@@hairyape_8103 Nah, Thor would have no issues there. I did a fair bit of Oly' lifting a couple years ago and all we did was hook grip pretty much. It takes a bit of getting used to for sure - not something you'll get the hang of overnight. I used to tape my thumb (which a lot of people do) and that helps.

I remember Martins hook gripping 360 in his prep for Rogue and I thought that was insane. Can't wait to see the battle between him and Thor next year, but excited to see Jamal at this year's deadlift world champs.
Hook gripping was my secret weapon when I was chasing deadlift PRs years ago, since my grip was my weakest point. I worked up to a 188kg DL PR at 72kg bodyweight from basically nothing in the span of a few months. As a personal record, it felt amazing. 5 years later I feel even stronger at 72kg, so I'm hoping to get back into the game and best that this year. Thor and Jamal, y'all are such inspirations!

how long did it take for u to get used to it? im thinking about switching to it since the setup and everything feels more natrual compared to mixed grip. im thinking if i start doing it for my warmup sets and then doing my working set with mixed till i get used to it then switching completely to hook.
@@softpianomusic7773 personally i did hook grip and ripped a 30lbs pr on dead as soon as i learned it just feels so much smoother. the pain all though... it took about 2 weeks to get fully used to it, and occasionally on a bad day where a callouses is irritated or torn a bit it will hurt like hell. The pain is very worth it though, its only rough the first few times tbh
@soft piano music so roughly 18 months ago I stared a new program called 5/3/1. And from the start I decided I'll just stick to hook and only hook. In my personal experience changing grip styles between warm up to working set actually screws up my setup so I warmup with hook and do main set with hook. I'm not sure how long it took me to build up calluses but I got them now and i don't feel any pain. But if I were to guess...i would say about a month or so to get used to it. Also I used the most aggressive knurled bar just to speed things up lol i think it worked. So 3 days ago I pulled 330 lbs for 18 straight reps without any thumb pain or discomfort. So just give it time and you'll get used to it. Again I feel like it's just overall better and most importantly my setup feels consistent no matter the day vs with straps I felt some days the setup just was just blah lol.
Can’t wait to see you incorporate more hook grip into your training! It definitely takes time to get used to, but once you do it may be game changing for your grip
@@vitaliyvorobets2738 I'm not interested in Sumo stance Deadlifts. They shorten the ROM and also mechanically gives an advantage on the starting position. Strongman rack pulls, ox cart, silver dollar, hummer tyre deadlifts also have a better range of motion than these sumo guys.
Maybe you should incorporate some grip specific exercises into your routine. Arm wrestling exercises would be perfect. Spinner handles and maybe even the old fashioned rice bucket.
hook grip keeps your body more aligned too. It took me only 1 month to get used to it and thumbs to strengthen before I could do a max set using it .A strong Hook grip alone could get Thor the WR when a mixed grip fail can lose you 40 or 50kg!
@@Nirsterkur well I think big hands makes hook grip easier so hafthor ticks that box. Jamal can hook grip over 400. I remember it was only 3 or 4 years ago that people thought using hook grip for 400kg and more was impossible but I have no doubt Thor can do 450 to 470 with hook grip if he prepares right. It's not easy and you can still fail and rip your hands open if you dont keep the callouses at the right thickness. not too thick not too thin imo.

If you are as tall al Thor conventional Is way easier. Sumo Is easier for t-rex people. If you can stay vertical with conventional it's easier the conventional. Also a lot of people do not even have the mobility to do sumo.
