You did an amazing job!!! I bet your wife was very happy with it! I was getting so nervous seeing you clamp numerous boards together and cut them all at the same time. I have done this and made a huge trellis and cutting all the boards at the same time was just too much for me, I kept thinking I would make an error. Mine finally came out great but yours is amazing! Bravo!!

The thing with these one “man-builds X” series on YT is that most of them have access to hudreds-of-thousands dollar worth of tools and equipment. Which 99% of us don’t have, nor can we invest on unless we do these sort of thing commercially.

@@mordinsolus9414 he used a circular saw, router, jigsaw, saw saw, air compressor, pneumatic brad nailer, saw horses, clamps, chisels and a concrete drill bit. You could buy all of that for 1,000 to 1,500 dollars. You could like me start to buy some tools and then add more to your inventory with time.

I’ve been building a pergola over the patio I made out front of our house. It’s about 16x 9 so a decent size. I’ve spent about a month working here and there, mainly on the weekends but I am also sanding every board and staining. It’s such a huge improvement to the front and people are amazed at how it’s turning out. Nothing better then having neighbors ask you if you charge to do this work. Heh. Long as you are creative handy with tools anyone can build these. Having the right tools is a major help also.

Great job. As I watched you wield a persuader to mate the rafters to the beams, a lesson I've learned when building outdoor projects in the NW came to mind: the end grain shoulders of the notches on the rafters aren't going to dry much when tightly fitted, and they will expand in the wet seasons, slowing crushing the cell walls of the beam while driving in moisture. Even Cedar is subject to rot sooner than you'd think--unless you source old growth. It's tempting to always want to show off precision, but a bit looser fit, consistent of course, will last a lot longer. Alternatively, it pays to take the extra time required to apply end grain preservative, especially on the tenon shoulders, which being horizontal, will trap and hold moisture every time it rains.

On our family home years ago I trained a trumpet vine to grow up a newly built pergola that attached to the side of our home. It was beautiful and attracted hummingbirds. It was beautiful. Wisteria is very nice, too.

Planted a single Wisteria plant along a new cedar fence with lattice top thinking it would look cute. After a few years the vine had literally strangled, crushed and deformed my fence. It's like slow motion violence combined with Shackleton's wooden ship ripped apart by pack ice. Ruined the fence and then proceeded to climb and strangle a nearby cedar tree up to 30 foot heights. Plant should come with a waning label.

Great job, I’m curious tho. Could it be done in 2 layers instead of 3 on the roof? Seems a bit top heavy ?

I have a pool in the backyard and concrete ground’s not leveled up, and you gave me this brilliant idea on how to set up post heights and saved me from the dilemma! Thank you man!

He certainly did a great job but if I were going spend that much time and money, I would have put on waterproof patio roof.

You could add a few clear panels on the to on this pergola and have a waterproofed area

Really nice. I will be building one in a few weeks. I will watch all your videos and I like your design.
I was going to get some help but thanks to you I see I can do this project by myself.
