- We show you how to set ignition timing using a Hondata S300. Setting ignition timing should always be the first step to tuning your car before you start making pulls. If your ignition timing is not synced, you could cause catastrophic engine damage.
Man I really respect Alex. Thank you for always imparting information on your viewers. Many of us go to our tuners and they never really explain things for their own personal reasons. Since subscribing to this channel I've learned so much. Love the work, love the content 💪🏾
Brian well said
Brian Alex is awesome thank you very much for sharing mate !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
Really helpful video, these guys are first rate. Timed my D16 today and HTS also has ignition lock. Y7 block and head stock valvetrain and 12 BTDC has the distributor all the way towards the firewall. I did have the block decked and head milled. There's alot of debate about using the OBD1 camgear on the Y series when running an OBD1 ECU. I just set base timing at 12 and send it. Any other corrections can be made in the ignition map since the mechanical timing is correct for the engine at least that's my philosophy on it .
So for hondata s300 you don’t need to to jumper the connector by glove box for ignition timing like stock ecu .
Is it worth it to tune your car for MPG ? Is that even a thing ?
Yes it’s a thing. Comes down to personal preference
I like this I Wana see more videos of Alex an how to do stuff
Alex Alex Alex!!!
MORE MORE MORE!!!!!!!!!!!
Great explanation thanks Alex . Can you please cover ignition tuning for kpro in future vids?!
yes more kpro tuning
@@freddygeez4646 - Yes please K pro ignition timing would help a lot.
Humble Performance deserves so many more subs awesome jobs guys keep them coming !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
Awesome vid - thanks for breaking it down into layman’s terms. It’s like being taught by your own dad 😂

So in regards to timing a D16Y8 with S300, would you simply sync it to 12* instead of 16* using the same procedure?
Great video but could have been better with your signature intro. Love that intro.
That's some Humble information right there. Thanks Alex and Kenny for the video.
Good info. Keep up the good work
Thank You!
I've been wanting to learn what the tuners were doing when they "synched " the timing and they never explain.
The cam thing is good even if it does have covers, on an LSvtec for instance....my cover is from a gsr to match my oil pump, and the mark is off...I scribed one when setting the static timing on t belt installation during build, but it's harder to see...I like the cam trick.
But I bought a manual timing light, I see now how handy that dial is!
where is the intro? i love it ahahah. Nice video. This information is gold for honda beginner.
So I’m going d16z6 ,delta 272 cam ,skunk 2 alpha springs ,titanium caps ,stock valves ,ported head ,victara 75 mm piston, long no notch rods ,king bearing ,stock crank bearing t3/t4 rev 9 turbo ,speed factory timing gear ,speed factory 4 bar ,Hondata s300 ,arp head studs running on pump gas what’s a good boost level and how much power you think I’m looking at ? I also got hunter 1000 cc injectors and hunter tune 450 pump z6 intake and fuel rail
Ok so let me get this striaght..if i lock ignition at 16.5 on laptop, and timing gun on cam gears line them up tdc i am synced?? I dont have any buttons on my timing gun.
I would like to know this answer too cause I’m dealing with the same issue stock b16 hondata says it’s almost 40 degrees advanced and my light is flashing correct I also don’t have a dial back light is that nessacary for this??
@@WinnerTowing im saving for a better light lol dam oriellys one throws me off.

I really love your videos I watch them all the time. You guy have help me so much. Keep posting information videos like this one please. You will get mi like every single time. 👍👨🔧
Great video!! Oem or cop!
It's also important to have the engine at operating temperature to avoid any ECT correction (warmup strategy).
Once you put it into timing mode, none of that matters...
Since the motor is at 14°...can't you put the setting on the hondata at 14° so they can match?
Right?
Humble Performance ROCKS !!! Thanks for sharing Alex !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you 👍
Good to know!! Thanks for the video! Gonna go double check mine right now.
mechanical timing off a tooth?
Do modern cars with no distributed have a way to adjust timing ? Or is it all digitally performed with ecu tuning? If so , is that beneficial?
Good video, I can't stress enough on the importance of base and ignition timing
why cant you just set it at 14 on the smanager and use the ecu to move it back to 16?
You technically can only do that with distributor-less engines like a k series. The ecu is seeing what the distributor position is and goes with that. Hondata is only going with what settings the user puts in which will be off
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 💪💪💪💪
Learned something new today! Thank you HP!
thank you very much
Love the videos!
Very informative, keep up the good work.
love these videos learn so much thanks man
Great info Alex..!!!!
Thanks, good video.
So is 16 degrees the middle line on the crank pulley?
Yes
Dont be afraid to take a drill bit to the dizzy slots so it can slide 2 more degrees. Some are cut short. Some its in the sensors
Ticking time bomb like that😂😂😂😂😂
@@enhancedphysique6452 definitely not, if you know how to time and tune.
i got a b18c1 high compresion 13.0 i wil get it in to the car this month so i can set the timing to 16
So crank mark and cams gear mark have to line up with the timing light at same time I check my car b20z block b16 head I line up crank with the light but the cams it's off what I can do or this it's normal?
Awesome video
I have a random code but it doesn’t show up. Its a s300 v3 in a p75 . :/ knock sensor is off, any other sensors That the obd2 has that the obd1 ecu cant find so throws phantom code?
Good shit.
On a OBD2 Honda will the stock OBD2 distributor work with a OBD1 ecu ? Will the timing have to be adjusted to 16 degrees?
Why when you put timing gun on pulley it was 10 degrees and on cam gears 4 degree . That where I got lost but I understand the rest was the dizzy slightly moved in between when you checked the pully and cam gears after. You have to get a timing light that tells the degree to see if timing might be slightly like in this case by two degree. I have a timing gun with no digital info on degrees just a light bulb flashing
Hi I just had my H23A converted to coil on plus, do I have to do the same procedure or is it different?
Can you be better explain the process? When using the crank pulley you can set the timing light to 0 degrees and the tdc mark should align with the timing cover. You then set your timing light to 16 for example and them move the distributor until you align the tdc line again. You are then 16 degrees past tdc. How does this process work when using the cams as a reference?
Stupid question, but if i have 16 degrees in hondata, do i set my timing light to 16 degrees too, or match it with timing light beeing at 0 degrees?
Did you make the video for the top part my doesn't have the bottom cover my luck
Yup he could trim the dizzy and be good, but why not just charge the customer
Awesome of Alex and the guys at HUMBLE to share some knowledge. Can you share some knowledge on K20s!
if you modify the base timing setting in the ECU, would i need to get it remapped again or is it a case of entering the new value?
Ok so what if you set ignition timing at 16° on stock ecu then get a chipped ecu and recheck ignition timing and it's off do you adjust it ????
Good video. In the s300, you should be able to just sync the base timing to 14 deg, then compensate from there in the ignition map.
Very good video. I enjoyed watching Bruce Lee sharing his knowledge. Thank you.
. hubble i need some help What section to change from rising to falling edge ignitor as my car is equipped with a falling type and not the oem honda which is rising type.
If you have bigger cams like pro 1's do you get the idle corrected first then set ignition timing or the other way around?
Maybe to do course or training how to tune in the dyno ? I’m in to learn from you Alex
Its hard to believe i found your map for h22 on the forum 3 years ago. It was an amazing basemap its cool to see how you do it.
another great informational vid what's the website for the tech videos?
Buenas colegas! Como puedo ver ese vídeo en Español es muy importante lo que Álex está explicando ay
What timing light you are using brand and part number
Hondata doesnt let you apply the timing offset on the software?
Would you guys ever consider teaching how to tune?
What marks is he talking about lining up? When hes shining that light
Love your clips men so much info
Are these steps the same using an ati race damper
whats all that distraction in tha back ???????????????insructions and distractions AWESOME......

Good how to video. Keep up the great content. Thanks
You guys dont have any info on k pro
Is this step taken when using Ktuner as well?
Scotty Roth k series don’t use distributors. So I don’t believe this step is needed. As long as your physical timing is correct you should be golden. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong)
Rule of thumb, if it has a distributor, base timing should always be set before tuning. That is on any engine regardless of manufacturer.
It would need a wire between the coil and plug so you can see when the signal is sent. So yes you can lock the timing and check.
@@PRZJ91 i believe you are correct sir. I was also wondering about ignition timing on K series.
What timing gun are you using in this video
I paid 30$ for a basemap from HA motorsport and uploaded it Bc I added bigger injectors and now my car is like sputtering at idle. What would cause that? And how can I get it drive able to make it to the dyno.
Get the car tuned
Good stuff as always. Look forward to see more videos like this.
Solid! -Thank You.
Is this common with d series. I sgree with orielly distrinutor im finding that im maxing the advance on the distributor but man the car responds so much better.
On a stock ECU your just advancing the ignition so on WOT it will feel faster and alittle slower off throttle. This is more when your tuning a car or do a fresh rebuild to know where your starting at.
Best video ever! Need more tutorials like this!
Great knowledge and info.
I wanna learn how to tune on Hondata.
I can learn in thailand.
Very informative! Good info here.
Patreon seen this first❤️
Can u guys make a video on how to calibrate tbs and map sensor on hondata s300 I need some help
Map should be preloaded in the drop down bar on the MAP tab. To calibrate the tps you can set by volage with a meter or in the data logger .51 closed and 5v WOT. Im 95% sure on those numbers. you just loosen the two nuts in the back of the TPS and move it till it reads right. If its OEM and never been touched it will be fine. Or you can go in the app and set the TPS manually under the TPS tab just need to set it off throttle then full throttle its just a few clicks. Crome will corrupt if you set TPS in the ECU so you need to set the TPS correctly.
is it necessary to jump the little brown harness plug when you do this?
no the S300 takes care of it
do you e-tune?
Very nice !!
Nice
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
👊😎
How about instead of clicking OK on 16 click 14 then it could be closer to being correct ent
The timing would shift.
The distributor can only move between a certain threshold of degrees relative to what the car is demanding.
So if the car is demanding 16* and the distributor can only advance to 14*, when you try to lock it at 14* the distributor can only advance to 12*.
Doesn't work like that. If the distributor is set to 14* then it will always be 2* off in Hondata.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
What if the cam gears are off 1/2 a tooth off
Just get it as close as you can and set it.
Does this apply to Kpro?
No
Most of the time for me it's all the way advance on the distributor
Well then all the ignition tuning in Hondata will be off by a lot and will make shit power.
Unless you have that ignition timing synched with Hondata all your tune will be off by a lot.
🐐
What if you locked the timing on the computer to 14° to match with the mechanical side
The timing would shift.
The distributor can only move between a certain threshold of degrees relative to what the car is demanding.
So if the car is demanding 16* and the distributor can only advance to 14*, when you try to lock it at 14* the distributor can only advance to 12*.
@@humbleperformance im interested in you training me how to tune how much would you charge me
Damn this question asked like a million times already.
I wanted to know how coil on plug affects the timing?
It doesn't affect anything. It's the same process.
@@humbleperformance how can it be same process if there is no distributor? That doesn't work...
@@AnonX-jk3zu it’s the same thing fool
So I was checking the timing with a light, and it was a few degrees off. So I put a wrench on to that bolt like he did, but I did it on the cam gear not the distributor. I put the wrench on while the motor was running and it seized the cam on the intake side. My gear looks all bent, and I can't turn it with the ratchet anymore. Engine won't start, is it possible I bend a valve?
LoL im sorry but wtf where you thinking?
Bullshit
Never ever play with a firearm around anyone. I can only imagine what you would do with it..
Just read this wild comment. Wtf were you thinking my guy? The cam gears and cam are spinning. 😂
i was able to time my all motor gsr build perfectly to 16 degrees by watching this. Thanks Alex
I watched a video of someone changing a tire. Now I can change a tire😂😂😂 Delete your comment.
Well said!!! Do a k series chassis next!!
