After 30 years of being obsessed with these guys, Jonny has finally got to the point where I can't drive listening to some of his grooves because I will be hypnotized and die in a fiery crash
This album is an absolute masterpiece, for those who love beautiful music, it will remain in our hearts and ears for a long time, Smile's music is evolution and not exaltation of themselves
[Verse 1] You're not so tough Your need to be loved You roast in the desert A scorched earth Your mind's come loose The monster's back Towards a mirage No words [Verse 2] You're not so tough A whip, no crack A sudden switch The constant threat That you'll torch the place That plants are snakes With clip on face No words [Chorus] You join the dots and you colour in A road that's paved with good intentions Good intentions With good intentions [Verse 3] You're not so tough And the jaw like force Clings to joyless bones Devoured by ants The slim pickings From click monkeys By their ropes we hang No words [Chorus] You join the dots and you colour in A road that's paved with good intentions [Bridge] No words can ex- No words can ex- No words can express it No words can ex- No words can ex- No words can express it [Outro] And now you wanna bleed me dry Now you wanna bleed me dry No words
Colours fly, I think, the closest song on album to the vibe of These are my twisted words No words is kinda associates with We don’t know what tomorrow brings for me
Oh my gosh this is amazing. The whole album is amazing. Absolute blinder chaps Thank you for bringing your sonic sorcery from your universe to ours. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Non-words are words. If you add the absence of words to the absence of other non-words, it becomes a non-speech. Add non-anger to non-speech, and you get a subversive non-rant. Which is relevant in our non-World.
To me this about someone not communicating or speaking words or new information (water as knowledge, but simply can be just anything to think about) and because of this it leads to other person feeling dry. I now make it a habbit to text people and watch new things to keep mentally hydrated. But there was a dark time in my life. This is the album of the year.
Amazing baseline and great use of delay, beautiful drums but unfortunately (like is a theme on this album) the lyrics are just pretty vague and uninspired. Having played in bands for nearly a decade I’ve heard lyrics like this time and time again in little first jam sessions.
Now consider this: what are the lyrics saying that has implications for the other “Cutouts”. These songs are imo “Cutouts” of the state of the current human condition and each song is some different perspective on the state of things for themselves or the world at whole. Now analyze the song through that subjective lens and understand what it’s trying to say
@@phillemon7664 no I get what it’s trying to say but Thom usually strikes a beautiful balance of both not being so specific he is naming people, but also not being so vague that you don’t know what he’s talking. He’s just being vaguely political on this record, he could be talking about trump, either side of the Palestine conflict, wokeness (I highly doubt that though I don’t think he’s that stupid to participate in right wing culture war stuff). I just think it’s a bit uninspired personally, and this is coming from someone who loved wall of eyes (I did think even on that record the lyrics were showing signs of not being as good but the songs were all great). And a massive (that’s an understatement) Radiohead fan. I’m just not a massive fan of the lyrical content on this record the songs are fine though.
Best song on the album
probable
Well... I wouldn't say so.
@@mariobajardi I would though
That's eyes & mouths
Nah I think bodies laughing is the best

This is a banger. How lucky are we to have gotten 3 albums in 3 years? They're definitely having fun with this, I fucking love it.
I know man, since 94' I've waited to be so lucky
This album is an absolute masterpiece, for those who love beautiful music, it will remain in our hearts and ears for a long time, Smile's music is evolution and not exaltation of themselves

Shit someone should probably tell Thom
😂
We don't tell Thom things, Thom teaches us@@CaveWang
My boys are still rocking!! what a great time to be alive
Jonny is unbelievable, his unique style and compositions and his sense of rhythm and texture is unmatched.
Guitars and drums on this album are absolutely amazing
[Verse 1]
You're not so tough
Your need to be loved
You roast in the desert
A scorched earth
Your mind's come loose
The monster's back
Towards a mirage
No words
[Verse 2]
You're not so tough
A whip, no crack
A sudden switch
The constant threat
That you'll torch the place
That plants are snakes
With clip on face
No words
[Chorus]
You join the dots and you colour in
A road that's paved with good intentions
Good intentions
With good intentions
[Verse 3]
You're not so tough
And the jaw like force
Clings to joyless bones
Devoured by ants
The slim pickings
From click monkeys
By their ropes we hang
No words
[Chorus]
You join the dots and you colour in
A road that's paved with good intentions
[Bridge]
No words can ex-
No words can ex-
No words can express it
No words can ex-
No words can ex-
No words can express it
[Outro]
And now you wanna bleed me dry
Now you wanna bleed me dry
No words
Pretty sure line 2 of verse 3 is "with jaw like a fox"
The riff in this thing is unbelievable
no literally this is maybe my favorite bass riff ive ever heard
@@alisynnYes! It truly is sick.
@@alisynnclearly you haven’t heard the bassline of the song “ slide away” by the verve
@ i have!! love that song too.
Fantastic work. In the year 2024, 2/5 of radiohead is still making better music than anyone else.

The transition between the slip and this is hysterical! Their best song placement to the date!
I can't stop coming back to the two back to back
Reminiscent of The Police. Gorgeous work and wonderful rhythm section here.
Another Banger....wtf... 😀
Ian Curtis of Joy Division is being channelled through this into my head, love the magic of The Smile 🙂

This reminds me of "Jigsaw falling into place"... but actually it's even much better than that. Outrageous track and album.
Uhm, no. Still amazing tho.
Finally, clear pictures of bigfoot!
This will be bigger than the Patterson - Gimlin film.
One of the best bass lines
The first song I really liked in this album now it's my top 4
I don't wanna hear no words. I don't wanna talk it out. I don't wanna dead no beef. I don't wanna sort it out.

Exactly!
if you'll listen Robert Fripp's The League of Gentlemen it will be even closer
Three solid albums, constantly inspiring and creating. Like Gods. Is this entire album and shared saga with Wall of Eyes the strongest Thom York era?

Am I crazy, or do I hear two bass guitars on this? Would be so cool to see Thom and Jonny on dueling basses live.
it's a single bass with delay
Jonny now used his delay magic in bass, and it's so cool

No words can express it unfortunately
Opening sounds like “Right here, Right now.” By Van Halen.
