The worst part to me is that... I just don't see what they were trying to accomplish. I need to read more about the supposed theory behind it, but the general concept is that they were trying to "rebirth" her, so that her parents would accept her? If you're having trouble accepting your child, that's a terrible thing that you should deal with yourself. But, even more than that, the torture they put her through... how does any of that have anything to do with a bond between a parent and a child? And there's just little bits of it that make no fucking sense. They called her a quitter... Because she was still alive, I guess? What was it that she was quitting and how? It's just fucking baffling. I'll never actually understand it, but maybe better context will help... Not sure how it could though. lol
@@bronsoncarder2491 I'm not a psych student or anything, but I think I might be able to explain... SOME of what they were supposedly going for. So it wasn't that her parents couldn't accept her, but that Candace couldn't accept her parents. Or, more accurately, Candace's original, biological parents were abusive, so she was taken away, and then when she was later adopted by Newmaker she acted out, being aggressive and not the most obedient or stable or happy kid at first - like, you know, probably most if not every adopted kid would act. She was probably stressed, traumatised, experiencing mental illness and symptoms of such, having her whole life upended and not knowing if her new family was going to be anything like the old one. (Also I believe she was separated from her younger siblings at that point, but I could be misremembering) Also bear in mind she was I think 7 or 8 years old? It was Jeane Newmaker, the "new mother" who was concerned or perhaps just bothered by Candace's behaviour and attitude so she started taking her to a psychiatrist. The whole "rebirthing" thing was supposed to simulate being "born" again to "meet" Jeane and thus accept her as the role of "mother". I have zero idea if this is or was even a real treatment. Like I said, not my field. Someone else can round off if this was actually a studied thing that had been implemented before? But to me it just sounds dumb. On its own though, it doesn't sound deadly. What pisses me off is that they then put weight on her. They made it deliberately more difficult for her to do what they expected her to do, whether or not she wanted or tried to. They called her a quitter because a CHILD was unable to push HUNDREDS OF POUNDS off of herself while at the same time fighting her way out of a pile of pillows and sheets. They called it laziness, essentially. Presumed that, again an 8 year old, would understand ALL OF that psychological symbolism and then simply choose to say, "nah, being that person's child is too much effort". They simply saw it all as Candace "rejecting" her adoptive family. Instead of, her being physically unable to do so?? Make no mistake, that poor girl died because of a blatant misunderstanding of how abuse and trauma work, and the sheer EGO of at least three people. The mother was hurt that her baby wasn't settling down quick enough, and the supposed therapists were mad at her for their "treatment" not immediately working wonders. It's truly one of the most upsetting stories I've ever heard to this day.

i still find it crazy how someone had to either code or animate the gameplay like it was actually playable which is insane for the level of effort this series has
It has to be a game they made. With 2017 technology it wouldn't be impossible. You just wouldn't need to make it cohesive in any way, allow the editing to gloss over any programming imperfections.
Yeah it has to be an actual game, even if it's made for the purpose of this series only. The movement, the visuals, interactions, popups, etc, I think it'd be harder to animate them than making an actual game.
holy shit, i know it's a small thing, but it's so clever that to catch care nlm he has to set the treadmill to -1, thus turning "he loves me not" into "he loves me", which simultaneously is technically a lie, because it isn't physically possible for something to have -1 petals. absolutely brillaint
Yeah, but considering that this game is about as controversial as Cannibal Holocaust, I'm not shocked to see family abuse being the most common horror found in real life and online.

Im still in a middle of video, but noticed small detail about catching Care NLM. By moving treadmill to -1 it would remove one more chamomile petal. So, "They love me not" changes to "They love me". And that allowed to catch Care. "To catch her to had to lie"
@@kaviarnciggarettesthe flower references the game where you pluck the petals of a flower saying "they love me" and "they love me not" so, by moving the treadmill to -1, it's like you're plucking an additional petal.
I love so much how smart of a character Paul is. He's a detective, unafraid of the eerie content within. He makes the immediate connection that Petscop is more than just lost media. It's meant FOR him. At first, shocked to see direct connections to him, but he quickly rationalizes what's going on. Paul is absolutely one of my favorite youtube ARG-style story characters
He made petscop for me, it literally would not be the same without him. His method of discovery but ambiguous nature of his information is was keeps me hooked
Reminds me of the Godzilla NES creepypasta sequel, the guy immediately realizes the nature of the Cartridge, that the game has a whole ecosystem existing
The most unnerving part of this whole video was 1:26:35, when you said "refill that mineral water and grab a couple string cheeses". I just refilled my tequila and mineral and ate some cheese. It feels like it ties into the recording/ predicting movement you mentioned in Petscop.
Petscop is for sure one of the best internet web series ever made. The amount of interconnectedness between seemingly unrelated videos, the eerie and dark atmosphere, the story, and the music. It definitely is the "creepy lost video game" gold standard in my book.
@@Primordialsoap I've looked it up and you're right (even though you'll find some people mistakenly calling it one). I'll change it to web series then. Nowadays, people name ARG almost any unfiction series with mysterious narrative, where you have to heavily rely on theory crafting and look for clues to uncover the truth. I don't blame myself for calling it as such.
I love the dialogue in petscop so much. "I just checked the recording, because I was recording." "I think there is something to see. I just, haven't seen it yet." Etc. It sounds so perfectly like how a little boy would explain something to his cousin unscripted. So fantastically written and acted.
@meljXD2 you're an idiot. I said that it does, because it's hokey and awkward. Like a bad or inexperienced actor. Like how someone not comfortable in front of a camera would act. Like someone, I dunno, *recording a video for their cousin would be like*
OK whoa, this is my first time hearing about Paul casually humming what he played on the Needles Piano three episodes prior. That’s fucking wild. I don’t think I’ll ever stop learning about this series and its secrets
35:50 I just wanted to say thank you for making sure to include this information. The Petscop story is one of my favorites web horrors but i always get a bit worried when people find the Numaker connection and suddenly hijacks the story's lore for that of a "True Crime" AU. All stories are up to the reader's interpretation, but its good when the author is able to encourage or discourage particular readings of a text.
The numaker connection feels so overt with things like "the newmaker plane" and such, that it's kinda hard to blame people for seeing it as a hammer, and the rest of the arg as the nails. Ironically, hyperfixating on this one well documented tragedy though misses the forest for the trees. Child Abuse is everywhere. Never for a good reason. And almost always comes from family. And petscop was trying to shine a light on all of it. But instead of a floodlight, it used a spotlight.
I love how despite being generally neutral, Nexpo still manages to slip in some personality like mentioning how Paul is "shitting around" or saying "they bombastically claim that a fucking windmill vanished."
1:45:42 "I'll come out in a minute. Keep playing" and then later when Paul checks the description for Care A, which presumably was the big moment the game was leading up to, it says "Check your bathroom now". Idk if you'll ever get back to this, but it's strongly implied that Rainer offed himself in that bathroom after showing the game to the family.
@@starsreachshreya2017 i think its the combination of the tone of the message (fuck you all and fuck me as well. merry christmas. check your bathroom now) and that to get to this dialogue, paul has to jump into the bathtub. you could interpret that as drowning himself
@@fiend-ish1090 exactly. Rainer prevents them from checking on him prematurely by saying that he’ll come out soon. Then at the crescendo moment he pretty much orders them to check on him, because he won’t be able to come out himself since he’s dead. It’s the tone of the message and the sequence of calls to action that Rainer makes that made me think this, plus the importance of the in game moment of catching Care A and shining light on Marvin’s crimes.
Hey, CSA survivor here, that calendar gave me chills. Since this game is very obviously pointing towards child abuse, the calendar starting with some green, and increasing until it's completely green could imply the abuse started gradually and then turned into a daily affair. Again, my hypothesis, I haven't finished the video
Same! i personally don't think it would be appropriate for this to be the case (tired of this being a common horror plot) but as a survivor I feel seen almost. It isn't explicit but I feel that same feeling. especially the phrase nobody loves me
that’s a really interesting interpretation. I’m personally in the camp of thinking it’s maybe a split child custody calendar, where all the green day’s representing marvin’s custody over care, with the calendar turning all green after he kidnapped her. That’s just what stood out to me as a kid of a split custody divorce, the schedule flip flopped around pretty often before eventually i just started living with my mom full time, so seeing similar shifts reflected in the patterns on the calendar is part of what drew me towards that conclusion.
it is probably showing marvins custody of care since its in green and the dates match up starts off every other day then weekends only and then after he kidnaps her its all the time
omg as a CSA survivor by a family member for a long period of time i can def acknowledge which i’m sure you could too but hope this wasn’t your case but you’re totally right ): the whole story is pointing towards Marvin abusing her. to me it’s clearly SA or DV maybe both but clearly SA because even at the beginning it says Marvin is in the bathtub thinking of her. which is super creepy and odd idk i hate how i sense this is what’s happened but i also don’t want to believe it because it would be absolutely horrible and also because i wonder if it’s my own trauma always leading me to associate my abuse and always point towards SA but aye when in doubt it’s got to be for a reason. i don’t know seems like whoever made this game knew too much. really suspicious. also if this is the child that tragically passed away at therapy which that’s not even therapy that’s straight up devils work how disgusting for all those adults to witness that poor innocent beautiful babygirl going thru all of that and not helping her idk i cannot comprehend but an autopsy had to be done¿ and therefore check if any abuse happened prior to the day she passed. idk i have so many questions and im still at 1h48M
One thing you forgot to mention is that when the treadmill was set to -1 it meant that Care was loved, and that’s why in care’s description it said you lied in order to get her.
@@AliAbbas-iy3cmits you love me, you love me not, the flower went you love me not but he couted an extra time sot that it was possible to get you love me
A small correction at 8:33 - Paul doesn't collect Amber just by glitching through a wall. He opens both gates, then closes one, and gets in before it closes - thus locking himself in Amber's cage - before escaping through a secret passage in the side, leading to the other gate. It's a small detail, but it's relevant to the context of Amber as a character, and what "catching" her means.
Your comment is ok but there is something I think you forgot. After watching this again, I noticed something potentially chilling in Rainer's note. At the very end of the note he says: "Fuck you all, and fuck me as well. Merry Christmas. Check your bathroom now." We all seem to assume he means the bathroom in game, because that's what Paul does. But this could have a double meaning. Rainer could be asking them to check the house's real bathroom, that Christmas day...to check the bathroom for him. I think Rainer killed himself in that bathroom. With other references to Rainer being dead in the note to Tiara/Belle, and with some of his implied guilt/complicitness in Marvin's shenanigans, this would not surprise me very much. That being said, the threads I have given are unfortunately rather tenous evidence-wise, and this is just speculation. Let me know if you find anything else interesting related to this potential plot thread!
Tbh there is a bit more of evidence regarding the idea that Rainer actually DID kill himself inside that bathroom since in "Petscop Soundtrack" there is an "unused" track called "Bathroom Tomb" with the image representing it being the Ever Care's version of Marvin's House, to be exact it shows where the bathroom would be in Marvin's House
The meta of the entire Petscop series is pretty insane when you think about it, an entire game created by "Paul." and everything in it was purposeful, the glitches, the "random" events and way in which the game is talked about is all done to sell the idea that this game is real, truly masterful work. I can't imagine how much time was put behind the scenes.
It is art through and through. Petscop has haunted me and stayed in the back of my mind for yearsss!! Anything that can do that to a person is an incredible piece of art. 🖤
The guy doing the player is so convincing, like almost every bit of commentary feels super on-point in both the voice and the writing. You can really tell that whoever did this really grew up with old LP's to get the vibe of things down like this.

"You had to lie, but it might not always be a lie" The treadmill represents the number of flower petals. Normally you pull the petals off and it ends at "loves me not", so the lie was counting an extra petal that wasn't there(-1) saying "loves me".
The Candace Newmaker story makes me so enraged, that poor girl. I’m glad something like this exists so more people learn about her and won’t forget what she had to go through, and the horror that adults can and do put children through. Never forget and I hope she is resting in peace.

I'm at around 1:36:00 and I want to write down a thought to see if it's right. Marvin and his wife divorced and had split custody of Care. At first they switched custody every other day. But then they changed to Marvin having custody on weekends and his ex-wife having custody during the week. On June 5th, 1997 Marvin kidnapped Care, and then she escaped and returned to her mother on November 10th.
Luminous He literally explained the whole situation very well, tf you on bro. Also, we’re not even allowed to reference him because of your dumbass worldview?
- "When Care A goes missing, she goes missing forever." - "My brother didn't want us to find him, because he knew we were all looking for Michael A." These lines are so profound. Like a gut-punch to the soul. Man, I can't wait for your next vid on this gem.
I don't know what's worse, the tragic murder itself or that the victim's legacy will be in the form of a paycheck to shithead theorists, instead of serving as a cautionary tale on the atrocities of child abuse and the dangers of unregulated practitioners and therapists.
@@Myth_Investagator yeah, the main story is that Marvin is a p3do who kidnapped kids after becoming a teacher/school councilor. The ‘your friend disappeared’ is a result of Marvin victimizing her. Then, ‘your friend was reborn as your daughter’ meant that she looked like Lena and Marvin was attracted to her as well, leading to him abusing her at home and then kidnapping her once Care’s mom (Marvin’s wife and Lena’s sister) figured out what was going on and kicked him out of the house.
If the conversation about the CDs with Jill is a conversation that Paul had, he knows a Jill. If Yellow is also Care’s “color”, she has an aunt named Jill, looks like Paul, knows Care’s song, and shares the same birthday as Paul… I’m starting to think that Paul might BE Care, but successfully rebirthed, unlike Tiara. I think this game is made for Paul by Rainer to make him “wake up” like he said. It’s a stretch, especially because it doesn’t explain the difference in gender, but that’s my theory.
@@RivLabsThat could be one way to look at it. But I wonder if Rebirthing could completely alter how someone could perceive themselves, i.e., their gender. If I understand the concept of Rebirthing right in Petscop, it could almost completely wipe away their original identity and replace it with a new one. If it can replace someone’s identity with another’s, it *could* be possible that their gender is perceived differently in their minds. How that would work when they go to the bathroom and take showers is a different thing. Maybe their mind completely blocks out their body parts? This is a HUGE “What If” thing that I don’t think I could properly explain on what all this shit could mean 😅🤦🏼♀️ Bc I’m kinda lost as fuck, ngl, even tho I’m deeply invested.
there are many cases of pacients who developed multiple identities whose gender were different from the birth sex, it is really not uncommon between cases like that.

What surprises me the most is how Nexpo always does the subtitles with great attention even on videos that are longer than 2 hours. It's just that extra touch that makes this video seem as polished as it can be, great stuff
Polished videos are getting so rare, even with the big creators. I love the effort put in. Makes for such a better experience than some live stream with no effort or editing. Love you Nexpo!!!!
I think at its core, this is the story of family secrets. What happens when “keeping it in the family,” “us vs them,” “don’t let anyone see we’re not perfect” morphs into being complicit to something truly evil. There’s no way the family didn’t know to some degree or capacity. I refuse to believe that *no one* had an inkling that something was off about Marvin and how he treated his daughter and wife. They saw it but they kept it quiet because that’s what you do. You keep family problems in the family. Don’t involve police, don’t show your dirty laundry, don’t show anyone outside of the family the truth. It sounds so ridiculous like if they thought for a moment that he could hurt his daughter of *course* they’d do something! But no. Family’s like this are the reason we have the “creepy uncle” stereotype that was so prevalent in pop culture in the past (thankfully were moving past it in the last decade but this is still a thing that happens and that some families just accept, putting the responsibility on the young kids to not wear “provocative” clothes and shit like that). The level of delusion that’s possible when you refuse to accept that there are serious issues in your family, is truly hard to fathom. These are the people who stand by their relatives when their accused of rape or murder or kidnapping etc. despite the evidence, the witnesses, the verdict. Care and Michael and Bella never had a goddamn chance.
That is why teaching children what good touch bad touch is and that people of the same sex as them can also abuse them and such. And what abuse even means so that these monsters can gets what is due.
I’m the despised black sheep in my family because I don’t give a fuck, if someone is immensely shitty I’ll shout it and they’ve never programmed me with that “keep secrets and present a perfect image” shit Fuck that noise
Well that was fantastic, thank you! I'm actually glad I missed this upload so I can go straight onto part 2. Also as another massive SOMA fan I wanted to mention something: The brain scans in SOMA really *were* just intended to be used to simulate medical treatments and their outcomes for each individual person's brain, I don't think there was any shady or malicious intent behind them. It was only after the impact that the scans were retrieved and essentially misused by the WAU to produce new 'living' conscious entities with all the questionable ethics that entails. At least that was my take. Incredible game I think about a lot.
I seriously do not recall Paul catching Amber glitching through the wall. I remember him catching her by deceiving her and waiting in her locked cell for her to jump back in.
So I just went back and watched it real quick. There's no glitch. After opening both gates, he interacts with the switch that operates the left gate, and runs in while it is closing.
The completely authentic PS1 aesthetic, the genius synchronicity of scripted events, the incredible symbolism, the nuanced use of mechanics to reveal the story, the odd blend of 2D and 3D, the speed run-like button recreation, and everything in between cement this "game" as the greatest portrayal of meaning in the history of modern digital "punk" art. This is FSR level.

Bingo.” (Thanks @mono6158 for the idea!!)
My take on the whole thing with Care's father, or at least his obsession with her, is that he originally wanted to be with the sister that 'vanished' but settled on his current wife. They had a daughter that looked somewhat like the vanished sister and the dad's fucked mind believed it was his 'second chance' to be with the woman he actually wanted. So he thought about her in the bath, he got excited over something that was perhaps similar to the sister's behavior, and kidnapped Care to groom her into being the person he wanted and do whatever monsterous things to her.
And then in the school he used whatever the hell rebirthing is but it failed and Care escaped. Care became Care NLM. Rainer figures out what marvin did and makes petscop to expose Marvin.
The scene with Marvin in front of the camera is really clever. The way the miscellaneous items appear reads really clearly as someone cycling through in game assets and props, down to the 'O's not being blocks but just textures with circles on them. It adds to the feeling of the npc behavior being an emergent event, not something planned or intended by the developers, buts it's way more subtle than the moving reflection character
Do not fall asleep watching this video. Woke up at 3AM this morning thinking I was about to get murdered because of the burn in warning noise. Great video except for that part
About your final point: Compare it to Black Mirror's "White Christmas" episode. That punishment of being stuck alive in the virtual world for thousands and thousands of years would be torment, yes, but that's because it's powered on. If we look at Simon in SOMA, all of that time passed without him even perceiving it because he simply wasn't connected to something that was powered on. Like sleeping without dreaming, Simon could elect to just crush/deactivate his new body, and he wouldn't be trapped forever, he'd just stop being. For Petscop, if you melt down the memory card and the disc, nobody would be trapped, right?
The quitter part is actually crazy. The programming required to make the mirror image copy you but not quite get it right would have to be extremely complicated.
Considering that it isn’t a real game that part could just be a cutscene entirely. Or it could just have a follow player/don’t follow player movement mode
@@MidRankedDeity From what I understand, it isn't. No playable version has been released despite it being several years since the videos were uploaded. Excluding fan made games of course. It would be much easier to make a basic walking sim in some free engine and have certain triggers set up for basic events, while also having cutscenes or animations for more complex movements. Sure, it could all be coded, but that would be a large time investment alongside recording, scripting, and editing these videos.
It's quite easy actually. Here's one way that it could be done : The mirrored characters is a second player object with a different sprite. Store the player movement in an array and reverse it by adding a *(-1) in the player input and add a delay when a trigger hit. The array allow to still mimic Paul movement 1:1 but with 1 step delay so you see the two synchronize when paul stop moving. Edit : it seems that the movement is only reversed for left-right. Fun fact : in old 3d games, mirrors were expensive to render so they duplicated and mirrored the room ( usually a bathroom ) and the mirror is just a window to that other room. I think silent hill did it.
@@nyekomimiPyrocynical, a commentary youtuber made a video on petscop that is seen as one of his best videos. It left off with a "promise" (not sure if he said he would or if he said he might) of a followup video dubbed "petscop 2". Since then for years ppl have been jokingly asking when petscop 2 is comming out. (pyro has pretty much said it isnt by now iirc. i dont follow him much but last i heard it was completely canceled) But pyros comments love bullying him for it (and many other reasons such as "slop" and "the incident")
Odd thing I noticed: When he enters the code, he doesn't even attempt to catch the last pet. He immediately says "alright I'm going to show you what it's like outside" and stays quiet. To me, it shows he knows exactly what's about to happen next...

I just wanted to say I am really thankful for the way you add closed captions to your videos. You actually caption the sound effects and music, and don't rely on the automated captions that are pretty often inaccurate and don't describe anything. If for no other reason than for the sake of my neighbors I tend to listen to things on low volume if not using headphones. Not a lot of creators take the time to caption their videos properly and some vids don't even have the automated captions available. (Also I really like that you cover things that haven't been done to death in vids like your darkest lost media series instead of using the same old same old creepy youtube staples.)
Having English as my secondary language, I spent so much time hearing English, and reading subtitles I really like it, helped me tremendously in comprehension. I also watched films with subtitles This one is no exception ! Great work !
Same here. Even if I’m not paying full attention to the video sometimes as I hear it in the background, when I’m watching it helps me process what exactly is being said and clarifying what I’m hearing
"To be continued" Ah cool, now the wait for Petscop 2 applies to two videos, not just one. At least this time I'm fairly certain this one is more likely to come into existence.
It seems to me that Belle and Tiara, at some point, faced a similar conundrum to that of Paul and Care and what they are (or will be): Belle is represented by purple, Tiara by fuscia, similarly Care is represented by yellow but Paul is actually represented by red. When you reach the locker in the school that part takes relevance because it helps you understand a little better the meaning behind the last note you get.
@@CerberusPlusOne There are some lockers in the old school building, one of them requires a password that Tiara will give Paul. There's a very weird note and two things in it (I don't want to give spoilers in case someone here hasn't watch it), the colors of the objects help to further understand what the description of one of them means.
21:36 i find it incredibly unnerving that there is a thin line from the top of the ceiling to what looks like the back of cares head, because the imagery that this implies make me incredibly uncomfortable...
I was a kid going into middle school when the Newmaker thing happened, but at the time, never knew the details of the case, including the names of the people involved. So, when Petscop rolled around, and I kept hearing how it was about "the girl who was crushed and suffocated in blankets," it was such a surreal feeling.
I was not ready for the footage of the abuse and murder Candace Newmaker was subjected to. Having two daughters myself, this broke me. The depravity of this event just makes me cry and cry. That sweet baby should never have had to go through anything like that.

This documentary is so easy to follow and really wraps everything neatly into a gift for viewers to enjoy. petscop has forever been my favorite indie horror game. i love lets plays and it is so unsettling and scary. despite having nearly 0 jumpscares, they somehow made one of the most creepy games ive ever seen. huge props to the creators.
Your favorite indie horror game, you've never played... :/ Only unfortunate part of this is that the original creator never released the game which is just sad tbh.
@@Styphoryteit actually released… it was a small distributor who gotten an indie title for a game that never got much marketing of publish recognition. Edit: so apparently the games publisher went belly up before it ever could release its first title. The company itself did so badly within the first month of launch that it had no position on the table . The original creator apparently went bankrupt as well and the whole game was eventually failed to even get the game in stores… Idk if that means anything to you but I know at least 12 game companies and publishers from the 1990s who all went bankrupt before they could release their first title. Sony had thousands of companies trying to publish content for them. Not all of them were able to get its own place… kind of like the publisher for nintendo switches Ark evolved copy. The game publisher went belly up and was left with no other publishers working on it. Idk where or who published this but if I had to guess it was probably a different country that this game was published. I get that feeling from the title of the publisher company name. I’m guessing it was maybe European. But I could be wrong.

It would be infinitely hilarious if they made a spoof video of the series, but if it was a speedrunner that found the game and they just 100% fc it in like 10 minutes
"Yeah, I had the 'trauma%' WR for a few months but 'Spodermuff' took it from me. I'm working on some new strats, though, and I'm gonna take it back. People say that 'Windmill Skip' is impossible but I think I know a way to pull it off."
This is one of the better Petscop videos out there, that avoid many issues that others have. It's overall pretty decent. However, there are some problems, and in the interest of that Petscop watchers are often very susceptible to misinterpreting the series based on errors, I'd like to point out some rather crucial instances of errors, mistakes, and issues in this video: 7:13 - Doors will be a roadblock because the player character doesn't know how to open doors, as the textbox says. It's not due to not having any hands, because Marvin can open doors (and does not get this textbox, though he doesn't open this door) despite also not having hands (seen in Petscop 20). 46:55 - Paul saying "the thing in the mirror room" is referring to walking behind the bookshelf and the occurrence after that, not getting to the other side. 58:20, 1:08:10 - They don't really. It's cleared up later in Petscop 20 and made much less interesting; this list of things-to-expect-later are likely from Anna's "list of objects" which gets mentioned. They probably own said list. 1:07:53 - This becomes insignificant with info on the recordings system later on. 1:12:30 - Cutting out the in-between brick building thing here was missing out on an opportunity to bring attention to the various icon associations and parallels between actions and rooms in Even Care via the "symbol blocks" as we commonly call them, which becomes VERY important later on. It's indicative of some form of being counterparts. This could have then been further discussed at 1:13:55, 1:18:38, and 1:59:40. 1:17:36, 1:23:56 - That's what the PANICSV (commonly believed to be "panic save") indicates having saved. 1:29:22 - The censors aren't about Paul. Censors only seem to appear in two circumstances consistently: A) They're one of the list of objects, which affect anyone who sees them, and the people managing the censors do not want to affect the casual viewers (as they are implied to do as per Petscop 20). B) They contain personal information [in-universe], and are covered up to not cause out-of-universe viewers trying to look into it since Petscop isn't an ARG. The tool answer censor falls under case B, as in Petscop 22 it is suggested to be some real-life coordinates. 1:29:52 - The censors are edited in, outside of gameplay. There's actual content under the censors that Paul saw. 1:36:28 - This is *very* possible, and isn't really a paradox. Paul heavily implies earlier in the episode that his part of the family doesn't really see or interact with the other side of the family very often, including when he was younger. It's pretty feasible that perhaps he was never introduced to the part of family with Care, given that they too were separate. Maybe the two never met again shortly after birth [back when he wouldn't remember], perhaps? Consider that he doesn't seem to recognize Marvin either, as he never says anything like "huh, one of my relatives is named Marvin!" after seeing the pink tool's message. It is much more likely - and corroborated later within the series - that his extended family is very, very fragmented, and his bubble has simply never intersected again with Care's. There are also themes of being out of the loop, which seem to apply here. 1:40:22 - Marvin isn't the green tool. It being green is just a coincidence. Both of them are also seen at the same time in Petscop 23. 1:55:37 - "Gone" does not mean "dead". Rainer is not at all confirmed to be dead. 1:57:12, 2:27:02 - See "PlayStation Link Cable" on Wikipedia 1:58:04 [and other times] - Virtually every "artificial intelligence" or "inhuman players" theory for Petscop of ANY sort can be disproved by the details of how Petscop's recordings work. It's a lot, but if you read into it, it's pretty easy to realize that every single instance of things like this are 100% possible with how Petscop has been shown to operate with recordings, player perspectives, and Gens. AI doesn't really work at any point in Petscop after Petscop 19's info about recordings. 1:58:20 - It's a recording of Belle from the past having interacted with Paul's recorded movements. There are a myriad of possibilities via recordings that could explain how she came up with the correct movements to do afterwards. 2:04:15 - Directly after this DEMO, the weird movements are very clearly explained to have been Marvin having to try to navigate the bedroom while not actually being in it, as Paul immediately describes and demonstrates afterwards doing the same sort of "weird movements". 2:22:37 - This is *not* a censor. It's a blank textbox. It's blank because the game froze/crashed and the text didn't get to animate yet. The freeze is also why Paul swears at the end. 2:25:04 - The party hats are just a coincidence here. It's more generally meant to be anywhere the game didn't want the player to go yet, as further shown in Petscop 22. 2:33:00 - They're all numerous recordings from various rooms being played back in the house, which obviously might not make a lot of sense for those that aren't from the house. The dial helps select a certain recording to fixate on. No AI, just recordings. 2:38:52 - The entire deal with Lina is that her disappearance is heavily up to interpretation (including death) and being read into differently. The extra scene at the end of the soundtrack even presents the concept of it being more related to "being out of the loop with the family being fragmented" idea from the Paul-doesn't-know-about-Care stuff. 2:40:05 - This message is just the figurative meaning of "ship in a bottle", not much more to it; ships play by their own rules, self-contained and alone out on the sea, and ships in bottles reflect this by depicting the self-contained and isolated ship. A keyword is "depicting" - they are not counterparts, they do not magically link up to one another. It is a depiction, a representation. 2:44:40 - There is a single reference to artificial intelligence and it's a random mention in the middle of Paul speculating on what the game wants the player to think. There are no other references. 2:44:51 - As the AI theory is easily dismissed by the recordings system functionality, the attempt to connect Petscop to the concept of copying a player to replay them in game also doesn't make really any sense. It's just replaying the inputs of them playing the game before, which can be affected by the Gen that the game is currently in (P8/P20, P14, etc.), or what room the recording is forced to play in (Room Impulse). I feel that covering Petscop in a strictly chronological manner isn't a good idea if the goal is to make a digestible video on Petscop, due to the amount of things that seem paranormal or impossible or AI stuff earlier on, but are contextualized later to make more logical sense with most of it ending up being related to recordings. Overall this video is really good though, some of these things are a little nitpicky, but people can be pretty passionate about Petscop. Many focus on little details like these, especially because they're very important to interpretations of the story.
thank u so much for this as someone whos nitpicky and extremely passionate about petscop. i love this video but i fully agree its extremely difficult to make a cohesive analysis video because of the nature of the story, especially with it mostly being interpretation.
You are the greatest among us all. Thank you for the reference sheet. I didn't know a few things you pointed out, and learned something about a series I thought I knew 100%
I found strange how he reached the conclusion of it all being AI when the videos had been building up everything else. There's barely an acknowledgement of AI in the series yet that was the meaning of it all? The grand picture? I feel he lost the plot somewhere along the script but just went with it
I’m gonna be absolutely real with you, the recording system has me entirely confused, and I too thought it was some form of machine learning/generative ai. I actually despise it just a little. It would be incredibly easy to misinterpret that
I feel like Nexpo has experimented on UA-cam with who he is and how he edits in the past several years, and in this video I think he's really found his rhythm. Didn't feel drawn out or overdramatized. Has a mysterious vibe which I always preferred over strictly scary or disturbing content. Cycles between interesting and disturbing with some humor and downtime in places. Even outside of the game/topic of the video I'm just very pleased with how it's put together and edited.
it was overdramatized. It was too long. It could be better but it does not feel that way because it already is so good. It is like you eat at a very popular and well-rated restaurant and go 'wow, this food is incredible', but somewhere someone is making the same dish even better. It is possible to make it even better
Not the Newmaker story, that one ALWAYS breaks my heart. What absolute MONSTERS. I know they got away with minimal consequences, but I sincerely hope there is something despicable waiting for them. Im happy u kept Candace's story short because when game theory did it I remember it being a whole thing and it was honestly really disturbing hearing matpat read a bunch of the quotes dramatically
oh my god yeah and the worst part is that he made it seem like petscop was only about her story and didnt touch on any other aspects in the game until later theories (its been a long time since i watched that vid so im not entirely sure)
The ending question about being copied and would I feel bad if 'other me' was imprisoned reminds me of a Blackmirror episode. The one where a copy of someone was put into a machine to run the house but it was an exact copy, in an empty white room. She was trapped. When the "real" her told her copy to do things for her, obviously she refused. She's a person, not a slave. When she refused, "real" her, with no remorse, time skipped 1,000 years (may be wrong, just know it was long time) in the white room. While for the "real" girl, it was just a few seconds while she sipped her coffee, for the copy, it was years of nothing. Nobody to talk to. Nothing to do. Mind numbing boredom. Insanity inducing isolation. Just an empty white room, serving as a jail cell. Those years passed in seconds. Once the "real" girl stopped the time, the copy was haggard and on the brink of losing it. At that point she was willing to do anything for the "real" girl, as long as she didn't imprison her in that way again. So the copy ran the house, had everything prepared in the morning and so on. But she was still imprisoned. Watching that episode made me angry. How could she do that to herself? It's cruel. Would I feel bad? Of course. That's me.
The simpsons actually did a parody of this episode where Homer buys Marge an Alexa type device with a miniature Marge inside and marge makes her cook, clean the kitchen, and do all the work. The real Marge even uses the time skip feature like in the black mirror episode.
Well it’s not the girl manipulating time for the “copied girl” It’s the salesman, played by John Hamm. He’s the guy that flips the time to 1 week of nothing, then 6 months of nothing After the 6 months part, she’s absolutely ready to just do anything or be on the verge of absolutely crumbling and becoming like, “canon fodder for some war game” as he puts it. Yeah, where the other guy he’s telling these stories to actually happens to be a cookie, a “copy” of the one in jail to bring a confession? Called “White Christmas”-pretty horrifying episode Far as the “real woman” in that story-she undergoes the surgery-but we’re not really sure whether she fully comprehends the brutality of what she just signed up to do-it does portray her w/a face of complete apathy, so you can assume she “might know” & doesn’t care. But yeah it’s not her even talking to the “cookie” woman, it’s the salesman that works for the tech company Absolutely agree (Again for all that asked, episode is called White Christmas) Yes it’s a great reference to this Even think of Doki Doki Literature Club. No, Monika isn’t a “copy” of any of us-but gaining actual intelligence outside of her confined video game world-is she “really” the antagonist of the game? Or is it the madness of knowing “you’re f-ed, you’re just a video game Absolute existential horror
I still laugh at the commentary "Strangely, Paul claims 'That was an experience' which is an odd choice of words." Paul: That was an experience Nexpo: Fucking weirdo, who says that? It cracks me up for some reason
"The player then goes to the 'Care says goodbye' sound-file and plays it for *an entire fucking minute*." Absolutely cracked me up, such a sudden shift from the calm and dispassionate delivery of the rest of the video.

I'm glad petscop is getting recognition again. This whole series was so good with all the hidden meanings and stuff. Of course, I had to watch Pyro's video and read the comments to understand them all.
I am so excited to watch this. I was in pretty deep with the Petscop community, coming in from Nightmare Masterclass, and was in his livestream as Petscop dropped it's final episodes and watched them with him live. I remember reading through the reddit's compiled Petscop document, making my own notes, listening to the theories of different people, and trying to come to my own conclusions and always chasing after a satisfactory answer. I know better now that none exists, but the absolute heart-wrenching dread that made my chest ache when I was watching these alone is still present, as I watch this video, and I am very happy to hear your thoughts on this series after so long of no Petscop content. A terrific series, and thank you for letting me explore it again in this year.
Same, I was in that stream too! I still go back and watch the moment it dropped sometimes, that night was so fucking crazy!! I miss those months when I had the UA-cam bell on and all of a sudden I'd get a notification and I knew it was gonna be a fucking wild day. The series really does dread so, so well. It feels so expansive and mysterious, like there are still so many things Paul didn't get to. It really made a huge impact on me.
I've always dreamed of just doing a game like this, but it is so much work. More than people expect really. Art skills, coding skills, and creativity to start it all. I commend the creator of Petscop, also as someone who loves art forms to express the darker human condition. It isnt easy to capture the feeling of childhood trauma but petscop does it. The tones, liminal spaces, the names of the characters, they all play a part in the atmosphere beyond simple design.
I love how the sponsor segment has the saferoom music from RE1, because it's technically out of the "mansion" like in the game. It's a moment in the video without any mystery and eeriness, no darkness and suspense. Just a safe moment for a quick sponsor break. A saferoom.
I was so hooked to this series. I still feel unerved about it, even though the creator came out saying it was all just for fun / fake.... Something about it still feels very very real to me.
I feel the opposite. From the very start of this it screamed ARG and it has all the "ooo spoopy cursed ps1 game to play on nostalgia" vibes. It also has elements that I can tell wasn't designed to be ran on an actual ps1 console. I remember for awhile "cursed ps1 game" was a booming genre in indie games. But they always over play their hand. I'm 30 and grew up playing ps1 so that feeling of a game scaring you at 3am with only the glow from your crt TV lighting your room and everyone is asleep in the house really hits me in the feels. But I just don't feel like a developer has yet to make a realistic vision of what that feeling feels like to modern gamers.
@@the_original_Bilb_OnoAbsolutely. The first 10 minutes I could tell by the animations, sprites, and lighting was absolutely NOT A PS1 GAME. It was way too obvious, and frankly, I had no idea it was admitted to be faked until I read this comment. But I already knew it. It could be fun to pretend it's a real game to get lost in the story. But I think it's crazy that anyone genuinely thought this was real at all. There are so many elements that show it's not a ps1 game. Only people who never played PS1 games should think this is a PS1 game Edit* like people dont realize how little information could fit on a ps1 game. It's truly an incredible piece of work. I don't care that it wasn't completely PS1 accurate or whatever. It's a unique and very well made series (and everything was made by just one dude!) I was also super into following it as it was coming out. The night 16 came out, I barely slept! It had been months since the last upload and it would be months more until the next. Petscop continues to be a huge inspiration in my creative work and one of my favorite pieces of horror media ever.
2:22:40 I have a thought about what that censor could’ve been. Firstly, I think it was a text box. Secondly, this connects back to the other “caskets”(the censored items). One of the caskets was related to a chalkboard. It’s description is… “Five words. Written on a chalkboard, in the dirty building you inhabit.” (We later see that in petscop 23, this refers to a chalkboard in the school). I believe that those five words written on the chalkboard was a question central to petscop. *Do You Remember Being Born?* And I believe that that is what the censor was at the end of Petscop 14. The game asked him “Do you remember being born?”. and I think the reason why it unnerved him so much was because it was the moment he realized that Care was meant to represent him in the game. I believe this because we’ve seen this question in the Quitter’s room, more than likely being for Belle. And Belle, as we have assumed, is a victim of Marvin (and possibly Rainer) trying to rebirth her into Tiara. So, hear me out, according to Nexpo’s explanation, Care was never a real person. Care was meant to represent Paul. And that when Marvin and Anna had a child, it was a boy, who they named Paul. Marvin couldn’t stand this, and he tried to essentially force Paul to be like Lina, doing things like showing Paul his reflection in a flower vase and describing his “grisly deformities”, and possibly plucking his eyebrows. Now, the connection between Paul and Belle is that Belle was a victim of attempted rebirthing because she fought back against, and in Marvin’s eyes, she was a quitter. So like her, Paul was not what Marvin wanted him to be and thus, would also be seen as a quitter by Marvin. And So the censor in Petscop 14 asking Paul “Do You Remember Being Born?” unnerved him so much because it was the moment when everything clicked. The flower vase, the conversation care had with her mom paralleling a conversation he had with his mom, and finally, this question, first directed at Belle, is now directed at him, almost like the game is asking him if he remembers the abuse he suffered as a child. “Do you remember being born?”. Sorry for the long comment!
about halfway through the video i thought "wouldn't it be crazy if this video is only the first part?" and as soon as i saw the "to be continued" i literally laughed. so damn excited for more.
I think Petscop looks at how child abuse affects generations to come. This probably where the "rebirthing" or reliving their trauma comes from. In one way or another, that child will either learn or grow from their trauma, while others might repeat it. Either way, some victims that become parents might repeat their actions, or "rebirth" their childhood experiences through their own child. I could be wrong though, I just thought that since there is a heavy emphasis of AI and on how it acts similar to a child learning from their surroundings and the adults around them, hence why i said this
The aspect that made me fall in love with PETSCOP is that it pays tribute to when the secrets of video games were not ruined by the internet. It gives a nostalgic boost to the already retro art style.
@@shatteredscry the perfect balance of "could be fake, could be real" that fueled generational imagination. we've advanced too far to ever return to such a blissful ignorance.

Hi
I hear the Candace Newmaker story in every Petscop video, but it still makes me cry every time. The adults treated her so inhumanely.
@@Piiiiiiiiit That makes a lot more sense.
it is probably showing marvins custody of care
since its in green and the dates match up
starts off every other day then weekends only and then after he kidnaps her its all the time
omg as a CSA survivor by a family member for a long period of time i can def acknowledge which i’m sure you could too but hope this wasn’t your case but you’re totally right ): the whole story is pointing towards Marvin abusing her. to me it’s clearly SA or DV maybe both but clearly SA because even at the beginning it says Marvin is in the bathtub thinking of her. which is super creepy and odd idk i hate how i sense this is what’s happened but i also don’t want to believe it because it would be absolutely horrible and also because i wonder if it’s my own trauma always leading me to associate my abuse and always point towards SA but aye when in doubt it’s got to be for a reason. i don’t know seems like whoever made this game knew too much. really suspicious. also if this is the child that tragically passed away at therapy which that’s not even therapy that’s straight up devils work how disgusting for all those adults to witness that poor innocent beautiful babygirl going thru all of that and not helping her idk i cannot comprehend but an autopsy had to be done¿ and therefore check if any abuse happened prior to the day she passed. idk i have so many questions and im still at 1h48M
One thing you forgot to mention is that when the treadmill was set to -1 it meant that Care was loved, and that’s why in care’s description it said you lied in order to get her.

Little did World Championship Wrestling know their Nitro crew, includingPaul Heyman, kidnapped Amber during a session on April 19th of this year. Fans can attest to this fact by checking recent PPV results, Awn7mFktpB4
After watching this again, I noticed something potentially chilling in Rainer's note.
At the very end of the note he says: "Fuck you all, and fuck me as well. Merry Christmas. Check your bathroom now."
We all seem to assume he means the bathroom in game, because that's what Paul does.

Oh fuck this is way too relatable and i hate that as the victim in my scenario
That is why teaching children what good touch bad touch is and that people of the same sex as them can also abuse them and such. And what abuse even means so that these monsters can gets what is due.
That makes sense.
I’m the despised black sheep in my family because I don’t give a fuck, if someone is immensely shitty I’ll shout it
and they’ve never programmed me with that “keep secrets and present a perfect image” shit
Fuck that noise

You're not the only one
Yes, you are right. It wasn't a glitch

it would be such a dream to watch this kind of arg in a twitch live style. people in chat giving ideas as real time as the narrator continues to unravel it at the pace hes already decided. just imagine a two week period where everyone on the internet talked about Paul's petscop streams

That would certainly add an extra layer of complexity. 'Paul' as a character had to respond to scripted events. I really am impressed by his acting. Not overblown, like he's always aware it's just a game that can't hurt him, there's no "OMG NO STOP" or anything silly. And the framing where he never explains anything, except when he is thinking aloud, because it's not FOR us.
What I'm saying is, yes this would be insanely interesting. But this already had a lot of moving parts that are likely done through editing and not programming

Well damn
@@nemesis021 LMFAO
Fr i think he was a incestous pedo.
Eerily enough, there is actually a real story who married his own daughter and eventually killed her as well.

About your final point:
Compare it to Black Mirror's "White Christmas" episode.
The best episode imo

The quitter part is actually crazy. The programming required to make the mirror image copy you but not quite get it right would have to be extremely complicated.
Considering that it isn’t a real game that part could just be a cutscene entirely. Or it could just have a follow player/don’t follow player movement mode
@@rsh9032 who says it isn't a real game exactly?
@@MidRankedDeity From what I understand, it isn't. No playable version has been released despite it being several years since the videos were uploaded. Excluding fan made games of course. It would be much easier to make a basic walking sim in some free engine and have certain triggers set up for basic events, while also having cutscenes or animations for more complex movements. Sure, it could all be coded, but that would be a large time investment alongside recording, scripting, and editing these videos.
Mirroring in that era was also done on Bomberman Hero N64
But Lore wise the lettering is correct on left and reversed on players side
It's quite easy actually. Here's one way that it could be done :
The mirrored characters is a second player object with a different sprite.

The good ending:
a guy just catches all of the regular pets in the even care in 5 mins and then leaves and never plays it again
This is one of the better Petscop videos out there, that avoid many issues that others have. It's overall pretty decent. However, there are some problems, and in the interest of that Petscop watchers are often very susceptible to misinterpreting the series based on errors, I'd like to point out some rather crucial instances of errors, mistakes, and issues in this video:
7:13 - Doors will be a roadblock because the player character doesn't know how to open doors, as the textbox says.
1:57:12, 2:27:02 - See "PlayStation Link Cable" on Wikipedia
1:58:04 [and other times] - Virtually every "artificial intelligence" or "inhuman players" theory for Petscop of ANY sort can be disproved by the details of how Petscop's recordings work.

Agreed. It didn't feel like nearly three hours went by.
it was overdramatized. It was too long. It could be better but it does not feel that way because it already is so good. It is like you eat at a very popular and well-rated restaurant and go 'wow, this food is incredible', but somewhere someone is making the same dish even better. It is possible to make it even better
it does feel drawn out, though, with all the dramatic pauses

Of course. That's me.
which episode was that ?
What episode was that I’ve never heard of it
The simpsons actually did a parody of this episode where Homer buys Marge an Alexa type device with a miniature Marge inside and marge makes her cook, clean the kitchen, and do all the work. The real Marge even uses the time skip feature like in the black mirror episode.
That episode is called white christmas@@d1sasteroid
Well it’s not the girl manipulating time for the “copied girl”
It’s the salesman, played by John Hamm. He’s the guy that flips the time to 1 week of nothing, then 6 months of nothing
After the 6 months part, she’s absolutely ready to just do anything or be on the verge of absolutely crumbling and becoming like, “canon fodder for some war game” as he puts it.
Yeah, where the other guy he’s telling these stories to actually happens to be a cookie, a “copy” of the one in jail to bring a confession?
Called “White Christmas”-pretty horrifying episode
Far as the “real woman” in that story-she undergoes the surgery-but we’re not really sure whether she fully comprehends the brutality of what she just signed up to do-it does portray her w/a face of complete apathy, so you can assume she “might know” & doesn’t care.
But yeah it’s not her even talking to the “cookie” woman, it’s the salesman that works for the tech company
Absolutely agree
(Again for all that asked, episode is called White Christmas)
Yes it’s a great reference to this
Even think of Doki Doki Literature Club. No, Monika isn’t a “copy” of any of us-but gaining actual intelligence outside of her confined video game world-is she “really” the antagonist of the game? Or is it the madness of knowing “you’re f-ed, you’re just a video game
Absolute existential horror
I have so many more questions than I initially had. You’re a masterful story teller, Ryan and I hope to see more from this series in the future
I still laugh at the commentary
"Strangely, Paul claims 'That was an experience' which is an odd choice of words."
Paul: That was an experience
Nexpo: Fucking weirdo, who says that?
It cracks me up for some reason

I think its to support his theory that the footage is edited and dubbed. They potentially reused the same voice clip
"The player then goes to the 'Care says goodbye' sound-file and plays it for *an entire fucking minute*."
Absolutely cracked me up, such a sudden shift from the calm and dispassionate delivery of the rest of the video.

I'm glad petscop is getting recognition again. This whole series was so good with all the hidden meanings and stuff. Of course, I had to watch Pyro's video and read the comments to understand them all.
My heart stopped for a while after seeing the recommendation as I thought it was a Pyro video!
So this is what autism smells like...
Don't need to be good at coding... just need to be good at animation...
Game making is not as hard as some people think. But it is a lot of work.
Only people who never played PS1 games should think this is a PS1 game
Edit* like people dont realize how little information could fit on a ps1 game. For people to believe there was actually a game that had a character you could ask any question to is just insane. Clueless people
@@marthastewwartI'm glad I'm not the only one who can tell this isn't a ps1 game and it would never look and run like this on a PlayStation. I feel like younger people have a false idea of what ps1 style graphics are actually like.
@@marthastewwart
I mean MGS exists and I think it's what most people set as a standard for PS1 games even though it's not so kinda makes sense they'd believe petscop could be real
50:16 Paul‘s reactions are just such gold, I swear.
"That's a dead kid" will forever be the best reaction ever to anything.
He's the best lmfao
whenever I see petscop discussed it never fails to amaze me how much work and creativity had to go into its creation. it's art, truly.
2:22:40 I have a thought about what that censor could’ve been. Firstly, I think it was a text box.
Secondly, this connects back to the other “caskets”(the censored items). One of the caskets was related to a chalkboard.
It’s description is…
“Five words. Written on a chalkboard, in the dirty building you inhabit.” (We later see that in petscop 23, this refers to a chalkboard in the school).
I believe that those five words written on the chalkboard was a question central to petscop.
*Do You Remember Being Born?*
And I believe that that is what the censor was at the end of Petscop 14.
Love this theory
@@palmerscott23 thank you!
about halfway through the video i thought "wouldn't it be crazy if this video is only the first part?" and as soon as i saw the "to be continued" i literally laughed.
so damn excited for more.

Reminds me of when people thought The Blair Witch Project was real.
