A trick I always did when starting from scratch on an unknown engine (doesn't apply here you know Honda's obviously) is set the timing solid while I get the fuel smooth and close. For example i did a 1zz Celica on a megasquirt a few weeks ago and set timing to 10deg across-the-board until I got fuel clean and smooth. Then I made a super conservative generic timing map based off bore/stroke/number of valves/hp expectation/ best guess all in under vacuum ect.. Then I adjust from there while simultaneously cleaning up fuel..
Brent these videos are soooo useful. Built my engine and am running/diy tuning on a basemap using a WB and knock alert... No "tuner" near me will oldskool tune my 3sgte on a awd dyno. Its all about flashing maps. Love your channel man. Keep up the good work.

That was an education and I absorbed every damn second then Brent, thankyou so so so much for that. I actually knew a great AFR was 12.0 for boosted cars and 13.0 for N/A cars so I'm lucky I've got a few steps of knowledge on this but my tuning was taught via carbies and everything was guesswork back then. Does it flood the float bowl? Yes? Turn it down. 😂🤣 I'm trying to learn about the right turbo to understand more about A/R. For example, how much volume causes choke points on smaller housing turbos vs how much volume I need to spool up my turbo quicker. 😈 Still have to send that email, I haven't forgotten, just not a this minute urgent thing. 👍 Much love all of you at the shop and please pass this message on boss if you can. 🙏 *Roman, put a damn nut on that steering wheel, we don't want you winning a Darwin award!!* 😉👍
MafiaboysWorld the right a/f Will be different with different engines, gas and boost. 12.0 wont work on 40psi. The funny part is that between 11.3-13.5. The hp is nearly exact the same! So go on the richer side, when it fully tuned and on max boost, than you can lean it out to like 11,6 se if it picks up power and read for knock, if its not than run it rich. But for small boost 2-14psi does 12.0 work. But nothing is set in stone, learn the basics and tune right from start :) Hpa academy or jeff evans tuning is the right Place to be
@@knegoo Exactly bro, already been watching a lot of HP Academy, especially for the wiring tutorials. 👍 I totally agree with your comments regarding 40psi. That's just the obvious of more air needing more fuel and I'm used to running stock boost levels on my cars and not going overkill. Also, types of fuels play a huge part in what the ratio is. Like I'm obviously looking at premium pump fuel here but if I ran 12.0 AFR with E85, I'd be blowing that puppy up faster than saying "it leaned out". 😉 Remember, I already have the basic grasp from back in the day but carbies didn't like turbo boost. 😂🤣 So I'm learning a lot of stuff like translating what the old CFM for carbs are then to what cc's for injectors are now and relearning different jargen to back then but a lot of it is me needing refreshing on current tech and being taught that stuff rather than starting back at tuning 101. 👍
Definitely gave me a bit more confidence with my knock hunting on my RSX. Hondata basemap likes to tell knock knock jokes on my car. Watched this, and just started backing timing down 2* at a time for the areas it was hitting on the graph. Please make more 'easy' tuning videos like this.
Hey brent you should go in depth sometime about what all you can do with kpro, for na and turbo, like the rev limits, closed loop etc, when I do launch control on my ep3 it seems like it is slow when it is holding ther revs, love the videos man I would just love to learn more about the software in my car. I have kprov4 in my ep3 and I'm not to tuner brainy had it tuned before but I would still like to know more about it just to have that knowledge in my head! Thanks brother

So I'm learning a lot of stuff like translating what the old CFM for carbs are then to what cc's for injectors are now and relearning different jargen to back then but a lot of it is me needing refreshing on current tech and being taught that stuff rather than starting back at tuning 101. 👍
Thanks Brent!! This helps me !!!
Plz keep doing vids like this. So awesome to get tips and advice from a pro
Seems simple if everything is working perfectly but the truth is that theres alot to mess up without a guy like Brent who can do it in his sleep.
Bro that little shift he did at the beginning with the distributor. I didn’t know you can do that to help check timing
Awesome walk-through. Do more like this so we learn a lil something... Love the Bahamas flag sticker. 🇧🇸🇧🇸
He really got this thing dialed in with only a few pulls. Legend 👌🏾 haha
Awesome video I've never been so excited to make 192 horsepower
Damn, Brent just knows what the timing should be. It would be interesting to watch the timing being tuned with MBT and knock detection
More of this please!!
Got damn just ran out a gas on the interstate at 3 in the mornin, good time to watch some Pfi.
chevy good luck
@@kangarojack3814 insurance company showed up with some gas 30 min later👌
its cool that you took your time to do this to teach us
