I completely disagree. He deserved an Oscar for both. Actors in 1993 films (Scent of a Woman) couldn't touch Pacino on their best movie of their entire career. Pacino pulled off the best blind character performance of all time. It doesn't matter if you didn't enjoy the film itself. The 70s had more acting Gods that I or anyone can count - Pacino, Hackman, Nicholson, Hoffman etc. It was kill or be killed back then to earn an Oscar.
@@lonerunner89 Yeah...looking back at my post I'd say you're right....I didn't clearly get my point across. I didn't mean he didn't deserve the Scent of A Woman Oscar....I thought his performance was awesome in that too. When he won in 1993 the big story was "Pacino finally wins his first Oscar"...Remember his funny first line in his acceptance speech? "You broke my streak!"...what I really meant, at least what I think I meant 5 years ago was: he should have won years ago for Dog Day Afternoon and THAT should have been his first win not Scent of A Woman. I miss-posted. It should have read: Pacino should have won his FIRST Oscar for this one and not Scent of A Woman.

to me al pacino is the greatest hollywood actor. i know brando, de nero, daniel day-lewis, tom hanks and all cud do this character in their own style and that wud be a hit roo but i have found that al pacino's body movement and facial gesture during his acting and delivering dialogues is so much better than others that has made his ahead of others in my opinion. everyone has his favourites, i like and regard other actors too, but pacino is so much involved in his character and he invents and adds so much to a character that i cant but say that he is the best of them all.
If he is best why he acts terribly in Devil's Advocate? So much rave reviews about him so I decided to watch that movie, but nothing came out other than disappointment lol
This was filmed one block away from my high school in fall '74; we had to walk two blocks out of our way when production started. The most amazing thing was that the bank was actually built from scratch from an empty store and I think the shop across the street was too, plus they refaced some of the storefronts.
It's an excellent film, no doubt. They play it for 'laughs' but there's a couple of real heartbreaking moments...a picture from a really fine period for Al...I don't think John Cazale starred in a bad film. Immense acting talent. He'd be lauded today, in Al and De Niro's league. But he made his mark.
I concur! John Cazale , never played a bad part. Did you know he was Meryl Streeps BF (maybe husband ?).. I just learned that . I bet they would of stayed together all these years . Just a feeling .RIP John Cazle .EDIT: I Knew It Was You: Rediscovering John Cazale (2009).. I have yet to check it out, anyone ever seen it? Its done by Al Pacino..
When I watch movies like these, I start thinking about how POOR my generation really is without directors like Lumet. Hopefully Mr Lumet's death was enough for some kids to google his name, and discover his works. I had the fortune to find out about him a couple of years ago and his work has really struck a chord. The realism in his movies is a punch in the face to all those art-house dogs out there. This is the real mccoy. No airbrushing, no schmancy visuals. Just raw beauty in unlikely places.
RIP Sidney Lumet. You've certainly earned your rest. This movie is brilliant in every way. The chemistry between Pacino and Cazale is beyond comparison.
I actually like the look of Pacino when he got older, but his acting and performances in this film, Scarface, Glengarry Ross, Serpico were amazing. However, this is my favorite film of Pacino, and the entire movie is so fun to watch, and very tense and exciting.
The reason so many people (personally) find it so great is based on the realism of the performances & the fact that it captured New York's array of personalities. It is an acquired taste for those who were born in or around that time & it's based on an article& developed into a film which shows the desperation & botched plans of every day life in New York even in a robbery. It's colorful, organized ¬ pretentious, it simply tells a story unlike the junk today. But to each his own. Folks relate
"Why didn't he TELL ME he needed MONEY?" Haa his mom is great! I love that the part about Sal wanting to go to Wyoming (a "foreign country") was a total ad-lib... Al wasn't expecting him to say that but it's so great how he just went with it, and they kept it in the movie (according to director's commentary on the dvd)
Well worth the watch, they aired it on Sundance during the "1001 movies to watch before you die" scare way to title it, but they may air it again on Sundance. Check local listings and they have it for 1.99 to watch it right from here, cheaper than Comcast at 2.99 or more. To watch it uninterupted is worth the treat.
I love that scene-stealer Marcia Jean Kurtz (1:42)! One of the several tributes paid by Spike Lee to this move was to give Marcia a small role in "Inside Man".
Great satire/docudrama from director Sid Lumet (Network, 12 Angry Men, Find Me Guilty). Al Pacino rules here. Helped by Charles Durning, Carol Kane and the late John Cazale. A must see.
Right, and they do the same thing today. Also, the fact that this actually happened and the movie Quick Change very much reflects the fact that New Yorkers can turn a tragic situation into it's own entertainment (NOT 9/11) but I mean something where we can all relate, everyone has wanted to rob a bank& so they cheer for the underdog& and they everyday people involved. I agree that this is a personal favorite and the title is fitting. Good Movie!
This movie reminds me of Osborne Gaines, my junior high industrial arts teacher who was tormented by being a woman trapped inside the body of a man. He/she eventually had a sex-change operation and found happiness as Ozma Gaines.
@xianneh Here here! Pacino's intensity mingled with his ethereal exquisite exotic beauty was out of this world! He looked like a LOTR elf, seriously, his pale white skin in contrast to his dark looks & the most beautiful deep set soulful eyes? i've always been attracted to beautiful eyes, & he has them like few other!
But you certainly have a right to dislike what you dislike, we can learn to accept one another's preferences and it's all for good. Many people swear by the movie Mean Streets and it had a top crew of actors, but I didn't like that one either. I only watched Blade Runner yesterday. Couldn't stand to watch it for over 25+ years& yesterday found it fascinating & watchable. Sometimes movies are so hyped that it can turn folks off. I personally do not like hyped films myself until its all died down
In the movie he makes it clear that he worked in a bank before so he had an idea of what the security devices were inside the bank for both the safe and the teller drawers. Maybe it was because he worked in a bank he thought he could pull it off.
I meant the fredo remark as a joke. The kiss in GF2 is symbolismn it means the kiss of death. Godfather came out first, I believe GF2 was also out before this
Also, a great many have a preferance towards anything Al Pacino and he brings a lot to any performance, it would not have worked if it were just anyone else, even of a higher caliber talent. It was just about that era is what folks like&moreso, many are from New York and so they like that it captured a true day in the life of New York particularly during that time. Also two of the actors are from the Godfather& so it adds to the effect of such a reversal of roles. It's also nostalgic.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO fucking way, This was the fucking movie that was haunting me for years on end. I only remembered the car scene at the end and one of the bad guy's names was Sal. AWESOME. d(:
One of his best performances. Brilliant story.
lol there wasn't much story
+Kyle Demoderpifnlikskin
Still a fantastic performance
FunnyVideoMaker77 yeah I can agree on that one
i swear I've watched the movie in 2 n a half minutes
Al performance just out of this world!! One of my most favorite movies. And John was phenomenal man he was an amazing actor.
Excellent writing! Holds up beautifully over 40 years later!! I love the writing and the performances. This is the way films used to be!
One the best performances of all time.....Pacino should have won his Oscar for this one....not Scent of A Woman.
Yes, for this one too :)

My favorite quote "Attica! Attica! ATTICA!!"
ahh, this is one of the best movie ever. Made me love Al Pacino since i watched this
Al Pacino as Sonny is The Best Acting Performance Ever
Anytime Al Pacino and his pal John Cazale were involved in a movie you knew it was gonna be a classic.
I'm not going back to that prison, Sonny.
This movie and SCARFACE are just so damn good. If cinema or movies were always this good...the world would be a better place.
Ethan Hill Did you see " Panic at Needle Park"? that movie was brilliant, you would like that film.
eroupopper I've been advised to see that film. I will now.

Rony Rahman Exactly!
I couldn't agree more!

the good old days when they showed everything in the trailer, so you know what ur paying for:)
That's exactly what I was thinking. Now a trailer can be a 10, but the movie is barely a 2
It's an excellent film, no doubt. Rest in Peace, Mr. Lumet. God Bless You.
One of the great directors of all time.
RIP Sidney Lumet. You've certainly earned your rest. This movie is brilliant in every way. The chemistry between Pacino and Cazale is beyond comparison.
Great movie with great performances..
Al pacino is one of the greatest actors of all time
this movie is about 500 yrs oldr than me, and yet this is my favorite movie
This movie is still to awesome in the year 2016.
why does everyone on the Internet say 'to' instead of 'too'...
I watched this last week and it really is a great film! I kinda felt sorry for Sonny towards the end.
I actually like the look of Pacino when he got older, but his acting and performances in this film, Scarface, Glengarry Ross, Serpico were amazing. However, this is my favorite film of Pacino, and the entire movie is so fun to watch, and very tense and exciting.
This, the Godfather pt 2 and Insomnia are my favorite Al Pacino performances. He is simply fantastic
This was such a good movie because it kept you interested and engaged in what was going on.
Practically. But trailers were quite generous in those days and still people flocked to watch the films..I love the trailers of the 1970s
The reason so many people (personally) find it so great is based on the realism of the performances & the fact that it captured New York's array of personalities. RIP Mr Lumet. Thank you, thank you, thank you. A true Master.
Love this movie! An absolute classic.
I love trailers from the 70's they show all the good parts
This trailer gives away the entire movie.
"i bark, he bites"... this movie's first 45 minutes is arguably the most entertained i've been watching a movie
If you've never seen this movie, you must. It's FANTASTIC!
This is such a contrast to modern trailers, brilliant
"Why didn't he TELL ME he needed MONEY?" Haa his mom is great!
I love that the part about Sal wanting to go to Wyoming (a "foreign country") was a total ad-lib... Al wasn't expecting him to say that but it's so great how he just went with it, and they kept it in the movie (according to director's commentary on the dvd)
If he was alive, I would want him to play me. John Cazale RIP.
+Davan Mani Jesus your're humble
ok
RIP Sidney Lumet, this is an amazing film.
That is precisely why folks like this movie so much.
Well worth the watch, they aired it on Sundance during the "1001 movies to watch before you die" scare way to title it, but they may air it again on Sundance. Just watched it yesterday. GREAT movie!!!
A true representation of Sydney Lumet's mastery. Rest in peace, you genius! You earned it!
I love that scene-stealer Marcia Jean Kurtz (1:42)! One of the several tributes paid by Spike Lee to this move was to give Marcia a small role in "Inside Man".
Al Pacino is amazing! ATTIKA ATTIKA ATTIKA, great actor, brilliant movie, LONG LIVE Italo american Actors and directors
Great performances all round i think...Shows what a great script & actors can do on a small budget.....
It's a good thing I've seen this movie a few times before I saw this trailer haha
i have never seen this movie and wanted to go buy it, wanted to see the trailer first... and I think they did... DAMN IT!!!
Sound would not play for me, but looks like a great film. didn’t know Leonard Cohen also did acting. Great stuff!

One of my favorite movies
my favorite movie with al pacino might even be my favorite movie
Wow this trailer pretty much explains the whole movie, luckily I saw the movie before the trailer.
watched it yesterday. this movie is genius!!!!
When he whipped that gun out of the box, it reminded me of his character in Scarface.
When are they going to give this man an OSCAR.I mean, what more can you ask of from such a great method actor.
Well, he has one for Scent of a Woman. Not enough if you ask me, but still...
I didn't realize that he got the Oscar for that. Thanks for the info. Feel a?little better:-)
MARLENE Adranovitz I feel you
Great satire/docudrama from director Sid Lumet (Network, 12 Angry Men, Find Me Guilty). Al Pacino rules here. Helped by Charles Durning, Carol Kane and the late John Cazale. A must see.

Michael and Freido playing Sonny and Sal. That's funny. I wonder how many more Godfather characters are in this movie.
excellent movie! al pacino for another one time is awesome playing this role.
Well Sonny, I am a Catholic myself and I would never hold a gun at anyone unless...May God have mercy on your soul!!!
great film, great actor
This movie reminds me of Osborne Gaines, my junior high industrial arts teacher who was tormented by being a woman trapped inside the body of a man. He/she eventually had a sex-change operation and found happiness as Ozma Gaines.
he looks innocent enough to make us forget scarface tony
al pacino is the greatest actor in the face of this earth
Attica! Attica! Sonny and Sal, these didn't know which way was up, it seems. Still, America loves the outlaws.
They showed too much in the trailer of the movie, they shouldve stopped at 0:56
Anttaco17
No, "why" was left out.
this is going on my list to watch after my exams! Cant wait
Did you take your exams? :))
Wow I didn't understand a word of that! Building giant lasers must be C O M P L I C A T E D!
i love Al Pacino
@xianneh Here here! Pacino's intensity mingled with his ethereal exquisite exotic beauty was out of this world! Well that was the best movie ever in like 2:40! Bravo AL Pacino!
DDA Masterpiece. Big Pacino fan. He wears hairpiece, since 1993 i guess.
al pacino is the standard by which acting excellency should be measured
@TheMashupMessiah nah, you missed the motive for the robbery, which is one of the best parts
"That fuckin' Jack, downtown!!!" LOL!!
I doubt there was anyone cooler then Al Pacino in the 70's. Well, as far as actors go at least.
But you certainly have a right to dislike what you dislike, we can learn to accept one another's preferences and it's all for good. @basstardize The Late Don la Fontaine. He was THE Voice behind all major trailers during the 80ies to 2000
@talkdat4
Detective: I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse.
Pacino (as Sonny): Where's my fucking jet and limousine?!
WHAT A MOVIE! IT'S GRITTY, ANTI-GLAMOROUS, EXCELLENT!
In the movie he makes it clear that he worked in a bank before so he had an idea of what the security devices were inside the bank for both the safe and the teller drawers. Maybe it was because he worked in a bank he thought he could pull it off.
Pacino looks like Ryan from The Office in this movie. lol
Al Pacino is a FUCKING genius in this movie!!!!
One of my all time favorites!!!!
I meant the fredo remark as a joke. The kiss in GF2 is symbolismn it means the kiss of death. Godfather came out first, I believe GF2 was also out before this
No one, and I mean no one can play a man at odds with the world like Al Pacino.
OMG Al Pacino is fantastic in this film. He's hilarious :)
wonderfull movie!Great and uforgettable John Cazale!
al pacino looks like sylvester stallone
Also, a great many have a preferance towards anything Al Pacino and he brings a lot to any performance, it would not have worked if it were just anyone else, even of a higher caliber talent. ATTICA !! ATTICA !! ATTICA !!
Well this trailer pretty muchs tells you the whole story except the final 10 seconds!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO fucking way, This was the fucking movie that was haunting me for years on end. I only remembered the car scene at the end and one of the bad guy's names was Sal. AWESOME. d(:
Alright, I ma watching it tonight
Anyone relate this "Absolute Classic" of a movie..to Airheads with Steve Bucemi, Brendan Fraiser, and Adam Sandler?
It was you, Fredo lol
@Anonymous1226 yeah it was almost the same with "the panic in needle park" also with al pacino exept in that movie there was not music at all
What can I say? Syd Field brought me here...
