No matter how long Thom chooses to compose and perform songs, let's all just appreciate he wasn't another musical genius that died young or went mad. What a gift for history that this creature has given us roughly 30 years of impossibly beautiful music.
*HEAR! HEAR!* And, he has never gone 'mad'. He has always been on point with the political and environmental climate of the time for every solo album and a few Radiohead albums. Hail to the Theif was a nod to Bush stealing the presidency from Gore and hanging chads. He has stated so in several late night TV interviews.

The glasto version of lotus flower is amazing, just as this is. People will talk about this music in 100 years time and I am glad to be around when it was being made.
I met Thom years and years ago in a pub in Cornwall as a mate of mine was working with a mate of his, who was working with Radiohead at that time. I remember Thom saying that every time he came up with a nice, calm tune, Jonny would then come in and start wanting to add distortion and a mass of noise over top. He wasn't complaining and said it with a smile. It seems conflicting ideas between band members can be used for very positive results while other personalities in other bands let it destroy them
Interesting story, but I think it's an over simplification of the song writing dynamic in the band. Jonny is capable of being quiet and brooding too. I think you could just as easily say that without input form the rest of the band, Radiohead would sound like Thom's solo stuff-- and while the Eraser was godtier, everything else is too one dimensionaly electronic heavy--we get it Thom, you're a fan of electronic music. I just don't want to hear an entire album that sounds of Idioteque over and over.
@@SirPhilMcCrackinVonBeggington It would be an oversimplification if it were my story but it's not. It's something Thom said, presumably, referencing a moment in his life and not his entire career with Radiohead

I keep coming back to this video in gloomy & even dark times. Sometimes when melancholy music finds me in a similarly melancholy mood, instead of compounding the sadness, it provides respite somehow; even hope. Like, this guy’s been there & found a way to exorcize his own demons in a heartbreakingly beautiful way. I love this so much.
I have been listening to Radiohead for a long time and i just discovered this song. This is the version of this song that is the best version. I heard this song on King of limbs but this version is where Thom gave it its soul. That droning sound in the background the bustling of life and then it becomes so loud that it overpowers everything. One of the most tragically beautiful songs I have ever heard.
@@oliverram3243 This version is a piano rendition, not a complete one. Perhaps what sets this version apart is the polyphonic nature of the piano, as opposed to the other version. However, it lacks percussion, bass, and other sounds. The harmony of the melodies is a key component that defines Radiohead's unique sound. If you have a fondness for piano and are particularly drawn to the main melody of the song, along with a clear vocal, then I can understand your preference. This is a subjective matter. But the original song is richer than this played

he's music is so different than what it was 20 years ago, but somehow he connects those past and present dots so well, you listen to his late works and it feels like it's the same. idk what is more impressive, that he's been making his music better and better through time or that he's still the same Thom Yorke we used to love years ago.
I was thinking about this a couple of days ago. There are so many great artists who are alive right now, among whom Thom Yorke is chief. Like, can you imagine living before this music existed? What would effect us the way our favourite songs do, if we lived a few decades before they existed?
Listening to Thom’s voice now...after listening to it thousands and thousands of times over the last 25 years...makes my heart expand- to hear it’s gentle raspiness now and deeper tone. It’s aged like soft leather.❤️
I was listening to the same old same old, albeit my ultra treasured triumvirate of Floyd, early genesis and Bunnymen...then I thought .."I'll give Radiohead another go"...thank the Gods my musical interest has been reborn, and excitedly going to see Thom in Manchester in Midsummer 2020...turns out 2020 vision has so many more meanings than I could have imagined...thank you.
I have returned over and over to this man's work; I heard him at the start at his beginning, and each return I am re-amazed at his gifts and refreshed in hearing him for the first time again. That glorious sense of truth that pierces through this conditioned veil we all live. The creative center that is in us all, but only manifests truly in those that are dedicated to the path. Well done Thom Yorke, well done.

This is such an incredible performance. Since I was a kid I've always been amazed at Thom's vocal range and control. The way he can flip from chest to head is mind blowing
Its like giving a massage to your soul.

Ok. So now you can take one more step and listen the best version: ua-cam.com/video/YFYOkfpBrSY/v-deo.html
@@onurince6189 Nope, this version takes it and I love TKOL.
But the original song is richer than this played
this is so unexpected but man bloom is beautiful this way
ua-cam.com/video/TIyXcjWyDnM/v-deo.html
He has done this before, I love that version more than the original.
He just must love the song. Been a few live iterations over the years. Glad he does I love every variation.
[Verse 1]
Open your mouth wide
A universal sigh
And while the ocean blooms
It's what keeps me alive
So why does this still hurt?
Don't blow your mind with whys
[Verse 2]
I'm moving out of orbit
(Turning in somersaults)
Turning in somersaults
(A giant turtle's eyes)
A giant turtle's eyes
(As jellyfish float by)
Jellyfish float by
[Outro]
It's what keeps me alive
😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱
Thank you for posting the lyrics
I‘ve listened to the Paris version so many times. I love that stripped-down Bloom arrangement
I often feel distressed by the fact that one day, this guy might stop making music.
Well aren't u a ray of sunshine?
Likewise. I dread that day.
Don't worry, this kind of talent will reincarnate. As soon as he'll be gone, a new born will come with same talent.
@@maxencelefebvrehauguel1425 i doubt,Thom is one in a kind
@@maxencelefebvrehauguel1425 I'm still waiting for another Pink Floyd. I lost hope and just enjoy new music as it comes without expectations now.
Thom: An angel came down to enlighten us...
Listening to this song in a pandemic time reminds me that life is more beautiful and precious than one could ever imagine.
2nd Law profile picture?
ahh so you are learning from this
Creepily brilliant it kinda reminds me of the demon at his craft in the insidious movie
Life is beautiful partly because of one's imagining.
the sound is so clear and pure I am amazed by this version. Absolutely breathtaking.
also, I wish this was on spotify
Yes
Paris Blues metric shit tons of reverb is all the rage again
he's music is so different than what it was 20 years ago, but somehow he connects those past and present dots so well, you listen to his late works and it feels like it's the same. idk what is more impressive, that he's been making his music better and better through time or that he's still the same Thom Yorke we used to love years ago.
One of the most talented men to ever walk this earth.
Magnificent. We are so fortunate to have such a talented artist as Thom York to perform during our lifetime.
I was thinking about this a couple of days ago. There are so many great artists who are alive right now, among whom Thom Yorke is chief. Like, can you imagine living before this music existed? What would effect us the way our favourite songs do, if we lived a few decades before they existed?
I come back to this often. Such an incredible performance.
this is what keeps me alive
yining liu Music keeps you alive? That’s it? Why are you even alive then?
@@KaneK1234 go fuck yourself.
Moi aussi, je l écoute tout les matins.
Deckard I think that music is a great reason to be alive. it's certainly a better reason than running around trying to be a dick to people.
Yoan Pantchev awesome come back x love x
Listening to Thom’s voice now...after listening to it thousands and thousands of times over the last 25 years...makes my heart expand- to hear it’s gentle raspiness now and deeper tone. It’s aged like soft leather.❤️
Quite possibly the most beautiful performance I have ever witnessed
Almost brought a tear to my eye
GET BACK IN THERE TEAR
just use the force, master
Same here, general.
This is so simple, minimalistic, and at same time intense and breathtaking.
Just amazing.
Yes I agree, Minimal music is the best and most powerful, always underrated. Difficult to write.
@@ericdavidwallace very difficult to write without making it sound repetitive. It takes skill imo .

I hardly ever see my dad cry. Then I saw him watching this.
Thom, you seem at peace with yourself, that great, keep that way, you are one of the greatests musicians ever
I want this version on Spotify

God yes, exactly!
One of the best songs ever performed and recorded. Inspires to aspire further as a player.
30 seconds into this song and I am already in tears
I watch this every day.
One of my favorite Radiohead songs. Experimental and void yet somehow well composed and filled with heavy emotion.
May be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. Thom has a beautiful soul.
We are destroying this Beautiful Planet

I am in Tears Beautiful, Beautiful
Beautiful.
This is Radiohead's most underated song. It's easily on my top 5.
Totally. Watching it played live in a concert was the best experience of my life
Same, this version at least!
It wasn't released under "Radiohead", but don't sleep on the acoustic version of "Ingenue" ... ua-cam.com/video/EZl6BRY9IYQ/v-deo.html
The entire album is their most underrated ever. TKOL live might be their best work.
I keep coming back to this song. Whenever I have 5 minutes to myself I sit and listen. It restores me back to health. This is something very special. Thank you Thom.
I'm not entirely sure how many times I have returned to this song, because my heart has yurned to hear it again, its been a few times. Most times I'm in tears. This is a truely beautiful sound. You're a bloody gift to humanity Thom. I'm very sorry for the trials life has put you through. I know similar pain.
Just thank you.
Hundreds of listens later, this still deeply moves me.
By far the best iteration of Bloom I’ve heard
This version is always a caress for the soul. Its so beautiful... I love it infinitely. ♡
I'm a heterosexual male, but it turns out that Thom Yorke is the love of my life.
Thomosexual much ?
Sex is confusion.
@Lina Lina what does these images mean even....? What are you trying to convey...? I don't understand emoji's or what ever their called?
@Lina Lina cheering up or lying...?
It does matter to understand truth.
Thom is a great of case of a singer who learned how to adapt his vocal choices as he ages.
That is the best use of a looper I've seen. Not too much to take over the tune. Perfect harmonies and atmosphere. Bliss. Thom cat!
looper? or delay
@@alecthackery4129 Indeed, I never thought of the eternal delay! Great, now the song is just mediocre for me. 😂
I come here everyday.
+1
I always do.
He still has his impeccably beautiful falseto. Truly a voice that conect us with something superior 🙏🏻
Thom's always 20 years (at least), ahead of every one else.
Try fifty, he’s so radically different than anyone else.
Yes
This is honestly so much better than the studio recording.
I just listened to the studio version then...It's just a garbage pile lol. I'm a drummer firstly but all of Radioheads songs are better when stripped back like this version.
@@boozalm3715its fine not to like the drums. No need to put it down.
Theory on the “ocean blooms it’s what keeps me alive”-That is literally true. If the oceans algae didn’t bloom- we wouldn’t have the oxygen and all kinds of other stuff we need. Interesting the inspiration for this song came from watching blue planet. The loops sound like the sun hitting the water. Looking up to the surface- the distorted light. Can’t explain it. Anyways brilliant as usual- I always find myself stumbling to this version of the song. Blows my mind everytime
Great catch. It just shows the lyrical brilliance of Thom.
that's brilliant, kudos to you
It's a painting that makes noise....Edgy and quiet.

From all the great songs, they chose just the right one!
Such a beautiful track.

Mix on this track is bang on, bottom end on the (live) piano just so warm, with just the right punch. Production team should be well pleased.
I have been doing music over 30 years and I listen everything I can find.
2020 and I found this. I never heard it before. This is something I need to look into more.
