It was like finding gold, there was all this new stuff to explore! So i spent a couple of days exploring the area (i still had to go to school) and found the spike breaking armor. This immediately set off bells because I was _obsessed_ with the spiked hall in the bell tower. It's my belief that Maria's and Alucard's descendants are the Lecarde clan, and that Alucard himself forged the Alucard Spear that has been passed down for generations, an magic relic equal in power to the Vampire Killer.
Agreed. I read that Konami hada lot of budget problems for this game, and maybe some of that is the reason for the poor ending and other little problems throughout the game.
3:45 Something about Dracula reciting scripture always caught me off but, it's honestly my favorite and, it even makes Mathew 16:26 my personal favorite really.
"The devil can cite scripture for his purpose" - The Merchant of Venice also satan himself cites scriptures when confronting jesus in the desert (turn the stones to bread, jump to your death and summon angels, etc)
There's also a minor variation if you fight Richter with the googles on: Alucard says "Answer me!" instead of "So it is you..." at the beginning of the dialogue.
Still mad we never got to see the cut parts of the game, be it the garden area, the Maria ending/being playable or the part of the story where Maria got posessed like you mentioned
I have looked over and over on the map and I only got 190%. Man this game took forever to even get all of that. Top 3 castlevania games of all time for sure.
Dracula should have died at the end of this game. It's a perfect redemption arc and it ties things up nicely. Why did he have to stay alive centuries later.
It was revealed according to recent developments of Castlevania games that Dracula was originally a Belmont and Alucard was his son and also a Belmont. The game is canon and yet it is an alternate way to feature Dracula and Alucard about their background stories. At the Castlevania Symphony of the Night ending, Alucard said in reference to Lisa when talking to the dying Dracula 'Do not hate humans. If you cannot live with them, at least do them no harm.' and in telling Dracula 'it is because you lost that love'. This game implied that Dracula once loved Lisa and Alucard was their offspring. So how could an immortally evil being be able to love a human when his thirst for human blood is at hand? It was revealed(in other Castlevania games) that Lisa was hunted down by fellow humans for being treated a witch. Lisa, in her dying words, insisted on saying 'do not hate humans' when speaking to Alucard who was there. So in conclusion, the earlier and latter parts of Castlevania games connected together: Dracula was a given name to a human who made a grave misconduct and persist on doing evil deeds. Alucard, of course, is the name given to the one who opposes the evil actions of Dracula(as Alucard, being an inverted name). That is a fact being humans have surnames and the names Dracula and Alucard were just pseudonyms like the screen names given for actors and actresses. So as long as there are people who do grave misconducts and persist with them, 'Dracula' will always be reborn. Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow were proofs that Dracula can be resurrected that way but Alucard(as Genya Arikado), who is present in those games, prevented the evil people to do so.
I'll be honest, I played this game for the first time on an emulator in 2012 (was on a streak after playing Castlevania games on NES and SNES) with no other prior knowledge than that SOTN is popular among the fans, and I genuinely thought the worst ending was the only ending. Some things did seem odd, like Death making an appearance in the beginning but never fighting you later on in the game, this person called Maria roaming around the castle but having no effect on anything, and the typos in the names of the objects that seemed to be the gear that Death stole from Alucard (Alucart Sword, etc.). I thought that they simply misspelled them, since there had already been some other instances of faulty grammar. All because I went to Richter as soon as I got the bat ability and didn't explore the castle thoroughly. What got me to return to the game a week later to properly finish it was the number of tracks on the OST that never seemed to appear in the game, most notably Lost Paintings. It was very bewildering to realize that the game was actually much larger and had multiple endings. And then I realized there would have been multiple endings in Dracula X as well... I had been totally had; kudos to the designers and developers :D
It always confuses me that the ending where you dont find the holy glasses is worse then the one where you do. Lack of alternative vs choice to kill Richter. The second, most would say, is way worse.
I get what you're saying but I think the answer lies with Maria. In the worst ending Alucard never spoke to her a final time and she never gets any closure about Richter's disappearance and speaking from personal experience not having any clue what has happened to a loved one that has disappeared, well it sucks. On top of that Alucard is alone left to his thoughts. In the bad ending at least Alucard was able to tell her that Richter unfortunately couldn't be saved letting her process and begin mourning his death. Here as well Alucard seems to have found a bit of a friend in Maria seeing as he at least took the time to see her before his long slumber. That's just how I see it as making sense but certainly I can agree with your point about having no option but to kill vs making a choice. Though maybe it's assumed that you the player as Alucard tried but failed to set him free in that ending and not that Alucard made a conscious choice against saving Richter.

Thanks, dude, just beat the game for the first time and didn't know about the other endings. Mine was the worse one apparently, so it's back to exploring the castle.
I've always thought it's funny how whether Maria goes with Alucard or not is dependent on how much of the map you've filled in of all things lol. Richter: "Don't you want to go after him, Maria?" Maria: "...No, it's best this way." R: "I see... hey, what's this lying on the ground? Oh-it's Alucard's map! Looks like he filled in the whole thing, nice!" M: "..." R: "Maria?" M: "...Cartography is SO HOT!!!" (starts running after Alucard)
Why do I have a feeling that the Dracula of softn isn't the same as the others in Castlevania perhaps they are different Lord's that makes sense why there's a new Lord Everytime
Well you can play the official "prequel" Rondo of Blood on PS4 or PSP remake Dracula X Chronicles which has the original Rondo for PC Engine and reworked version of SotN with new, shittier voice acting and minor changes like more familiars, a boss fight with Maria and in this version she's playable as well.
Me too, although it is a sad ending but i always thought it’s the best one and has the best dialogue “Farewell land of my birth, never again will these eyes gaze upon your beauty”
Possibly though I have heard that she merely acted as a friend and companion, acclimating him back into the world. Though it's entirely possible that the two were lovers.
They released a drama cd about Maria`s and Alucard`s life after the game and it is more than heavily implied that they like each other and become a couple afterwards
I think the ending when you kill Dracula and alucard go on his way alone is the best alucard is a lonewolf he doesn't need a little girl to be on his side
I like the replay ability factor with multiple endings, but I’d rather have the ability to go back to the previous castle to further my percentage completion. Which is the only thing I liked better about Harmony of Dissonance
The dialogue and voice acting is pretty lackluster in the original version. The PSP redone voices and script are the better of the bunch. Everyone should check them out.
Nah, the original lines and voices were ham-fisted, but they also had a lot more emotion behind them. Compare Dracula's "Farewell, my son!" and you can easily tell the new version was phoning it in.
Just beat the game with the good ending. Gotta give the game credit for having a bad ending I actually like. It's interesting to see a Richter that's feeling worthless without a war to fight and goes dark because of it. That may actually be my favorite ending of the lot actually. Edit: And now that I've watched the best ending, I definitely prefer mine. Maria suddenly falling in love with Alucard is stupid lol.
Personally, i would want the same engine, same castle, enemy, items , etc. Just a graphic overhaul. You take a 2d game like Child of Light, Dust An Elysian Tail , Ori .
Am I the only one think every voice actor in this game seems not feel the emotion of their characters but Dracula? I feel like they just reading a book lol. Only Dracula voice seems 'alive' but still not exegerrate much.
i always loved Dracula voice..his first speech is simply iconic. Alucad seems a guy who's recovering from a cold trying to put as many enphasis as he can but just too tired to have a good performance :D
completely appropriate imo shows atonement/study "what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, in Exchange for his own soul?" he didn't just quote the Bible he quoted Jesus Christ directly
It was better that way. The ending of 'corrupted' playable character get more improvement like the Twin Sister on Portraits Of Ruins, and also how Soma turned into bad on Dawn Of Sorrow.
There is a room, in the chapel, that is full of spikes, you will need the spike breaker armor and go in it, use the mist in a wall, and then get to a chamber where you will meet maria. I did manage, only once, to make it without the spike breaker armor thanks to a bug, using, if i remember correctly: sword familiar + Bat + mist, turing right (so alucard could go to the left side), and i did manage to get out, with almost no hp
If you really want to play castlevania SOTN, try to get to the secret places There are 4 on the map: entrance, Outside chappel Outside belltower (on the brridges) and if i remember right, an area close to the place where you get the wolf transformation. To access them you need to use Sword Brother's (sword familiar magic) and quickly transform into a bat.
Lament of Innocence tells that Mathias lost his wife Elizabeth and that's why he wanted to become a vampire later known as Dracula who fell in love with Lisa, Alucard's mother who was killed before the events of Dracula's Curse in 1470's.

Man I have a simple question. Is that even possible to get all the other endings of the game by your self? without guides? There are things like gold and silver rings that you wont ever know what to do without guides.
Well in the ability menu (from collecting all those orbs) there are some lefr with question marks if you dont go to inverted castle.... But, i did the same mistake 😅 then my friend showed me a guidebook Oh my, i'm glad i had my doubt
tbh i played it for the first time right now and that part was pretty obvious to me, cause it's written in the item description. The only time i looked at a walktrough was the 1 minute waiting in the clock room. I would've figured it out later i think, but more accidentely.
There are a lot of things in SOTN that absolutely need a guide (or sheer luck, or an absurd amount of trial and error) to be figured out, but I don't think the rings thing is one of them, since it's written in their description. Perhaps getting to 106% without a guide would be a big challenge tho (I used guides and still couldn't bother to reach this %)
I'd say that as long as you explore everywhere you can, and don't leave any obvious stones unturned, you can probably find and defeat Dracula without needing a guide. Some of the hidden rooms are pretty tricky to find, though
He did fight Dracula in Dracula X or Rondo of Blood, but he was poisoned by Shaft the Necromancer, and went insane during that. Then 4 years later, he left his wife and his younger cousin Maria, and went into the Castle of Count Dracula
i found that extra playable character accidentally by creating new game named Richter and i brag about it for a week among cousins. what a memory

i envy you because you have a lot of things to discover, a whole game to play ^^
The upside down castle was so cool when you unlocked it
I've always thought it's funny how whether Maria goes with Alucard or not is dependent on how much of the map you've filled in of all things lol.
Richter: "Don't you want to go after him, Maria?"
Maria: "...No, it's best this way."
R: "I see... hey, what's this lying on the ground? Oh-it's Alucard's map! Looks like he filled in the whole thing, nice!"
M: "..."
R: "Maria?"
M: "...Cartography is SO HOT!!!" (starts running after Alucard)
The music at the end tho!? 😂😂😂😭
Ok so I had all these endings (different play throughs obviously) aaaaaaand I cried on all of them .-.
Katy Le Bagel Queen only liking you're comment cuz you're profile pic
eba56 well. Idk if that’s a compliment or not ._ .
eba56 and you’re*
Am I the only one who actually likes the song?
I like it too. It's ok the OST .... I think
welon17
Yes you are
No you're not, I personally think this song pertains to Alucard and his emotional journey.
I liked it back then but now its just so bad its goos
Nope, I love it. I used to sing it a lot as a child.
Why do I have a feeling that the Dracula of softn isn't the same as the others in Castlevania perhaps they are different Lord's that makes sense why there's a new Lord Everytime
dracula is an hero , he do all the bad thing only for a revenge for what they did to his wife
@@abdo29953 actually he was at war with humans since before his wife
It's the same Dracula, he just comes back in a new body every ~100 years.
Very nice. thank you
knew richter being bad in ending was fishy
Dang I still gotta explore a bit more...but the rest of thecastle is guarded by that huge demon in the inverted castles "top" most part...>,;,
Just finished the game for the first time today. I also can’t beat that demon lol
0:25 My first ending in this game, It's always be my fav. 4ever!
Eae man
@@thy5709 eae
Me too, although it is a sad ending but i always thought it’s the best one and has the best dialogue
“Farewell land of my birth, never again will these eyes gaze upon your beauty”
So is Maria in love with Alucard?
Albert Chyn it would seem so
Possibly though I have heard that she merely acted as a friend and companion, acclimating him back into the world. Though it's entirely possible that the two were lovers.
I think they ended up living together so yeah they're lovers.
They released a drama cd about Maria`s and Alucard`s life after the game and it is more than heavily implied that they like each other and become a couple afterwards
Richter should have went also since Alucard is a bisexual, according to the Netflix's show.
I think the ending when you kill Dracula and alucard go on his way alone is the best alucard is a lonewolf he doesn't need a little girl to be on his side
I like the replay ability factor with multiple endings, but I’d rather have the ability to go back to the previous castle to further my percentage completion. Which is the only thing I liked better about Harmony of Dissonance
well, you can actually go back to the first castle at anytime!
There's a Maria ending for the Saturn, IIRC.
I want to wager a bet that kids who played this back then got the worst ending and thought they were done with the game!
Same For Luke Skywalker in the Last jedi 7:50
Legendary
For what profit is it to a man if he gains the world, but loses his own soul?
I don’t think you need Holy Glasses equipped to get the Worst Ending; you only need to have them in your inventory.
And I only ever beat the game last year
2nd bad ending Maria:(this too is fate) but voice actress says (was).
The dialogue and voice acting is pretty lackluster in the original version. The PSP redone voices and script are the better of the bunch. Everyone should check them out.
For nostalgic reasons I prefer the orignal voice acting. Honestly hearing it as a child was epic AS FUCK.
Nah, the original lines and voices were ham-fisted, but they also had a lot more emotion behind them. Compare Dracula's "Farewell, my son!" and you can easily tell the new version was phoning it in.
No. The hammy dialogue of the originals is a better fit for the game because of the time period in the game.
What is a man?
the remake changed the song in the credit and the ending just isn't the same without it.
noo! that song fits perfectly, it's 90ish in the best way you can imagine it :D
I played the Full version of the sega Saturn.was good to play with maria
Just beat the game with the good ending. Gotta give the game credit for having a bad ending I actually like. It's interesting to see a Richter that's feeling worthless without a war to fight and goes dark because of it. That may actually be my favorite ending of the lot actually.
Edit: And now that I've watched the best ending, I definitely prefer mine. Maria suddenly falling in love with Alucard is stupid lol.
I would love a remake of this game
What would you want out of it?
Personally, i would want the same engine, same castle, enemy, items , etc. Just a graphic overhaul. You take a 2d game like Child of Light, Dust An Elysian Tail , Ori .
Oh, and keep the original voice acting or have the option to chose which one you want.
Did they unironically refer to the voice actors as talent?
I had a good ending first time xd
After the rest of the soundtrack is so good the credits theme is so bad. It still baffles me.
@@VED Konami and actor done very well the Dracula. I think its funny when Dracula said some part of Bible and Alucard being speechless about that. 😂
@@denxrstudio "ah... irony; what good is it to gain the whole world to lose your own soul"
So Alucard and Maria, hu? I ship it
wow i had the best ending then
I only had 195% complete on my clear save and i still got the best ending... *Shrugs*
The dialogues' grammar were terrible, but quite deep. Although the PSP version corrected the grammar, it's quite empty
It's Akward that Dracula recite a Bible verse.
completely appropriate imo shows atonement/study
"what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, in Exchange for his own soul?"
he didn't just quote the Bible he quoted Jesus Christ directly
Lol dracula is real while the bible isn't.
@@AlithAnardid you get a concussion before making this comment
@@william_.575 Nope but you did :)
@@AlithAnaryou just said "dracula is real" you 100% hit your head on a wall before typing this
Some says that is another ending where alucard kill both of maria and richter is that true ?
audio files of a fifth ending is in the game, but there's no way you can make it happen since it was cut by developers
YANNI TAKE ME AWWWWAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY
Thank goodness you don't have to get 200.6% for the best ending.
Unfortunatly you need to get 200.6% to get one of the achevements
Didn't know about Richter. Didn't watch the ending. Gotta beat the game again :)
Although Alucard is a way cooler hero imho
Richter's ending is about as terrible as sonic 3d blast
I don't get why this game made the final fight with Drac not accessible in Richter mode
that last battle was a family affair..
It was better that way. The ending of 'corrupted' playable character get more improvement like the Twin Sister on Portraits Of Ruins, and also how Soma turned into bad on Dawn Of Sorrow.
How do I get holy glasses?
Maria gives them in chapel (you have to equip spike breaker armor first to reach the room where she is)
There is a room, in the chapel, that is full of spikes, you will need the spike breaker armor and go in it, use the mist in a wall, and then get to a chamber where you will meet maria.
I did manage, only once, to make it without the spike breaker armor thanks to a bug, using, if i remember correctly: sword familiar + Bat + mist, turing right (so alucard could go to the left side), and i did manage to get out, with almost no hp
Thanks now I got the best ending and beat galamoth (the long way ;( )
If you really want to play castlevania SOTN, try to get to the secret places
There are 4 on the map: entrance, Outside chappel
Outside belltower (on the brridges) and if i remember right, an area close to the place where you get the wolf transformation.
To access them you need to use Sword Brother's (sword familiar magic) and quickly transform into a bat.
there was a 6th ending but it was removed from the game
i remember that some of its remains can be found digging in the cd audio files..
That fluke is fucking ridiculous lmao
One question: Alucard mother is the murdered wife from Walter in Lament of Inoccence?
Rafael Leonardo De Lima no. That was his first love. Wayyyyyy before Alucard was born
Lament of Innocence tells that Mathias lost his wife Elizabeth and that's why he wanted to become a vampire later known as Dracula who fell in love with Lisa, Alucard's mother who was killed before the events of Dracula's Curse in 1470's.
Thats right, thanks
@@rafaelleonardodelima3786 No problem! Gamerthumbtv has a timeline series about the original games and Lord of of Shadow-trilogy. He just made a new one about the originals including every possible game, port and version, really entertaining especially if you're a fan.
Welp just beat the game with the worse ending.....first time I've ever beaten SOTN 😑 gotta figure out how to beat the game with the true ending
Man I have a simple question. Is that even possible to get all the other endings of the game by your self? without guides? There are things like gold and silver rings that you wont ever know what to do without guides.
You surely would suspect there's more, but not so more :D
Well in the ability menu (from collecting all those orbs) there are some lefr with question marks if you dont go to inverted castle....
But, i did the same mistake 😅 then my friend showed me a guidebook
Oh my, i'm glad i had my doubt
tbh i played it for the first time right now and that part was pretty obvious to me, cause it's written in the item description.
You're missing an ending. 1 ending is when it occurs without achieving the Holy Glasses.
What about the ending where maria is controlled
Maria only playable in Saturn version
wait 5 i thought 4.
kill richter.
kill shaft low percent
kill shaft almost done map
kill shaft 200% map
Actually the 5th ending is the Richer one ;)
man, final battle dracula sounds like a really bad stand up comic that needs to cut his skit short because he needs to take a dump
Well beating Richter is enouph for me.. haha
many peoples back in the days just thought Richter was enough..to beat the game :D
I thought there was only two endings
and now you know the truth :D
Wait so Richter never got to fight Dracula in the end 😕
He did fight Dracula in Dracula X or Rondo of Blood, but he was poisoned by Shaft the Necromancer, and went insane during that. Then 4 years later, he left his wife and his younger cousin Maria, and went into the Castle of Count Dracula
@@KaosNova2 Ah, thank you clearing that up.
If you play as Richter or Maria in this game, all bosses with cutscene is not avaible, except Shaft.
