The UMC has engaged in outright apostasy.
I'll be leaving my UMC church soon, and it's breaking my heart.

Present member of the UMC can do a few things: 1) become active in your local and regional church government; 2) reject local clergy that is friendly toward the new rules; 3) cut your contributions to the local church by at least half; & 4) set up a foundation outside of your local church and the UMC to accept contributions and establish a "slush fund."
Significant funds controlled by conservatives combined with shrinking contributions will put the UMC in a bind. It will increase the rate at which it shuts down churches and will even pressure the UMC to sell some churches. The "slush fund" might come in hand to buy back UMC property.

There is no solution to this. The UMC has gone past the point of no return. They are apostate per their GC and anyone staying will inevitably be tainted by their "tares". While well intended the solution is to leave. The UMC has chosen to make themselves apostate. You shall know they are Christians by their love, that's the verse and using it as a hammer to justify staying is unethical.

if by “ethical” he means promising to obey and enforce the book of discipline, then ignoring it in favor of your favored politics (gay bishops, for one) then liberals are highly ethical.

If Bob is who I think he is, he was at one time the pastor at Peoria (IL) First UMC. Not sure of the rest of his background or current position.

It's the same Bob Phillips. He's a retired Navy Chaplain who served churches (that I know of) in Belleville (IL) and Alton (IL). I believe he's retired fully in order to attend to the controversies within the UMC. I don't know if he's moved over to the GMC.

The way you address this makes me angry, honestly. So angry I decided to not say eveything I think right now.

Why did you write this comment?

@@plainspokenpod Although I believe you are sincere and you want to do what is right, I also believe behaviour like yours is why we have these drag queens and other perverts in the pulpits of the "churches". How? With cowardice of the leaders. You were the ones that allowed this to happen. And now you ask people to be "gracious" (translated: being also cowards) and keep association with the devil.
The only reasonable approach is for all other churches to excommunicate the remaining UMC members. Whoever decided to stay in this place because they worship their "buildings", or because their families have been part of that congregation for centuries, and other nonsense, must be treated as publicans and pagans.
Paul was very clear on how to "graciously" deal with things that "not even the pagans tolerate":
"It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife. And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this? For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this. So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. "
What makes me angry is that you have an opposite view of what I believe is the correct biblical approach, perpetuating the cowardice.

@@carlsandgren8946 what are you talking about? I am not methodist and thank God I have nothing to do with the horror show this church became. I have made a comment explaining biblically my point, but for some reason it was deleted.
