Eaton MP45 Supercharger Service - Snout Oil Change & KAVS Reduction Pulley Install | MX5 Miata Ep 18

- I'm showing my Eaton MP45 Supercharger some love in this episode before it eventually ends up in the engine bay of the Mazda MX5. At the top of the to-do list is fit my KAVS Reduction Pulley, which means first I need to remove the stock pulley from the supercharger shaft. Once that is taken care of I need to replace the oil in the supercharger snout, hack off part of the supercharger body to avoid clearance issues, then finally blank of a breather plug. This will complete the initial phase of supercharger prep until I get my hands on the G19 Inlet and Outlet. Keep an eye out for the install of those parts in Part 02.
🚨 BUDGET TRACKER 🚨
KAVS 15% REDUCTION PULLEY - £105
S/C SERVICE OIL - £17
EPISODE TOTAL - £122
RUNNING TOTAL - £1186.42

I have a Ford Taunus, I still watch it with love, thank you
Much appreciated! I'm going to get back to the classic Ford stuff next year, I promise!
Same here. I came for te Pinto but still really enjoy the mazda project. P.s. I'm using your tech guide to get my 2.1 on 48's running in my Escort
Thanks. Good to hear! Beginning to think I dropped a bollock with the mazda series and should have stuck to the Ford stuff. But will persevere then move back to the Capri next year. Have some stuff planned before it's next at the track so will be sure to document. 2.1 on 48s should go well!!
@@FastRust it's a good series so keep it up but I must confess I prefer the Ford stuff. Hope fully as I want a bit of a screamer. Haha.
Nice one James, nearly there!
Looks like a warm autumn's day where you are 😂 jokes aside great content, looking forward to the next update
Nothing gets past you guys does it 😂 It takes a while to get these finished but in my defence this was a weirdly warm day last month. So not as long ago as you might think. Cheers 👍🏻
Nice little job there Jim, she'll soon be singing to you. I saved a syringe like that from an Activ8 F/M Pack for getting oil in the Capri gearbox.
Thanks Nige. Getting there now! Yeah nice to have the syringe included. Can you get the oil out of the Capri gearbox with it as well?? That's the part that always baffled me
@@FastRust I think I've only replaced gearbox oil after having the box off for clutch etc. so drained it off the car out the tail end. With a longer rubber dip pipe it should get most out, maybe a poke around with a coathanger/welding rod to get a good angle & correct depth then try to get the rubber in the same spot.
Yeah same here. I changed mine when I had the gearbox out. Would have liked to do it sooner but.. no drain plugs 😂
Hi James, this is going back a good few months now, but when you bought your ECU you mentioned that you got an IAT sensor with it but neither of the ECU installation videos show you installing it? Did you end up not using it and sticking with the stock one? Amazing series btw, please keep it up!
Hey Tom. Working on that episode as I write this! Coming later in the series when I install the blow off valve as well as the IAT. It will be the sensor that came with the ECU yes. Cheers 👍🏻
But in the meantime whilst still NA, it's been running on the stock sensor.
I don’t know if I asked this or not but how do you supercharger using carburetor?
Let’s say you go from supercharger to carburetor or from carb to supercharger.
What sort of modification must you do to your carburetor to do supercharger to carburetor?
Is there any modifications you need to do to your carburetor if going from carb to supercharger?
What if you run a twin charger setup- can you have the carb before the supercharger and turbo or carb after the supercharger and before the turbo or carburetor after the turbo and supercharger?
What sort of modification do you need to do for twin charging and carb to work reliably and good?
Excuse English is not my first language
Can't be much help in this area because I've never ran boost with a carb. From what I gather you have a choice of 'blow through' or 'draw though' carbs depending on your application. Google will give you plenty of info on these. I do remember as a budget turbo pinto carb people would use a Renault 5 Turbo carb as this was designed to cope with boost.
How much boost it will be making with the stock pulley and with the KAVS Reduction Pulley?
Not sure about the stock pulley but with the 15% it's making around 6.5psi on the current setup
