At 5:57 one of my Christology books spends two pages trying to get a clear idea of what "porneia" meant by the unknown first century person who translated the original Hebrew Matthew into Greek. Since we cannot know that, the book delved into what that word ordinarily meant in Greek culture of that time, which is complex. I don't know if Nehemia Gordon (who is doing brilliant original research in his work to publish a definitive restoration of the original Hebrew Matthew) has yet tackled that particular mystery.
