When Radioheads leftovers are better than most artists one hit wonders
When Radiohead's left overs from OK Computer are better than their songs from KidA going forward.
You honestly think this beats "How To Disappear Completely"?? Or "Morning Bell"? Or fucking...."Wolf At The Door?" (just thinking of 3 random moments of brilliance in an exciting career...although I feel they fell off a bit after "IR", so maybe we're just the same...)

Radiohead did made them a soundtrack for the movie spectre
So, basically this is everything thing in its right place from the front. K, got it🧐
The song spectre by radio head was originally intended to be for the movie but the studio Execs rejected the song for being to dark and went instead for sam Smith you can still listen to it
This is honestly one of the most well-made music videos I’ve ever seen. The whole concept symbolizes something in my view. One of the most obvious points is the drastic difference in tone and cinematography between the “day” and the “night” sequences. From the beginning “night” is established as the anxiety-inducing, paranoid, and lonely atmosphere. This is very masterfully contrasted with the presence of people in the “day” sequence. The man has interactions with the people around him (the woman walking past him, the bike rider dropping a phone). But slowly these two realities start to merge together and the safety margin created by the brightness and normality of the “day” sequence is starting to fade. The man starts acting out “night” actions in the day (looking back for no reason, dodging a nonexistent car). This is exactly the place where you can’t trust any of the realities anymore.
All this was to preface my main point: in tandem with the title of the song “Man of War”, I believe the music video visualizes PTSD and paranoia.
The “day” sequence is real life and the main character has actually interacted with his surroundings. However, his mind, paranoia, and PTSD has caused an alternate “night” timeline, which slowly starts to converge into reality. At the end, he can’t distinguish what is real or fake anymore (the turning point is when he looks at a picture of himself in the phone…i.e. paranoia has kicked in).
The people following him so intently are a part of that fake reality he has created. These people within this world (his mind) try to creep into his life and take control. This is seen initially when we can see a shadow following him in the “day” sequence. Gradually, a whole physical appearance pops up and the people following him increases.
I symbolize these people as the trauma and mental scars that the main characters has to carry. No matter what he does, he can never get rid of them. He is scared of them. Terrified. He tries ignoring them and running from them, but they always remain within a constant distance away from him. At the end, he trips over and…nothing happens. The people, his trauma and guilt is part of him, following him but not there to physically hurt him. He can never get rid of them, except to accept their presence and coexist with them.
At the end, the man is distraught but calmer. He realizes that he can never escape his mind and these presences attached to him, but just maybe he won’t have to run away from them at all.
At 2:09 when the phone was dropped, it had shown a picture of the man sitting on the bench.
It's not paranoia, he was definitely being watched and targeted. As for what, idk.
This is how I feel. All the time.
watch angel by massive attack litterally the same exact thing
still good tho not tryna shite on yuh

😂😂😂
A LITTLE IS ALL IT TAKES. A LITTLE IS ALL IT TAKES
You can't just put dozens of great songs on one album, unless you want to release a double or triple album, but Radiohead doesn't seem like that type of band.
i am certain that there are hundreds of Radiohead songs not on CD. perhaps they can create a box set of C and D sides. Question: can creativity backfire?
@@typhoonproductions4528 a little bit of faith goes a long way. Bruce Dickinson said that and many before him.
“We’ve been trying to contact you about your car’s warranty.’”
That's brilliant
🤣🤣🤣🤣
can you explain?
I think the video could also tell a story about PTSD, and not just anxiety as people are saying. A man of war that has flashbacks of the people he's killed whenever the video switches from day to night. The man can't get over the guilt as they chase him, and eventually he can't tell what is real and what is just another nightmare he's having, so he starts seeing them in real life. At the end, the man stops running and realizes that there's nothing he can do about it, so he comes to terms with it, living with the burden.
I totally agree.
wow....
The way I see is it’s a song about paranoia/schizophrenia, but i like your explanation a lot

It's difficult to explain to people what it's like to wait twenty years for something. Some of you reading haven't even been alive that long. But that's how long us hardcore Radiohead fans have waited for Man Of War. This song has been known to Radiohead fans for all this time. We heard it in live performances we were lucky enough to attend, in rare, scratchy, ethereal bootlegs of live shows we couldn't get to. You can see them developing this song in the studio in the film "Meeting People Is Easy." And with every release since OK Computer, all of us have been hoping we'd finally hear a studio version of this song. Well, we have it now, and they absolutely did not disappoint. This was worth waiting twenty years for. And that this song smokes everything else being put out by other artists today? That's just a teensy cherry in an avalanche of cherries on a very big and delicious cake.
Nice profile picture
Cheers! Forever a fan of the Wasteland. And Star Wars. And Saturday Night Live :D

정말 어디든 계시네요
@Hunter Vonnegut shut up bro
I just realized that "The worms will come for you, Big Boots" is a reference to Hamlet, who basically says that everyone (including the rich and powerful) ends up in the same place, and being eaten by the same worms.
perhaps this is where the line that is similar in the wall came from??..
I don't think this is a reference to Hamlet but is instead simply a common theme and concept.
Good reference, this song is about soldiers being haunted by war
I think of it as more of a reference to Pink Floyd’s The Wall
Cant wait.
A friend of mine recently committed suicide and in his final social media post he included a link to this song. He was using it as a symbol of strength. But unfortunately he has now taken his life. I do hope that this song can continue to inspire others and serve as a message of hope and strength. Especially in these tough times. Rest in peace, my friend.
Part of my fucking soul is gone man. Campbell saw me at my worst on several occasions, never judged me once. I tried my best to help him at the end, but it was fucking Campbell man, nobody was going to tell him what to do.

Feelings can feel insurmountable . Regret especially can make it hard to live with oneself on a daily basis .... RIP
:(
RIP although he took his own life he still probably helped many people with what he did. Absolute hero
The video is basically showing the comparison between how you look on the outside, and how you feel on the inside, day and night. During the day, on the outside, he seems like a pretty nice guy, on the inside, he’s scared, running from something, he’s a fighter, and eventually, his night and day become one. The man of war pertains to the fact that he has a war of personas, and how his outside persona clashes with his feelings.
i interpreted it the same exact way
I interpret it as a war vet trying to escape his ptsd
This looks like a better interpretation, since its not only correct to the literal message of a war vet.
This song actually tell us, that every men mostly have 2 dimension of World on their life. One is real and one is kinda feel real, and We haunted with the 'kinda feel real' ones every time. Most of them call this sickness as Depression.

Absolutely brilliant! This should get an Academy Award for Best Short Film.
A small, but brilliant inclusion: When the lead picks up the phone dropped by the bicyclist and later checks it, he sees a picture of himself on the bench reading the paper. It adds to the paranoia, confusion, fear and impending Doom of the anxiety and of the facade of normalcy he tries to put up during the daylight shots. Sheer genius is this video!
@Hunter Vonnegut no
And the phone probably didn't show anything
@@douwehuysmans5959 I played at .25 speed and went frame by frame and found that the "day" phone showed a picture of what could presumably be the lady who dropped the phone in the first place, and in the "night" shots showed no picture at all until the shot where he drops the phone.
Haunting, dark, melancholic yet absolutely beautiful that's Radiohead for you.
Radiohead is killin it with all these music videos
John Brubaker just... don't.
Mixtape Troy wait. why did you saay beatles?

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't after you
I like how in the music video the main guy's paranoia follows him into the day, too. First, it's just the night, the darkness, then it just becomes constant fear and paranoia. Just like the real thing. Well done.
To me it is all reality. I'm an attractive petite woman who looks approachable. When I walk down the streets of my city 😢 approach me in many different ways. It ranges from giving me roses, asking to take a selfie with me (I'm recognized for the unusual volunteer work I do), or they want to flirt. Some turn into stalkers that threaten and assault me. I've become afraid to walk on roads. The last stalker actually followed me to the Police Dept, but took off while the police were helping someone else.
THIS song didn't make the album? LOL some other band would put this out as the first single! Amazing song.
Cinema Garmonbozia You could say the same thing about a lot of their b-sides! Some of their 'throwaway' songs are better than many popular bands' best efforts!
Yeah, it's like how Kendrick Lamar's untitled unmastered was still one of the better rap albums of the year.
they could've easily replaced fitter happier with man of war and the album would be 200% better
Sahand Edrisian what's wrong with fitter happier?
I'm glad they didn't. Fitter Happier is iconic and helps cement OK Computer as the best album of the 1990's (or of all time, if you're like me and think OK Computer is the single greatest album ever recorded).
Mental. Radiohead are just on a completely different level.
The fact that even the bonus tracks on OK Computer are still incredible pieces of music is just a testament to how good Radiohead is
2:25 the way he says "yeah yeah yeah" is so satisfying
I like the idea that the day is how he is on the outside and the night is how he feels on the inside. On the outside he's a confidant and happy looking man who is nice enough to run after someone to give them their phone back. On the inside he's an anxious man who's always worried about what others think and is constantly running from himself. "The worms will come for you, Big Boots."
A reminder that all people have their problems and in the end, no matter how powerful you are, you end up in the ground just the same
but eventually it happens at the day too,u have any idea of that
do you know where this is filmed?
The End Is Near : u mom gay

Hearing this brought me to tears. I love the music Radiohead makes now, and admire how they have evolved...but hearing this song was like running into an old friend you haven't seen in decades. During my final years in college I began to struggle with severe anxiety and panic attacks.
To me, this music video is the perfect representation of how I felt at that time.
The ending as well suggest, at least to me, the same lesson I learned at the end of that period. That is, most of the time you're just running away from yourself; and if you manage to stop, you'll find out that there was nothing really serious to worry about in the first place.
Hope you guys are doing okay, stay safe and strong everybody.

The fact that, somehow, this is the kind of thing that got rejected on OK Computer never ceases to amaze me.
jackbrabham wasnt there something about them pitching a song for James Bond once? I think this might have been that song....
I think that one was Spectre
It would appear you are right... too bad they didn't get it :) and very cool that their sound could potentially carry being a JB title song 18 years ahead in time :O
OmniFilmDK This song was pitched for James Bond but it was around since 1995. They tried pitching it for spectre in 2015 but we're denied because it wasn't made especially for the film and they couldn't nominate the movie for best orignal song if they did. After that radiohead made a whole new song just for the movie called spectre which was also denied because the producers for the movie said it was too sad and dark.
When your 20-year-old rejects are still better than 95% of everybody's else's brand new songs....

@@SoulShines4U Fun fact: This song was originally made as an homage to James Bond themes back in the 90's. A version was recorded for the original Avengers, but abandoned. In 2015, Radiohead were commissioned to make a Bond theme for Spectre and pitched this. The production team liked it, but rejected it when they learned that it wasn't an original song and thus wasn't eligible for an Academy Award for Best Original Composition.

Turd Ferguson They really need to update lots of their unreleased material and hopefully they do it with every anniversary.
Turd Ferguson I even think that these songs are better than any song in A Moon Shaped Pool. 😬
+Chivo boi dont you start moon shaped pool is a masterpiece of emotion, affection, and dissonance, it just takes a few listens to get the feel of the album
*Anything Popular
yeah, I mean, Humanz and New Spirit (PVT)
This band is what convinced me to become a musician no matter what.
To me, one of the best music video ever.
Hi I recommend a new indie album right here on youtube called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
This is definitely old school Radiohead.
I agree, and Luckily my soul can breathe again. For a minute there, they lost myself.
Pik wait, but the ep shut up and dance used another radiohead song. (You are talking about black mirror right?)
Souless Memelord exactly. Thats why im asking what is he talking about
Kid A and i love the old school radiohead
Oh God I can't believe they didn't release this earlier, its a masterpiece.
And the video is hauntingly brilliant.
This is just bloody brilliant, both song and video. Another radiohead masterpiece.
Everything about this is amazing. The music video and the music itself. It's amazing. Definitely one of my favorite music videos of all time
This video must have been a nightmare to shoot trying to get the night and day shots to blend together like that...
A making of would be interesting. I wonder if the green lights on the night scenes are markers?
juste doing the same way the day and the night and some cuts
yeah dude, that's the hard part.
i think they just had the camera on rails, so that it did the exact same route for both night and day and just added a preset that resembles handholding on post
I think that they shot the day scene all at once then the night scene and then spliced together where they needed to. Amazing video none the less, why do so many Radiohead leave so many questions unanswered...
My ears had been blessed again, thanks Radiohead!
I'm not a person that cries easily, almost never. And I have watched this video many many times in the past, but I have just returned to it again and at Some point I just broke in tears like a little baby scared of something idk what is it exactly, I don't know why, this never happend before
One of my favorite radiohead songs ever.
I've been waiting for this ever since Meeting People Is Easy.
Marco Baltazar you are not alone.
Marco Baltazar you. i like ypur comment. i got it. thats why i like it. good.
Imagine being one of the people that created this song, imagine how proud you'd be.
Thom yorke :)
As a song creator it flows out, the proud part comes when u can catch it and recreate it again. It just feels good to sound good
@@marcinzemla6265 yup I was about to say, it feels like a relief to get something creative out, and see that people don't *hate* it. At least that happens to me.
i struggle to imagine being so creative. I wish i had a thimble worth of their musical talent.
Or not proud seeing as it was shelved as a b-side / live for twenty years..
I just realized every cut is in time to the music. Man... It's amazing.
that beginning makes my soul go crazy oh my gosh thank you so much
same ☹️☹️
Best song of the year so far.
The lovers and this isn`t the place from nine inch nails for me, but this is INCREDIBLE, especially for the video.
How did this song go unreleased...
And ok computer was their best album without this song , wow.
Eagerly waiting for the whole OKNOTOK bonus disc to release 😍😍
Jaikrishnan Menon what's on the bonus disk?
Jaikrishnan Menon it doesn't really fit the OK computer dynamic, that's why it wasn't released. This is more like the tracks in the bends, which naturally radiohead were trying to progress from. It's a great song though
The duality of this is amazing!
Both the song and the editing of this video are absolutely brilliant
"When you come home, I'll bake you a cake. Made of all their eyes." Absolutely haunting! Incredible!
i love that line so much
What does it mean
My interpretation is that at home, you get privacy and comfort which is the 'cake', you might not get that same feeling outside because you are almost constantly being watched when in public. So in a sense, the 'eyes' of the public end up becoming the ingredient of the 'cake' that lets you feel relief or relaxed when you arrive home. Eating the same 'eyes' that made you feel uncomfortable when you were outside.
Seems to me like a song about a soldier returning from war and getting PTSD. When you return life gives you a cake (gift) made from all the eyes of the people that died.
crimge ass hampster
1997: man in white shirt chased by mysterious car
2017: man in white shirt chased by millenials

Damn! tha..that observation kind of depressed me right now
Radit Mahindro yang lalu tidak di biarkan berlalu iki jenenge
That's the point
Hey radioheads
This is my favorite song from any group. It is perfect to me.
Radiohead is 'All I Need'.
Agreed!
When you're just trying to maintain social distancing
😂😂😂🤣🤣
Lmaaaoo
i laughed way too hard at this comment lmao
Hahahahahhaha
...but the Karens are onto you.
I utterly love the directing and camera work in this video. So smooth, so nice, so damn good.
Being watching this vid since it's release, and it just gets better and better, what an absolute masterpiece.
BY FAR THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME. ALL TIME.
Dom The Dank no. Chainsmokers are the way better
Lyrics..
Drift all you like
From ocean to ocean
Search the whole world
But drunken confessions
And hijacked affairs
Will just make you more alone
If you come home
I’ll bake you a cake
Made of all their eyes
I wish you could see me
Dressed for the kill
A nasty surprise
You’re my man-o-war
And the worms will come for your
Big boots
So unplug the phones
Stop all the taps
It all comes flooding back
From poisonous cloud
To poisoned dwarf
What a nasty surprise
You’re my man-o-war
And the worms will come for your
Big boots
Yeah the worms will come for you
Big boots
Static you are right
When* you come home
Actual New Lyrics:
Drift all you like from ocean to ocean.
Search the whole world.
But drunken confessions and hijacked affairs will just make you more alone.
When you come home, I'll bake you a cake made of all their eyes.
I wish you could see me, dressed for the kill.
You're my man of war.
You're my man of war.
Yeah the worms will come for you.
Big boots.
So unplug the phones.
Stop all the taps.
It all comes flooding back.
Through poison clouds and poison dwarf.
You're my man of war.
You're my man of war.
Yeah the worms will come for you.
Big boots.
Yeah the worms will come for you.
Big boots. For you.
Big boots.
"Poisoned dwarf" really? REALLY?
LYRICS THAT CAME TO MIND WHEN LISTENING THE INTRO
What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?
The feeling this song gives me is indescribable, its like an enigma, it makes me feel things i didn't know i could feel
One of the best music videos I've ever watched.
This is such a fantastically conceived video. The directing and editing when he’s running over the road is phenomenal, especially when the car suddenly appears and he wheels away into the light. Bloody brilliant.
Incredible song, amazing video. I fucking love you Radiohead.
I just can't get over how accurate the positioning of the man and the camera following him is in both versions (day and night), it's a completely mind boggling attention to detail. I wonder how many takes they had to do to get it so perfect? It's amazing
Agreed! So damn good.
@@martybyrnemusic And the way it fits with the song breakdown in 3:30 is amazing too, it's like absolutely everything was sharply calculated
@@martybyrnemusic Right? It's bonkers.
This cinematography is gorgeous👌🏻
as a cinema buff myself, yeah man this is good
Jake MacDonagh particularly that first cut to night yum
Can anyone tell if this is shot on film or digital? Looks like film to me
Slowly becoming one of my favourite songs
same, its just so catchy. fuckin love radiohead
what a masterpiece of a song
I don't want to live in a world without Radiohead
Me too
It sounds like the perfect hybrid of The Bends and OK Computer, I love it.
because it's from OKcomputer maybe
Filip Znaor agree. Hearing My Iron Lung and Paranoid Android at the early verses
I thought of "My Iron Lung" too as soon as I heard Thom's singing the first couple of words.
with a pinch of amsp
Sounds like something you'd hear on a Radiohead album
This song always makes me cry specially from the middle of the song to the ending
Such a banger song , i would put it on my top 5 of radiohead
