Your deck is beautiful. You really nailed it on this entire deck/clean/repair/gazebo series. The finished product is impressive. Tell Ms. 731 to give herself an extra star on her chart for climbing up on the roof to lend a hand.
Every time we go to Sam's I tell my husband I am going to get one of those. He always replies with, "great, let me know when you have time to put it together". Yours turned out beautiful!
That was great mrs731 stuck on the roof. Reminded me of the time my wife got stuck in the attic, all I could do was laugh and video of course. Enjoy your deck in the heat and rain.
Great job - I'm jealous! 2 things of note: 1) You might be tempted to think they sped up the video when Matt was working under the deck. Truthfully, he was working that fast so he could hurry up and get outta there! 2) Glad to see that Mrs. 731 had her steel toe ankle socks on while up on the roof 😊
I can totally relate to Mrs. 731 being afraid of being on the roof. My wife won't let me get on our roof because I weigh 250, am 67 yrs old, and probably can't drop and roll like I've done before. She's deathly afraid of heights but she will get up to check things out. I do have 3 extension ladders though and as long as she can get to it, she's as fine as she ever will be. Really like the look of that gazebo, and having the electrical system built into it is a game changer as well.
Great build! The Lincoln Log like construction was pretty cool. When do you sleep? I’m amazed by how much you do and how much you get done. Don’t forget to take some time for you. Last thing any of us want is for you to get burnt out.
Great video and outstanding project! My wife is wanting to cover our front deck but she just is not sure exactly what she wants...Time will tell ! Nice job to you all
I put together a Cedar Swingest that the kids got for Christmas from everyone. . . 5 different boxes of parts and hardware, plus one toddler that "wanted to help". Let's just say, challenging!
Looking at your video, I bought exact same one from wayfair. The roof is very heavy but I’m so glad that I was able to get it done in one weekend. Definitely took four grown adults to put up roof.
This looks really nice on your deck. I helped my son (and 4 of his friends) build this exact same gazebo on his deck. It definitely takes more than 2 people, especially when installing the roof. But, it does look great! (We put extra support under the deck, too)
You might consider rope lights for the gazebo. Those lights tend to fill up with rain. Or maybe move them further under the roof. anyway it looks great.
I’ve thought about buying that from Sams several times. I’d have to screen the whole thing in though because we have kabazillions of skeeters up here in Jonesboro.
Wasps??? I tell you what, I'm not ashamed to say if I see one, never mind a swarm, I'm running like a female dog. My wife and I have a deal. If it crawls, it's on me. If its got wings and stings Mrs Gregg becomes my protector. The gazebo looks great, Matt. We saw a similar one at BJs the other day. Once the floating deck is in, I'll be picking one up and it will go on the deck. Thanks for the insight about the weight. Great job, looks great.
We just put in a new 16x18 deck in November that was originally supposed to have a 3 season porch attached to the house. Ultimately we nixed that in favor of new windows, but still built the deck as if it had the porch in case we add it later (12" joist spacing). My wife really wants a screened in area, so something like this but with screened sides might be the ticket. How much snow did you get? We got a bunch of cement this winter in NH, including over 24" about a month ago that just might have challenged that gazebo, lol.
Really nice. I heard you say, “Two people, my ....” I couldn’t remember if you said foot or hind end or just what. I’ve often wondered who are the people that put these together and it only took two people.
If you haven't, you may want to think about adding a gutter at the bottom of your house roof that goes over the deck. That way, if it rains or you have snow-melt, it won't run off the roof and onto the folks enjoying the new deck area under the gazebo.
@@731Woodworks it's basically a piece of flashing that slides under your shingles above a doorway or area you don't want water to run off. It moves the rain water to the left or right of that space. You can get them at Lowe's or home Depot pretty cheap
Tell me without telling me your from the deep south. --- wrapping Christmas lights around your new gazebo before you are even finished. Bonus points added for using SUMBAGUN in the video.
Looks great! I’m thinking of putting lighter metal one one deck but worried about weight (@300lbs is largest I’m considering). How much did this one weigh? Did anyone (engineer) give feedback on your reinforcement job underneath? Has it held up ok? I also have to contend with snow.
Great video as always, by chance being as good as you are at woodworking like yourself, did you notice any flaws from the factory I recently bought a workbench from HF and there was a section where the dowels did not line up so I had to make an adjustment to make them fit, I know it's 2 totally different things but just curious thanks
Glad to know you ain't got no sugar in your britches. And I really like the part where you said i don't like going under the deck. Teaching moment here men sometimes have to do things they don't like it is what makes us men.
Is the wood pre-treated or would you recommend something like Thompson's Water Seal to preserve the wood??? I understand Mrs. 731's issue with getting off the roof. I found out that I was afraid of heights the hard way. When I was in my late teens/early 20's, I had to get on the roof of our home (don't remember why) and actually had to have the local Fire Department come get me down. I am now 56 years old, and still have that fear, it sucks, I hate it. Mrs. 731, this fist bump is for you
Turned out great! Not judging, but just wondering since you've stated several times that you really got into woodworking only in the last few years...... Did you build the deck back in 2008, or contract it out back then?
Does rain not flow down the roof of your house in between the gazebo roof? Been thinking about doing something like this but don’t want a waterfall to walkthrough.
Hi. Thanks for the video. We are planning to buy this actual gazebo at sams club. Not sure if its a stupid question but Just wondering if we could assemble it in the wide space area of the backyard then just move it ( not putting yet the roof at this time) on the actual place( which is a wood flooring deck type but just 2inch above the land level).

This is a really nice looking gazebo. I checked my Sam's Club and they don't have anything near as nice as the one your put up. Great Job!
Awesome video! You've created an awesome outdoor area! Encouraging me to get on our deck build!

Can you show, how did you anchor the post to deck ?
I used lag bolts into the deck frame
