I saw Rory back in 73 I think. He opend for Deep Purple during the Machine Head tour. He absolutely brought the house down. As a matter of fact after Deep Purple finished their encores the entire audience were screaming for Rory to come back on. Sure enough he did and prceeded to blow his opengl performance away!!! One the absolutely purest blues/rock guitarists that ever picked up a guitar!!
I am so grateful that UA-cam exists so that a whole new generation of people can discover the greatness of Rory Gallagher...man he was like a comet streaking through the universe...a six string angel screaming down from dimensions that like him, are timeless...
I’m 22 and I found him by accident after listening to the doors on Spotify and I was just mind blown by his songs. I never realised how important he was either and his role in music.
He truly was something else. Just absolutely, totally awesome. Played a lot of what may sound like your typical blues based rock of the time, but he always added something of his own. I notice it now more since I began playing guitar myself. Though in comparison to Rory, I'm not really playing guitar. I'm playing with the guitar. Gotta start somewhere though.
@@crazzybiscuitzz7807 and if you listen to his live recordings here on UA-cam you'll quickly realise that he seldomly plays a song the same way twice. It's all in the moment. He had the skill to play just as he wished at that time. A superb guitarist, musician and most importantly a live performer pretty much unequalled.
This man was a raw as a nerve - how criminally overlooked he was/is! Pure rock-n-roll, no polish, no posing, no bullshit. His blues was just as real, just as authentic. Has the chops of a virtuoso player, but has a punk rock spirit. Rory deserves to be better known.
He was approached by the Stones as Brian Jones' replacement, but declined. I'm mostly glad he did, but if he had accepted more people might know him now. Then again it didn't do much for Harvey Mandel, another underrated guitarist who played with them briefly.
Shout out to bassist Gerry McAvoy who accompanied Gallagher throughout his solo career. He had a total rapport with Rory and provided rock solid backing at all times.
It's a mystery to me why Rory Gallagher isn't held in the same esteem as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page & Jeff Beck. He's quicksilver rock n' roll brilliance with a heaping dollop of pure Irish soul. 🦃⚡🎸🤯🦃

Many elite players cite him as a major influence and nobody has anything unkind to say about him... his appreciation of and love for his fans was legendary.

Fucking Incredible. I was LUCKY enough to see Rory one time live. Had front row in front of the stacks. He played for 2 1/2 Hours and the volume perforated my right eardrum. I've seen Motorhead 50x and Never had my eardrums damaged.
Hold on a moment, I'm a real deal Rory &Co. fan and proponent but the one time I seen Motorhead in Cleveland Ohio Dec 1983. I was far away past the back row at the Variety theater and felt the bass bouncing off my chest. They had to pull the plug on them because plaster was falling down from the ceiling. Also played that night were Queensryche and Twisted Sister. 9 years earlier I seen David Bowie but was seated close to the right tower of speakers. My ears rang for many days. My point is how close we are to the tower(s). Imagine being close at Woodstock? RIP Rory!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never heard of this guy before now but happy to have "discovered" him thanks to an interview with Jimi that I just read. Man, this guy left it all on the stage, wish I had seen it live...
I was born in the late 50s and grew up surrounded by music. My parents listened to what they liked and my mother was a trained pianist. I started playing a real guitar at 10 but switched to bass at 16 or 17 & still play. I remember hearing his name throughout the 70s but never knew anything about him or his music. At 64 i am just now hearing all this. Kinda lame of me wouldn't you agree ? He was definitely THE one unsung hero. I'm just now learning how important he was and still is to many. Pure unadulterated orgasmic joy!! Hendrix was once asked "what's it like being the best guitarist in the world?" He replied "Ask Rory Gallagher!" True story
I probably hold the record for seeing Rory in concert more times than just about anyone else - maybe 300 shows or probably even more. I also got to know him and he was very, very special. My only regret is that my own kids who were only small at the time never got to see him because they were just too young. I often tell my kids they don't know what they missed - he was really something. When you saw Rory on stage, you just knew that you were in the presence of greatness and frankly, it's very difficult to describe the experience to anyone who never got to see him. He was mesmerising.
I saw Rory Gallagher for the first time at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney 1980, watched his pre show sound check with an audience of 3, ( including the theme from Rawhide ), during the show some guy jumped on stage in the middle of Shadow Play and Rory blocked security from getting hold of him , ( while playing ), he let the guy sing the song and gave him a hug, after that show I bought tickets for the second performance the following week. They remain the two best shows I ever saw.
K Mac I also was privileged to see those gigs as a young man. Absolutely blew your head off. Energy level like I have never ever seen. Crowd was totally engaged and into it from the first note to the last. Brilliant.
Adam Weitzmann you posted this a year ago and I just happened upon this video of the late great Rory Gallagher a few minutes ago. I wanted to tell you that I know what you are saying, the first time I heard Rory I was hooked but the first time I saw him live in 1975 I was in awe of this guitar slinger and his passion for being on the stage in front of an audience and you are correct it is hard to describe to someone who has not experienced it themself.
In about 1974 I saw him at the Lyric Theater in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. It was a small movie theater that was used for concerts sometimes.Oh my gosh I couldn't wait to see him. About 2 hours before the concert my friends picked me up from the dentist where I had been knocked out for dental surgery. I was told to go home to sleep but there was NO WAY I was going to miss seeing Rory! I lasted about ten minutes and then slept through the whole concert. I slept through RORY GALLAGHER!!!! I try not to think about it

I only just discovered this man's music. Oh my God! I'm upset. An interview with Alex Lifeson brought me here. How can I go for nearly fifty years on this planet and not hear of Rory Gallagher??? It's like seeing Alex, Angus, Jimmy, Jimmy, Robert, Eric and Jeff all rolled into one guy!
A blue jeans jacket and a Strat! That's the most lasting fashion statement ever. The sounds from those fingers take you up on the sky and glides you over all you can see.
Number 1 Rory. Number 2 Alvin Lee. I'm 74 now but nothing today can replace my memories RIP to both. Thanks. I was at the I.O.W in 1970 '22 years old' Taste were there TYA were top of bill on Sat. night. A night I will always remember. Days of nice people & sadly today not like that any more.

Don't know where you've been but we were rockin with Rory in Detroit back in 70s! Helluva concert!
No fancy outfits or light shows. Just an old, beat up Stratocaster with Rory bringing the house down. R.I.P. Rory!
This version of Shinkicker hasn't been on youtube for a couple of years. I hope it's back to stay for a while.
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOH!!!!! GENIUS!!!
I'm a guitar player and I keep finding these Rory classics where he burns the house down with his trio.
Man can he play
Who could possibly give this video a thumbs down?!
Unbelievable...Nearly 40 years ago and still unmatched...
True heart and soul blues man and genius. Let's go to work!!!
In an era blessed by brilliance, he is my favourite
A blue jeans jacket and a Strat!
That's the most lasting fashion statement ever.
The sounds from those fingers take you up on the sky and glides you over all you can see.
I'm now 80 yrs old. You can have all the rest. I'll take Rory!! Still unequalled.

How did I manage to miss him back in the day ? Wow
You weren’t paying attention.
Genius
Saw him twice at Glasgow Apollo. Two of the most mental nights of my life.
MAXIMUM ROCKIN PASSION, ZERO BULLSHIT. RORY WAS THE MAN
