it also explains to me why my 12 year old self was always broke - i never thought the blue or yellows were anything but vendor trash 100% of the time, and i could never sell off anything cause i was always trying to ask for too much or sell things no one wanted.
If possible, I'd recommend a video where you explain in some more detail what you mean by "has value". As someone who has played this game forever I fully understand what you mean, and it's all true within the specific context you're discussing, but I'm seeing a whole lot of new and returning people in the comments who are getting depressed or even turned off completely by all the "no value no value no value", because they're conflating "people seeking their endgame best in slot gear won't trade high runes for this item" with "this item is totally useless in gameplay". There's definitely truth to the idea that high end runewords beat out nearly every other item, and that is a fundamental problem with the game itself. And Spirit sword is particularly broken, given its low cost (at least the shield makes you wait until Hell and has a STR tradeoff, I guess). But there are plenty of people who just want to play through this game casually (or even solo self found like me) and really shouldn't be getting anxious about Enigma or Grief being so overpowered. Because, let's just be real, unless you're really big on playing the trading game, you may never see them. I've played on and off for two decades, but because it's all solo self found, I've never dropped certain runes, let alone enough of them to deck out multiple characters with the big runewords. What I'm trying to say is there's myriad ways to enjoy this game at a hell-viable level without having the most broken runewords equipped on all of your characters. I know I have a solo self found mindset (just buying/trading for an item rather than finding it doesn't excite me), but there's a lot of middle ground between "exclusively offline ssf" and "if I don't trade for a perfect Grief my melee characters have no value" and I see a lot of people in the comments reacting like that middle ground doesn't exist, which seems bad for the community and the game.
Also, I wonder how much of the new player angst comes from a D3 mindset. In that game (which I've played lots of, so I'm not a hater) the endgame is the only game, and you are required to have specific items/sets for a build to even work whatsoever. Therefore, the drop rates are tuned so high that you get everything with very little time investment. In D2, drop rates are vastly, vastly lower, but that's not game-breaking because to don't *need* Fathom/Arachs/Spirit to run an endgame-viable Blizz sorc, and you don't *need* dual Dream to run an endgame viable Holy Shock paladin. Those will make those builds better, yes, but they aren't a baseline requirement like the pre-defined gear of D3 sets. D3 builds *start* with getting your best in slot gear, while D2 builds work without any of it, and the pursuit of those items is itself the gameplay objective. It's really important for people to realize that distinction.
the tl;dr version is... "should i keep it JUST for trading (even though i'm not going to use it)". i keep a LOT of 'trash' because i plan to level up a ton of characters... so i'm always like "ooh, this rare will help my druid eventually~" etc. but it's not actually a "good" item, in that no one would pay for it for trading.
value is determined by what people are wanting. if you can find a buyer for cathans set then cathans set "has value"... but llama is generally meaning it has the stats experienced players want for their builds
Great series. Hope alot of people see this cuz right now all trade channels are full of people thinking they can get a Ber for garbage. Big thumbs up!!!
@@simonclarke8098 yeah the prices are a bit underrated. I’m refering to the people that think garbage has value. No matter the time in season stuff like crossbows will be garbage but people think all unique items are speciell. Someone wanted a Jah for a Blessed Hand etc.
What I took from watching alls of these: Death's Web is actually pretty cheap and attainable in spite of it being the second more rare drop in the game and it being utterly and absurdly overpowered.
@@Stavroization super late, but arach is BiS for most casters without already gg gear. You get 70fcr from dual spirits, 20 from gloves, 10 from a ring, and 20 from arach hits your 120 which is last breakpoint reasonably attainable for teleport. Plus you get a skill out of it. 20fcr ammys and circlets are a lot harder to obtain. Viper is maybe better on a sorc but nigma takes chest for Every one else so they need to make up the fcr. Shako is helm, maras is ammy, 1 ring and boots for res +whatever else you need.
@@zalcal831 I disagree, there's no unique amulet that has anywhere close to that amount of MF, and it's equivalent to Mara's for resist. It's niche that someone would actually want to use it, but it certainly has the value. That being said, I definitely wouldn't hold out expecting to get more than a Vex, it's rare to find someone who actually wants to use it
Llama got a question since I'm getting some conflicting info: 19 all res 1 to paladin skills 10 life ring level 31. What is the value of a ring like that.
As far as boots go, I personally think that rares greatly outshine the vast majority of uniques. The problem is that you can get a good pair, generally quite early by just gambling. And even if you don't get anything great in particular, you can just save up the magic ones for crafting. Blood crafted boots are really good for the extra life and lifesteal if you're a melee character. It's a similar case with Gloves. Generally, 3 to jav/spear gloves with 20IAS magic gloves are going to be very tight for any Javazon and can be worth quite a bit. But on the other hand, Cold/Fire Bowazons are rare, so + to Bow/Crossbow skills isn't going to be sought after as much. And even if they are, Bowazons in general much prefer Hitpower crafted gloves for the knockback. Unlike Rares, which you can gamble for, crafted items require a lot more scavenging. As MrLiama mentioned, 40 perfect gems usually go for around a Pul-Um rune, and it's not guaranteed that you'll actually get a good drop after 40 attempts. Combined with the hassle of finding jewels, and yea, a lot of people don't want to deal with that. So if you manage to get a good roll on them, they can fetch a pretty penny
Watched the whole thing at work today, only items that you left out were the key sets and organs, and the essences/tokens. Anyways solid content, keep it up
Interesting thanks! I do have a couple questions however. 1. What kind of +skills (specific skills) would I look for in a socketed assassin weapon, or Necro Offhand, or whatever, for a white/superior/grey version? Are any specifically valueable? Would a +3 Bone spear normal wand have extra value to a bone necro? (I have one for MY necro, but I found another.) 2. Is there anything cool you can do with Sorc orbs? I don't really see any runewords that work in them (which is lame tbh, WTB Leaf in an orb). Just vendor em?
+3 traps for assassin weapon might be a little valuable, but probably nothing else. For necro shields, it's probably not that valuable unless you get a magic/rare one with +2 to all necro skills & +3 bone spear. For sorc orbs, no runewords are possible, but a magic/rare orb with +2 to all sorc skills, FCR, & +3 blizzard or +3 to frozen orb would be semi valuable.
thank you so much for putting all of this together and helping people try and get into the trading market! I had planned on writing up an excel sheet for each relevant item and its estimated market value, but as others have stated, very few things can fetch more than a Lem or so, meaning it would take a considerable number of trades to get the highest runes needed for endgame runewords. Is this the path most people take, or is just high-mf farming luck seemingly a faster route than trading?
The easiest way to get rich imo is to start farming hell asap at reset. Mf with super budget gear. Sell anything of value for the first 2-3 weeks on jsp, by that stage you should have several hrs worth of fg and prices on everything would have dropped and you can buy anything you sold at that time for a small fraction of what you sold it for. ie. If you found occy day 1, that would have sold for 3000-4000fg. Today is worth about 500fg (gul rune) but today you can get a ber rune for 4000. So if you did that you effectively turned a relatively common item like occy into a ber rune in a week with no additional effort. A lot of the trading early on is understanding how the market generally changes as llama explains in another video.
@@Stavroization thank you for this! I was worried about using the site due to RMT, but if enough fg can be earned in-game to make it feasible then I'll definitely take a look. much appreciated ^^
@@Touyakun2 yeah, I've been using it since 2006. Most people don't spend real money. I've never spent any money there. It's just a much easier method of trading. With a universal currency, you don't need to worry about having the exact item to trade to someone for something you need. Cooley does a great video talking about it
iratha's set does have some value in classic due to the + 10 max res. sigons is usually highly sought after for low level characters. not worth much, but many people would trade for it. m'avina's diadem is popular for a cheap archer helm due to the 30 ias on a helm.
Im surprised the arctic belt and chest have no value since they’ll net you 50% magic find at level 2 with very low str requirement. Kind of the same for the full Angelic set as it can carry you to at least act 3 in nightmare on a new character and gives 90% magic find
Basically why I play self-found. Nothing has a real value except HRs, uniques which enable certain builds (like griffons), and "some" rares. If I found a Jah, there seems to be nothing worth of trading it for, but hell there are a lot of items I wish I would have.
Can you do an explanation on PvP magic pally shields? I'm not sure what's considered good %ed or increased block chance.. rate. I have a few targes, sacred targes, crown shields I'm sitting on. One lvl 3 4 os 44 all res and I think 9% enhanced defence. Few akaran/sacred targes 4os increased block and enhanced damage all 45+% and +100 attack rating. These worth much? No idea how I'd sell em
Mrllama i have a barb rare helm (also gorgeous red) that has +2 barb skills, +1 masteries, +3 battle orders, 65 life, 4% chance to cast nova, 2 sockets. I think this helm its very valuable cause it gor 2 sockets and is a +5 bo helm. Do you think its better than arreat face to use not only as bo helm but as helm to wear all the time? in that case, what would you put in the sockets ? i compare it with arreat and arreat has that dexterity buff sure but i think this helms gives the life and can add much more dps with the 2 sockets.
Honest question, once you have a character decked out in all the best stuff, what is your end game personal goal? Holy grail? Just thinking once I get a character fully geared what kinds of personal goals/activities are there to keep me busy in D2? (aside from the obvious of getting all classes geared, etc.), is there something other than the Holy Grail that keeps people cranking away for 2 decades? I love this game, but I've always been an on again off again due to feeling like I ran out of objectives in the end game until a new ladder drops. I'd love to learn more about the depth of the game beyond just getting to the point where you can farm ubers/Hell Baal with little effort. After watching this and learning how little value 90% of uniques and sets have, my little stash of treasures feels so much less special lol
Challenge, from a old d2 not ressurected offline only players 8 sp game with plugY. All classes, nearly all skills are viable, just more or less gear dependent. IE summoning necro is viable through hell naked, summon druid is hell viable with massive stacked auras from rare rws, a ton of plus skills gear and HoW over oak sage, killing baal takes forever but it's doable. Also most sets and uniques are totally viable in the process of leveling on certain characters. Maybe only for a level or so but it's there. I am still going through doing weird stuff with many things I have never done. Thinking a singer next, cause I do not play barbs often.
After looking the 4 parts videos so far, as a slightly over casual player, I still can't fathom the idea of getting a Ber/Jah in hand outside of dropping it. Virtually no items outside are worth that much and only a select few are worth around Vex. How players get into getting those runs beside dropping it naturally? Trading items worth Um-Mal slowly into a Ber/Jah? I never was close of getting that rune to make the great Runewords and I wonder how I'll ever get there. Those videos aren't giving me optimism. Any insight on how it's done during a ladder?
It's about target farming items during different phases of a launch/ladder. White Bases the first 2 days are where all the value is. You can farm Meph on a sorc and hope for a shako, but you can literally farm a few white monarchs in pits the first day and trade for a shako 100% with-in a few hours. At day 3-5, it's all about Key farming for torches. An Unid torch at day 3 sells for like 2 HR.
You can farm key sets for the ubers, or if strong enough you can farm the organs themselves to do ubers. You can also sell respec tokens or pgems. Rushing people for Hell forges can get up to a Gul rune. Those are things that are more consistent to farm than hoping some amazing unique drops. Or just level a sorc and farm meph day and night- he can drop shako/arachs/occulus/tal rashas. If you are skilled enough making a Pally Smiter early and getting torches to sell can make you rich really quickly.
Hey everyone, He does not Cover one important question. How do i find people to Trade with. Just create a game with a good title or should i go go some Homepage? Which one is good ?
People are always saying how good the loot system is in this game but i disagree, I feel like 99.9% of the drops are worth nothing and are useless. It's like its not worth picking anything up. Plus its so easy to get basic runewords like stealth/ancient's pledge/spirit
I somewhat agree. I think blizz totally threw off the balance of the game when they introduced all those OP runewords. BUT there are a lot of very good uniques that are useful for your character. Just because you can't trade it to someone doesn't mean it's not worth picking up and using.
Well you're wrong because 99.9% isn't useless. Even pgems have value and low runes for cube recipes. Many of those runewords you listed are only for leveling and are quite bad in hell - except spirit. This is why people even have multiple accounts to help store everything - if 99.9% was useless then we wouldn't even need mules.
I collected the full Sigons set for the whole reason to give it away to somebody. Once I had all pieces, one lobby opened called "N Sigons set" I gave it away and the guy was so happy :)
Artic belt, gloves and chest is super nice for leveling and combined that with angelic neck and ring Rather solid for starting out, if your are a melee char throw on the angelic saber and you get a super fast hitting weapon with okay stats. Not omg good but okay !
Donrt sleep on cathans amu and rings. With 2 rings and amu u get 10+10 strength and 6+6 lifesteal. Combine that with the strength and lifesteal of sigion and death you will have town of survivability until you hit lvl 25. U can go into a p8 game and solo for epic xp.
Some of the PvP gear value is absolutely insane. These are usually items that are completely useless for any player that plays the regular game, but these blue items like JMoD or +6/40s are absolutely dumb. That really shows that PvP is something that you only get into when you have played the regular game so much, that RW or Uniques just don't have value anymore, so you go out and get a blue shield for 300 Ist Runes, so you can put 4 perfect light-RBF in them that are also worth a BER-rune each. Fun.
Lol Ive never really thought on this a lot but runewords literally killed 90% of uniques and set items. I remember when like Windforce, Stormshield, Grandfather sword, Gris armor on merc (If i remember right), Skullders Ire - these items were GOD tier and thats just naming a few. Like if you found any of those youd dookie your pants. Now they are just very hard to find cheapies. The y can be good placeholders but not going for runewords doesnt make sense they are way over powered. Even low runewords like spirit, stealth, Lore, Insight on Merc - insanely powerful. Ive never really considered this a bad thing necessarily, finding bases and runes is still fun, just different
Runewords didnt kill them! The runes needed are more rare than the uniques. Its chinese farmers and bots farming runes that hurt the game. So we go back to sorceress is the only teleporting character in the game. And you're not going to be seeing an enigma...
Not enough LOVE for Cow Kings Booties! Amazing footwear at lvl 13... +20Dex Fire Damage Run/walk and MF these boots make lvln and Mfn go hand in hand and they rock! And they have real value to those that know from lvl 13-42(B4 Travs/Riders) they are best in slot!
ahm wow, I was rly sad at the end, cause yeah I won't dig so deep in the game personally, but I share your passion for this game and would love to listen if you tell about the f'd up stuff. thx and love
Always keep on the lookout for FoH sticks. They're super niche and hardly anyone will buy them, but they're incredibly rare and I expect someone who wants it to pay out the nose.
@@Stavroization Yes but equipping 3 piece of angelics gives +50 mf set bonus to ring too. so can have +100 with two. and +1 skill with amulet. you just have to sacriface armor or weapon slot for the bonus.
HELP. Hey friends, on my second cow run I got a Jah rune drop. Now the problem is I don't know what to do with it. My friends tells me to keep it but I am considering getting some gear for it. My frozen orb sorc is clearing cows very slowly, I have only lore helm and spirit sword. So I don't think I will get any other high runes to be able to make a good rune word but I could definetly get some gear for that Jah to be able to clear content faster. Please advice
Not even close. If you wait, eventually the price will come down where you could trade for an ist. Current price is somewhere around vex+mal to vex+gul.
Probably not cause most people use Nagelring for MF. A blue ring with FCR can only get a max of 15% MF, whereas a Nagelring can get up to 30% MF. I believe a rare ring though can get up to 25% MF, so if it has other good mods like FCR, resistances, life, etc. then it might be worth something.
I've watching your latest videos, and for old values are ok. My concept of values are quite the same, but today everyone is making Uber bosses instead looking for items, there is no bots working as it used to be, so today not is a offer/demand thing, if the people is not finding more items, or if this people is not creating such characters to use those items, some of them will be really valuable while others can be worth anything.
My biggest question from this video is how the fk do we trade for ber and jah rune if they are so expensive? Do we just overpay and trade like 20 um runes for each one?
18:50 I did drop a 4 socket monarch with 17% FHR this weak. Still very good, and my first 4 socket blue monarch with an other mod on it. I'm happy with it. :)
Oh and for the IK armor price is a lil off on that one people asking for you’re whole arm and half your leg for it 😂 but for real people been asking tals armor for it
Just because people aren't willing to trade for them doesn't mean they aren't useful for your character. I would be ecstatic to have a full Nat's set that can make an amazing Assassin that can solo any part of hell.
Im new to D2, and have been watching your vids almost every night. Thanks so much for all the help!

Death's Web is actually pretty cheap and attainable in spite of it being the second more rare drop in the game and it being utterly and absurdly overpowered.
You mean arachnid mesh?
@@lassehl4349 Arach isn't overly rare because it can be found on hell meph and the drop rate isnt that outrageous either compared to the TC87 uniques
@@JustinYummy it's also not overly powerful. Unless you're trying to hit some really high fcr breakpoint, there are more useful options.
Thats because anything under 40% is cheap. But a perfect 50%? Lol. Maybe 10 HR'S at least. 2nd most rare just became THEE most rare item in game...
Ive gotten vex+ offers already for a magic amulet i found with 30 res and 35 magic find :D
Take it, they are way overpaying
@@zalcal831 I disagree, there's no unique amulet that has anywhere close to that amount of MF, and it's equivalent to Mara's for resist. It's niche that someone would actually want to use it, but it certainly has the value. @@elunegracee I wish it was only a fal rune.
@@youbekay What was it? The orphans call Helm?
@@elunegracee imagine if it was the tal armor because "ewww this thing is purple! grosss, purple!" :D
So if you manage to get a good roll on them, they can fetch a pretty penny
is there any where we can check the rate on items, maybe a web or a post somewhere?
Watched the whole thing at work today, only items that you left out were the key sets and organs, and the essences/tokens. Anyways solid content, keep it up
Love the content lama you should do a rune word version of this would help new players not get scammed for good runewords
(I have one for MY necro, but I found another.)
I found deaths set gloves, but i cant find the hands!
thank you so much for putting all of this together and helping people try and get into the trading market!
With a universal currency, you don't need to worry about having the exact item to trade to someone for something you need.

iratha's set does have some value in classic due to the + 10 max res. sigons is usually highly sought after for low level characters. not worth much, but many people would trade for it. m'avina's diadem is popular for a cheap archer helm due to the 30 ias on a helm.
Im surprised the arctic belt and chest have no value since they’ll net you 50% magic find at level 2 with very low str requirement. Kind of the same for the full Angelic set as it can carry you to at least act 3 in nightmare on a new character and gives 90% magic find
It seems to me MF is more relevant in Hell than earlier difficulties?

I think this helm its very valuable cause it gor 2 sockets and is a +5 bo helm. Do you think its better than arreat face to use not only as bo helm but as helm to wear all the time? in that case, what would you put in the sockets ? i compare it with arreat and arreat has that dexterity buff sure but i think this helms gives the life and can add much more dps with the 2 sockets.
thanks! i relearned a lot of information from this video. Much Appreciated!!!
I like to try more obscure builds. Pvp is an option. You can also go play hardcore.
16:30 these triple res boots are actually sick. It's like Picasso of diablo 2.
@@timwegley1668 Farming hell pits on day 1!? I'm not sure how people get there so fast. They must play all day and night.

Does Llama have a discord server? I think I heard him mention it in a previous video, looking for a place to negotiate trades for D2R.
My inventory is full is there a safe place to drop my items for safe keeping for another time.
The loot system is great, the items themselves...not so much
Well you're wrong because 99.9% isn't useless.
Once I had all pieces, one lobby opened called "N Sigons set"

Those boots are insane 👍🏻
Artic belt, gloves and chest is super nice for leveling and combined that with angelic neck and ring Rather solid for starting out, if your are a melee char throw on the angelic saber and you get a super fast hitting weapon with okay stats. Not omg good but okay !
Donrt sleep on cathans amu and rings. With 2 rings and amu u get 10+10 strength and 6+6 lifesteal. Combine that with the strength and lifesteal of sigion and death you will have town of survivability until you hit lvl 25. U can go into a p8 game and solo for epic xp.
What are the respec essences worth individually?
Do you have still fps drops and connection problems? :>
So when will i get my bachelors degree in Diablo 2?
Hero editor at its best on the yellow rings. ROFLMAO.
I gave away a +3 to all druid skills helmet cause it didn't have many other stuff on it, was this a mistake?
Some of the PvP gear value is absolutely insane. These are usually items that are completely useless for any player that plays the regular game, but these blue items like JMoD or +6/40s are absolutely dumb. That really shows that PvP is something that you only get into when you have played the regular game so much, that RW or Uniques just don't have value anymore, so you go out and get a blue shield for 300 Ist Runes, so you can put 4 perfect light-RBF in them that are also worth a BER-rune each. Fun.
what is the value? if you say the runes range it will help :)

What about uniques
The only thing I understood from these series of videos is that we need more Shared Stash in D2R. Maybe an extra tab or two.

I got a FCR magic find blue ring. Its worth something?
Probably not cause most people use Nagelring for MF. A blue ring with FCR can only get a max of 15% MF, whereas a Nagelring can get up to 30% MF. I believe a rare ring though can get up to 25% MF, so if it has other good mods like FCR, resistances, life, etc. then it might be worth something.
What mod is he playing?
I've watching your latest videos, and for old values are ok. My concept of values are quite the same, but today everyone is making Uber bosses instead looking for items, there is no bots working as it used to be, so today not is a offer/demand thing, if the people is not finding more items, or if this people is not creating such characters to use those items, some of them will be really valuable while others can be worth anything.
This!
My biggest question from this video is how the fk do we trade for ber and jah rune if they are so expensive? Do we just overpay and trade like 20 um runes for each one?

How is 20 um runes overpaying? That is some serious lowball offer.
