    The cups you are referring to remind me of the days I spent in a garage repairing engines. The valve train to be specific. The (cups) your referring to are called keepers in the auto industry. Same idea. Two halves of a mechanical fastener that make a whole to hold the compressed spring tension. Thank you for the detailed video that covers this "primer drag" concern.

    The main selling points of having the DPM spring kit is not only "Recoil Reduction" (which he did mention), but tuning as well. Yes, I understand that he is try to bust this (unheard-of myth, to me) of "primer drag" with the firing pin guide rod spring set combo but from what I gather, that isn't a selling point of this
    TUNING: If you're planning on running hotter loads out of your pistol like +P & +P+ or heavy rounds like 180-grain JHPs, that is where this kit will really shine. The stock springs are optimized for 115-124 grain bullets. So, if that is what you're running, you likely won't notice as big a difference with this kit installed, as those that are pushing the limits of powerful ammunition out of their subcompact handguns.
    The direction of where your empty casings fly is not preference but rather an indication of whether you are or are not running the correct spring for your chosen round. Ideally, you want your casing to eject just past 90 degrees. If they are coming out to the front or to the rear of your gun, then you're not running the correct spring for the ammo you are shooting.
    Hope that clears some things up for those of you that are new to the concept of these performance spings.

    Many thanks for an excellent vid, Top! Rigorous, impartial testing with empirical conclusion. I have a gen two P365 (born May, 2018) and have put 4,300 rounds through it since Aug., 2018 with no problems at all. I think the primer drag is unavoidable owing to the extremely fast cycle rate and has not affected the performance at all. My 365 proved itself reliable enough to have become my edc and is a honey of a self defense weapon. I believe you've saved a lot of people a lot of money. You've picked up another subscriber!

      I agree, I don't believe you can eliminate primer drag on a P365 due to it's extreme compact size and the speed at which it needs to cycle. I just don't think it is possible to eliminate it. As long as the gun operates reliably (and the P365 most certainly does that), who cares about primer drag anyway? .. what difference does it make? .. I think this is really a non-topic topic. I don't care how much drag there is as long as my P365 continues to operate perfectly, and so far it has.

This thing is starting to become my new favorite pistol! Heard they fixed the primer drag issue with the later models, I'll have to look at the casings next time I head to the range. The primer drag is simply due to the timing, there’s no movement of the slide before the barrel starts to unlock, a heavier spring resisting movement of the slide rearward will only reduce drag a tiny bit.
    Only way to make a difference is to change the point where the slide n barrel starts to unlock. A different profile to the locking lug on the barrel or how it engages the chassis, allowing the locked slide to move rearward more, increasing lock time.
    I’m understanding the 365xl doesn’t drag, or minimally. I haven’t looked at them but a slightly longer slide n barrel combination would allow longer lock time, making sense that the xl doesn’t have the issue.

    • @SigGuy
      @SigGuy  4 роки тому

      morris4069 and the xl has the striker with the new tip design. Using this new striker in all other 365s also practically reduces all drag.

I purchased the 2tone version at cabelas on Black Friday and they assured me it’s bugs are all worked out and I have the same 45 degree angled striker. Gun is awesome. It’s in sigs best interest to work out all the bugs. Great gun it’s my EDC

    Watching another video on 365 primer drag a while ago and someone commented that most all tiny 9's have it in some capacity just based on their design (striker) size and ability for gases to expand (or not) in a short barrel. Took my Kahr CM9 that I've had no problems with down to the range and sure enough it drags a bit as well.

    • @SigGuy

Was thinking of getting the lightning striker and foolishly ordered the mcarbo kit but after seeing this may just order a spare Sig striker just in case and send the mcarbo kit back...mcarbo did say they only had reports of light primer strikes using apex parts or reloads. Not sure how true that is, but I was worried about making the swap w such a reliable gun so far at least 1400-1600 rounds w no issue whatsoever other than mushy gritty trigger. I recently purchased a new Sig P365 that came equipped with the newly designed striker having an angled "firing pin" tip. No primer drag was noticed, however the indentations on virtually all of the primers of the 195 rounds that I fired seemed somewhat shallow when compared to the indentations left on the primers fired of other handguns I own. Although all of my 195 rounds fired, the seemingly light primer strikes make me wonder if I could at some point experience failures to fire due to light hits of the striker on primers. Would anyone who has greater experience with this newly redesigned striker have any comments to share?

    Good job. People don't realize it has to do with shorter barrels and lock times. Longer barrels have the extra physical length and lock time for linear barrel movement thus providing milliseconds to allow the primer to retract. Short barrels have obviously shorter lock times and i may be wrong on this but more extreme barrel angle on rear of the stroke on lock open? It may be an optical illusion.

    I subscribed about a week ago after watching your video on changing the trigger and have just come across this great video. My 365 was born June 2018. Out of 500 rounds or so I have had about 3 or 4 malfunctions. All fte which could have been user error, maybe riding the slide or something like that. My question is should I have my striker updated to the newest version? After watching a number of your videos I have the highest confidence in your opinions. Thank you for helping the rest of us Sig owners be more informed.

      It could also just be “breaking in”. The striker had nothing to do with your FTEs. The old design (which is still updated from the original) should be fine. I personally like to have the latest and greatest. Being an inexpensive part I upgraded both of mine. Cheap for peace of mind. Thank you for the great compliment also. I appreciate that.

If I shoot 115 gr the brass seems to come straight back at me more often than not bouncing of me and sometimes the face of my RMR. The 124gr seem to eject better just over my right shoulder but I feel it should handle the 115's too. I have read reports the 320s may be over sprung? but I cant find any other springs out there to try so any suggestions you have to get that brass away from me and my expensive RMR is greatly appreciated.

For those out there that don;t want to invest 18 minutes of their life, SPOILER ALERT: you can't eliminate the P365's striker drag with different strikers or springs. I purchased a blue label Sig Sauer P365 new at the end of October, 2019. Mine was made at the end of January 2019. I have had nothing but issues with mine. Lots of feeding issues, issues with the take down lever and slide stop. No way I would ever trust mine to use as a carry gun.

    • @SigGuy
      @SigGuy  4 роки тому +1

      Jason Ralston I don’t blame you I wouldn’t either with all those issues. Have you sent it back to Sig at all? Have you contacted your customer service and told them about these issues?

    • @j.r.777
      @j.r.777 4 роки тому +1

      Sig Sauer Guy, I have. With the feeding issues, they asked me to continue using the gun to see if it feeds better, after breaking in. Where the magazines taper at the top, where you feed the rounds in and out of them, they think both magazines were simply tapered to tight. I’ve also tried multiple types of ammo to eliminate that possibility but they all do it. I may end up sending the mags in for different ones.
      On the other issues, Sig told me what I am experiencing is part of the design. The take down lever has gotten slightly better with use but many times if I want to rack the slide back to lock is it the rear position, clear a malfunction, etc. it won’t due it unless I take the slide lock and slightly move it up or down. The slide will then move, if I am holding the slide lock down or up. Since Sig has told me that is normal and part of the design, that is where my lack of trust is. If I’m in a self defense shooting, and I had a malfunction, you get tunnel vision, lose fine motor skills etc.. In my training at work, we are trained to simply tap rack and clear the round then get back into the fight. At work, we use Glock 22’s. With my Sig P365, if I were to carry it off duty and need it, and it malfunctioned, the last thing I need is an extra step involving a fine motor skill that people normally don’t train for.
      I bought the Sig with my wife in mind. She has small hands because she is a smaller stature woman. She is only 5’-3”. She is interested in also becoming a conceal and carry holder but needs a smaller firearm. The P365 fits her great. I love the design of it that it carries as many rounds as possible. I like what Clint Smith from Thunder Ranch has said. “I’ve never heard anyone walk away from a firefight and complain they had too many rounds. But how many have died because they didn’t have enough?” So that’s why I primarily bought the firearm. Ironically, I have not had an issue with the primer striker dragging on mine. But, it has only been fired maybe 200 to 300 times. If I could figure out how to simply rack the slide without having to manipulate the slide lock lever, I would love this gun because I really do like everything else about it.

    So I have a question that maybe you or others have answered, but I'll ask it anyway.
    Why does it drag on the primer?
    I'm an admitted novice, but it seems to me that the pin rides a little to long on the primer as the barrel changes attitude, so to speak.
    If that's true, the led is long gone by the time the drag happens. So the only question to me would be, does it add unnecessary wear and tear that would eventually break down and cause an issue as it relates to EDC?
    Assuming you take it to the range of course.

    • @SigGuy
      @SigGuy  3 роки тому

      Yku actually nailed it. All of it. Barrel drops quickly and the striker is still in contact with the primer. No real concern as most micro compacts do the same as well as time other FS pistols. For prince of mind the striker has an updated design that was introduced with the release of the XL. All strikers in all 365s will be the new design.

    • @fakeperson4069
      @fakeperson4069 3 роки тому

      @@SigGuy Thanks for the reply, I really really appreciate that very much.
      So I purchased my p365 at a gun show and later found out about the primer drag. So I checked out the born on date and found mine was made after the new striker was introduced. After taking it to the range I noticed the drag issue was happening with my pistol. Long story short, the striker assembly is more like the old style, I know this bc the new design requires two movements to release the gate. At least the type I've seem on UA-cam. Made me wonder if the vendor I purchased from changed the striker out. That said, I've had no issues with the limited rounds I've ran through it.

    • @SigGuy
      @SigGuy  3 роки тому

      Fake Person So the striker housing to release the back plate was re-designed at a different time. The housing and the striker revisions were done at two completely different times. Some people were experiencing the back plate sliding down and actually falling off while firing the weapon. The striker housing was re-designed to correct that issue. So it’s possible to have the new striker with the old striker housing. Thank you for your responses also. Have a great weekend sir
