no idea why no one is talking about it but WALK has got to be one of the most incredible horror games ive seen in a LONG time. its so simple, you dont know anything, all you know is to walk. the fixed perspective was nothing short of genius. id love to see more games utilize that.

WALK even has a secret ending. Apparently it sends morse code messages through your dual shock controller when the monster approaches you and the controller vibrates. You have to type the words it tells you and you get transported into a burning forest, where you have to reach the top of the tower and the monster chases you as a harpy and eventually kills you. Then it cuts back to the little girl walking. lol

No one lives under a lighthouse does a similar thing to WALK. It has a scene where you play from the perspective of the monster. It's about you showing up on an island with a lighthouse where the previous caretaker has disappeared, but something is not quite right. I highly recommend it.

Mothered makes me so angry. Imagine having your consciousness ripped from your body and placed into a machine, you are awake but cannot control what the machine body does. You are forced to helplessly watch your own mother, someone you loved more than anything in the world, treat you like garbage and feed you literal dirt. The few desperate times you are able to override the bot programming and cry out to her, she reacts with fear and hostility.
I know it's a prequel to the main game, and this is a semi-spoiler, but man I hope she got revenge on her parents in the end.

I too had parents on the brink of divorce, constantly fighting, shortly after my grandma passed. 32:15 To anyone who's curious, this is a rare example of "second person" (not first person or third person) gameplay. Another example that I can think of that does this is a mission in Driver: San Francisco, where you see through the eyes of the person who's chasing you with a car, while you're controlling your own car through his POV. It's a really fascinating gameplay/storytelling concept.

Echostasis is scary because it feels like it’s exactly what’s happening with AI art now, it’s currently creating things that a human mind inputs (which is already making artists lose opportunities) but in the future it could get better and better, until the point where you couldn’t tell the difference between a human’s work, and an ai’s soulless mass-produced generation. A cerebral scan is starting to seem like plausible development in the future…

"D" was one of the first PS1 games I ever played. Something about the awkward unnatural voice acting and the slow movement made it feel surreal and creepy in a unique way. I probably wouldn't have the patience to play through it today, but back then those graphics blew my dang mind.

Honestly, I was kind of hoping that the twist to "Mothered" was that you had undergone delicate brain surgery and things seemed so weird because you were still recovering. And like, maybe you can just go along with it and eventually things go back to normal or you "fight" the "monsters" and maybe that's the sad ending where you realize that there were no monsters all along.

I like the fulfilled contract ending. even though it is utterly terrifying with how whiskers outright rewrote the parents in the most disturbing way, Adrienne was left alone and given the best ending for her. Even if whiskers didn't care about her personally and only saw it as a contract, the fact that it didn't harm her in this ending and gave her what she truly wanted is heartwarming.

that ending is simple, trustworthy magic. you fulfill the deal and things go well and she gets her happy end. the other one could go literally any direction, she is host to something that is totally unknown.

I remember playing through the full version of Mothered and loving every moment of it-I had no idea that the dev had other titles out and that their stories are connected, so I’m definitely going to have to check those games out too!

I like how the subtitles for the Playstation 1 boot up sound was "uneasy music" lol still one of my favorite sounds. Your writing and editing are superb every time. I love the transitions, you make your ad segments with as much atmosphere as the rest of the video, so much great consistency with this channel. Keep it up Nexpo, you're awesome.

Not gonna lie, when I realized that Mothered was related to Echostasis I got a serious chill go down my spine at the realization.
While I don't ever want to touch that game with a 12ft pole, I think that feeling is enough to make me want to see if anyone else has a playthrough of it. Honestly, I don't know how else to put that feeling I had as anything other than a chill because I don't know if I know if I've ever had that kind of feeling before. Arguably similar yes, but not the same.
ANd that, I think, is a damn good sign for any game.
EDIT: ALso super-hyped at the hint that you will revisit these games!

I love Nexpo's content because it has a heart that a lot of other channels seem to miss out, he's got the perfect mood, but he has silly little moments that break the character of this serious, no-nonsense horror channel that he usually is that make those moments so much more enjoyable, and the heart that goes into the videos are something else, none of them are ever uninteresting or unentertaining to watch, ever.

I absolutely love the genre of horror that ends very sadly, and deeply, rather than the simpler type that is just plain scary and unsettling. I really want to see how Heartworm turns out - how the devs address childhood trauma. The demo was beautiful and sad - I loved it.

I TOTALLY agree. Puppet combo and Chilla's art guys are INCREDIBLY talented! I love their works!
37:28 it may be a stretch, but I think that Cult has similarities with the game created for the Gemini home entertainment story. The fact that on the board is written " I am the perfect vessel" , the newspaper scrap, the layout of the place..it reminds me that game.
52:37 wow, Echostasis looks like that kind of game you can write a whole essay about! It makes you feel a sense of dread so deep that you can start asking to yourself " what if one day in the future such thing would happen?".
Growing my granpa reminds me of " the dunwich Horror " by Lovecraft somehow.

I can't explain the bizarre happiness I have finding out about this PS1 revival wave. I have been obsessed with the idea for a long time, I've never known about projects like these until now - things like the Bloodborne demake, Haunted PS1.. It's awesome to know that this pure love for a highly specific aesthetic connects our brains, providing a shared dreamscape which we all wander through. We are wandering in that space together, despite being distributed all over the world - and together, without even knowing it, we all create the desire for these things - a true collective unconscious. It's awesome.
