- I found a forum post that described the exact problem I was having with my 1995 Tigershark bogging under a load and shutting off. It is clogged filters in the carburetor and I replaced the fuel filter.

Hi, yeah I dunno why people badmouth these old machines: I have an old Tigershark Montego and it runs great and is all original. Maybe its ok because it has not been in saltwater. Here in AK it is often important not to fall in the ice cold water... I had it in the lake 5 days after the last ice left the lake. I wonder if anybody has manuals for fixing these things. In front of the engine is a thing with a screwed in cap that has a black plastic handle to unscrew it with no tools, what is that thing? Right by the data plate, like on top of the oil injection pump? Best Regards, from Alaska.
I think it is the cap that lets you look at the timing mark on the flywheel with a timing light. I have heard of people actually putting oil in thinking it was for oil. It isnt. Alaska is quite beautiful I have been there twice.
The one thing I didnt like about this ski is that it has no sponsons to grip on turns so it slides a lot while turning. This one I sold and it actually ran pretty good.
@@ShadetreeJetski Hi, Thanks for the instant reply, appreciate it. I drug this out behind a snowmachine in the winter to a remote lake where I have a cabin. The only thing that does not work is the bilge pump. The lake has shallow areas and there are two shallow sloughs that lead to another lake and a rived with Salmon run. So the jetski will be also used as a fishing "Boat".
@BetterAircraftFabric those pumps were a constant ON style pump so no wonder it quit. Mine still worked and the spares are easy to come by here. Those are known for the oil pump allowing oil to fill the crankcase during storage as well. It wont hurt the engine, but you have to pull the plugs and turn the engine over a lot to get the oil out. This one filled oil up to the base of the carburetor. Not a good factory oil pump on those.
@@ShadetreeJetski Gee, that is a good warning, very appreciated. I left it almost out of oil over the winter but filled it up with oil two weeks ago on the first run of the year! Last weekend it ran fine started up easy and did not smoke much. Will watch out for that. See this is the stuff one must know. Best Regards from Alaska
My jetski cranks but won’t start. What could the issue be??
Let me know. Had the same problem. Ran good all day and then right when I was getting ready to load up it wouldn’t plane out but would still run.
Ok I found the problem. It is the short hose that runs from the fuel cap to the fuel tank. The filler large rubber hose. I got a new cap and pressurized the system and there is a major air leak in that hose. You have to pull the fuel lines and stop up the inlet hose and put your air pressure in the return line. NO MORE THAN 3PSI !! Put soapy water on all suspect areas. Look for bubbles. Update: it is ACTUALLY a cracked plastic fuel filler neck and the parts are no longer available....so plastic welding will have to be done.
@Shadetree Jetski I need your help bud 94 montego before I pull the drain plug out in the lake lol I need a diagram for the vent lines or something that is my issue I know it replaced lines into tank rebuilt carb as well fuel filters runs on hose perfect in lake garbage its something to to do with the venting let me know
How is your gas tank rigged up to the carb? I’m having trouble getting fuel to the carb and I’ve never worked on something that doesn’t have a fuel pump
The pickup tubes that go down in the tank are bad on yours, I promise. Replace them. Clean out the 90-degree elbow, put teflon tape on the threads, and re- install it. The fuel pump is a clear diaphragm inside the carb. You may also have cracks in the plastic under the fuel cap or a bad fuel cap gasket. Any of these problems and your ski won't run.
I’m having same problem. I added a ball ball pump and I can pump fuel thru the lines but it’s not going into the carb. Won’t start. Should i remove carb to clean or take advice from above and check the 90 degrees and lines?
@carloscoyle3061 your fitting is clogged, or your fuel pickup tubes are broken or cracked. There is a possibility of a clogged carb filter, but I would check for those pickup tubes first. Those fittings where the fuel and oil caps screw on will also split and crack causing pressure loss.
Right in front of the engine by the oil pump that little piece of pipe that’s coming out of the bottom front of the hull is that plugged or is allow water flow threw it
That little white pipe is to allow water to pass from the front of the hull to the back. It should not be plugged.
@@ShadetreeJetski I just posted a short video explaining my issue if you could check it out and chime in that be greatly appreciated
All the front holes are silicone shut so it may have been vacuum pressure holding the water in I’m not sure to be honest
@@ShadetreeJetski would it be bad to try and remove that piece of pipe?
@@twanttwtcc3804 There is really no point. Is is simply a drain from one part of the hull to another.
I just got this jetski and there’s oil in the crankcase? like a good bit and its a 2 stroke so im confused
Well this one was the same. No check valves to keep the oil from doing that. Good news is the engine is well lubricated. You will have to pull the plugs and turn the engine over a lot to get all the oil out. Best delete the pump and run premix.
@@atypicalhiker Ive got the reeds pulled and have it shooting out of there now, front cover pulled off too for the stator
I have a tigershark 1994 Daytona jetski and I just put a new starter in and the battery is all charged up but won’t start, it just makes a click sound, the blige bump works and there is no sparking or wires heating up, I think it’s the relay but does anyone know where it’s located?
Inside the black electrical box. It probably is the starter solenoid.
Is there supposed to be water in the manefoild
Not in the intake manifold, no. In the exhaust manifold, yes there will be water.
@@ShadetreeJetski what do I do now then ?
@@lilstunt1873 Tigersharks arent worth much so dont spend a lot repairing it.
@@ShadetreeJetski what is needed to be done with tht being said then a full rebuild?
@@lilstunt1873 Maybe just a top end build but if a cylinder is cracked that wont do you any good.
