I've just purchased the R model, I've purchased the seat cowl as an extra ,it looks great ,I agree that it was down to preferance as I don't do track days ,I have the silver ice colour and in the sunshine the matalic flake certainly shines ,this is my first Triumph I've always had Suzuki in the past but this Street Triple is an amazing bike👍

I ended up with the RS as my first A cat bike went from a benelli leonchino 125cc, my god this 765 rs is a monster, i'm only 5 ft 4 as well, and the lighting i didnt know that you could switch both DRL lights on! thanks

Not forgetting the R is available with a lowered seat which isn't available on the RS. Very important if you have short legs.

Wondering whether I should take the plunge and by one of those mirrorless Sony alphas for in garage stuff (+”Bike News”)….but not sure I can do with the hassle of buying new lenses…not to mention the ££££

I definitely like the iPhone camera angle better and if you have the latest Pro model, you can get quite close to some objects when filming. And if you do decide to stick with the iPhone, there are plenty of gimbals you can use to create a really steady video.

Thanks for another informative video. I have just completed running-in on my white R and am thrilled with it. My only mod will be span-adjustable levers - the R comes with one for the brake only whereas it looks like the RS has both?

Andy: "let me just fiddle with the R's light!" Me: "Pfft! 🤭"
What with the camera, your iPhone did really well. What little shaking there was was definitely bearable. There is some pillow distortion visible anyway. Now I am just a poor boy (And yes, nobody loves me. 😫) and can't afford them flashy GoPros, but I remember reading/hearing that the latest GoPro models have a pillow distortion compensation in their software. Apparently that one isn't too efficient then?

To each his own but I really dislike lime green and I suppose that is why I never liked Kawasaki green. I dislike the rear light/plate hanging bracket. They look like either would make for a spirited backroad ride as well as curvy mountain roads. I remember the first time using Brembo brakes (1995 R1100R BMW) surprised the he'll out of me. After years riding Honda's with Nissen brakes I nearly launched myself over the handlebars. My last bike was a 2016 Indian Scout and those brakes did the job they reminded me of using drum brakes.

It would have to be the RS, the main reason being that every time I opened the garage door I would be disappointed that I didn’t buy the yellow bike.
Not wanting to tell you how to suck eggs, but you should try a gimbal with your I phone.
I use one for sales vehicle video walk around and for tad over £100 you can have perfectly stable pictures.

Thanks for that suggestion - hadn't thought of that - the reason for using the iPhone ws to try and reduce the number of cameras I carry....ury is kind of out at the moment, may have to invest in something dedicated for this type of video (a mirrorless Sony or summit)....£2K though!

Actually there are 3 choices in the Triumph family for me.. The R would suit me better then the RS but the RS in the yellow is superb. My 3rd choice would be the Tiger 660 Sport, a bit less power but the comfort on the Tiger 660 Sport suits me better than either the "R" or "RS". The "R" and Tiger Sport 660 have better instruments in my opinion.
The Tiger Sport 660 also has better touring accessories.

Such a shame the Street R doesnt have better colours. The yellow is stunning and the orange on the Speed RS also. I rode a Street R at ABR Festival loved how playful it was. Just bland colours.

  • @photographerjonathan
    @photographerjonathan 4 місяці тому +3

It seems like the RS is worth the extra money. ( seat cowl, belly pan, LCD display, sport tires, Ohlins shock, better brakes, 10 more horse power, 2 pounds lighter, and allot nicer color. Im just not into the grey color. and the yellow and red are really nice. I test road the RS and really liked it. one of the nicest sounding stock bikes I have ever ridden. and I feel at home sitting on it. unfortunately where I live the price is allot more than most other places. the only negative is that its a naked bike and I was getting hammered by the wind when riding it. as far as how the two compare. I like a tachometer that looks more like a real tach. so I don't like the look of the tach on the RS. and I like the lower seat on the R and the softer suspension. but I think I would still have to buy the RS.

  • @MarkATaylor

For me, since I do have the obligatory 1.5h highway run before hitting some fun twisty roads, the fact that the cruise control is only available on the RS was also an important factor. That and the yellow paint of course :)

It's not just the callipers that are different. The master cylinders are axial on the R and radial on the RS.
The m\c tends to make a big difference, anyone that's fitted an upgraded\aftermarket one will know what I mean.

You need to adjust the suspension on the RS to make it more compliant on the road. Once done it rides just as well as the R if not better. So, in fact the RS is the better bike. You have a greater range of adjustment. It's just that people are not setting it up when they should do.

  • @michaelmclarney1994

In theory the R would suit my riding best but the colours would probably sway me to look at other bikes instead. I agree with you and miss the brighter colours triumph used to do. If the offered other colour options, even for a couple of hundred quid extra, would be a good move.

I’ve been learning to ride on a variety of bikes, and spent a day on the R and two on the RS, and what swings it for me is the downshifter on the RS (the R is up shift only I think). Edit: possibly the R I rode was a little older, which might account for the difference.

As to the bike comparison, thanks for that. It would be great if you could answer the rear shock difference by taking the bike to a suspension specialist or even having a tinkering with it yourself to see if it could be made similar to the R. If the colour won you over, how difficult and cost effective might it be to get the R resprayed??? (If you bought one) Triumph seem a bit stingy with their colour offerings, I only realised this with the new 400 S recently unveiled. Retro looks , three colours of which two are shared with the 400 scrambler. Very uninspired.

Is the seating position on the R more upright than the RS? I just recently sold my 18' Street Triple due to severe neck pain when riding. Never liked the "Sitting on Top" position of the previous generation Streets. I did test ride the new R recently and and liked the position better than my old one-felt more like I was sitting into the bike instead of on top, like my first 2013 Street S. I just felt like they cheapened the bike up on the switch gear side with the R and is it true the fuel tank is plastic now? I also was not impressed with that TFT from the 660 models on the new R, which is why I'm more interested in the RS. However, if the RS is more of a stretch and less upright than the R, then that would be a deal breaker for me. I did love the power on the new R and it does have a bit more of a growl to the exhaust. What are your thoughts on the seating position of the RS vs. the R? Unfortunately I could not ride an RS yet, but hopefully one will come into my dealership soon. Also looking at a leftover 2021 MV Agusta Turismo Veloce Rosso, which I saw your reviewed several years ago. Enjoy your channel immensely!

Interesting that we bikers have a need for style and performance that’s often mitigated by our sense of frugality. But, while frugality is tethered to practical matters, for the majority of us motorcycles are totally optional and have little to do with practical matters. So, for me, after deep reflection much math and complex considerations I’ve concluded . . . I’d take the yellow one.

At higher speeds the 'R' felt loose and a little scrawly on high speed bends on the edge of the Tyre. I blamed the cheaper Tyres, but I believe it to be a combination between Tyres and Shocks. An average commuter wouldn't care or shouldn't care, however a sporty rider will notice this quickly! I have an RS from 2020 and I suppose I had similar concerns. I’m not a fast rider and I don’t do track days but I still bought the RS. 3 and a half years on, I bought the bike outright 6 months ago because it’s so good and I intend to keep it. I set the suspension to it’s comfort setting and it’s not harsh at all. The tyres are basically road legal racing tyres but they work around town just fine… I suppose the only downside of them is I wore them both out in just over 5000 miles and they were pretty expensive for a new pair so that would be something to consider if you do a lot of miles. All that said, if I was to buy one of the new bikes I would buy the RS (even though the R would be good enough)

PS …… please have BOTH headlight on Simultaneously !! I don’t appreciate the look and more importantly …… being stopped by the Lawman, thinking that I need to replace my “ Dead “ headlamp !
    Rubbish !

Not a fan of the TFT on the R looks cheap and toylike, don't think the price gap is too bad not to justify the RS, especially if you can blag a deal and it just looks great in Yellow

I personally enjoyed more this footage. It has more light, and better definition of imaging details, I think. Don’t know if the change affects the sound but it was clearly too👌🏻

GoPro Quality is higher ifeel. iPhone is blurrier less balanced colours. Fisheye is fine IMO.

Enjoyed the video. Nust wondered how you would compare the street triple r with yam xsr900. You did say you would prefer to mt09 but I think the xsr may be better irrespective of what your preference on styling.

Yes I’m not a fan of the xsr looks wise but it rides really well - reminds me of the Street Triple actually….

Hi Andy - v. interesting but subtle differences between GoPro and iPhone. Definitely no fisheye with the iPhone, but the iPhone seemed fractionally less sharp… but not significant at all. On balance I’d go with the iPhone. Cheers.

Yes I thought the picture was a bit soft too - generally it seems people like the iPhone footage though….

iPhone was fine. I noticed both bikes had heated grips which I didn’t think was standard. I’m not a fan of TFT and find the unit on the R is, shall we say, not at all attractive, and is the one reason why I eventually chose not to swop my 2021 R for a new one. Also I understand that with the new TFT machines a dealer reset is required if the battery is disconnected.
Your comment about the extra bhp of the RS, which it should have over the R, being hardly noticeable was interesting. There is a 10mm spacer on the top of the RS rear suspension unit which can be removed, termed by Triumph as a suspension linkage adjustment 🤣 Is this the way the rake on the front is increased, by raising the rear end?
Is the RS worth the extra crinkle, if you’ve ever ridden a Street Triple, whichever model, I doubt you will have found the real need for more urgency in power delivery. However Triumph’s total lack of imagination on colour schemes could well be the only real reason to goe RS as the enhanced techy bits will only give bragging rights.

If i was going to buy one, i really don`t see the point in paying the extra for the RS when the R will do everything i want. Yes i prefer the colour of the RS, yes i like the belly pan and seat cowl, but they are extra`s you could haggle with when buying.
I`ve absolutely no interest whatsoever in doing trackdays, so there`s no point in buying the RS.
Great summary Andy, thanks for posting.

To me this video shot on the iPhone looks way better. I am looking to upgrade from the mt07 to something fancy. And I’m leaning towards the RS. Did you fiddled with the drive modes in the RS. Do you think rain mode is good and not bonkers enough for an intermediate rider me.
