When there is a discussion about the best player/performers of the day, I always end it with this guy. It only works with people who have some understanding of the instrument. I have an edited video I keep that hightlights his mastery of live tone and performance. There's usually no argument after that. It's especially satisfying when they are hearing Rory for the first time. I'm amazed, to this day, how many people don't know who he is.

Saw him in a UK theatre a year or two before he died. The place holds 2000 people and I reckon there were about 300 people there. I stood right at the front, literally leaning on the stage with both arms resting on it, staring in awe. He was about six feet away from me. Despite the poor turnout (some people don't wouldn't know a brilliant opportunity to see a fantastic musician if it moved next door and shot their dog), he played his f**king socks off! RIP Rory!
To Novak In good. You have "broken my record" for seeing an artist up so close! I went to Wembley Arena to see Bryan Adams, and for some reason, at the FRONT of the audience, there's an extension to the stage, to the right. He played to the "select few" of us. Wow! I think because you were so near to Rory, people could actually come up to you, and touch you, and they would be HEALED!
That opening lick is one of the best of all time .. gives me chills every time. Rory, Hendrix and Stevie just had something very special running thru their veins.

I am now 67 years old and thankfull for this great music in time. Under todays music circumstances i would die while being bored.
Old music is much better but there are some good new artists out there, King Fish is a good example if you like blues.

Früher wenn der Rockpalast kam,war immer irgendwo Party und es wurden tolle Nächte daraus.
Rory's flair on the Strat is just
Gorgeous
Gary Moore was just as professional
Both came from Ireland
God bless them both
As a Irishman,66 years old, I got into Rory at eighteen I was blown than as I am now. Gerry, the best bassist of all time❤
l always dig Gerry McAvoy's bass solos for this tune!
Have to agree. Also miss Rory.
From Denmark and Big Rory fan❤️
@@kimnormann7863 I'm married to a Dane.
Right here 🙌 I've been playing guitar for 45yrs an just stumbled onto him an completely blown away 🤯 jus spectacular execution at all fronts, wish I knew of him much sooner..And they dare say Taylor freaking Swift is thee 8th greatest Guitarist in the World 🥴🤢🤮...RIP LEGEND 🙏

SRV... But I'd have to say Rory is a close 2nd.
This is what live rock is all about, just a bunch of amazingly talented musicians pouring their souls out on stage for you.
WILLIAM RORY GALLAGHER !
Addicted to this video, Rory was such a brilliant player but the whole trio is spectacular. A truly great performance
The "Live in Montreux" vid is even better!
@@bart-d3208 Montreaux doesn't have any of the material off of "Top Priority" though like this or "Philby"
I camt stop lisyenjng to this band, I'm only 38 but wish I was born in this era ❤
You missed out. Rory was to found strolling the streets of Cork...
Perhaps the greatest guitar player the world has ever seen.
Love from Greece!!!
Wow! I think because you were so near to Rory, people could actually come up to you, and touch you, and they would be HEALED!
he was such a great player best of the best
That opening lick is one of the best of all time ..
gives me chills every time. Rory, Hendrix and Stevie just had something very special running thru their veins.
First time listening. The feel is there 😋
So true!❤
Rory was doing things no one had done since Duane Allman started to change everyone's idea of tone. Truly one of the most unique guitar players ever to play, no idea why no one talks about him these days in the guitar community..
One of the greatest riffs ever recorded .
It's pretty similar to the Lynyrd Skynyrd Ballad hahs
How lucky was my generation to be brought up with such fantastic bands and that guitar sound was unbelievable.
I believe artists like Rory Gallagher
Will produce artists like Rory Gallagher as long as they have talent like Rory Gallagher
Good night
Nice Neil, in total agreement👍👍👍👌👌👌😊

You will always be remembered as a legend.
Wow!! I'm 59 years old just run across the post on Facebook about Rory never heard of him but I can tell you one thing, I understand why Jimi Hendrix said what he said!! This man and his band are absolutely amazing, I can't get enough of this!!
What did Jimi say?
He was the last Great Guitar Hero…Last of the Independents. So glad I got to see him a few times.
Thoughts on SRV?
Im more amazed by the bassist. He sounds like a machine 😱 what a tasty player
