My usual requirements are ECE, Pinlock, as quiet as possible, Modular, an internal sun visor, chin curtain and intercom in that order of preference. My current helmet is a matte black Shoei Neotec 2 and I have the integrated sena installed too. Ticks all the boxes, makes commutes comfortable and well worth the expense in my opinion.

Dont waste your money on 'antifog spray'
See that dish detergent in your kitchen?

@@OBENSquad_21 No. It does not. I mean, sure it keeps the visor fog free for a couple more breaths than it would normally, in like 0 C. Tried it on multiple occasions, spoken with friends that have tried it. Pretty useless all round, be it anti-for spray, or the detergent / shaving cream method.
Pinlock is the only thing that works, and even that is heavily dependent on the helmet.
I have an AGV K1 with an installed Pinlock which is garbage, and an HJC Rpha 90 with a Pinlock that is pretty effective, yet not 100% fog proof in very cold scenarios.

Never buy a helmet that is DOT only. Manufacturers get to "self-certify" for DOT.
ECE or Snell and full face only. No modulars. Also make sure that you know how to fit it. If it goes on easy, it's too loose. When you buy your helmet, get some new liners/cheek pads at the same time so you can change them out when the helmet starts to loosen up. If 2-3 years when you need them, they will likely be discontinued.
Really looking forward to the developments with FIM homologation. That is going to shake things up and manufacturers will have to get their ish together.

I always wear HJC ... they have the highest kite mark (UK safety testing). They are rated as being safer than helmets that will cost you $500.
So I have always worn HJC ... never had to put it the test myself thank the Gods of Valhalla.

    • @STho205
      @STho205 4 роки тому

Like HJC five years before, they have recently dropped the SNELL cert to be able to add drop sunshields. Can't have a giant hole in the crown foam and a moving plastic and metal internal parts over your skull and be SNELL.
two years ago their UA-cam shillmen pushed their snell as crucial, to dis HJC and others that had flashy features for the same price. Now they magically rarely mention it.

Before you buy a helmet, get a UV thermometer (about $20 at Harbor Freight and good for many things). Get some other color helmets from friends. Get a gloss black, gloss white, flat or stain black, flat or satin white.
Set them in the sun at minimum 85 degrees for and hour+ to be sure they are fully heat soaked. Measure the temperature of each helmet. Now decide for yourself how well done you would like your brain. If you still can't decide, you've been wearing a gloss black helmet too long.

One of these days, someone will have to be honest about why a brand like Shoei or Arai cost so fricken much when there are decent helmets like HJC that cost 3-5 times less: Cost of Operation and Brand. Yes, a popular brand can and will charge much higher than what they really should because they have that market value in their mind. Sometimes, their cost to create a helmet is also higher due to cost of labor and/or material as well as the features they put in but brand mark-up plays the biggest role, bar none.

Good question. Went to the MC dealer looking for helmets and you either pay $150 or $400-$500+.

I crashed my S1000RR at about 240 km/h my e faster. Top of end of forth gear. I tumbled for about 30m in waist high grass and then hit a tree. My HJC helmet saved my life. Just saying.

Great video, thanks again and happy holidays. I have two requests, and maybe you can help us:
-Do you know of a modular, dual sport helmet, with built-in Bluetooth?
-Will you be reviewing more higher priced helmets in the future?
    Thanks!

If ppl dont know SHARPS ratings are worth looking at to help when looking into buying a helmet. Plenty of cheaper helmets with 4 or 5 stars. Like exo 420, agv k3 k1 the hjc in the video ect. No excuse not to have a safe and good fitting helmet.

I don't agree with the argument that people don't want to wear a full face because of the style, but I completely disagree with the argument that it's too expensive. You can't pretty much always get one for a hundred bucks, even if that's twice the price of an open face it's really not much especially compared to the high quality helmets.

I'd avoid thermoplastic shells. They shatter easily and do zero to mitigate the impact the way even fiberglass shells do.
There are inexpensive helmets with better shells.

I'd love to hear an opinion on the LS2 Challenger GT helmets. They're light, ECE certified and stupid cheap for what they are on RZ right now. Almost suspiciously cheap. The specs look good to me but I'm finding hardly any good reviews from people I'd trust on the safety.
