I have been doing this for many years. I love it. I eat healthy and sometimes I indulge. My window is 10am to 6 pm. One day a week I do
12noon to 4 pm always Sunday.
If anyone decides to do it....you will feel fantastic.

Oh wow!!!! I didn't know I was doing it but, after my last vacation with old friends from school and everyone noticed I put weight...I was a 119lb,.almost for ever, but now at 64 the pounds stayed there. I was 140lbs and my height is only 5'....for a month after my trip, did cut all carbs and exercise .....I was miserable as I love my French bread and rice and hate to exercise...I was so disappointed that after one month of doing this only lost not even 1/2 lb. then I was diagnosed with gallbladder stones and therefore I was scare to eat. That did it, bc of not eating at night and just eat normal portions of meals my stomach shrunk I think...like you, I only have coffee in the morning and then a good lunch and kind of light dinner. I eat everything I want in moderation and I lost 15 lbs no suffering, my clothes fit better, I don't like to change sizes, that was my big concern. Thank you for your guidance in this topic

I started IF by accident, (visiting newborn grandson, no time to eat till 11am ) and ate grand meals during my celebratory visit, between 11 and 7, but gained no weight( I can look at pasta and gain 2 pounds!) Without knowing it I was close to 16:8 IF , and started to pay attention to youtubes about it. My benefits: 1) Just previously, I had wondered if I had a digestion illness, felt terrible after healthy dinners, and couldn't keep a pound off no matter what. Then with accidental IF 16:8 the stomach bloat disappeared right away! And I lost weight while eating reasonable foods, without crazy dieting. 2) If I sat for a long time, it would take me 10 seconds to straighten out my back when I stood up. Now I jump out of a chair, no aches no pains! 3) Joints again, I would go downstairs in the morning carefully holding the railing, sometimes 2 feet per stair, it hurt and was hard to balance. Now I pop downstairs first thing, no issues. 4) I have pasta, and Pizza, homemade, every week. In the past I could not do that. I don't see a lot more energy, but I DO feel so much better. My weight maintains, when I have slightly richer meals, and goes down when I eat tuna salad at night. I am the lowest weight in 30 years at 69, and love it. I have always eaten whole foods, and virtually everything made from scratch, so that didn't change. I am usually in the 10 pound range of excess but finally beat it. teh lack of joint issues will keep me committed to this :)

Yes IF corrects my appetite too! I started in March after over a year of keto, which helped me lose a lot of weight, but became a religion for me where I treated carbs like the root of all my problems. I'd had issues bingeing on sweets before keto and got addicted to the guilt of good and bad food. I ate how the internet said I should and ignored or suppressed the natural cues from my body. I focused solely on my overeating sweets and not on the fact that I also forced myself to eat when not hungry or punished myself with foods I didn't want to eat. I used keto as a way to binge on foods that were more satiating and didn't cause the weight gain of sugar binges. With IF I'm free to eat as much as I want as long as I truly want it...which is pretty indulgent and luxurious compared to my grandmothers' choices. One grandmother made the best pancakes ever out of flour, water, and oil. There was feasting in the Bible and also fasting. As a Christian the idea of eating keto or vegan etc to live this life forever does not appeal to me. If we live to old age we lose our faculties no matter what I'm not advising anyone binge but it's not a sin to me anymore to eat a cookie. Life is seasonal and there will be literal and metaphorical feastings and fastings. In reality my food hang ups are very selfish, 21st century first world and self actualized. I work a sedentary job and don't need to eat 6 times a day. Jim Rohn said let the way you eat be a functional of character not the calculator. I've learned a lot as a en studying my habits throughout the monthly cycle. I treated myself like a robot and now I understand at certain times of the month I tend to want more and if I follow the cues it tends to balance out if I don't overthink it and live in fear. IF helps there too. Sometimes I want way less food than I think and other times more. Sorry this comment is long but your take on this resonates with me!

I started intermittent fasting after you mentioned it in your video. So far I have noticed two things. I love how I feel when I go to bed. I never feel bloated and I have been sleeping better. The other thing I noticed is that it appears I was a picker. I never really ate a snack after dinner but would pick at a few things. I might grab a couple of crackers or a handful of cereal. I guess in my head it never felt like an official snack. Jennifer, thank you for bringing intermittent fasting to my attention. I love it.

I’m really glad this works for you! I do think it’s important to emphasize that not everyone will experience a reduction in cravings simply by limiting the time window during which they can eat. I’ve known several people who tried intermittent fasting over extended periods of time and a few actually gained weight (25+ lbs in one case). Some people feel a sense of anxiety about food scarcity when they have a smaller eating window and will end up sabotaging their plans by eating more than they normally would in a day. Essentially, this system can work well for some but not at all for others, like so many diet plans.

My story, Jennifer. My mother is 92 and very active...drives, has a bustling social life, etc. She has ALWAYS eaten this way! She eats breakfast at maybe 10am, has a light lunch, and has dinner about 5pm. NOTHING EVER after 6pm. EVER. And she has the figure of a 30 year old and takes no medicines at all!! I, on the other hand, have always been heavy, but I'm trying this intermittent fasting to see if it helps me. I'm binging on your videos!!

I’m a “volume eater.” For those of you who know what I mean it’s really important to load up your plate with low carb veggies like cabbage and broccoli. It’s important for me to feel full when I eat. Chewing very thoroughly helps with this as well.

I have done a lot of digging into how so many European women are so shockingly thin compared to American women. The average American woman can't even fit into standard clothing in Europe because we are so much larger. I have realized that it is, in part, the food that we eat that makes the difference. European women, especially Italians and French, are very obsessed with cooking. It is a hobby for most people, a pleasure, a joy, to cook a beautiful homemade meal. Meal time is an experience not just shoving things into your face while doing another task. So the food is healthier because it is more homemade, not processed, etc. However, another common trend in my digging is the fasting. Very very few European women (and men) eat until after 2pm. If they do "eat" it is a cappuccino. I was wondering why I was struggling to stay on the slim side like my Italian relatives. I go to Italy and see them and, yes, I am about 8 inches taller than my Sicilian female relatives, but still, they are so trim! I found the secret--no processed food, enjoy the cooking, make eating a pleasurable experience and enjoy using the freshest ingredients, but also, fast! This video is great advice! Americans have this cultural attitude that we must eat 3 meals a day. For some people, that is true. I know many people with health conditions who need to eat a small meal with their medicine, or people who work in manual labor who physically exert themselves greatly and need that protein and caloric intake to sustain their hard work. However, for the average person in the USA, the average woman who wants to lose a few few pounds, this is so realistic. It's super hard to start. I started at 26 when I spent my entire life eating 3 meals and 2 snacks every single day. I felt FAMISHED for the first two weeks. Then my body got used to it and I realized I felt so much clearer mentally, so light, and didn't feel weighed down from meals throughout the day. I didn't feel hungry either. I drink sparkling water a lot if I do get hunger pains mid morning and I will have a glass and then realize I am not hungry at all.

Great comparison! I wanted to comment on your breakfast. I eat eggs every day and although I have never eaten seaweed --I'm a prairie savage-- I top my eggs with different things. Lately I'm loving raw onion slices, chives, and also broccoli or radish sprouts. I've been growing sprouts all fall and we just love them on everything, and they have a big punch of nutrition--more than the full grown veggie. I buy sprouting seeds from Johnny's and they are very economical and super-EASY to grow.

I already left a comment but had only watched the first half because my kids needed something and now I’ve finished watching and have to add that after intermittent fasting for just 3 weeks my appetite has already corrected itself so much. I think my stomach has shrunk a bit and I just don’t eat as much. A smaller portion of food fills me up and I do notice that I am careful to eat higher quality foods. I will allow myself desserts sometimes too but now a single cookie is good for me whereas before I probably would have wanted and had several.

Before the ten(ish) item wardrobe I did not like to shop for clothes, but had a nagging feeling when I was near a store that sold clothing, that I should! As for eating, it took so much time out of the day, prepping, eating, and cleaning. Now it seems that I have extra hours in my day! Thank you for giving me this time, Jennifer, by your clear explanations and constant encouragement. 💞

Intermittent fasting helped me see how much I emotionally eat. Not due to stress but based on activity. When my husband and I sit together after my son goes to bed we snack. Yes Jennifer this is spot on. I’ve been doing IF for over a year and I agree with every single thing you shared. The correlation to the 10 item wardrobe is something I noticed too. I’m a rule follower so both principles are perfect for me. Appetite correction, weight loss and maintenance, consistent energy, better sleep and overall wellness, craving healthier and higher quality foods- only “window worthy” foods please- are just some of the benefits. I’m sold on this lifestyle and I’m so grateful you are sharing two of my favorite life hacks in one video so I can share both IF and the 10 item wardrobe with family and friends. Thank you so much for summing IF up so well, I could not agree more! We are definitely kindred spirits. I’m also a homeschooling mom and journal my way through our family read alouds. Very interesting topic Marie-Ann Lecoeur was discussing this last week, about not taking it to extremes and remembering to stay hydrated, because some people advocated to not eat for a whole day or more- not good. Its not technically fasting but I think it is normal human behaviour not to eat after a certain time. I lecture on BA and MA health/nursing degrees and my students have the massive problem of having to work shifts (I did some years ago and night shift is difficult to re adjust to days again). They find it hard to try this method - depending on the health care provider/hospital they work for they also can't bring in their own prepared food. I thing it would make a good research project for a PhD (more than one) I have read research on other types of shift work but nothing really gets to the heart of the problem.

After I watched 'The Daily Connoisseur' video on intermittent fasting, I got the idea to fast for at least eight straight hours when I would normally be sleeping. Before I decided to do this, I would wake up and have some chocolate and then go back to sleep - never really allowing my body any rest and repair. It's been barely two weeks since I've started and this is what I've noticed so far:
    -a lot more sustained energy
-easier to redirect from scary or depressing thoughts
-better and faster ability to focus on writing and working on projects
-went down a notch on my belt
-I usually end up fasting for over 9 hours at a time with no problem
    -eating less with no effort
-I still have a killer sweet tooth and have been indulging in it during my eating window - trying to cut down, but frankly not in a hurry

I think it must have corrected my appetite. Strangely I’ve noticed that once I get through the tummy growls and break my fast I actually have little appetite for the rest of the day so I focus on having two nutritious meals and a third lighter one.

IF taught me to pay attention to my hunger. My eating window is also 9am to 5pm. But some days I skip breakfast (today for example) because I'm just not hungry. I'm eating lunch out today with a friend and I'm excited (weird for me) about what I'm going to choose to eat. FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!

One of my favorite weird meals is bone broth with chopped tri-tip and provolone cheese. When I feel naughty, I add croutons! I love how the cheese gets super melty! It’s a mess but I love it! Oooo, and add avocado! Yu-ummmm!

I was very dubious about this, but thought, why not give it a try! So, the day after I watched your first IF video, I waited until 9am to have breakfast (since I normally eat it at 6am, that was a bit of a hardship). Since then, I've been eating brekkers between 9 and 9:30am and really don't seem to miss that early AM bowl of cereal! I've lost 10lbs (some of that is anxiety non-eating, I'll admit, since I was awaiting testing results), but I can fit into my favorite cords again so I'm sold. I have dinner at 5pm and the kitchen is closed from that point on! Thanks for this and I'm looking forward to hearing your further discussion!

I really enjoyed this video today! I don't really "do" the ten item wardrobe but I'm home most of the time so I wear the same clothes, except Sundays when I go to church. I enjoy intermittent fasting when I do it and it works for me. I do have some challenges with it- one being my morning coffee. I get up early and like it first thing and sweet! Even if I use Truvia I still have to put honey or agave in it so I assume that breaks my fast. I try to go 18 hours fasting which helps keep the weight down. My husband LOVES grocery shopping- I've been trying to get him to eat healthier but he's such a snacker and there's always something around to snack on. I'm pretty good until 3 pm when I have to start thinking about dinner and I mindlessly go to the cupboard and grab a handful of chips or a cookie. That's my difficult time, right before dinner. I'm really looking forward to Thursdays video!

Hi Jennifer! I started intermittent fasting after your video a few weeks ago. I lost 8lbs. from August until October and then noticed I got stuck. So I tried fasting a few weeks ago and lost 2 lbs. in one week! My schedule is a little different. We usually don't eat dinner until 6:30 or 7 because I work a full-time job. We usually finish by 7:30 and then I start. I don't eat breakfast until 10 or 11 the next day. It has been hard but I wanted to try it. On the weekends I will adjust my schedule. I usually eat breakfast late so that I can eat out with my family on the weekends. With a late breakfast, I am usually not hungry for lunch and ready for dinner by 6. So far so good! Thank you!

I resonate with this so much right now! Both of these things are goals that I’ve been working on, but my family is also in a season of moving and transition where routines tend to go out the window. This video was an inspirational reminder of where I want to be in both of these areas, and gives me that little punch of motivation that I need to keep pressing forward! Thank you! ❤️

This couldn't be any more spot on! I must have looked psychotic as I watched your video because I was sitting here nodding my head and quietly whispering to myself " yes!!!" " omg so true!!!" lol Yes, everything you mentioned here about fasting is correct for me. I have been doing it for about a year. I have recently been wondering why it is that I can even smell good quality, take out food these days and not want it. I used to want it with gusto. Today for eg. I had the money to go treat myself to a good lunch at a good cafe near my house and I was starving! What did I do instead ? I drove home to make myself two fried eggs and a portion of creamed spinach with strawberries and cream after for dessert. So yes, I completely agree with everything and in particular, the craving for good quality food increases when fasting. Very well thought out video! 😊

Questions: If your main meal is lunch, what do you typically eat for dinner? Your meals look amazing!, but fruits and vegetables seem to play a smaller role (or have more fat, I’m thinking of your yummy creamed spinach) than the American “food pyramid” would likely recommend. Your thoughts? Loved this video! 💕💕💕

Best aid for me to Intermittent fast.. is to blend in my Vitamix.~1/2 lemon ( skin, pith and flesh) in a small amount of water and then divvy it up into 2 large glass jars, then fill the jars with water to the top.. Surprisingly refreshing and it's so easy to drink that water. I call it GLOW JUICE.

Same experience with appetite correction...over the course of 9 years of childbearing and breastfeeding, I had a habit of eating 1st thing in the morning and snacking every night before bed. Just doing a 12-14 hr fast each night after dinner helped me lose the last 20 lbs of baby weight in 6 months, plus I eat smaller portions and really pay attention to whether I’m satisfied (not full-then I know I’ve eaten too much!) as I eat my meals.

I really need help with this. I don’t know if anyone else can relate to my dilemma but here goes... I have tried intermittent fasting before and I can never stick with it. I know I have the discipline to do so but it is so difficult because of my husbands work schedule. He is a surgeon and has an extremely chaotic and fluctuating schedule. One day he could be done and home at 1pm (an absolute joy) and sometimes I can go 24 hours not seeing him. Those two dipoles are not the problem. The problem is when he gets home at 8:30, 9 or 10pm and I want to have dinner with him. There is a meal I cooked meant for 6pm and here we are at 9!😫 I find myself either eating with him at nine, (which is fine for him who has probably only had saltines and water all day but I’ve already had a lunch) or making him a plate of something to eat by himself which makes me feel unconnected with him as I sit there while he eats exhausted from the days work. Any tips on what to do to make this work for me would be appreciated greatly. I’m thinking of doing a 9-9 fast just to stick to a schedule and then titrate the end time down but it is so difficult to manage around his mealtime.

My husband is also a doctor and has a crazy schedule. I am currently a stay at home mom. The deal is that there is always food for him to heat up when he gets home but my schedule and kid schedule is non- negotiable. If it’s late and everyone is asleep, I will drink hot water with lemon to keep him company - or coffee with almond milk in the morning. I’ve found that keeping the train on schedule at home acts a bit like a lighthouse for him - if the household is on schedule when he has autonomy to adjust his schedule he will do it to match the household schedule.

2-10 eating window? Light lunch at 2, light dinner or snack at 6 like cheese, olives, a salad, soup etc and then eat with him at 9. Or switch and have dinner at 5 or 6 and light meal at 9

These are all great suggestions. Since writing this I have been sticking to 9am to nine pm but the scheduling issue hasn’t reared it’s head yet this week. But I think the tea or a light soup to have alongside him is a very good idea.

I’m really enjoying the info on intermittent fasting! This was a good connection to the wardrobe as well. I eat “breakfast bowls” like what you had today a lot, it doesn’t seem to be much of a thing. I put together a list of international options to “travel” around the world:
    Base:
    Roasted cauliflower
    Sautéed cabbage
    Cauliflower rice
    Spaghetti squash
    Sautéed veggies
    Zucchini spiral
    Butternut spiral
    Mashed cauliflower
    Lettuce
    Leftover veggies
    Protein:
    Fried egg
    Poached egg
    Hard or soft boiled egg
    Scrambled egg
    Omelette
    Breakfast sausage
    Bacon
    Salmon
    Smoked salmon
    Canadian bacon
    Hamburger
    Leftover protein
    Topping:
Korea-Kimchi, gochujang, spring onion, sesame seed
Japan- soy sauce, wasabi, spicy mayo, furikake
    Germany-sauerkraut, mustard, curry ketchup, pickles
Mexico-salsa, cheese, hot sauce, crema, guacamole
Spain-smoked paprika, garlic oil, chorizo, aioli, olives
Southern US-pimento cheese, pickled okra, hot sauce
    India-curry, chutney, raita, cilantro
    Vietnam-sriracha, basil, mint, peanuts, lime
Middle East-feta, olives, oregano, tahini sauce
    Italy-tomato sauce, pesto, mozzarella, Parmesan
    France-goat cheese, carmelized onions, tapenade
    New Orleans-andouille, Cajun spice, Tabasco
    Scandinavia-herring, onions, pickles, horseradish
    Indonesia-peanut sauce, coconut, sambal, cilantro

I have tried IF on and off since your last video on it. I jumped right into a 16:8 plan.
However, I found that for those last 2 hours of the fast, I didn't seem to have much energy and could only think about food.
So now, I'm reading and studying up on it, and am trying to ease into it more, fasting for 12 hours for a few days, and then stretching it out to 13 or 14 hours...but...I haven't lost any weight doing that, so hopefully I can get to a 16:8 regularly and then take some weight off.

The first week I tried it i allowed myself just a little bone broth for the few times I felt very weak it too hungry. It helped hold me over. It wasn’t enough calories to get me out of the ketogenic stage but enough to help with added nutrients and minerals to help me along. Gradually I didn’t need it anymore. In the morning for the last few hours of my fast I workout and walk to keep my mind off of hunger and drink plenty of water and tea. Exercise helps curb the appetite a bit. It’s gotten so that it’s not difficult anymore.
