You guys did a great job on this boat. I'm a little proud of mine also. 14 ft. aluminum Starcraft, 30 hp. electric start Johnson with hydrofoil fin, 3 padded swivel seats, marine radio, stereo radio/cd player with 4 speakers, bimini top, automatic bilge pump, flat, carpet covered floor, electric trolling motor, fish locator, depth finder, GPS, level floatation in seats, running lights, floor lights, spotlight, oars, just in case, rod holders, cup or bottle holders, top speed 30 miles per hour, (32 with tail wind) Had people remark that my boat is the best equipped 14 ft. on Lake Stclair. Trailer has side guides and non-skid walk out platform. No wet feet for me! LOL! I love this boat.
As I grew up I was always told if I were to paint something and put it in the water to always ways use a marine paint so I wouldn't pollut the water around the boat because an oil based paint will leach oil into the water anyways great build I hope u have great times on the water iv got a 14 foot Johnny boat did some work on it plan to do more thanks for a few tips. Be safe on the water.
that paint made it pop nice great job with the boat i like how the hull was framed out to make a nice flat even surface to walk on the captains chair up front was a nice touch as well as the carpet you got yourselves another subscriber
I didn't know you had to put harder in that tractor paint from tsc. Guess that's why mine is really easy to scratch and it took forever to dry. I painted my boat trailer black with that paint and ended painting over it with the rust - oleum truck bed coating paint. You got another subscriber and y'all did great work on the boat and trailer restore \ build. I hope mine turns out that good after I have the money to put it all back together. Im doing my first boat restore \ build on a 1966 Mirror craft 14ft vhull.
Great build. Good attention to detail. Always concerned when foam is taken out of a boat and not added somewhere else. Family of four died in California a few years back when gale force winds swamped their boat in June Lake, a high altitude trout lake in California. Attributed to foam removal. Boat sunk in middle of lake in 45 degree water.
They should have been off the lake long before any gale force winds. People need to be observant of the weather when in a boat on a lake or river of any size. They were not too smart.
@@mattblake9936Actually it does. A gale can develop out of nowhere in mere minutes. They died because of hypothermia even though they had life jackets. Flotation foam would have made no difference.
When trying to make a template for the front, lay the cardboard on top of the gunnel and trace it, it may be a bit wider but it's the Exact shape. if the front piece of plywood is cut tight there is no need for framing? The boat tapers smaller?
Anyone looking to remove old decals/stickers if nothing else get a heat gun and just apply some heat to it. It softens the vinyl and adhesive making it a little easier to remove.
I’m looking to do something similar, one worry I had was if I cover the gas tank and store with the battery will it be potential fire hazard without a blower or is that just on inboard motors?
First your a very talented guy ..Keeping it simple was smart..you gave it what it needed to catch fish..i just bought my 1st boat yesterday...looks alot like yours in original condition..you have given me all the ideas I needed..if I may ask what would the ballpark $$ spent to re furnish it as you did come to....TY
I have the same trolling motor on my Bass Tracker and was wondering how I could fix that cumbersome foot pedal! Still unclear on what you used to recess it in the floor. Could you tell me exactly what that pan is?

Curious why the center section floor wasn’t removed and replaced. It looks like you built a second center section floor and put it on top of the original floor.
I hope yours lasted longer than mine did. After only 3 years the plywood started warping and delaminating. I sealed mine on both sides and the edges with marine varnish and then covered it all with outdoor carpet like yours. It stayed out in the rain and sun because I didn't think I'd need a cover. The rain would run off and out the back. If I ever did it again I'd invest in a cover even though they only last a few years themselves. A cover is a lot cheaper than all the work and material I put into it!
@@laurencegiersch9615 It could be, but I don't want to take anymore chances. I've already talked to a metal fabricator and he said they could do it with all aluminum and I wouldn't have to ever worry about it again. The cost would be about twice what I spent on it already and I'd still have to carpet it. But, I'd be done and not have any future worries about rot or warping!
@Mackatax 1114 No, I didn't. The Lowes where I shop says they can't get it, so I just used exterior plywood. Doesn't matter now because I'm going to use sheet aluminum to replace the plywood.
Ive seen a few people ask but I cant find an answer, how long is the boat? I am looking to buy either a 14' or a 16' and it would help if I knew what this boat is. Thanks great video!
Awesome work guys. The only thing I see is the fenders on the trailer seems a bit small. It might rub on the wheels over bumps? Is this boat a 14 or 16 footer?
you could be right if it got pretty bumpy. We went a lot bigger than the original wheels just for looks but we probably went a little too big for keeping the original fender size.

That's is an incredible restore and rebuild!! I will have to give this some serious thought. LOL!! I saw a few other people ask, and you never really said. but how much did it cost? How much for the boat...how much in materials etc., to get a completed build?
I just asked my friend and he said boat plus trailer was 1000$, Johnson motor 1750, trolling motor 500, and probably 400-500 to redo the boat and the trailer
I've watched several videos in conversations of boats and even though u did an amazing job it's not a job boat? Not one video I've watched gets this right which blows my mind. A Jon boat is a flat bottom boat what you are working on is v hull boat big difference..
The original plan was to leave the inside as is but later on in the project we decided to paint the inside and it wasn't at our paint shop anymore so we just decided to brush it

Paint stripping wheel on a grinder. Makes short work of paint removal on aluminum.
