I was thinking exactly the same, Eddie has the power but the sheer speed of the guy swinging the axe was impressive and made up for the difference in body mass
While I do think the noise in part is the axe cutting through the air. Anouther possibility is the pros hand sliding along the handle of the axe as it goes down. I’m not a professional wood cutter but I was taught when using an axe that you should put one hand below the blade and one on the bottom of the axe letting the hand beneath the blade slide to the bottom during the swing letting gravity do the work. It’s something I noticed Eddie was not doing. He had both hands at the bottom lifting the full weight of the axe bringing it up, and having less control of the axe on the swing itself. It’s probably the reason he got so winded so quickly too but does show his strength being able to lift that axe so many times that way… honestly really shows how important technique is when handling these tools.
It's fascinating how the leverage on the swing arm is used to rotate the axe around it's center of mass at the 17:07 mark and also get it into a better position for raisin with the arms. He goes right out of levering it from the wood into that movement. I also noticed that both the professionals have very very fine tuned breathing techniques. You can hear them breath in in sync with the swings. I bet that even is adding to their core to make it easier to lever. Wonderful showcase of how technique can make all the difference.

It's the respect he shows that really impresses me. No worries about looking bad because he knows going in that he's squaring off against fellow champions.
Eddie's face when the axe cut through the paper like a razor blade was priceless. That thing is scary sharp. Ive seen authentic katanas that cant do that.
I absolutely love this video. This isn't a sport I know much about at all, but it looks like fun. I have pencilled the 17th in and will tune in for certain. I must say Eddie is my favourite sports personality by quite a distance. Always humble, knows how to have a laugh and doesn't take himself too seriously. Keep having fun and recording it, and I guarantee people will keep watching. Much love to the Beast.

Thanks for a few moments of taking our thoughts away from the crappy situation this planet is in 😂 You've gained a new subscriber today. Lots to catch up on I see as well.
It's pretty cool how the second event shows the difference between power and technique! Every time Eddie swings the axe, the log *explodes*, with little splinters flying everywhere, but it doesn't clear that much material. And with how deep it digs in, he has to fight to get it out. But the professionals don't waste any energy, all of it goes into the cut.
This may be the best video I have seen with Eddie. It was full of humor, and real appreciation of a sport that in many places are little known. Eddie, you gave it your best, as you always do, and took it like a champ. Strength without technique will fail most of the time, in any sport. Anyway. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable video.
Wow I was surprised at the last event that strength didn't play into it..good for you, Eddie, for drawing attention to this sport and giving it a go. We still love ya ❤❤
This was fun to watch. I chopped wood growing up and the little snap at the end of each axe swing from the pro brings back memories of my own technique. I used a maul to split, but it's good to get affirmation that the technique is solid.
I love this man very much. I have been following him since 2015 to this day. I enjoy watching Eddie's videos a lot and learn a lot from him. You are a legend and the strongest man in the world. my friend♥️👑
It's because the man is not afraid to show is humane emotional side and is not afraid of making fun of himself. Him an Brian Shaw are both well spoken, when things are serious they are serious but can act like regular human beings. If you could compare them to dogs, Brian would be a Golden Retriever, curing any depression with a hug, while Eddie would be a Boxer, loving but absolutely wacky.
The side by side sawing the log is a good comparison. You can see Eddie only really uses about half the saw whereas the other guy uses the whole length of the blade.
Now this is something I never thought I'd see Eddie try. Timbersports is one of my favorite non-traditional sports to watch as it's so unique and interesting.
I really enjoyed this video, being from the PNW and a active logging community. I love that he got to see how tough we really are and the homage he paid. KEEP IT UP BEAST!
Eddie is just such a good guy. Gives props where its due, not an ounce of quit in that guy either, you can see his competitiveness peek through that witty humor sometimes. He wants to really do well at everything. But having dabbled in this sport can attest to how hard it is. Eddie would be a behemoth in the sport if he got a little practice no doubt.
Kudos for Eddie having a go at woodchopping. That sport has everything to do with experience, technique and stamina. It began in Ulverstone, Tasmania, Australia in 1870 when two axmen had a £25 wager as to who could fell a tree the fastest. The world's first woodchopping championship was held in 1891, at Bell's Parade, Latrobe, Tasmania. The fastest timber sports underhand chop by a male is 12.01 seconds, achieved by Brayden Meyer (Australia) on 17 September 2022 at the Australian Pro Championship 2022 on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
Would love to see this guy have a go in an Australian tree-felling event, where chopping a vertical log while standing on a narrow plank/board set into a notch cut in the trunk about three meters from the ground. It's the most spectacular event of all. "The object of the event in the modern day arena is to climb the tree pole by cutting “board holes” and placing special tree boards in the notches to ascend up the tree in a spiral fashion. Whilst balancing on the top board (3 boards high) the axeman cuts the block half-way through (such as in the Standing Block events) and then descends bringing the same boards back down. The axeman repeats the process up the reverse side of the tree concluding by severing the block in half. The 3 board trees are approx. 4.6m from the ground including the block being cut. The axemen stand on a board at a height of approximately 3.1m above the ground." Description from the PAAWA website.
You seriously claiming that competitive wood cutting started in Australia? Right of the top there are documented cases of it at fairs in Europe that massively predate the arrival of Europeans in Oceania.
Man, Ediie is awesome. He's a big man, and a champion Strongman, but is going around to all KInds of lesser known and niche sports, dealing w All participants w respect, and DEMONSTRATING that strength alone, and specific strength built for one sport, can work Everywhere, Compete often, but technique and experience are essential in Every sport. it's one of the best examples of sportsmanship ive ever sen, and Eddie demonstrates in every moment that he's a driving force of the channel.
This is so fun to watch! I love the humbleness, genuine wholesome fun, and camaraderie on display. You bring a blend of entertainment and learning, combined with just overall good natured competitiveness that is just great to watch. I admit I had the wrong perception about you in the past due to the old feud with the Mountain, but now I see that maybe I was too quick to judge especially considering that was a beef between you two (whether it was real or for the ratings doesn't matter) and you are a stand up guy and natural entertainer, an inspiring force of nature.
So very cool Eddie trying this out and the series of sports exploring. Keep it up Eddie, this is terrific! Also love you showing the world the detauls and these great people. 👍
I've split wood for the better part of twenty years with a maul and sledge and I promise that this shit is so much harder than those pros make it look. Eddie is a great strapping man and he's giving it an honest try. It really is that difficult to do, at the speed those dudes are doing it.
Fair play, that looks easy on the tv but it's clearly not! Big respect to Glen and Jack and good luck in June and November 👍🏻 Eddie's videos are getting better and better 🔥
Eddie combines being the worlds strongest man with being an incredibly charismatic individual who can carry a performance. This video also really demonstrates the different ways the human body works and can be trained. Those lads really put some impressive technique that uses their entire bodies potential power into their challenges - techniques that are a little hard for a bloke like Eddie to copy, given his years of shaping is body for an entirely different technique!

i love watching eddie realise how hard some of these activity's are, as someone who has been using axes since i was a young kid i personally think it never gets easier you just learn to get in the groove and just have fun chopping, your tiredness seems unimportant when you get in that headspace

Every video this fantastic man releases is just a massive "try not to laugh". Absolutely hilarious and very humble at the same time. Top Bloke that's for sure. Big Love from Australia Mate!
It's the respect he shows that really impresses me. No worries about looking bad because he knows going in that he's squaring off against fellow champions.
Genuinely love how blown away you are by their skills. You’re the best kind of sportsman 🥰
I love seeing Eddie try out these new things 😂
@repentandbelieveinJesusChrist9 But the real question is, how much of a throat goblin is Jesus? Is he good at giving head?
Eddie's face when the axe cut through the paper like a razor blade was priceless. That thing is scary sharp. Ive seen authentic katanas that cant do that.
11:42 "What you laughing at" stops laughing "noting" lol legendary
I love Eddie's enthusiasm and respect and shock when he realised how quick these challenges can be done and how much effort is required. Top guy.
“I love trees” hahahhahaha
start a series where you do different kind of niche sports. this one was dope
Martin Licis is doing just that.
Who would have thought that the worlds strongest man would have the worlds biggest sense of humor...lol I've watched a few of these now and I laugh every time. You and Shaw are hilarious too.
Much props to those guys and to Eddie showing humility and appreciation for other sports great guy!!
Just fantastic! Excellent sportsmanship among fellow athletes. Eddie really gave the timber sport pros the due credit they earned!
Loved this Eddie. Love thaat you are willing to try new stuff. I've been watching this sport on TV since I was a teen - about 45 yrs now
it's cool to see eddy experiencing other sports and enjoying them, gotta love blokes like him
I love all the questions Eddie asks, definitely makes for quality content and info about these cool sports
Have you ever used a hand saw? Go get one and cut something..... strength isn't anything compared to technique.
Eddie is a natural comedian , not entirely sure why he's not on proper TV shows already. Hed do wonders hosting a show I reckon.
The Eddie Hall and James Corden Show!
Follow eddie since 80k followers. xD
😂
This guy's so gay for Eddie 😂
@@CJ-ts4jm what the fuck🤣🤣
One of the funniest athletes out there, this dude and Brian Shaw quickly flooding my feeds
Take a big man to admit when he's outmatched. Hats off to you Eddie. Well done gentlemen.
Eddie’s been drinking bud light with that outfit choice 😂🤙🏾🖤
Lol the daisy dukes
bro is triggered by a beer company lmao
@@antnyplays bud light should trigger anyone with a sense of taste
@@antnyplays who’s triggered by a “beer company” ? And did you just assume my gender?
@@AdmiralRustyShackleford dude bud lights a good beer 🍻
Eddie is without a doubt one of my favorite UA-camrs. He is just so much fun!
The side by side sawing the log is a good comparison. You can see Eddie only really uses about half the saw whereas the other guy uses the whole length of the blade.
Like how on every countdown Eddie starts on 1 while other guy starts on GO. 😂
Haha... you picked up on that too :).
Eddie is bigger than life in so many ways. What a character and fun as heck to watch!
Oh lord. Eddie's fashion choices always get me.
I'm very confident that guys were competing at this well before 1870.
To see him work that single buck mostly with his arms without much core/hips/legs involvement is a testament to the brute strength of Eddie... wow.
The more I watch, the more respect I have for Eddie. He is becoming, not just my favorite athlete, but my favorite UA-camr as well.
I always respect how Eddie's never lets ego get in the way. If something is hard or difficult, he says so.
Now, I know for a fact that I would lose any of these competitions, but seeing Eddie realize how much harder this is than it looks, priceless.
So very cool Eddie trying this out and the series of sports exploring. Keep it up Eddie, this is terrific! Also love you showing the world the detauls and these great people. 👍
I like this - he's giving serious props to other sports that don't get a lot of recognition.
Surely these guys started off as tree surgeons?! Unreal skill/strength from them both. Eddie highlighting these less "popular" sports is brilliant 👏 ❤
I got into it in college, we had a club that competed with a bunch of other schools. I became a tree surgeon after
22:15 the side by side of them sawing is awesome. You can really see the difference in technique and form and how much of a role that plays.
Damn Eddie this with Brian and the boys would be brilliant. Great video as per usual.
I've split wood for the better part of twenty years with a maul and sledge and I promise that this shit is so much harder than those pros make it look. Eddie is a great strapping man and he's giving it an honest try. It really is that difficult to do, at the speed those dudes are doing it.
When Eddie sliced that paper you could see the concern in his eyes that he was gonna swing that axe towards his feet
I admire Eddie for diving into other sports aside from strong man competition truly lives up to the name beast 💪🏽
You know it´s gonna be a fun video, when the first thing you see is Eddie in waaaaay to short denim shorts!😂 Please more videos like these.
eddie hall in booty shorts is a thumbnail i will never not click on🤣
I love how Eddie just throws himself at anything and everything with a big ole smile on his face
Gotta appreciate how one of the lads (I think Glen) just hit a PB doing this against Eddie. 18:19
For the Axe bit, you can hear the axe whizzing through the air every time the kid swings it, that's crazy!
Cardio is key in this sport. Not belittling his ability just different body types for different sports. Absolute respect.
Fair play, that looks easy on the tv but it's clearly not! Big respect to Glen and Jack and good luck in June and November 👍🏻
Eddie's videos are getting better and better 🔥
Got to say I'm impressed with Eddie, i bet he's waaay faster than any of us would be without any experience
Yeah that hand saw is extremely hard to not bend and get stuck, and he was pretty accurate with the axe
Nah he’s slow as fuck dude I could’ve done that in 16 seconds easy😂😂
Eddie combines being the worlds strongest man with being an incredibly charismatic individual who can carry a performance.
This video also really demonstrates the different ways the human body works and can be trained. Those lads really put some impressive technique that uses their entire bodies potential power into their challenges - techniques that are a little hard for a bloke like Eddie to copy, given his years of shaping is body for an entirely different technique!
I remember only caring about two shows on ESPN(3) when i was a kid. Strongman, and Timbersports. always curious about the overlap between the two, and would be interested see you doing them! Its like you read my mind!
love how the "little guy" had enough time to make himself a proper tea before eddie was done with the log chop haha. That was great. Eddie is awesome though. love these videos
I love how competitive he is lmao.
The second he sees something done he is like oh let me have a go at it.
Brilliant Eddie. Such a role model and entertainer.. big ❤️
role model why.
Humour. Confidence. Caring family man.
I love you Eddie, you hold the record for Worlds Funniest Strongman!
i love watching eddie realise how hard some of these activity's are, as someone who has been using axes since i was a young kid i personally think it never gets easier you just learn to get in the groove and just have fun chopping, your tiredness seems unimportant when you get in that headspace
Love how Eddie tries so many things & just enjoys himself ! 😂❤
I really want to see way more UA-camrs try timbersports. Such a fun sport as a viewer imo. Always loved it growing up in Canada.
the beast has to be the most humblest guy I have seen in a long time, he is obviously and indisputably enormously strong and still has a top attitude and respect towards others, much respect to you sir
It makes total sense that Eddie isn't good at this. He's a brute and this is a sport that demands finesse above all.
It was wonderful watching him take this challenge. It deserves its place as an official Olympic sport. Timbersportsmen are specialists.
