The hidden views might be a good experiment for UA-cam to really see how/what small, underrated or undiscovered channels' quality of making videos actually are. Since views relate to the clickability of the video, if everything is just thumbnails and titles, imagine how much more smaller channels gain views and bigger channels having lower views than they are always having. Seems like a good indicator if a video is really good or bad, not based on the views rather than hiding the like and dislike video which was a good indicator if a video is also good or bad.

If you're a small channel and you're making a big/edited video make sure you think of the best everything from the title, description to tags. 3) BRANDING: Make sure to set up your channel settings and other stuff like banner and profile picture. Try to make it as professional as possible and high quality so viewers want to subscribe or watch more videos. If you set a video to play on your channel page it instantly shows them what kind of content you make without them having to look for it. Also, don't make a channel trailer since they are outdated. Just put your latest video or one you want to get more traffic. Finally put your most popular videos tab on your channel page so viewers can see that you can get a lot of views and you're just trying to get into the algorithm. I would also like to comment on somethings from this video that I've noticed from a personal standpoint to a viewer. Social proof is a problem because we are not looking for "new" creators. We are looking for video or content from someone who already has a trusted audience. So, with that being said if you video does not take off after the first day and the seo is complete then you messed up on your title/thumbnail and unless the algorithm picks it up again you can still change them and pray it starts getting views again. This was such an amazing video from start to end... some great insights! (Using them effectively might not be that easily, but great insights nevertheless!) 😊
An easy hack for a good tittle and thumbnail is this. Think of the tittle as the reason why a viewer might be interested in the video and the thumbnail as something that serves to make them curious. I think of the thumbnail as something that serves to make the viewer raise questions, naturally, human beings are creatures of curiosity hence the viewer clicking the video to satisfy their curiosity. Even though the title is important, the thumbnail is what will set you apart from someone doing the same video as you.
PLEASE, just do your own thing and don't look back. The news groomers in the screen room will eventually train you to use code words. Your audience will only grow and stick around if they feel like they could be hanging in the same room with you discussing whatever you're discussing. Nobody wants to hang out with a slick overproduced person.
Social proof in regards to view count is based on generation, I think. Younger people talk about this a lot more, so it seems to matter more to some groups than others. Personally, I don't click based on views.
I'm guilty of falling into the social proof trap. I research a lot of programming tutorials and I generally look at the view count as a go/no-go test. The exception to that rule is when only one creator has posted a video covering the topic I was looking for.
I've improved a lot in my editing over the years and now include a lot of animated slides as I discuss certain jewelry making topics rather than just have the audience always watching my "talking hands" on the screen. I don't think that matters, however, as viewer retention seems to drop to 35-50% pretty rapidly for each video. I'm so exhausted by data and want to enjoy sharing my skill and beading product knowledge...but trying to crack the code is important for growth. So...I'll need to re-watch and strategize. Thanks for the tips!
This is great advice! My views and subscribers have stagnated in the past couple days so im looking for anything that could help me to keep growing. Thanks for the great content vidiq and keep creating everyone!
For me, I look at thumbnail and how longe the video is. Sometimes if the video is too long you have to forward to get to the specific thing I need. So if I see a video that as 15 mins and another video has 5 minutes. I’m going with the 5 minute video first if I don’t know either creator.
UA-cam has started to suggest videos to me with low views, and I must say the topics are on point but the production value is almost always very very low.
What I really want to know is if these big channels that blew up advertised their videos outside of UA-cam because sometimes “blowing up” seems so arbitrary. A channel that started three months ago has 4 videos and 3,500 subscribers and all of the videos have over 30k views. Seems fishy like UA-cam puts these channels in your path to keep you going but it’s all a trick to force your brain into hoping that you too can one day be a big creator on their platform.
That sounds like excuses to me, if the audience wants to really see your videos UA-cam is going to promote them. Get better, identify what aspects you can improve and keep working.
@@Andy_ELMZ I don't think it is. If you look at your own analytics and have watched previous videos on this channel you'll see where you cracked the formula and earned 100 thousand plus views. You double down like these gurus advise but the result is different on following videos. So you look at your impressions and what do you find? UA-cam showed your videos to 80% less people. So my point is maybe views out of the gate due to external traffic sources make a difference. That's an extremely valid point.
@@thingsthatmakeyousayhmm at the end of the day it’s all about audience retention and clicks. Make sure you have great numbers in both and then you can start to blame “ something else “. But if you keep thinking it’s someone else foul then you never going to work on fixing it. My own experience, I monetized my first channel after only 5 videos, and whenever I dont get views, I blame myself and come back with a new strategy. My humble opinion. Good luck !
Interesting stuff. Care to send me the link to your monetized channel? I have proof that what you're saying isn't the standard across the board. My retention on all my videos is in the 60 to 70 percent range and I average 1000 views per video. So what is your explanation now? Even the people that create the algorithm can't control it. Yes there are things you can do to improve your views but VidIQ themselves has said sometimes the algorithm just doesn't recommend your videos. I'm talking strictly views as a result of doing the "right" things not from your current subscribers or external forums where you post and people decide to support. I mean raw, organic growth. New viewers that see and watch.@@Andy_ELMZ
There's one mistake in this video, that I found out. If you have an endscreen, talk about it, call to action etc... your average viewtime decreases a lot. I removed talking about it, and get much better results.
It would indeed be interesting to see, if UA-cam hid the views UNTIL someone clicked the video, so the view count wouldn't be visible until a viewer was already on the page for that video.
I for-sure consider how many views a video gets before I click. Low views (and I don’t recognize them) I won’t click. High view count and I don’t recognize them, I’ll give them a shot. There’s so many videos uploaded everyday (and many are subpar) that you assume it helps you filter out those bad ones. Being a small UA-camr, I recognize the conundrum.
I got a decent improvement in my thumnails and ctr kinda look good now . But my retention seems very low . Video is exactly what i promise through my thumnails and title but viewers dont watch for long idk why. Will try out some stuff in future vids to improve 👍
@@WayOfTheZombie subs are short viewers but they most of them aren't watching my long vids . 95% of my long vid audience is new viewers . Need to improve my editing significantly ig 🥲
@@WayOfTheZombie no. My short subs barely watch long vids . They all r new viewers. Recent vid stats - Almost 11min long vid, 72% still watch at 0:30 mark and 34% watch till end . I think its a decent improvement for me on the hook but then the retention just keeps falling until 1:45 min and then barely any dip in retention until end
Social proof is real! When I see a good thumbnail and title, I unconsciously look at the upload date then the numbers of views. It make me wonder what YT's intent was, originally, to publicly tag that metric to each video. When I see a good thumbnail and title, I unconsciously look at the upload date then the numbers of views. I usually still watch but I assume most people will skip over it for a video with a higher view count.
The biggest problem with yt is most people do clickbait to get views. This makes the algorithm hackable on a simple scale. Billions of videos use clickbait. So it isn't about the views, it's about the title. Only after we click do we learn the video is garbage. Views means nothing to me, if after the first 5 seconds I tell "don't show this creator again" option. My time is precious, you better damn well give your best offerings or I will make sure your content comes nowhere near me.
Our channel is completely different, we are about adventures and travel. We are fairly new (around 5 months) and only just reached over 200 subscribers and 21 videos. Still feel as though we’re getting it wrong. What I don’t get is , we seem to get the subs but disappointing views. Can you cover this kind of niche?
Something that people do that they need to stop doing when it comes to content creation is settling into a rhythm before you are successful. Being in the early stages with absolutely little to no eyes is a blessing in so many ways. If this thing you did doesn't work, change something. If that thing isn't clicking, throw it out and do something else. You have the freedom to play with as many ideas as you can fit into your head, but people are so damn afraid to stray away from the satus quo. JackSepticEye or Markiplier make videos where they zoom in on their camera and cut away and do this and that, so naturally I MUST do exactly what they do because they are the almighty example for my own success........OR........Maybe you can be the guy who breaks the mold and everytime you die in a game your audio gets slightly worse on purpose until its absolute trash. Sounds rediculous right? Whos gonna know? And if it works, you just figured out who you are. Be different, be weird, be you!!!
Thumbnails for me are a make or break it. The TN could be the best but if the image is offputting I wont click on it. Title is important and the same. It makes or break of I decide to click. I dont consiously click based on views, though I have huge bias towards channels Im subbed to already or names that have collaborated with those I follow. I hate click bait and I dont like titles that are super controversial or feel aggressive to me, or deal in absolutes. I'll avoid those.
Thanks for having me! 🙌

Thank you! It was very interesting!
Wow 💯 I love this
UA-cam Should remove Social Proof features. VidIQ you should do something about this!
Very educational !
This was a very valuable video
I got a decent improvement in my thumnails and ctr kinda look good now . But my retention seems very low . Video is exactly what i promise through my thumnails and title but viewers dont watch for long idk why. Will try out some stuff in future vids to improve 👍
If your subs are shorts viewers then...
Thanks for the tips! I'm bringing life back into my youtube channel trying to pass the 1000 subscriber mark. Staying Curious :)
I noticed the change in the thumbnail. It was Mr Beast on the left, wasn't it? 🤔
Spot On
Can someone tell me why I can't use the hashtags feature I've been paying 50 per month to use? It's changed now ..Can someone tell me please?
Ur videos are very helpful ❤ can u make a video on how to be consistent and gain infinite 💡 (ideas)
I have started a UA-cam channel to make money to feed and treat my mother i will get there this year with faith
My time is precious, you better damn well give your best offerings or I will make sure your content comes nowhere near me.
social proof is why music channels benefit from view botting
A reason why vidiq don't move up always talk about how to monitizer UA-cam😢😢😢
Great tips 😊and yeah social proof does exist :(
Thanks for information
"life anew!"
My views are doing well lately had a great spike recently and have hit 500 subs. Thankful for everyone of them.
