You always here about Guitar Players that do not get enough recognition, underrated when compared to the big names spoken often. If there ever was an underrated not spoken of enough guitar player it is this cat Rory Gallagher. He is as good as any player I have ever listen to. Rory can only be equaled not exceeded....he is that damn good! It does not hurt that he has one bad ass bass player in Gerry McAvoy laying it down!
The first time I saw him was in 1972 at a three-day rock festival called Bull Island. Nobody knew who he was, but after he played, there were a few hundred thousand people who would never forget him, including me. I saw him around ten more times after that.
A true musician just wants to perform. It should never be about the money, ive played with my band for 10 years now. You can't beat the chemistry of like minded enthusiastics
After hearing Rory Gallagher I wondered why he wasn't on the rock radio stations I grew up listening to it's the same way with a band from back in the day called Budgie if you haven't heard them check them out also.
I wish I could erase Rory from my memory, just to have the chance to discover his music again. It was a freezing snowy morning when I first listened to Moonchild on the radio. I had skipped my Calculus class and I was having a coffee. The owner of the coffee shop told me the name. "Oh, him? He is Rory..." I went straight to a music shop and bought "Stagestruck" because it had Moonchild on it. I'll never forget tht day in my life.
I can't even count the number of afternoons my buddy Jerry and I used to listen to Rory, cranked, in a little house on a island, smoking cigs and drinking beer and getting beer rings and ashes on the big table in the kitchen as the snow came and went outside.
They don't get any better than Rory I wish he was still with us what a loss to music he is a one off super star 100% great and legend hope you are still rocking up there R.I.P. RORY GALLAGHER THE GENIUS SO SADLY MISSED.
Heyja m8 You just revered being almost 60. Well its 11 month on and im about turning 61 in may guess same generation. Now what i need to tell. I was born in Germany came to holland in januari 74. I was pissed back then due to the movement to Holland but than it came on to me .the city was Geleen south of the Netherlands pk..until 86 from 69 they ve had this festival called PINKPOP look it up it still exists and even more. Due to the fact that the fest gotten bigger and bigger they moved on down south about 40kl. From my place. This performance always leaves me speechless. Such passionate playing. Sometimes strumming a distorted powerchord tells more of a story than a _100 notes per second_-solo.
I'm sick of hearing about Rory not ever achieving real fame! Just look on UA-cam, and you will see that the camera was always on when, Rory was around.Every day I see a new video that I never saw before. Oh don't let me forget all The Chanting, rory Rory RORY. No, not too famous, no not at all. I thank everyone that read this far into my Rant. RORY RULES!!!
Randico Enrico Gonzalez Jr. .....nah, some of us have *always* known and loved Rory and “fame” is precisely what he steered clear of. Rory did however, tour Europe constantly and had sold in excess of 30 million albums *before* he passed away and *before* newer and renewed interest. It was the States Rory had hoped to crack but he only enjoyed a “cult” following there despite repeated tours. It’s only in recent years that his popularity has increased there but he refused to “sell out” saying he could “write a hit song but did not WANT to”, Rory was the real deal. As for the camera, yes, Rory was the obvious star, you’ll notice his fellow band members stand back, that’s why - it was Rory’s time to shine.
Best song ever!!! Fantastic music, rythm, melody, words... He was simply the best of all. He had a great individual personality and a special character everyone admired! A real gentleman of rock. Perfect guitarist, song writer, singer. R.I.P. Rory Gallagher...
I saw Rory, twice back in the 70's and both times, he wore his Levi (denim jacket) and removed it later, after it was all wet n' sweaty, both times he played for at least 2-1/2 hours, giving the best show possible, he was awesome...!
How can you possibly not like this. I bet Mettalica wouldn't even have gotten a contract back in those days. They only thrive by a lack of better, it's sad these days.
Montreux Jazz Festival July 5, 1985. One of the best performances I've ever heard. Moonchild is an amazing song, and Rory Gallagher sure knows how to play the guitar. But let's not forget Gerry McAvoy. His bass playing is quite deceptive, sounds simple, but it isn't. He played with Rory for twenty years, and on this recording every note he plays is exactly what should be played. Not too much, not too little. Supertight backing for Rory with Brendan O'Neill on drums.
@J P I don't know if this is Ted on drums or not, but yes he was this good. at least, if not better. He had more style to his playing, more flair, if you will. His snare rolls made the mundane cool. So no, this is probably not Ted McKenna. He's not near as good
I was 13 when I first time I heard his music and now 40 yrs later this still gives me goose bumps head to toe. Thanks Rory for a beautiful legacy. rip.
I was born in 76, grew up with NDW and ABBA, then came to Iron Maiden, Metalica and Priest, and it took me 20 years to recognize what Rory was all about! I love Rory and his music! Lower Saxony

Probably the bset live version of what I believe is Rory's best song. His second solo is worth all the gold and diamonds in the world, it's so fluid, fast, and full of emotion. Reminds me of some of Blackmore's epic live solos. And let's not forget gerry McAvoy's pulsing bass lines - meaty and melodic, the perfect foil for Rory's brilliance. An incredible performance.
What an absolute pleasure it must have been to be in a band with this man,I tear up every time I realize those days are over.He is missed every day :( What a legend!
Boys and girls that’s how a true blue, dyed in the wool master plays blues/rock. Listening to Rory is a fresh breath of musical air. He was truly one of a kind.❤

Couldn't agree more. I can play the Daughter Of The Everglades solo note for note, yet it still sounds like crap when I do it. Rory had that magic touch that is so rare to find...
Played for over 60 years only to find out I don't have it but had a lot of fun trying and still do, however quite true you either have it or don't, Rory was a natural !

I only got to see Rory three or four times live, but in small places, and he always went all out, even in a 300 seater in Huntington Beach, CA. The dude just loved playing guitar and he showed it every second of the nearly three hours he was usually on stage.
16 years ago i was watching this video on youtube as a student.Still here!I will be watching the video till the day i die.Rory RIP.GREECE loves you!!!

Thankfully i seen him in 83 .He never got the worldwide recognition he deserved .
The first time I saw him was in 1972 at a three-day rock festival called Bull Island. Nobody knew who he was, but after he played, there were a few hundred thousand people who would never forget him, including me. I saw him around ten more times after that.
Absolutely
Sadly he loved too much. Greatest irish rock once upon a time
To me, he's the best!
Arguably, the definitive version.
From Greece with love Rory for ever!! Και είμαστε πολλοί βλέπω εδώ μέσα..

Excellent song utterly excellent guitarist SORELY MISSED
RORY GALLAGHER THE MAN THAT REFUSED TO SELL-OUT FOR FAME!!
IN MY MIND THE GREATEST LIVE MUSICIAN TO EVER LIVE!
Not fame, he refused to record commercial music.
brilliant like so many jazz ,blues , rock and punk musicians . At 75 years old ........ yes

Fuck off with the Caps Lock dickhead.
@Keirnon Grainger YEAH I LOVE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT RORY IN CAPS LOCK! THAT MAN PLAYED ON STAGE IN CAPS LOCK 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Gerry McAvoy (bass guy) shows what really means to feel the music. A real musician.
And the drummer!!
Rory what can you say, but drum bass that is a great engine 👍
TOTALLY! Gerry is Amaaaaaaaaaaazing!!!!
Absolutely & pretty sure he invented "man spreading" :)
Indeed, McAvoy means business. Would have made it any band.
I'm 48 years old and right now I just find out Rory Gallagher. Never is too late to fix mistakes. This song is....wow...even better than the record
Should of seen them Live!! Simply Awesome
Celebrating the 75th year of his birth. He was only 47 when he died 😢 Turn it up!
I saw him in Athens at New Filadelfeia Stadium at 1981 at age of 13 i am now 54 and i remember every second of this concert and Rory ❤
I also just found out I'm 52 and play guitar like you said bro it’s never too late, but I wish I found out 45 years ago, man he surely is great!!!!!!
