How to Install an Air to Air Intercooler Pt01 - Radiator Relocate | Supercharging the MX5 Miata Ep17

  • In this episode I need to make way for an intercooler in the front of the MX5. I acquired a 2nd hand top inlet/outlet intercooler which, in order to make work I'm going to have to relocate the radiator. First problem - the radiator needs to sit lower into the engine bay in order to get the intake pipework over the top, and secondly it needs to be moved backwards (towards the engine) to create enough room to get the intercooler in. These 2 problems I'm attempting to solve in this episode by modifying the upper and lower radiator supports. Making these changes also required me to adjust the power steering pipes and the horns, but once it's taken care of I should have plenty of room to install the intercooler when the time comes.

    Enjoyed watching the video, even that im not a fan of the MX5, not my type of car, but we all have our own choices, do you still have the Capri, that is my type of car, sold mine 3 years ago, wish i kept it

      Thanks. Yeah it's a bit of a departure from the Capri but I do still have it. It will be featured back on the channel in the New Year. Did a track day in it last month and unearthed a few issues. Needs rear wheel bearings and then further investigation into the brakes. Part of the charm I guess! What model did you have?

      @@FastRust Yea they need looking after, last one was a 2.8 but have had a few 2lt mk 2 and a 1600 gt mk1, but was a Escort man for years, a Mexico but put 2.1 pinto in it, the 1 car i wish i still had was a mk 1 lotus cortina, my first car in 1972 when i passed my test

    1. How do you select the right size intercooler for your engine to flow sufficient boost inside the engine?

      Good question! Not sure if there's an optimum size or whether bigger is always better.. I'm relatively new to forced induction.
