totally agree
Oh shit yes...Made In Japan.
^^^ This dude knows. Any song on Made in Japan is the best version of that song.
Listen to Space Truckin’ or Highway Star. Go for the bangers. This band was as influential to metal as Black Sabbath. Without Ritchie Blackmore, metal guitar couldn’t exist.

SAVATAGE - When the Crowds are Gone
A very distinct, big yet underrated band that you should give attention to. Keep up the good work guys, cheers.,
I'd go with "Chance," but Savatage would be awesome!
I think they will would dig Savatage. Nice suggestion.
I would go with Hall of the Mountain King. I think they would dig the groove
All awesome suggestions! I would add Edge of Thorns (possibly the greatest guitar solo of all time) and The Wake of Magellan (they would love the bass groove, the transitions and the 5 part vocal harmonies).
Great concept album

Can you do Stevie Ray Vaughan-Texas Flood live at the El Mocambo
Ozzy Osbourne best version of the song that I've ever heard
In his prime Ian Gillan had a six octave vocal range.
But his life style and heavy smoking early years ruined it unfortunately.
If you want to hear a song with an amazing vocal range listen to "Naturträne" (German for "Tear of Nature" or "Natural Tear"; both translations are possible. "Tear" as in "weeping") from the debut album of the Nina Hagen band. Nina has an amazing voice and, as you can hear in this song, had training as an opera singer (she was considered to be a child prodigy in this regard). But she also knows how to rock off. Yes the Raven! the most emotional song ever written
Deep Purple in their prime were monstrous! Good job with not picking the obvious Purple tunes, such as Smoke On the Water and Highway Star (though they DO rock). Gillan, Blackmore and Lord killed it. As to where they stack up, they're hugely influential within prog rock/metal. True masters of their craft.
Joseph Polito Well, Child In Time also is a Deep Purple standard, isn‘t it? :-) But I agree, much better choice than Smoke or Highway.
I agree but I love me some Highway Star though :p

Deep Purple's most legendary lineup, they've been together for 15 years, albeit with constant struggles and breakups and makeups. And they are absolutely majestic, specially in live shows such as "Made in Japan". "Smoke on the Water" is their infamous song, so popular and great that people tends to confuse Deep Purple as a "one hit wonder".
They are kinda underrated in USA, where Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are more known in the "Unholy Trinity" of Heavy Metal.
Purple have sold 130 million records, Sabbath about 85 million, hope this helps

Thank you for your reaction.
Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin= better known as the Holy Trinity of Heavy Metal. Even though none of the 3 bands considered themselves as Heavy Metal bands. Only Black Sabbath later on embraced the idea that a lot of people pointed at them as the ones who invented Heavy Metal.
This.
I don't see how people are saying Deep Purple is underrated: they have multiple platinum/gold albums, they have been ranked many times among the most influential bands of all time, they have sold waaaay over 100 million albums worldwide and bands like Metallica, Judas Priest, Queen, Van Halen have expressed Deep Purple's influence. I guess they were never as popular in the US as Led Zeppelin (but then again who was/is) for example but saying that they are underrated in the metal/hard rock or music scene in general is just plain wrong.
Only one of those was through and through a metal band if you want to get technical. Deep Purple was relatively influential particularly as regards Paice's drumming and Blackmore's soloing but Blackmore would go on to influence the genre much more considerably than Deep Purple ever did when he formed Rainbow. Zeppelin gets a lot of credit but personally I don't see that much in their sound that influenced metal, though their sheer popularity pretty much guarantees that lots of musicians were influenced by them. Black Sabbath for me are really the only ones of the three which you can say were playing no holds barred heavy metal around the early 70s.
I agree that to call any of them underrated is nonsense. They're great bands.
Said it before, say it again: Dream Theater - As I Am

Deep Purple are like the definition of Underrated lol
Deep Purple are actually very popular among musicians themselves, and people who are deep into that sound, but asides from their single Smoke on the Water, all their contemporaries, got so much more notoriety and praise, and commercial success than Purple. I would compare them to Tech N9ne in terms of that. All the rap community greatly admires his skill, be he fails to reach his target audience
>Literally the most popular band in the genre
>Underrated
...I don't know, maybe here in Russia they're more popular than in the rest of the world? I feel like they're pretty fairly rated. Maybe it's like Nazareth (apparently they're more loved in Russia than in their own country)
true, but Tech n9ne is a niche sort of. He is a fantastic rapper with mostly mediocre hooks and beats. Deep Purple actually is good as a whole
I come from Bulgaria, and to my parents, Deep Purple are in and above the ranks of Led Zepp, and Black Sabbath, but here in North America, Purple are far less known and played on the radio. Even worse is a band called Uriah Heep. In Bulgaria, Heep has a cult following, and people go to the black sea the first day of July to in commemoration to the song July morning. But in Canada, no one has heard of Heep, there's only Easy Livin' playing very rarely on the radio, and that's it.
Maybe communism had to do with it. As in North America, the bands who had the most publicity had also the most fame, whereas in the former communist countries, western music was banned, and therefore spread only on the black market, so people had an equal opportunity to hear Purple or Heep or Led Zepp, and so consider them as equals. It's really not the same story in America.
GatchevArt, I see. To me Deep Purple for hard rock were always the same as Iron Maiden for heavy metal or Metallica for thresh metal. And of course I know Uriah Heep, they're rather popular here too.
And what you said about having equal opportunities to be heard totally makes sense.
One thing I can say from reading things on internet Deep Purple are definitely underrated in terms of their influence on heavy metal, while Led Zeppelin are way overrated
I wouldn't say that Deep Purple are underrated. Extremely influential - sure, but they are properly rated if you ask me. Machine Head album was commercially extremely successful and is revered by critics and fans alike. So was Deep Purple In Rock and Made In Japan - they have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Smoke On The Water, Child In Time, Perfect Strangers, Hush and Highway Star still gets heavy radio airplay on classic rock stations and occasionally find their way on other stations as well. They're still doing arena tours and gathering large crowds.
Out of their contemporaries with significant influence I'd say King Crimson, CAN, Uriah Heep or Yes are more underrated than them.
Deep Purple, great underrated band! Gents, try out "Highway Star" and "Lazy" from the Machine Head album.
Deep Purple is not and never was "underrated" . at the time (I was there) they were second to Led Zeppelin, but still gigantic in the US and Asia. The UK has had problems with Metal in general.

In flames - Only for the weak (This band has many great songs guys, at least the old ones!)
krulldunk in flames!!!!!!!
In my opinion Come Clarity was the last good album by In Flames.
Deep Purple - Space Truckin!
YES. They will definitely love that one
Big yes for Space Truckin, but don't forget Highway Star too!
A song I'm trying to get James Gunn to include for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. They couldn't find another appropriate song, lol.
Riley, that is definitely excellent choice! That bassline and drums got the funk!!
COME ON! COME ON! COME ON! LET'S GO SPACE TRUCKIN!
MUSE -KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Another rock video, another chance to request Whitesnake - Still of the Night!
Roadstar1602 yeah they've done no whitesnake yet and that would be a great place to start.
Love me some Whitesnake! Slide it In is easily one of the best albums to cruise down a highway to.
Pleeaase do Outshined by Soundgarden tomorrow. It would be a year since Chris passed away. It would mean so much!!💜
vanta_rose black hole sun would be good too
Blow up the outside world, would be good as well.
Yes please. RIP Chris. Soundgarden deserves a second chance by you guys.
why no black hole..???
Nick any song is fine, really. I just preferred Outshined because it's one of my all time favs, and I thought they'd really like it. It's heavy and Chris completely wails in that song.
Muse - Knights of Cydonia!!!
Ayeew Tasko YES!!! Do it please!!!!!
Would love to see them do Supremacy as well!
Ian Gillan best voice
the greatest range in all of rock music, thats a fact.Brunel University tested and found that his extraordinary voice even hit highs and held them even better than Freddie.
Some achievement that.
Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are generally considered to be the pioneers of modern Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. You guys should also check out, other Deep Purple songs like: Black night, Speed king, Fireball, Strange kind of Woman , and Highway star, from the same era.
Going Old School .......Try some Thin Lizzy,Grand Funk Railroad,Hendrix, Cream,Yardbirds,Iron Butterfly,Uriah Heep,Humble Pie,Mountain just to name afew.
James Woods Hell yeah dude! Late 60s' and early 70s' rock is the shit! Also more underground bands like Budgie, Sir lord baltimore, Buffalo, Dust, Captain beyond, coven and Gun would be cool :D
Some Kind of Wonderful would be a good GFR song to start them out on.
Not bad. Personally I would start with "Call Yourself a Man". Love that song.
PANTERA - CEMETERY GATES
ANNIHILATOR - ALISON HELL
VAN HALEN - HOT FOR TEACHER.
Daniel Santiago Great choices!
Yes please Cemetary Gates
You two are very open minded I'd recommend astronomy by blue oyster cult
Now Judas Priest - Beyond The Realms of Death !!
The Animals - House of the rising sun
Viktor Hermansson try the band Geordie. Brian Johnsons (ac/dc) old band. He did a good take.
Yes!!!
While other little girs were playing w/Barbies and screaming over the Beatles - I was rocking out to this piece - it laid the foundation for a life long love of hard rock'n roll - thanks for putting it out there.
I used to Like your channel...
But now i really love you guys !!! 😍😍
This is such an epic song. Deep Purple are amazing.
Fear Factory - Shock, Self-Bias Reactor, Anodized
Zero Signal is the one I've been requestion for a while too.
Great analysis, you guys are several cuts above other reaction channels.
they're light years above any/all other reaction channels!
Please do one of The Sword songs
Arrows in the dark
to take the black
Twilight sunrise (new song 2018)
Sea of green (new song 2018)
The reason they aren't requested more is because they had their own little sophisticated niche that simply wasn't for everyone. Their lyrics can be taken through slow and simple or deep and reflective.
Gonna need to see some more System of a Down on this channel my dudes
My favorite Deep Purple song 😆
Deep Purple is pretty well known. They made Smoke on Water and Highway Star. But there just aint as much merch like there is with Zep, Pink Floyd, and Sabbath. So while they're one of the greats and they sold a lot of records, they somehow don't have as much notoriety as the other bands I listed. Ritchie Blackmore is the guitarist and he's considered one of the Rock greats. They also are one of the bands that helped birth metal.
And Black Night, which is probably better known than Highway Star, TBH.
I'm talking by modern standards in that Highway Star gets way more radio play and film features today than Black Night.
Ahh, gotcha. Fair comment.
Thanks for the clarification.
Agreed. Deep Purple was a big band, but probably just a tier down from the bands you mentioned. I think the lineup changes in the band probably did not help overall.
I think all the line up changes for both Deep Purple and Rainbow is why they don't have as much notoriety as some of the other greats.
That's a Hammond B3 with percussive switch on in the beginning played by Jon Lord.
Lead singer Ian Gillian replaced Dio in Black Sabbath for 1 album in 1982. Also he was Jesus on the original recording of "Jesus Christ Superstar"
BABYMETAL LOVER born again - '83 - bad ass album!
Thank you for that little nugget of knowledge regarding JCS !!! I didn’t even know there was a previous record version The was before the soundtrack w Ted Neely !!! Gonna have to hunt that bad boy down 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Born Again is a HELL of a heavy Sabbath album!
Guys: Play Zero The Hero!
He was outstanding singing JCS!
