why don't these gyms bolt the equipment down, at least the really heavy stuff. that seems like a good way to get taken to court for something that could be easily fixed. I'm pretty sure some bolts and a hammer drill are cheaper than a lawsuit.

That Planet Fitness purple gym is a crazy place where people never get any good workouts, just because they are not "judged". Some idiot decided that judging and correcting are the same meaning words. They only do worse to these people.
I always wonder... why not have those squat racks bolted to the floor? Sure, you would need to own the building to do that or have it the contract that you could do that... but wouldn't that be better than a, potential, lawsuit?
If you are benching without a spotter, no clips on the barbell allows you to bail on the weight, maybe with some damage to the floor. Better the floor than you.
You show so many mishaps where the equipment isn’t fastened to the floor. How do the gyms get insurance. I. The U.S. the ambulance chasers (personal injury lawyers) would be lined up at the doors. A couple of accidents in today’s batch looked really serious. I never saw an accident in our gym due to equipment toppling over, but I saw one incredibly stupid injury and one where a guy had a heart attack or stroke and the gym management ignored the poor guy for half an hour.

I'm sure health and safety states all equipment that has weights and free weight stands are meant to be anchored to the ground even if not injured there's a liable case for that equipment rolling on the guy doing squats
