I never played dnd and my only experience in it is through BG3 and my experience in playing Dark Elves are limited to Skyrim. Made my first char as a Drow without knowing anything, then I delved deeper into the lore and truly am fascinated by how much this one race is so unbelievably alien for the concept of an elf. TLDR made my backstory before playing the game and picked seldarine, played good until the very end of BG3 where my deceit rewarded me the most power. This video is exactly how I envisioned my character would've lived and the reason he is basically a psychopath sociopath lying maniac, love the video very much!!
You should also play Morrowind, Skyrim only depicts a small part of what the dark elf society is like (mostly in the Dragonborn DLC) but it's in Morrowind where you'll see that dark elves are too extremely alien (and unbelievably cool) in The Elder Scrolls universe.
Vendui and greetings, oh master of lore! Ambition is a great virtue for a male drow when kept in control, but having the breadth of vision to understand how best to utilize that ambition is no less a gift. It seems to me our hapless male, while he has a fine and noble goal to see himself seated at the highest tables and by the most comely companions, would be best served by disappearing into the darkness of the Masked God's faithful before his ruthless mistress achieves her ambitions, so he can maintain that all important veneer of mediocrity which is all important to the survival of males. He would find his long term prospects much improved among such company. You bring the drow to life. Great work.
This is the first of your videos I have stumbled across. Just now coming to the end and I gotta say that was one hell of an introduction. I look forward to bingeing your library.
WOW! That was so good. I thought for a moment it might have been the official text you were reading. Hearing at the end that you wrote this was so impressive! And the voice-acting, so good. So glad I stumbled across this channel!
Wow my guy. i came here to learn about drow for my players sake. Mildy to not interested, and you turned that completely arround. Yer truly a credit to the dnd community. Thanks man
Thank you for the amazing video. Just started playing DnD myself and have been reading the Drizzt series and have been absolutely fascinated with the drow society. So again, thank you for the amazing video
Was looking up information on my first dnd character who’s a dwarf. But turned sharply down this rabbit hole and so far I’m loving the race. I want to play as one eventually.
I love this format, this storytelling is so immersive and inspiring a great expedient to do an informative video like this instead of the traditional way New subscriber!
I think through the eyes of a wood or high elf would also be a very interesting point of view. Considering that we now got a glimpse of the evil side of things
I’m creating my own dnd world from scratch but the one pantheon that I wanted to keep was Lolth. Her story is so interesting. I’m playing with the concept of perception so the writings of the Drow about Lolth paint her as a victim of Corellon and Serhenine’s plan to destroy the dark elves. With Lolth being a sort of split personality that Araushnee develops to protect herself after being banished. And all of Lolth’s actions being attempts at protecting Araushnee’s children and people. Which would explain her changes in attitude as there are times Araushnee comes out and makes decisions that Lolth changes later 😅
Here is a list of good video ideas *Wererat* or any werecreature though rats are the most interesting. Litch/ Dracolitch Erinyes/ Fallen angel (what made him fall. What are his motivations. there's mention if a male beats a female there's a punishment so are men drow actually stronger but they just think they arent because woman drow hurt them if they show any sign of superiority over a female? OR is loth purposely making males weaker then females. loth reminds me of lillth the original wife to adam. also there is Eilistraee he should've heard her voice or is he too convinced that his only hope is his mistress consort there for she would've bother guiding him in his dreams?
At least on Toril it's been made pretty clear that male drow are shorter and weaker than their female peers. Not clear if that's directly the Spider Queen's doing but she def approves. However some males become excellent fighters (and for that matter mages) relying more on agility and skill instead of brute strength. So it's not unheard-of for a male drow to be victorious (probably doesn't hurt that the females tend to underestimate them) but that victory tends to have long term consequences... Although there's at least a few male controlled groups. A city that worships Lolth's son and a band of mercenaries that's secretly controlled by a shadow dragon with his half drow descendants (mostly men) taking leadership roles as well.
I never really bought that driders are seen as failings. Seems like a strange, inconsistency. Being part spider should be a great thing for a culture that worships spiders.
Everything Lolth and the matron mothers do is backwards. I know of some stories of drow actually being heroic and being turned drider as consequence. Also there are people that think Drizzt is somehow loved by Lolth because he's slain so many people/monsters which, in a way, brings about chaos.
Lolth's spider body is because she was cursed by Corellon. A drow who is so transformed is Lolth at the moment of her fall, not Lolth the Spider Queen. Plus Driders are incapable of reproducing so that's a big deal for a society fixated on gaining power through your family line
normally lore wise llolth drow believe in the reverse betrayal not Lloth betrayed Corellion, more the other elves betrayed them due to different reasons like jealousy or fear Dark Elves became the dominant Elves and Corellion feared for his Seat of Power etc. the rest of the pov is awesome for a Lloth male. Lloth twisted the story of why drow are in the underdark with her clergy the clergy even dont know the truth, and the legend differs fromi house to house/city to city depends on which city we talk about. I personally prefer to play Vhaeraun worshipper neutral evil Drow, since you can play more than Underdark Campaigns with such a character if male, without hard backstory mongering.

I would absolutely love a second part, maybe invite a guest speaker? Hearing the female version of through the eyes of a drow would be amazing.
Damn I low-key kinda feel bad for him, his life sounds like crazy
So drow are just goth mommy simps? Sign me up
Loth is abusive to her followers...
Her Daughter Eilistraee actually cares about her followers
Drows got me into D&D❤

Great video, my favourite way of understanding lore is through the eyes of the lore itself

Being nothing is not so bad. Better than being a Drow.
And being a drow isn't so bad, either. Better than being a bigot.
XD
Idk, being a drow seems like it wouldnt be too fun lol. But to be fair almost everyone has it pretty rough in the dnd world.

Hard to say, originally the lore was that females were stronger than males, but that's often forgotten.
At least on Toril it's been made pretty clear that male drow are shorter and weaker than their female peers. Not clear if that's directly the Spider Queen's doing but she def approves.

Wow! Excellent video!

Beautiful and thoughtful
And then, in the darkness, a floating purple mask approaches me...
Drow lore is better from the males' perspective, anyway. The priestesses are the definition of "cartoonishly evil" and a little bland for it.

i also suspect the reason female drow are physically stronger is because of some of changes lolth did towards the drow and not something natural
