- HJC CL-17 Helmet Review www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/hj... The HJC CL-17 is the replacement for the CL-16 entry level full face helmet from HJC. Some of the new features in the CL-17 include a new shell shape, improved venting and aerodynamics, and an expanded size range. Developed using some of the technology borrowed form both the FG-17 and the RPHA 10 helmets, the CL-17 was developed using wind tunnel testing for improved aerodynamics and venting. The internal fitting shape is now more true neutral that should fit a wider range of heads. Improvements to venting include functional side chinbar venturi vents and an additional intake brow vent for a total of 10 intake and exhaust, up from 7 in the CL-16. The new CL-17 will not include the Pinlock lens insert, but the new faceshield is Pinlock ready with adjustable Pinlock screws. The expanded size range on the CL-17 will include sizes up to 5XL, up from 3XL in the CL-16. Sizes 3-5XL will carry DOT ratings only. The CL-17 is available in a variety of graphics and solid options.

i have literally watched over 50 helmet reviews over the last 3 days and im come to the conclusion that Anthony is a clone
This helmet saved my life!!!
Este casco me salvo la vida se los recomiendo
I picked up one of these in 2xl last month in blue / orange transformer style and am happy with it. When compared to my Arai Signet Q the vent's don't flow much air when it's hot and the shield gasket doesn't hold it back when it's cooler out. It's kind of a 45-85 degree helmet. Pin lock is extra as is the cheesy breath guard. The HJC does have some aero advantages over the Signet though. Wind noise is about the same.
see how many of these comments you reply to make me want to buy from you guys! keep up the good customer service
We'll certainly try! -DrewZilla
I wonder is the CL-17 share the same building aspects as the IS-17. Do you know if the only real difference is the drop sun visor?
Just a heads-up, i have the HJC TR1 which has the same visor mechanism and it is EASY to push it a little from the sealed position into the "city" position and it gives a nice bit of airflow while not affecting vision, just like it should. works well after 3 years and around 15000km of daily city riding and a few tours, the visor is still buttery smooth and clear as air (except for a scrath or two from bumps). All in all, HJC's entry level helmets seem to be quite good and i think i will stay in the brand when i buy my next helmet, deffinetly recomended!
Is the visor the same in both CL-16 and CL-17?
I have a CL-16 and want a new visor but only see cl-17 visors.
Thank you
Just purchased one barely used for 80 bucks. Still a great product. Wish I watched this first as I didn't notice the vents.
Are the HJC CL 17 Liners and Cheek pads compatible with CL ST 2?
Bought this helmet for $50.00 several years ago at a local store. I've ridden it coast to coast in the US, twice, and have to say, for the money, it's been fine. Pros: it fits me perfectly at XL, has been issue free over the four years I've owned it, is still working fine and road with it today, Cons: I don't feel an obvious difference when vents are open or closed. Always wondered if something was wrong with the venting...😼
Hi Revzilla I'm just wanting to know what the Velcro at the chin point on this helmet is for? is it for an aftermarket chin wind stop attachment point?
alex Hombsch The Velcro is to attach a breath box which works great!
which do you like the most, the ss-1200, icon alliance GT, or the hjc cl 17
Unless you really want an internal sun visor, I find the CL-17 to be the best of those three. -DrewZilla
Hi Revzilla,
I have a HJC IS 33 in XL. How does the fitment for this helmet compare to the IS 33?
It has a similar fit, so you'd likely do well with XL. -DrewZilla
Does this helmet have the sun visor ?
What defines a 'city' position? I'm able to rest my CL-17's shield just short of closed (cracked open only a little bit) for stop-and-go or sitting at lights.
We'd define a city position as the shield mechanism having a clear detent when the shield is open about 1/4-1/2 inch. While the CL-17 shield can be cracked ever so slightly, it's not enough for us to really call it a city position. -DrewZilla
Would this be a good choice for an upright to 3/4 riding position? Looking at getting a Honda CB250 or Rebel for my first bike. Would love to get the Shoei RF-SR but can't swing the $$ right now.
Yes, like the RF-SR, the CL-17 is ideal for 3/4 and upright riding. -DrewZilla
Which HJC helmet has the same fit but is a step up in cost and quality from this model?
The next step up is the FG-17, which is not the exact same fit, but it should be close enough to still fit for most people. -DrewZilla

Hello, I have HJC CL-Max 2 modular and it is very noisy :( I want to go to full face and I like CL-17, but I like Bell qualifier to.
which one do you recommend? which one is more quieter inside?
The Bell Qualifier is slightly quieter. -DrewZilla
where can i find the visor for this? i just ordered this, and can only find the visor all it shows on revzilla is the hjc-hj09
The HJ-09 is correct. That's the shield that is used on the CL-17. It is available in regular and Pinlock-ready versions. If you want Pinlock, you'll also need the Pinlock anti-fog insert linked below. -DrewZilla

Are there recesses for comm speakers?
The CL-17 does have space for in-helmet speakers, and should accommodate a Bluetooth headset easily. -TeamZilla AJ

I wanted to buy this helmet but I went with the modular version, the C90. Same material, polycarbonate. Where I am, Its 90f (degrees) year around with 60% humidity. The traffic lights are slow to change here... even with all the vents that the CL-17 offers, waiting 5+ minutes at a light in that this kind of climate will lead to heat stroke (not really, but you'll be very uncomfortable). I need to breathe, lol. I wish the C90 came with more than 2 lame vents (probably going to see a new model next year... just my luck). I'd feel more safer with a full face helmet... Cost was $50 more, we'll see if I made the right choice. --- Those with 4 seasons (not just 1; summer year around), I'd highly recommend the CL-17. Got a 5 star rating on Sharp as well... great helmet if you're on a budget... did a ton of research before pulling the trigger.
Which one is better, HJC CL17 or AGV k1 or k3 SV , now HJC has a marvel design for the helmet also AGV k1 especially has a new design like corsa and pista, instead of the design which one should i get ..? please advice ?
The K1 and K3 SV are better than the CL-17, but they are also more expensive. The K1 and K3 SV are similar quality, but the K3 SV has an internal sun visor, which makes it more expensive. -DrewZilla

I already have this helmet, but my question is, what pinlock insert is made for it? Model #?
I've linked the correct Pinlock insert below. Hope this helps! -DrewZilla

so, hjc cl 17 or nolan n64 ? i really want the n64, but im afraid i can't install my sena 10s on nolan, but what do you think guys ?
True, it's difficult to install a Sena 10S on the Nolan N64 due to the large gasket around the base of the helmet. Conversely, it's very easy to install a 10S on the CL-17. -DrewZilla
My head measures 59.3 cm.. That puts me between medium and large for this helmet, which do you guys suggest I go for?
At your measurement, I would recommend size large. -DrewZilla
Can you easily install a Sena into this helmet?
Yes, you can easily install a Sena. -DrewZilla
HI RevZilla. the HJC CL-17 is good or high quality helmet ? please help so i will order. thanks
It is a budget-friendly, affordable helmet that still passes the stringent Snell safety standard. There are better helmets from HJC as well as other premium brands like Shoei, Arai, and AGV, but they're all much more expensive. -DrewZilla

Would you guys recommend this or the Bell Revolver Evo in terms of what they have to offer? Both are at similar price points here in Australia for me, just wondering on your opinion.
If you want a flip-up chin bar and drop-down internal sun visor, go with the Bell. However, the Bell is a bit heavy, so if you don't need the sun visor and modular design, the full-face HJC is lighter. -DrewZilla
If you don't mind me asking, how did you find them in terms of comfort and airflow?
Thanks for the fast responses, really appreciate it!
I find the HJC more comfortable and slightly better-vented than the Bell. As the HJC is lighter, it's a bit less fatiguing on long rides. -DrewZilla
How’s the quality compare to csR3 and the cl17 ?
Both have similar shell construction, but the CL-17 has a nicer interior liner and better ventilation. -DrewZilla
Which one will be better for HJC CL 17 vs MT KRE SV ?
Unfortunately we don't sell MT helmets here in the US, so we cannot really compare them. The CL-17 is a good helmet though. -DrewZilla
How's the road/wind noise in the helmet?
We find it's moderate. It's not the loudest, but we do recommend wearing ear plugs. -DrewZilla
I just looked at your site to order this in 5X but you only have it in black and I want it in white. Will you order more in white, or are you just selling what you have left?

Does this hjc model have a Sun visor ?
And does revzilla do world wide free shipping ?
No, it does not have a sun visor. Instead, look at the C70 linked below. For shipping, free shipping is only offered inside the United States. Worldwide shipping cost depends on size, weight, and destination. Once you add a product to your Shopping Cart, you can see the shipping cost at checkout. -DrewZilla

Heu Revzilla my size is like inbetween L and XL i tried on this model and the XL fit good but i felt a faint pressure in the middle of the forehead and i tried on the 2XL and it fit perfect but it felt like it would get loose after awhile. IDK which one to get the XL or 2XL??? my size is 23 1/2 in.
or what other helmet do you recommend in the 150 dollar range? i boughr an icon alliance befor but was too narrow for me and trashed it. im currently riding with a fly racing dual sport helmet XL but its way loose and need better protection ASAP.
The CL-17 has a round oval shape, while the Alliance has a narrow oval shape. What you need is an intermediate oval shape, and around $150, I highly recommend the Scorpion EXO-R410, likely in size XL. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/scorpion-exo-r410-helmets
What is the best riding position for this helmet?
+Jae Park The CL-17 is designed for a lot of different riding scenarios, so it works well in 3/4 to upright riding positions. It's not a race/track helmet, so it's not great for a full-tuck though. -DrewZilla
Hey, I have this helmet and for the most part, I love it, but I can't ride with it for more than 30 minutes at a time without getting intense pain around my temples. Would you guys happen to know of any helmets in this price range that have a more "round" fit?
+Aanex The CL-17 is one of the roundest helmets in its price range. You may actually want to try on a helmet that's a bit longer front to back with a similar width. Consider the Scorpion EXO-R410. Also, what size helmet are you wearing, and what does your head measure around the crown? -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/scorpion-exo-r410-helmets
+RevZilla Haha, I realized that I'm wearing a size too small. I just measured my head, and it turns out I was wearing a medium when I should have been wearing a large. Thanks for the help! I'll be sure measure my head more carefully the next time I buy a helmet. :P
+RevZilla Hey Brian, I used to have a Scorpion EXO700, it fit me great . Do you think this will work for a similar head shape? Thanks!
Can you attach a GoPro to this HJC C-17?
Yes, you can. You can use a GoPro side mount for the side or front of the helmet or use a top mount for the top of the helmet. -DrewZilla
Does the visor for CL17 fit into the HJC CS-15 model too?
Since the CS-15 isn't sold here in the US, I haven't been able confirm it, but looking at all the pictures of the CS-15, it looks like it does use the same HJ-09 Shield as the CL-17. -DrewZilla

RevZilla thanks a lot (:
You're welcome!
If I wear a 7 7/8 hat should I get an XL ???
It's hard to say just based on hat size, so I do recommend using a cloth measuring tape to find your head circumference in inches or centimeters. Then use the size chart on the product page to determine your size. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/hjc-cl-17-helmet
My head measures 22 inches, should I get a small?
Yes, a 22" measurement would be at the bottom end of a size Small so you should definitely go with that. The helmet will break in about 10-15% with time/use and should fit perfectly after that. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Gear Geeks in customer service! - Pat
What's the difference between the CL-17 and CS-15?
The CL-17 is a step up in quality and offers more venting than the CS-15. -DrewZilla
I bought an icon... I miss my hjc
no speaker pocket?
There aren't any recessed speaker pockets, but there is still room for speakers. -DrewZilla
is this helmet is good for long tour?
If it fits you well, then it is good for long touring. -DrewZilla
Great video! But you said "as I flip over my cl-16.." 3:20 lol its a 17 !!
Which helmet as of 2020 would you recommend? I want something that’s budget friendly (new rider don’t wanna drop Shoei money if I’m not gonna commit) but still offer good protection
Get an MT LS2 or an SMK best beginner and pro type helmut companies too
@@yohaanbillimoria5761 I made this comment and then bought a qualifier a week after
Hi RevzZilla
I am confused between two helmets.
Could you pick a better one or at least give a comment on which one to buy and why. THANKS!!!

BTW I really like lite weight helmet...
I'd ride at 250 Kph/155 mph... So I wanna consider overall impact of wind/noise, crash impact. Which absorbs better crash impact. Anti fog visor and stuff like that... I have to order one of them asap.... Considering the fact that HJC is a poly-carbonate and Lazer is fully Carbon Fiber this is what's making me fully confused.
The helmets won't be quiet at those speeds, but the Lazer is lighter, so i'd recommend you go with the Lazer Kestrel. -DrewZilla
Are they good enough to bear a crash at 250 kph / 155 Mph?
We cannot make any claims for that, as there are so many variables for a crash, especially at that speed. I will say that the HJC is Snell-rated, which does tend to favor safety at higher-speed impacts. The Lazer Kestrel is ECE-rated, which tries to accommodate a wider range of speeds including slow-speed impacts. -DrewZilla
Thanks that answers my question. Will go with the HJC CL-17...
if you have money for a 155mph bike, maybe u could afford a little more to protect your head?
I like HJC CL-17 more cool air going through it plus come in 2xl because Bell Qualifier xl did not fit!!
how about the wind noise?
@@dulf4102 I just review guy said because in Texas very hot wear full face motorcycle helmet! I did not test helmet wind noise yet my order did not came in yet to late July third?
I have fg15. Need new helmet
At 3:20 seconds he calls the cl 17 a cl 16. Revzilla you should have caught that.
King Murphy I thought I heard that. he should talk a little slower. 😀
Is this Snell Certified ?
Yes, this helmet is DOT and SNELL certified up to size 2XL.
@@RevZilla Thank you for the Info. Also if you could you suggest any other Helmet similarly.
Roof desmo!!!??
Do it have bluetooth earbuds space ?
It does have speaker cut-outs, but they're pretty small. So if you're using earbuds, I think they'd work just fine. -Kraus-e

Why is it you guys always use the ugliest color choice for your reviews? There isn't even a yellow to chose from on the website
O.G.Metal I don't know about "always". Many times we choose graphics based on how easy they are to see on camera so our viewers get the best representation. Also, there are times when the products we receive are directly from the manufacture and we don't get to choose. We do the best we can with the tools we have and we're always looking to improve. Thanks for your feedback. Have a great week! -Hi-Viz Brian
Fair enough. I don't want you to think I was trying to bash your site with my comment. I've actually got 3 items bookmarked for next month when I get my bonus, and should have my new bike by then as well.

Yamaha Fz-07. I had an Fz6r I'd bought in 2009, but sold it last year because I hadn't rode in awhile. Started getting that riders itch so I started researching, and put the down payment on it Monday. They just have to get the color I want to the shop.
O.G.Metal I love it! Congratulations. 2015 is going to be a fun year for you. If you haven't checked them out yet, fz07.org is an awesome forum! Introduce yourself to Cruizin and tell him I said hi! -Hi-Viz Brian
The only problem with this helmet is that it's loud as fuck, windy and loud.
The HJC helmet is NO GOOD when you don't have visor attachment hardware on the helmet to snap the visor on!
This is a great helmet until you break your attachments. Then it is JUNK.
The screws are JUNK. They are VERY cheap plastic and they all break! All of mine did. Mine broke down inside the helmet. I guess I could drill them out and re-tap the hole. Ever tried to re-tap soft plastic!
Great Helmet until you try to fix it. Then it becomes a helmet without a Visor FOREVER!!!!!
Sad that a company would ruin customers helmets by trying to make money on a 1/10 of a cent part!
I will never buy an HJC helmet again!!
Just wait until you need to put in new attachment hardware because your breaks. Throw you helmet away first. Then you won'g get so mad when you find out it can't be fixed!
Hi Revzilla. I know this video is old but I just want to ask if the CL-17 has a single frame size for all of its sizes. Thank you in advance.
The CL-17 has 3 shell sizes, split between XS-MD, LG-2XL, and 3XL-5XL.
