On creating the gradient in Substance, you could always use the generator gradient which uses the position map and just sample the 2 areas you want the gradient to go between to get a nice gradient even if the UV's arnt perfectly straight.

Thank you for making such awesome videos! I've been watching them for the last half year or so and they've helped me learn a lot and get a semblance of a workflow going. I've tried to follow along and replicate a few of your videos for assignments in ZBrush and Maya classes I'm taking and been mostly successful. (Side note, you have a very soothing voice!)

I'll definitely do this when I get at my desk. They look so juicy and shiny.
My current project is modeling a human character, creating a female base mesh I can reuse whenever I need to do a female character.
A question I had asked myself when I modeled a sword some time ago. Where exactly should be the pivot point? Should it be at the position Maya is putting it automatically when centering pivot point, or should it be at the handle? Also, where should the weapon be positioned in Maya? I couldn't really find an answer for that, maybe you have a tip for me.

    • @3dextrude

I would probably put it at the handle location, it kinda depends how it will be used.

I don't understand about the UVs: looks like you made them in Maya but didn't you have to update them after sculpting more in ZBrush? Didn't see that part in the video 🤔 But this is helpful, thank you!
