If you didn't live through the 80's, you can't appreciate how big of a star Madonna was. She was EVERYWHERE.
And I think she sounds terrible these days at her concerts... doesn't compare to Tina Turner at 65.
@@michaelasay8587 madonna sang her entire recent tour live, save for two spoken word songs, and her vocals got universal praise. And shortly after that last Tina Turner tour she permanently got terribly sick and never performed again. The fact that y’all keep using her to insult Madonna is disgusting.

This is from Madonna's first album so it's in 1983. "Starlight, Starbright is from a children's lullaby. She's using it here a different context.

This was her very first trip into the Top 5 back in autumn 1984.
She'd have oh so many more such trips...fifteen more just by the end of the decade.
She looks plastic today. Too afraid to age. She should have retired a while ago.

When she hit the scene, every girl started dressing like this! Either a little bit with just the headband or full on just like in this video.
Such an impact on the youth.
The hair, the makeup, the bangle bracelets and the see-through tops and black shear bras - all the girls were identical Madonna-minis! I used to wear all the bangle bracelets in multiple colors.
Punk/goth girls were already doing variations of that. This was just another example of Madonna capitalizing on already existing underground/subculture styles.

LIVE TO TELL… I second that! I’m not a Madonna fan, but that song is very meaningful and one of my favorite tracks in 20th century music, period.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the song was called True Love, not True Blue.
This used to be my playground (from A league of their own) would be a great one too.
I used to watch American Bandstand, (a popular dance show that aired from 1952 to 1989). Madonna first appeared on this show on January 14, 1984, singing her hit "Holiday". When the host Dick Clark asked her "....what are your dreams?" Madonna responded with..."Mm, I want to rule the world." I think she pretty much accomplished her dream.

80s Madonna was so much fun. She set styles and trends, young girls everywhere were copying this look. She truly dominated the 80s.
Gen Z’s will NEVER understand just how big Madonna was/is. She broke so many records… and all before there was the internet to help. I’m sure her legacy will live on for many more generations. It should actually be studied because she was so ahead of the time.
She already is the subject of more research papers than even The Beatles.

Madonna became the success that she is, because she is, truly, the hardest-working woman in show business. She spends A LOT of time, many hours, working on her stage productions and choreography, and does the same for her work in the recording studio. Madonna’s work ethic is unmatched among female performers in the entertainment industry. She has EARNED all of the successes and achievements she has received.
You never hear arpeggiators like you used to
She is a trained dancer. You should consider reacting to her songs somewhat chronologically, since her music catalogue runs SO deep spanning so many decades. You would experience her evolution on song style and personal style. Start with eighties catalogue and work your way til now, rather than going back and forth between eras. Especially for someone like Madonna, she was ALWAYS changing up her look, very distinct looks,as you could see the difference between this look and the Vogue look of the ‘90’s, as well,as the musical style, same example. I think reacting to her music chronologically how you might have lived it is the way to go, imho 🤷🏻♀️ ❤
I can't even begin to tell you how much Madonna CREATED the look of the 80s. So many of us copied all these parts of her look. The mesh, the layers, the jewelry, the hair, everything. When you think of 80s fashion, so much of it came from her.

I saw her video "Borderline" on MTV, and knew immediately, this girl is going to be a huge sensation! There was no looking back..she was the hottest 80's female vocalist! She had it all, and pushed the limits just enough to keep everyone talking! Great choice and reaction!

@@lisalovemc717 I'm in the UK and Holiday was her first hit here,getting to number 6 in early 1984. Lucky Star followed,then Borderline,but the year ended with Like a Virgin becoming massive.
In 1985 she had Material Girl and Crazy For You,then performed at Live Aid and scored her first number 1 with Into the Groove. Holiday re-entered the charts and at one stage in August she had them at number 1 and number 2. Then was still time that year to squeeze in two more hits,Angel and Dress You Up.
Borderline was re-issued with much greater success in early 1986. Lots of girls dressed up copying her mid-80s look.
My memory can be a bit wonky sometimes after all these years,but I do still remember all that!

Madonna defined the 80s. This video was mine, and many others first look at her. Everyone was shocked because we all thought she was a black singer. The belly button showing caused A STIR. Controversial, but also won over a ton of fans. So funny because it's so innocent today. Her brother is dancing in the video behind her.

I saw her in concert 3 times- Like a Virgin Tour in ‘85- ticket cost $18.95, the Blonde Ambition Tour $35.95 and one more tour a year or two later $39.95 both in the early ‘90’s. great shows, great choreo, especially Blonde Ambition! I still have all three ticket stubs.
I think Madonna is under-rated nowadays and take for granted all those early hits after hits. She really was the Queen of Pop.

Karen Carpenter is the greatest vocalist and superb drummer too but in terms of back catalogue Madonna is the greatest solo female artist of all time.
80s Madonna: "Everybody", "Express Yourself", "Material Girl". 90s Madonna: "Ray Of Light", "Frozen", "Little Star" (she wrote that for her daughter). 2000s Madonna: "4 Minutes" (with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland), "Hung Up" (I think you will recognize the sample in this), "Sorry" (you could tell she was going through that divorce with this one). Madonna was 25 years old when she put out this album, her debut album. When this video came out, it was on heavy rotation on MTV, and not only did her popularity rise but her fashion sense as well. Girls of all ages were dressing like she is dressed in this video, and she was a mega star. Great reaction to one of her first hits!
I bought the Madonna debut the week it came out. That tape got the party going that Saturday in East LA. No one knew who it was but everyone was dancing.
She was the biggest star in the Universe, without social media or even internet! She's STILL the best selling female recording artist of all time! Pure sales, not streaming. We'll never see something as big as Madonna. The last music living legend.

80s Madonna is some of my guilty pleasure music, I don't normally listen to this type of music, but this song, "get into the groove", "borderline", "holiday", "burnin up", "cherish". so many good songs when you think about it.
I met Madonna back in 1996, She was buying her Father Tony Ciccone a new Cadillac and my Ex-Brother In Law was selling it to her in her hometown of Rochester, Michigan.

This is early 80s. I was in high school and wore fishnet gloves, belly shirts, floppy bows in my hair and an arm full of jelly bracelets. Haha! Her style was very influential for sure.
"Holiday" was one of her first hit songs and is another great dance beat. For some serious depth, check out "Don't Cry For Me Argentina." She played Evita Peron in the movie "Evita" and her version of that song is just stunning. For more late 90s/early 2000s Madonna, please check out "Don't Tell Me" for some more great dance moves, and "Beautiful Stranger" (which you heard in Austin Powers.)

Early Madonna, when the engineers tweaked her voice higher in order to make her sound younger, which they hoped would appeal to the younger girl audience. It did.
I recommend "Take a Bow." It is one of the most beautiful songs you will hear.

I have seen Madonna in concert several times. The Limited "Girly Show" at the Palace in Auburn Hills MI was great. I was about 4 rows back with my friend Mark. When "Lucky Star" started to play the stadium went crazy. This was the one that pretty much started it all. International recognition for Madonna. Everyone was singing together with her. So many fans were dressed like this even though the concert was well into her career and Vogue had already come out." Fantabulous" fun. This Madonna , was the best Madonna. The Jellybean & Nile Rodgers period. At least 2 (and a bit) of my bedroom walls , ceiling to floor full of magazine pix. Bought all of the singles, albums , 12's and Pic Discs. I don't really have many anymore they became valuable, and I sold them. One of my most valuable being a picture disk of this very track.
Brother Nile Rogers of Chic truly gave her The Funk! & she was jammin! Good review!
High school 83-86, I remember my dance team performing a competition dance to Dress You Up (In My Love) one year.
Her first album has 3 or 4 hidden gems that never get played.
Burning up the 12in. version is the on another level of dance music. It's a classic here in NYC.

Amber, those limes ARE from a kid's nursery rhyme! Hahaha! This was one of her 1st videos, I think "Borderline" was the 1st on MTV. It's funny how, she has a very good voice, but it's her whole package (the look, the dancing) that made her a Superstar!! Literally MILLIONS of girls/women started dressing like her! That she was so iconic in the 80's and managed to break out and change through the decades is what makes her a pop genius!!

OMG this is the best version of Madonna IMO! I was in 10th grade when she hit it big and we all dressed like her, from the rosaries, bracelets, fingerless gloves, and the hair tied up. I got sent back upstairs to change my clothes so many times! I can still hear my Daddy telling me to go back upstairs and find the rest of my skirt. 😂

This is from her first album and it was her second entry of 57 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also was her first Top Ten peaking at No. 4 in 1984. Interesting that you bring up Cyndi Lauper because she came up at the same time and the press tried to turn them into rivals. So much more 80s Madonna to check out. If you want one of her best IMHO, you've got to react to "Into The Groove" from '85 and Madonna's first film, "Desperately Seeking Susan."

"Borderline" was the first of 17 Top Tens, 16 of which were in the Top 5 including 7 No. 1's. The 80s were wild with talent, Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson all born within two months of each other in 1958. The same year and summer I was born. Very special time for music.

The most underrated Madonna song is "Open Your Heart" Great video. Great song. I remember seeing it on Dial MTV most requested every day for 4 months when I was 15. It never gets mentioned or showcased by reactors. Granted, she did have a ton of hits, so understandable some get overlooked.
I began counting how many reaction videos there are currently of "Open Your Heart" and I stopped at 20, but there were even more. So I have no idea what you are referring to when you say it is overlooked.
Open Your Heart was a huge hit. Not underrated at all.
@@dustinjones8887 well I get what your saying . Yes compared to all her other monster hit songs , open your heart isn’t the first track that comes to mind. In fact if I did not read this comment I would not have even remembered it , after reading all her other track titles lists in these comments of all her home run whammies that we all grew up on in the 80s.
@@dustinjones8887 the same can be said about Spanish Lullabies song , true it was awesome and popular and got lots of radio and video play , but it wasn’t like the songs off her “live a virgin” album
@@shyman99 - The best reactors that I've found and whom I watch, have never mentioned this song. Maybe I should've worded it that way. Most reactors suck. I have about 8 of them I love and watch on music reaction. ..I've probably already seen some of the reactors that do have this song, but didn't care for them. so I'm not going to watch reactors that don't do it for me.
Future suggestion: "Rain", "Justify My Love"

"Who's That Girl" (1987) is a great Madonna movie with a great soundtrack by her :)
Old school Madonna was the best. She truly was a great raw talent with excellent stage presence! I would check out her live performance of "Holiday" at Live Aid.
Once the 90’s hit, she had to up her game to increase attention on her. Her music started leaning towards dance music. En Vogue, Material Girl, etc. I like her 80’s better, as it seems more charming and simple.
Lucky Star was like 1983/84.
In her early songs, she sang so sharp (just above the pitch), but in a cute way. She could get away with it because she was instantly an icon. I bet all the girls in high school in the 80s went to school trying to look like her. (I was not alive then, but I imagine it.)
80s Madonna was just hit after hit. "Live to Tell" is my favourite from that era. However when the group Massive Attack were offered her to record as guest vocalist on their huge hit "Teardrop" they said no we want Liz Fraser instead and I hope you check it out to see why. The song is an ethereal classic with one of the most unusual and oddly compelling videos I've seen and if you think you've heard it on a TV show you would be right. They had many hits including the headspace "Angel" and the orchestral "Unfinished Sympathy" which will remind you of "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve but was released earlier.
Madonna live from "Confessions Tour": "Future Lover," "Get Together," "Jump," or "Isaac." All amazing performances. Watch the whole concert.

I was 4 years old in 83 and this was my first and favorite of Madonna’s. This song started the Madonna Madness for me. The catchy songs, the look, everything. I begged my mom to buy the cassette of her first album to play on the boombox and in the car. 😂
“Live to Tell” is a beautiful ballad from the 80’s. She looks stunning in it.
“Frozen” is late 90’s and phenomenal. Fantastic sound and so cinematic. The visual effects are unreal in the video. Superb!

"Material Girl" was my guilty pleasure as a kid. I remember singing to it no matter where I heard it! So catchy! I LOVED when they used it in Stranger Things! The ULTIMATE of 80's nostalgia!

This is from her first album in 83. She is the one who created this look. After this video and Borderline, every girl starting dressing like this. My sister had the star earing she is wearing and you only wear one. The bow, the bracelets, the lace gloves... it was everything for teenage girls back then.
