We certainly can observe the apparent motion of the sun in the sky from different points on the earth's surface and by applying very simple geometry we can definitely say that it is impossible to be flat, or else the sun would have to be in multiple positions at the same time. By observing the sun spots we can also say with 100% certainty that we are observing the same sun, ruling out the existence of multiple suns.

There once was a time when humans just didn't know any better, and it wasn't important for their everyday life back then, so they just didn't think about it. I'd say it was tenable back then. However with advancements in mathematics, technology and measuring devices, the true shape of the planet we live on has become clear.
@nicholashpitts Assume radius? No need to assume. Take 3 simultaneous measurements to a very high common viewpoint (the sun) from various latitudes. Flatten or bend the flooring between those 3 points all you like. But only a curved surface will result in those three lines of sight actually converging.

I love the way Will went about this whole thing in general, giving both sides equal weight from the start, and scolding people from both sides when they stepped out of line; and then after the proof in Antarctica he pushes heavily back against the flat Earth side when they refuse to accept it. Fair play. And I'm sure he would have pushed back heavily against the globe side instead if there was no 24-hour sun. Of course the big difference between both sides is that the globers would have happily have bet their lives on the 24-hour sun, while the flatearthers were already panicking and changing their narratives before the trip even happened.

Flat Earth was never tenable. The Sun sets. I admit "The Sun sets" seems too simplistic. You have to have gained the necessary background knowledge to realise that the Sun setting is incompatible with other observations on a flat Earth.
@gilmarjr5039 Seeing the light go down, disappear, and popup at the opposite side tells you something important about your floor. Knowing what other people see at the same time can tell you even more. The Sun doesn't stay in one spot unlike the light in the ceiling.

It takes a big man to admit they were wrong and change their mind. Good for you. Just out of curiosity what was it that made you believe in FE to begin with and what was the last straw that pulled you back? Also any advice to give people trying to help people see reality?
The worst part is that I am a math professor. It is very quick for me to look at distances and angles and see if they match the scale of globe Earth, as this is typical high school level material. 3 things worked together to play me. 1. I bought into the idea that the moon landing was staged due to all the misrepresnted bs you have likely encountered yourself. I'm sometimes a little too open-minded. 2.. More casual globers representing stretched photos as authentic scale did not vibe with what I knew to be true mathematically. There are some Ponchatrain images that do this. This had me convinced that most goobers saw fish eye as real. I bought the strawman. 3. Altered video, making the Earth appear flat. One is that Altered Blue Origin video. Another was the Sun being zoomed back in. After later finding the original, it was plain to see that the entire sun was not set, and no such original video exists that shows a setting sun being zoomed back into view. Big oops! I saw relatively quickly just how many different FE religions are in existence, such as some who believe in a transparent moon, some who think the sun and moon are in the clouds vs outside the "firmament". It really blew my mind when I heard them explaining comets as cyclical angels and meteorites as pieces of the firmament break off. Crazy stuff. That was the slap in the face. I naively bought into the propoganda before I saw the full picture... something I have ironically spoken against most of my life. Flat Earth is my biggest blunder, but I can laugh at myself about it in hindsight. It's what happens when you prioritize a gut feeling over objectivity and patience. The truth always shines through for those who value it over their ego. Dunning Kruger is indeed alive and well in this movement. I know follow it just to watch them shape-shift with each new undeniable truth. It's psychology in action and quite entertaining. I can say that their echo chamber algorithm has globers looking like angry manchild trolls as well. Division sells. Either that, or I just attract those people in all forms. Now, I get that brand of behavior from the flatties instead. I was a flattie for a few months, but the red flags started coming through in droves at the end of this span, when I had time to do more digging.

Excellent. I hope going forward, this shows the need to look at all the data for and against any argument. And not just listen to one side. There were astronomers all over the globe, honest people, not paid off by someone, who could verify that the earth is a globe. And that's a small example of experts who know the earth is a globe. But flat earthers would claim these experts lie. They blame NASA, when there are many people who don't work for NASA, or the USA, who can confirm a globe earth. I can confirm a globe earth due to the work I do, there's hard data. Anyway, glad you changed your mind!
Are you suggesting that you can only trust stuff you yourself have personally experienced? That would lead to a very narrow life, would it not? You could not trust doctors, if you get sick. You would not trust anyone else's advice, so you would have to make it up yourself. Anyway, it's totally unreasonable to discount the evidence of 100's of years, and how knows how many astronomers working at 100's or maybe 1000s of observatories.

This whole thing has been so incredibly freeing. Literally any flat earther who didn't change their mind in the face of this CANNOT be convinced by any power accessible by mortals, and so can be safely ignored, at least as far as they don't poison others.
I was very surprised when I discovered how many there are Flat Earthers. About 60 years ago, when I was a child, I wondered what was down under the earth, nothing made any sense no matter how much I thought. I didn't know that the earth was a globe, I didn't live by the sea so I hadn't seen the ships disappearing under the horizon. But luckily for me, I had a wise older brother who told me about the universe and how it worked. And he gave me a little telescope so I could see it for myself and I remember seeing the phases of Venus, so it was clear that also Venus was a planet. So I became a glober already as a little boy.

@ yes our Solar System was a disk of dust and gas in orbit around the proto-Sun. But not the planets. An accretion disk is composed of gas, dust, planetesimals, asteroids, and other elements but it is NOT a “Flat Earth” there is is a huge difference between what is known as Earth and an accretion disk. All you need to not fall for flat earth is to not be willfully ignorant, that’s it. You don’t have to be good at math or spatial awareness or smart in general. Two of my brothers have gone down the flat earth rabitt hole for years, they both have a lot of kids and homeshool, so I've been worried about them teaching their kids bad science. Rather then waste time debating them, I've just been sending them TFE videos and Dave McKeegan's videos to debunk what ever new wrench they try to throw in the gears of the globe model. Thank you guys for your work. We need many independent voices doing good science to keep the public informed so we can stop wasting time debating things that were proven centuries ago.

There is so much flat earth cope in this comment thread, adults who never learned to admit when they were wrong and desperately try to convince themselves that any evidence which contradicts their beliefs MUST be fake.

It would’ve been a good idea to find the exact center of the south pole and then recorded it that no matter which direction you walk a compass keeps pointing north and then you go to the opposite way and it points north that would’ve been a great experiment
This only works at the magnetic south pole and not the actual south pole although the cool thing about the south pole is that the sun should almost perfectly move right to left without deviations.
It’s a heck of a lot bigger ask to go all the way to the poles. Far more work, cost and danger. There is a reason few people have been there and many early attempts led to deaths!
This was a real public service you did for the world. It’s sad that people become so cynical about the world, in large part due to being uneducated and scared/powerless, that they can believe that many people are so powerful and demonic as to consciously lie an entire false physics and metaphysics into being. I researched the topic of a flat Earth for a certain period. I was never 100% convinced because there were always conflicting facts, and eventually, I found an experiment that proved to me that the Earth cannot be flat. Additionally, today I saw this experiment, which is indeed very significant and also completely proves that we live on a globe. Those who seek the truth will find it; those who seek to be right regardless of reality will always keep looking for excuses.
What you should do next is start a class action suit against these conmen and grifters to make them pay all the money back and get their channels shut down.

I have been fascinated by this topic for a while because I couldn't understand why people could possibly believe, especially in this day and age, that the Earth is flat. Particularly as people had worked out that the Earth is a globe millennia ago. And I absolutely concur that people need to stop this useless debate (on both sides) and just move on to more important concerns. However, I discovered that the two main reasons why people persist in believing the Earth is flat stem from their faith and/or from their refusal to believe anything told or shown to them unless they witness it with their own eyes. Given that I feel that there will still be doubters. Also people love a good conspiracy theory. The fact that those same people have very little faith in the government and yet can still believe that all governments in the world have united in this 'global' (hehe) conspiracy is truly baffling. But if this experiment has changed even some people's minds when nothing else did then I applaud you. And if it stops parents from teaching their kids that the earth is flat and not to accept empirical research and replicable science then I congratulate you even more. You have truly done mankind a service. But I mainly applaud you for the manner in which you have conducted yourself and the patience you have had with both communities. I am often put off by the snark, insults and condescension of the people criticising flat earthers on You Tube, even though I agree with their points. It's just not the right way to debate someone if you are insulting them. I actually discovered TFE tonight though from a video posted a few months ago by Prof Dave Explains and he is one of the You Tubers that I think takes too sarcastic a tone. However it lead me to this experiment and I am so glad that you were on the up and up, consistent in your rhetoric about the reasons for your experiment, and respectful towards all parties. We certainly can observe the apparent motion of the sun in the sky from different points on the earth's surface and by applying very simple geometry we can definitely say that it is impossible to be flat, or else the sun would have to be in multiple positions at the same time. By observing the sun spots we can also say with 100% certainty that we are observing the same sun, ruling out the existence of multiple suns.

Flatten or bend the flooring between those 3 points all you like. But only a curved surface will result in those three lines of sight actually converging.

A Flat Earther on X told me he now sees a significant flaw in the Flat Earth model. So, TFE has made an impact. However, I believe Flat Earthers who are beginning to doubt their model need time to come forward-it’s never easy to admit being wrong.

I love the way Will went about this whole thing in general, giving both sides equal weight from the start, and scolding people from both sides when they stepped out of line; and then after the proof in Antarctica he pushes heavily back against the flat Earth side when they refuse to accept it.

@gilmarjr5039 Seeing the light go down, disappear, and popup at the opposite side tells you something important about your floor. Knowing what other people see at the same time can tell you even more. The Sun doesn't stay in one spot unlike the light in the ceiling.

The worst part is that I am a math professor. It is very quick for me to look at distances and angles and see if they match the scale of globe Earth, as this is typical high school level material. 3 things worked together to play me.
1. I bought into the idea that the moon landing was staged due to all the misrepresnted bs you have likely encountered yourself. I'm sometimes a little too open-minded.
2.. More casual globers representing stretched photos as authentic scale did not vibe with what I knew to be true mathematically. There are some Ponchatrain images that do this. This had me convinced that most goobers saw fish eye as real. I bought the strawman.
3. Altered video, making the Earth appear flat. One is that Altered Blue Origin video. Another was the Sun being zoomed back in. After later finding the original, it was plain to see that the entire sun was not set, and no such original video exists that shows a setting sun being zoomed back into view. Big oops!
I saw relatively quickly just how many different FE religions are in existence, such as some who believe in a transparent moon, some who think the sun and moon are in the clouds vs outside the "firmament". It really blew my mind when I heard them explaining comets as cyclical angels and meteorites as pieces of the firmament break off. Crazy stuff. That was the slap in the face.
I naively bought into the propoganda before I saw the full picture... something I have ironically spoken against most of my life. Flat Earth is my biggest blunder, but I can laugh at myself about it in hindsight. It's what happens when you prioritize a gut feeling over objectivity and patience. The truth always shines through for those who value it over their ego. Dunning Kruger is indeed alive and well in this movement. I know follow it just to watch them shape-shift with each new undeniable truth. It's psychology in action and quite entertaining.
I can say that their echo chamber algorithm has globers looking like angry manchild trolls as well. Division sells. Either that, or I just attract those people in all forms. Now, I get that brand of behavior from the flatties instead. I was a flattie for a few months, but the red flags started coming through in droves at the end of this span, when I had time to do more digging.

There were astronomers all over the globe, honest people, not paid off by someone, who could verify that the earth is a globe. And that's a small example of experts who know the earth is a globe. But flat earthers would claim these experts lie. They blame NASA, when there are many people who don't work for NASA, or the USA, who can confirm a globe earth. I can confirm a globe earth due to the work I do, there's hard data. Anyway, glad you changed your mind!

I was very surprised when I discovered how many there are Flat Earthers. About 60 years ago, when I was a child, I wondered what was down under the earth, nothing made any sense no matter how much I thought. I didn't know that the earth was a globe, I didn't live by the sea so I hadn't seen the ships disappearing under the horizon. But luckily for me, I had a wise older brother who told me about the universe and how it worked. And he gave me a little telescope so I could see it for myself and I remember seeing the phases of Venus, so it was clear that also Venus was a planet. So I became a glober already as a little boy.

@ yes our Solar System was a disk of dust and gas in orbit around the proto-Sun. But not the planets. An accretion disk is composed of gas, dust, planetesimals, asteroids, and other elements but it is NOT a “Flat Earth” there is is a huge difference between what is known as Earth and an accretion disk. All you need to not fall for flat earth is to not be willfully ignorant, that’s it. You don’t have to be good at math or spatial awareness or smart in general. You just need to be not willfully ignorant. Because there’s so much evidence available on the internet, and so much that people can do themselves.
It’s seriously bizarre how people can stay flat earthers for so long.. for some almost over a decade now.. Whilst being involved with it on a daily basis. It gets more bizarre the more you think about it. Think about how many opportunities they had in all that time, to seek out the real truth. But that’s just it, they don’t want THE Truth. They want their “truth” and will desperately cling to it for the rest of their lives. Which is really sad.

However, flat earth is a religious belief, not based in science. The flat earther puts belief before science and will always find a way to explain why their belief says something different to scientific observation. However, I do applause and respect what you did.

Two of my brothers have gone down the flat earth rabitt hole for years, they both have a lot of kids and homeshool, so I've been worried about them teaching their kids bad science. Rather then waste time debating them, I've just been sending them TFE videos and Dave McKeegan's videos to debunk what ever new wrench they try to throw in the gears of the globe model. Thank you guys for your work. We need many independent voices doing good science to keep the public informed so we can stop wasting time debating things that were proven centuries ago.

There is so much flat earth cope in this comment thread, adults who never learned to admit when they were wrong and desperately try to convince themselves that any evidence which contradicts their beliefs MUST be fake.
Some were convinced to think they know something special and they don’t want to lose that.. others (the ones who do the brainwashing and cult indoctrination) are just grifting and/or trolling.
It would’ve been a good idea to find the exact center of the south pole and then recorded it that no matter which direction you walk a compass keeps pointing north and then you go to the opposite way and it points north that would’ve been a great experiment
This only works at the magnetic south pole and not the actual south pole although the cool thing about the south pole is that the sun should almost perfectly move right to left without deviations.

It’s sad that people become so cynical about the world, in large part due to being uneducated and scared/powerless, that they can believe that many people are so powerful and demonic as to consciously lie an entire false physics and metaphysics into being.

I researched the topic of a flat Earth for a certain period. I was never 100% convinced because there were always conflicting facts, and eventually, I found an experiment that proved to me that the Earth cannot be flat.
Additionally, today I saw this experiment, which is indeed very significant and also completely proves that we live on a globe.
Those who seek the truth will find it; those who seek to be right regardless of reality will always keep looking for excuses.
What you should do next is start a class action suit against these conmen and grifters to make them pay all the money back and get their channels shut down.

I have been fascinated by this topic for a while because I couldn't understand why people could possibly believe, especially in this day and age, that the Earth is flat. Particularly as people had worked out that the Earth is a globe millennia ago. However, I discovered that the two main reasons why people persist in believing the Earth is flat stem from their faith and/or from their refusal to believe anything told or shown to them unless they witness it with their own eyes. Given that I feel that there will still be doubters.
Also people love a good conspiracy theory. The fact that those same people have very little faith in the government and yet can still believe that all governments in the world have united in this 'global' (hehe) conspiracy is truly baffling. But if this experiment has changed even some people's minds when nothing else did then I applaud you. And if it stops parents from teaching their kids that the earth is flat and not to accept empirical research and replicable science then I congratulate you even more. You have truly done mankind a service.
But I mainly applaud you for the manner in which you have conducted yourself and the patience you have had with both communities. I am often put off by the snark, insults and condescension of the people criticising flat earthers on You Tube, even though I agree with their points. It's just not the right way to debate someone if you are insulting them.
I actually discovered TFE tonight though from a video posted a few months ago by Prof Dave Explains and he is one of the You Tubers that I think takes too sarcastic a tone. However it lead me to this experiment and I am so glad that you were on the up and up, consistent in your rhetoric about the reasons for your experiment, and respectful towards all parties.
