My personal problem specifically with the NSX is how I feel Honda didn't spend the time to make the car significantly unique. I understand their approach was to make the car extremely approachable and daily driveable, but I've spent time in the NSX and it doesn't give me the "fizz" as Clarkson would say like the original NSX or S2000. Thanks to both the engineers and savagegeese for making this content possible. You guys seem to have the right approach with incorporating the people who are behind the scenes and never get the time of day to talk about what they did during the cars process. I think its beneficial to the consumers who are interested in any make/model, to hear input from people working on the car directly. Not just the people who market it, and tell you all the things you WANT to hear. This was great!
Our goal in these sorts of projects is to connect the viewers with the engineers. I think these people have a tremendous wealth of knowledge and getting to absorb just a touch of that is a great experience.
In terms of a comprehensive review this was next level 👍🏽 Corvette engineers should take a bow for developing a world-class sports car with the C8 in all its iterations and doing America proud.
Definitely cool to hear from the ones who actually helped design the car. And the passion they have is 100% evident ! Hats off the all those creating this 1st generation ERay. Congrats!!
Probably the coolest sounding hybrid *ever,* a proper performance-oriented V8 and electric motor working in perfect concert without one smothering or nerfing the other. I love this gen's Z06 but this is easily my favorite Vette in the lineup right now, the big question mark though is reliability with all that extra complexity in the mix.
Great Stuff Guys !!!!!!!!!!!! I loved how you overlayed a fake MPH screen footage over the real one during the test run. Your editing guy needs to work on that a bit more - LOL
Thank for another amazing detailed review of a real departure for Corvette. No one else has done this! Thank you and All who contributed to the production! Well done.
16:11 Yes! Thank you for going straight to the sources of truth that typically live behind the curtain. I can attest Marketing departments are full of BS. Often not even checking with the Engineers and instead posting incorrect specs to the public. It's very frustrating.
Gentlemen, The quality and craftsmanship of your videos just continues to surpass your previous excellent efforts. I worry at some point you'll set such a high standard it will be impossible to maintain it video after video, and we spoiled viewers will complain that you released a mere 9.84/10 production instead of a 9.93/10. Until that day happens, my highest compliments on continuing to push the limits of your art.
As someone who doesn’t pay much attention to what’s coming out anymore, this is a complete surprise. Very interesting development like the hybrid hypercars
I’m sorry, these guys are some of the best out there. The fact that we hear from the engineers with so much detail. I learn so much from these videos. I am able to geek out on all the tech explanation, but your passion for these vehicles still comes through. Thank you!
I think that incorporating a ice car with a hybrid drivetrain is the best combo no need for a full ev at this point at all this c8 here gives you everything an enthusiastic car person would ever need!! And also the price is outstanding!! 107 msrp loaded up nicely for 125k that’s just crazy!! 655hp and awd just for for example the Acura nsx was 220 with mark ups grant it this c8 eray will probably be 15k mark up and if ordered one dealers are not marking these up at all!!
So glad you highlighted the importance of the engineers behind the scenes of these amazing vehicles. Too often it’s some marketing executive that is the face of these rollouts. Thanks for all your hard work on these videos. Your dedication is apparent.
Not to take away from this amazing video, but I didn't know EddieX was still this active even after all the Vehicle Virgins drama. Thanks for another great piece of content
I'm just happy during your acceleration test you didn't go over 65 miles an hour. I would say you guys deserve a kudos for responsible driving and leading by example😊
Totally. Not to mention that the electric motor sound, which had already been mentioned as kicking in around 90mph (until the motor disengages at around 150mph), seemed to be whining at the 50-65 mph or so that they were travelling. 🏎 You guys... 😁
Your description of the launch sounds exactly how my GT-R felt. It was something that I felt made the launches feel less visceral. Having been in a cars with lots of RWD torque monsters, the take off felt less “pinned to your seat” with AWD. Even at full bolt on performance, the effect never changed, just the launch/ quarter mile times.
I waited to watch this video on my theater system and was not disappointed! By far this is the best auto UA-cam channel! Thank you guys for doing this video and recognizing the engineers who made this product!
Love that it exists! take this recipe and move it across the lineup GM. Hybridize the great ICE engines they have! Im staying on the Z06 allocation list though!
I appreciate all of the engineering insight that this channel gets into. It does not bore me to death. Question though: how is the internal combustion engine started? Is it an old-fashioned "chug-chug-chug" starter, or is there a dedicated motor to spin it up to idle speed instantly?
Hmmm whats the difference in practice? I dont see any. A starter is just a "dedicated" electric motor after all. I guess you might be asking if its more powerful, perhaps with other gearing than a normal starter? I would guess it isnt.
@@GoldenCroc 12V vs. HV (200+ volts). If you search "KERS Kels" you'll find a starterless, clutchless 350Z race car with an electric assist system which also starts the engine from a dig.
This is probably the best street Corvette ever...it perfectly balances the street character the C8 has while giving you the speed performance of the ZO6 with likely lower maintenance costs. The performance is just insane...0-60 in 2.2 seconds, 10's at almost 130 mph in the 1/4 mile, what appears to be instant torque and response, and I love how they say the electric motor smooths out the dual clutch trans and makes it all instant. Love the scenery guys, looks like the Huntley/Woodstock/Gilberts area. I'm in Algonquin and I have gotten out to these back roads and it's great scenery...and fun!
Chevy hit it out of the park with the E-Ray! A total Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde car. I typically hate EV's but the way they incorporated it here is perfect. Well done! Great review, guys!
To Jack: Yo, listen up here's a story About a -little- HUGE guy That lives in a blue world And all day and all night And everything he sees is just blue Like him inside and outside Blue his house With a blue little window And a blue *corvette* And everything is blue for him And himself and everybody around Cause he ain't got nobody to listen to I'm blue Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di I'm blue Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di I have a blue house With a blue window Blue is the colour of all that I wear Blue are the streets And all the trees are too I have a girlfriend and she is so blue Blue are the people here That walk around Blue like my *corvette* its in and outside Blue are the words I say And what I think Blue are the feelings That live inside me
Just curious if the extra weight over the ZO6 is noticeable during the spirited drive? You mentioned the weight, but didn't really touch on how much it effects the drive and handling.
Never been a big Chevy fan, but this is something I would definitely consider. I'm so tired of the "threat" of vehicle electrification being shoved down our throats. I feel like this could bridge the gap. Kudos to @savagegeese for bringing this review, and kudos as well to the R&D and engineering team at Chevy. I hope to see other manufacturers follow suit.
When new ICE vehicles are universally banned, you can be sure that governments will manipulate the supply/cost of fuel to 'encourage' drivers of used ICE vehicles to move to EV..
There's no "threat", the hand of the market and consumer decisions change what is produced. The best selling car in the world is electric and the quickest car in the world, also an EV.
It's so cool to see and hear the GM nerds discuss the development of systems they've dedicated portions of their lives on. This should be all the marketing GM needs. If you've got truly passionate, motivated engineers working on the platform that have pride in what they deliver, then the product is going to be amazing.
I knew this was coming since what this car is attempting to do is exceptionally relevant in this segment, but I still appreciate Jack's GM Microchip implant incessantly motivating Mark to humor the constant bombardment of Corvettespeak.
For many people this will be the best Corvette . Certainly the best as a daily driver car that will be used all year and used as both transportation and fun . I would like to see performance tests with regular drivers with some comptency and balls and see if they go faster in E-Ray then Z-06 . Despite the weight I bet a fair amount of people would go faster in some scenarios , many scenarios in fact . A great driver in warm weather will enjoy Z0-6 more but as a street car for many people this will be best and of course has the party trick of stupid straighline acceleration that is more consistent . I might miss the exotic engine sound but I think this is still too much car for street use but a better chance of pushing it more often , not waiting for the tires to get to temp and less butt pucker in less then perfect weather and ENDLESS DRIFTING in winter to me adds back any fun I would lose . Snow driving to me is the most fun you can have with a street car having slip angle all you want at lower speed is too much fun . Althouggh I dont know if there are actual snow tires for a car like this . Something equivalent to blizzaks would be wild .
I like the concept a lot. I feel like chevrolet has something special here with the platform, and I like the no compromises hybrid approach. I could also imagine this kind of layout could be awesome for homologation purposes since there are now a variety of weights, power levels, and drive layouts for any kind of racing, even the neo-LM hybrid, or even fully electric racing. With that said, I could see the absolutely staggering potential (pun intended i suppose) of using this concept for a gran sport E, or ZR-E, or even a Z07E pack type of machine. Supercharged V8 in the back, bias the drive with regen up front, and let thy battery be thy ballast. I would be remissed if i did not see the potential of an e-ray type layout with a lighter powertrain in the rear for WEC duty. There is a 4cyl that looks to have a lot of potential in the silverado that is turbocharged, and also the V6 from the camaros or even the cadillacs. They have only begun to scratch the surface with the ceiling in this car working with the chassis and powertrain. I cant wait to see where they go with these next.

Not just the people who market it, and tell you all the things you WANT to hear. This was great!
Our goal in these sorts of projects is to connect the viewers with the engineers. I think these people have a tremendous wealth of knowledge and getting to absorb just a touch of that is a great experience.
One of the best automotive videos I have ever watched. Great job guys!!!
Damn, that TSP premium footage must have cost a pretty penny. A true display of your dedication to the craft.
In terms of a comprehensive review this was next level 👍🏽
Corvette engineers should take a bow for developing a world-class sports car with the C8 in all its iterations and doing America proud.
Definitely cool to hear from the ones who actually helped design the car. And the passion they have is 100% evident ! Hats off the all those creating this 1st generation ERay. Congrats!!
Another great job technically but also adding both of your personalities and personal takes, which are essential 👊
Mr Geese’s cinematography is top quality compare to other car-related channels!!! Respect for the work you do!
Gentlemen,
The quality and craftsmanship of your videos just continues to surpass your previous excellent efforts.
Thank you!
Thanks so much Mark and Jack. Really enjoy the supported tech-talk, engineers.
The long form, in-depth segments you produce are much appreciated.
Always like the tech talk with engineers. Please keep doing that.
thank you Sarab, Trevor and Keith!!!
This guy's videos are on such a level or even 2 above the mass reviews that show up out there. Keep it up. You are on your way to the top.
Super Excited…going to Corvette Academy soon…looking forward to tracking the Z06 and E-Ray! 🏎️💨
The combo of V8 roar and electric whine is actually sick.
It’s like a supercharger.
New Challenger hellcat replacement?
This is one of the more complex cars I've ever seen and what's more impressive is that it actually works and feels good too.
Even better value and better sounding than a $250k, assuming you're even allowed an allocation, before even paying ADM, 992 Turbo S
So glad you highlighted the importance of the engineers behind the scenes of these amazing vehicles. Too often it’s some marketing executive that is the face of these rollouts. Thanks for all your hard work on these videos. Your dedication is apparent.
I simply love the way you test cars and talk about them. 😊 Thanks for another video!
Regards from Poland 🇵🇱
Not to take away from this amazing video, but I didn't know EddieX was still this active even after all the Vehicle Virgins drama. Thanks for another great piece of content
Thank you, savagegeese for giving the engineers, designers, etc who do the actual work, credit.
still the best auto channel on UA-cam.
I'm just happy during your acceleration test you didn't go over 65 miles an hour. I would say you guys deserve a kudos for responsible driving and leading by example😊
And you need to spot video that has been hacked. 🤣🤣🤣
I loved the small edit you did to the speedo. Thanks for all you do! Cheers.
The speedo is always at 65mph. Pretty cool
@@brownwhale5518it was actually measuring how many miles of a gap it put on your car 🥱
Totally. Not to mention that the electric motor sound, which had already been mentioned as kicking in around 90mph (until the motor disengages at around 150mph), seemed to be whining at the 50-65 mph or so that they were travelling. 🏎 You guys... 😁
Loved the little "Like a rock" drops. Gave me a good chuckle. Another great video guys!
Kudos to GM Engineers for giving the ERay personality, and sorting it out well from factory instead of delivering a half baked product!!!
Great segment, the new E-Ray looks to be a great year round performance car with better pricing than a Carrera 4.
Buahahaaaaa…if you can read .. look up the word “depreciation “….
@@BERZERKERSV4If your personal buying choices factor in depreciation, you can’t afford it.
@@BERZERKERSV4C8s don't depreciate you Porschejunk clown 🤡
@@JollyGiant19 found the guy with a 10 year 5 year old tesla lease who thinks hes now part of the elite
@@Dulc3B00kbyBrant0nlol dude stop it, its a vette not a bugatti. You think you’re part of the elite? That’s embarrassing
Unparalleled channel. Getting into GOAT status 🐐
I'm in Algonquin and I have gotten out to these back roads and it's great scenery...and fun!
love the content, guys! Also, I want to give props to GM for the amazing engineering they are putting in to some of their recent vehicles 👏
Chevy hit it out of the park with the E-Ray! A total Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde car. I typically hate EV's but the way they incorporated it here is perfect. Well done! Great review, guys!
The v8 and electric motor sound so cool together
I like the fact they upload early.
It's a good listen on the way to the site.

Not a fan of Corvettes but I would definitely purchase one of these in a few years! Brutal performance
you guys rule, please never stop giving us this level of detail!!!
Jack sounded extremely passionate about this E-Ray in the Shoppe. Mans' voice is beaming.
Just curious if the extra weight over the ZO6 is noticeable during the spirited drive? You mentioned the weight, but didn't really touch on how much it effects the drive and handling.
AMAZING review and breakdown of the E-Ray!
I do appreciate being able to here from the engineers and the minds behind the creation of these cars. The true weeds of development revealed
This is a DAMN good video! Great job guys! Thanks for letting us see and understand where the engineers' heads were when they made the car.
