Tom Skinner is easily one of the best drummers alive right now, without a doubt. I've been playing drums for a little over 21 years now. I've been in multiple bands from hip hop to experimental music, and everytime I listen to Skinner drumming he makes feel like I just picked up my sticks for the very first time. Lol 😆
@@isaiah147 Same feeling here, fellow drummer. IMO, Danny Carey > Jojo Mayer > Mike Portnoy > Dave Weckl > Tom Skinner > a bunch of GOATs who have passed away. Ofc, my list is tainted with tremendous bias as I grew up loving Tool after hearing some of their songs off Lateralus for the first time, while I only discovered Radiohead about a decade ago but only _truly_ “understood them” around the time AMSP came out, which began my obsession over their entire discography (admittedly still having a hard time with much of Pablo Honey…). Always dug Sons of Kemet though, so seeing Tom partner up with the bois was shocking. Shockingly beautiful that is, with what they’ve provided us mere mortals with in just the span of 2 years. So excited for whatever’s next, whenever that time comes.
Am I the only who listens to a The Smile album once and is like "yeah that's familiar and fun." Then on the second listen I am convinced I'm listening to some of the best music ever?
My favourite track (tied with eyes and mouth) on yet another phenomenal album. Wall of Eyes and Confidenza in the first half of the year with Cutouts out today and Thom Yorke playing in my city in November, what an amazing year for music.
@@zacharyyurcisin1923 not to mention Nilufer Yanya and London Grammar releasing an album each and I have my second album on the way for the year ontop of that, such a good year
This album is an absolute masterpiece, for those who love beautiful music, it will remain in our hearts and ears for a long time, Smile's music is evolution and not exaltation of themselves
@@PITBLUE78 In my humble opinion, there are musicians-singers who evolve, and they do it because they have an enormous talent, others who simply remake themselves, and I obviously prefer those who risk doing something that may not please the public, but firmly believing in the search to do new and original things
[Verse 1] You can change your mind Let your colours fly And start lashing out You can change your mind I won't be surprised Let them colours fly Circumstances change Let them colours fly [Bridge 1] [Verse 2] You can change your mind Mother starts to cry [Bridge 2] [Outro] And because we can't escape You're gonna say goodnight You're gonna say goodnight Good night
Thom, Jonny and Skinner have created such a masterful appeal with the smile. Each song on this album reminds me of a small deck of cards, that handsomely piece together the structure of something ineffable yet pervasive and symmetrical. Smile's music broadens its tonal appeal to strike exactly where you want, whether you expected it or not. However, the best part, unanimously, is in the pleasure to hear another sonic journey effused with joy. We are given another album to escape with, is that not beautiful? (Nick, 10/4/24)
This video and song are absolutely amazing! The Smile continues to prove just how versatile and creative Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood are as musicians. Their sound is so unique and I really love the intense vibe of this song. Every time they release something new, it feels like a deep dive into their musical creative power. Thom's vocals and Johnny's masterful instrumentation never cease to amaze. Their entire body of work, both with Radiohead and The Smile, stands as a testament to their genius and unparalleled talent. Never stop making music!!
At this rate, I wonder if The Smile's discography will ever surpass Radiohead's. They're up to three now. I think Radiohead has nine studio albums. Skinner, Yorke and Greenwood are working at a furious pace.
Hearing this song live 2 years before it dropped blows my mind. This song was among the many staples at the Seattle show, December 16th 2022. Happy anniversary to who was there today 2 years ago.
It's really not fair that they keep releasing such excellent music. I didn't buy the first, but had to have the second one. Now that they've done three in a row in quick order, I'll have to go back and really listen again as whole albums, as well as start saving my money and praying they don't tour around here because my poor wallet can't handle all this amazingness. Dope new Godspeed record dropped today too.
@@silverdunes5279 The creativity of Thom, Jonny and Skinner seems to be inexhaustible. They always have something new to show... If there is a tour, you have to be there no matter what it costs. The magic and spontaneity of playing music live is priceless. ❤️🎵🎼🎶🥁🎸🎹🎙❤️
This is the one I was the most excited for, the live versions are incredibly cool and sometimes bands make studio versions of banging songs "soft and quiet" instead. Like with Judge, Jury and Executioner off of Amok. Still a great song, I'm just sayin. But this, THIS was every bit as awesome as I had dared hope and then some. Thank you guys! It's crazy how the creative output just keeps on going even after all these years. Insane. I love it. You make my life better. I love you guys ❤ Have a great weekend!
Everyone is comparing The Smile's work to other artists'...I think this band has some Radiohead influence, but in a sense, this music is uniquely its own genre, unable to be described or compared to others! Yet another amazing album, thank you
This snuck up on me. It's probably my favorite song on this album. Perfect for a drive in the dark, accepting and embracing the darkness of your life. Btw album name "Cutouts"... Do they imply it's side B of the less great songs from Wall of Eyes? Or maybe that's how they started it and realized they're bangers for a whole album. I hope they keep being this productive and never stop

These guys make talking about music with folks difficult. You cant say things like "best band out" or "timeless classic" around most people. Someone will overhear you and bring up sales, or popularity, or "stream counts". They'll talk about billion-dollar concert tours. They seemingly have no idea that the music theyre all moist over will be forgotten about in a few years. Makes me feel like I'm from another damn planet. Maybe The Smile is. Maybe I am👾
I agree so much these guys are definitely going down in the history books they challenge boundaries and evolve unlike most mainstream music which just follows the same worn out bland formula as everyone else even with rock and metal I find myself bored it's all so overdone and boring...these always are fresh and bursting with creativity !!! ^^
It´s like radiohead but with a drummer on ketamine. Something is off, I can´t put my finger on it. I have the feeling with most Smile songs, they are all great but the drums are just not cutting it.
