    I’ve known Firebirds all my life . A aunt of mine had a 68 . It was torquiose with parchment interior . It was a 350 . An uncle of mine had a 68 formula . It was British racing green with black interior & black vinyl roof . This autumn bronze is beautiful colour . I don’t remember this colour . I’m really enjoying this videos & dying to see the end result . John, you have a great knack for put your ideas out . Thank you

      You have had a few nice Firebirds in the family for sure. Autumn bronze was a popular color but for some reason a lot of cars didn’t keep the original color. Most went red over the years. I did get the car painted and looks great. Video is on the way.

Please show how you do the striker for the door, if you paint the door hinges after the doors are installed (without the fenders) to get that side of them, and what you do with the underside of the hood.

      @VVG Firebird Restoration Station I put new door window roof seals in it it still had the original hard as a rock and breaking off in chunks seals. That's how I saw the white age cracked paint. Original headliner was gone but still had original pieces of the white headliner under some of the trim pieces. So I figure it was originally a green with a white painted top and white interior. Nice looking car when new I bet.

    Should I use black high build primer for a medium solid gray color called Sting Gray?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Рік тому +2

      I typically match my primer to my final color. If I am painting a car white I use a white sealer, if am going a dark color like black I use a black primer. In your case if sting gray is dark a black primer
      Would be ideal. If it’s light I would go with the gray primer under it.

    Very good job what brand of gun do you use and how big of a compressor ?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Рік тому +2

      My paint gun i bought from the MAC tool guy. It’s the econo coat gun. My compressor is a 60 gallon 220v twin Cyl single stage.
      On previous cars I have had great success with my little 30 gallon compressor with a $25 paint gun from a swap meet.
      What I am saying is good results are possible without spending silly money.

  • @Danno74Z
    @Danno74Z Рік тому +1

    Hi Jon, Watching this video again. A rerun. :) My questions are what spray gun are you using to paint the Bird? Is the gun LVLP or HVLP? 1.3mm tip? Down in the comments you said 40psi so I'm guessing it's a HVLP spray gun. Now your compressor. Is it a 60 gal 5HP machine? What type of regulator and water/oil separator do you have at the compressor? Lastly do you have any experience with the LVLP guns like the R500 and it's variants? Thanks Buddy and Happy New Year.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Рік тому +1

      Yes HVLP 1.3 tip for base and clear. The compressor is 60 gallon 220v 5hp. As for water separator I have one of those very basic ones right on the tank that I barely crack the drain while painting. Then at the gun inlet I use one of those small plastic inline disposable filters. So with that said I should have all kinds of water and contaminants in the paint but somehow I get very lucky I guess so I keep going at it this way. I also try to paint early morning about 65 degrees and very low humidity in the early spring before the bugs wake up.
      Someday I will upgrade to a better gun but with so many choices and I am so cheap I don’t know which way to go.

    • @Danno74Z
      @Danno74Z Рік тому

      Awesome Thanks for sharing the information! Your system/method WORKS!! I would not change a thing. KISS formula right? I hope you don't change anything because 95% of us DIY'er will NEVER have a quarter million dollar spray booth or a $900 spray gun or a $3,000 Scroll Air Compressor!!

  • @gunnerjs68camaro
    @gunnerjs68camaro Рік тому +1

    Quick question for you. I bought the same hinges that you did because mine were toast. When you painted around the door edges, the hinges got sprayed with the sealer and paint just like everything else. Did you scuff or sand the hinges before you sprayed?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Рік тому +2

      Yes scuffed with a scotchbrite pad then wiped down and cleaned them. I don’t strip the edp off

  • @trishm27
    @trishm27 Рік тому +1

    I’m a definite newbie. So when setting up the paint gun, what psi is you using with the gravity fed sprayer ?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Рік тому +1

      Great question. The answer is all paint guns are a little different I will tell you what I set it and and for the best results with the gun you are using might need a little tweaking. On my gun you will see a pressure gauge. I will adjust the air pressure so it reads 40 psi while pulling the trigger and stays steady.

    I have to ask. Have you ever considered doing the painting on a rotisserie? I know your channel is about DIY in your own garage but some things might be worth doing out of the garage IF the budget will allow. The reason I ask about doing it this way would be ZERO paint lines-seams.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
