One of the best YT videos Ive watched in a while. Really nice in depth guide, not too long or short, and I love the jazz in the background!
Thanks man! Love to hear it! The video and boat were both so much fun to make! And I hear you, if you don’t like Jazz then I don’t wanna be friends lol
Final result looks amazing. Motivational and inspirational to anyone with an old boat.
Thanks :)
All while knocking out some lawn work.
Haha had to be done, plus I honestly love using all the different toys lol
Always love to see things like this- shows you don't need a lot to make something really nice like this. Awesome work!
Thank you very much!
Doing this project with your dad has to be the best part! My dad never did anything with me, he worked 7 days a week and was from another culture. Nice job on the whole project! More opportunities to have good memories with your dad too! 🙂
I hear you man! My dad works a LOT too. But the trick is everyone’s busy and no one has time, you just gotta make it. I will remember this boat build forever :)
I did a 14 ft boat build back in the late 80’s with plywood only no paint or carpet, when I got into the water my little 8 hsp wouldn’t get it on plane, discouraged me so I tore it out, hope you have better luck than I did. Finally got me a 20 hsp redid my plywood with paint, carpet etc, and I was set, caught more fish out of it than my fish ski boat. I loved doing the build, you’ve done a fantastic job, keep up the great work and videos. Good luck fishing.
Thanks! And I hear yeah. I love my build but I’m probably going to upgrade to a 20hp too, for that extra kick. I’m just happy to
be out on the water
Go with a 25 h.p. if u can find one, it has another cylinder vs the 20 h.p. i have a yamaha 20 but wish it was the 25 on my 16 ft skiff but it does the job
Also awesome transformation I'm bout to redo mine Also, yours came our beautiful
fun video, one thing to consider , with marine epoxy you would not need to punch holes through your transom to mount your transducer, just remove the red paint and glue your mounting block to the bare aluminum.
I purposely did not want to use adhesive. With the bolts, there’s no way it can come loose. Also, after a year there’s been zero leaking thankfully and if it ever does, I’ll just touch it up.
Love the build! I would pull the motor off, and 1.) put on a sawhorse and repaint the motor, the same color as factory. Same for the prop/lower unit. You can maybe get those decals from an old supplier, but if not, just clean them up the best you can. Make that motor look almost factory new again. 2.) Friend of mine got a rod rack on his bass boat, that 5- rods can be mounted laying down on side of top casting deck. Point here is, you do not have the length of the top deck as long as your rods, so the butts will hang off edge into the leg area, but not bad. It is organized in a not so wide mount, so you do not step on your bass rods, while casting. A must have... 3.) I would add another same seat on the other side, for another person to fish with you. 4.) I would mount some cup holders for drinks on the side of wall near your seats. I agree, bilge pump would be good. If you want to put a larger motor; a good 25hp merc. would get you around plenty fast. Just get a little larger tank. That's it! Great job!!
Okay first this comment is great, thanks! :) and yea there will be some more small upgrades. At first I wanted a 9.9 Mercury but now I'm already looking at a 25hp lol, it would absoulty fly! But for now I'm super pleased, I did this build for super low money! :)
@@hyper.orange can you give me an approximate price please, im 15 trying to get a bass boat and this is encouraging me, i can do everything here except electric work, but even just a John boat can be expensive, i probably would slap a trolly motoe on anyway, i had a friend who turned his prop around and put it on the back, it seamed cool to me
Around $3000 Canadian / $2300 USD
$1500 for boat, trailer , and motor
$1500 for trolling motor, material, paint, leather chair, etc
**Already had the fish finder, transducer and lithium battery
@@hyper.orange thanks man, if i could get a boat any cheaper this would be great
@@darkVib3z NP! and ye I hear you! Keep looking, stuff always pop up!
I’m 16 years old and saving up my money to buy a jon boat, this video is really giving me great ideas and some inspiration I love it man keep it up and keep living the dream 🙌
Thanks eh! And you’ll get it sooner then you think!
This is my favorite small boat build video.. I like how clean
your wiring is. I probably would have opted for a swivel seat on the front bench over the casting platform but that’s just me. The motor upgrade in your subsequent video was a good idea.
Love to hear it eh! This boat has changed my fishing, I absolutely love it! Yeah the new motors have made a huge difference, its great
Awesome build man! Came out looking clean. Bet that thing is a blast to go out on
Really appreciate it man, thanks! Oh it is, Im so happy with it!
I REALLY like the little bass boat build! It is the perfect father/son fishing rig for making memories on the rivers, creeks and sloughs. I wish I had my Dad's old 14 foo deep v with the 20 HP Chrysler to do this with.
Thanks so much man! It was so fun to build! Also for what it is the fishing as been amazing!
I Hope DeWalt gives you some sponsorship
Haha me too! LOL
No lie 😂
Dewalt is the responsible man's Milwaukee. Well worth the justifiable premium.
For what? Owning their products. Lmao

Great build idea. The finger loops stapled onto the compartments' lids will pull and/or loosen once they get wet. on my john boat, which was a similar build, we used 3/4" stainless steel screws and a washer just big enough to secure the strap. That should put you without any worries
Good to know! I will upgrade them! Thanks
I have a 12 ft just like urs and it's been modified close to URS but u took it to a higher level I really love wat u did n this has encouraged me to do some more things almost exactly like urs
I think u did a great job modifying this n I hope you have a lot of good times in your new boat .....thanku I really enjoyed watching ur video 😊
I love reading comments like this man! This boat has been one of the best things I’ve ever done! So many great memories! Do it, modifying it to the max is what made it so fun.
Pretty much gonna do a similar build with mine I think.. I’m in love with this boat!
Do it! You will be so happy! And thanks man, means alot!
Hope a bass doesn't mistake your key for lunch 😂
Whatever it takes to get them to bite eh
how many 2x4 did u use on the front casting deck?
I already had the wood so I just cut up what I needed. I think I had 2-3 6ft pieces
@@hyper.orange ok thanks!
aint nothing like a group of guys doin a little bit of woodwork
That’s what I’m saying
Nice job on that little boat. Looks amazing
Thanks you! It was a great build to do!
What a cool project!! The end result is very cool as well. Congrats on this build!! Enjoy it!!
Thank you! Glad you liked the build, it was so fun to do and even better to fish!

Love to hear it man! Thanks so much! If your curious I have an upgrade video on it! Cheers man
I have a 12 ft jon boat. Putting in a sub floor and front deck completely changed the boat. Its so comfortable and easy to get around on barefoot.
I agree! This boat has done so much great for me! It’s better then nothing right :)
That lil boat was a beauty before! After is just flat out killer!!!
S tier comment man! Thanks
I just got a 12ft v hull and after watching this I’ve got so much motivation to pimp mine out now.

The boat has been the best thing ever!
Very well done, perfect 1 man bass boat.
Thanks eh!
Sweet man! Looks good. 😎 Nice job on the video too! Shots and editing are really well done. 😊🤙🏽 Best of luck on the new boat!
Thanks so much man!
@@hyper.orange No prob! 😊🤙🏽
Nice !!! My first Bass Boat was 72' Sears Gamefisher fiberglass 10' skiff. It was rough, needed paint but it cleaned up good. I fished out of that thing for 10 years. Had a Gamefisher 2.5 hp.motor . Trolling motor was a Paddle 😂
I absolutely love hearing all these boat build stories! It all about getting out on the water eh! and haha a paddle eh! Gotta start somewhere lol
I’m doing almost the exact same thing right now, this is awesome!
Love to hear it! Nice
I used to have a 12 foot boat similar to the one you transformed in this video. The one thing I did to mount my trolling motor was to bolt a piece of plywood onto the outside of the bow, that way I didn't have to worry about it falling off during transit from the lake and home and visa versa. Also, I had a 9.5 HP Mercury outboard on mine. It was a good motor, but I wished it had been a 4 stroke instead of a 2 stroke. Great job, the boat looks great.
Thanks and check out my new trolling motor video to see the new mount I did. And yea planning to get a 20hp 4 stroke
It was a great time working on this build with you! We'll have to go fishing on it again sometime😎
You know it
Nice build! I did something very similar to my 65’ mirrocraft. Wish mine was as sturdy as yours. Mine is a shallow “V” and is real tippy.
Thanks eh! And the way I see it is that it's better than nothing right
im liking the removable decks, been thinking of doing that to mine too, ive got a 1956 v hull 14' with a 1965 9.5hp motor, same trolling motor style, garmin striker v4,
Thanks, making this boat build has been one of the best things Ive ever done
Those are some good old boats. We skied behind and fished from one a lot like that when I was a kid. I think it had a 20 merc on it. I fish in a 10ft jon with 4hp merc and foot controlled trolling motor. I've had several bassboats in the past but have fun catching fish from my one man mini boat now.
Edit: your boat will handle a 25 if your transom is strong enough. Should run 28-30mph if set up right.
That's awesome! And yea I hear you, so many good memoires are born on boats like this eh!
I really enjoy watching this sort of build. You truly make the boat your own; I would add a couple of rod holders in the back for trolling And maybe a couple more than those two on the middle sides as well so unused rods are not laying on the deck. I have snapped a couple by stepping on them. Lol. All the best.
Thanks dude! I’ve definitely learned a lot from this build.
Gotta have allot of rod holders. My rule is 1 rod holder per 1’ of boat lol. Not really but seems every time we go fishing we each bring about 4 rods a piece.
Great video. My wife and I are trying to but a house, right now, but I want to get a boat after that. This was a great, inspirational build for me. I've thought about doing something like this, but wasn't sure how to go about it. Seeing you do it really helps.
Would have loved a little clip of you fishing from it at the end, but still, great video.
Thanks man! I’m really happy with the out come for what it is.
Check out the channel, there are multiple videos of me fishing on it.
Just got an 11'6 aluminum boat from the 60s. getting it sandblasted right now then i wanna do a floor. This video is pure inspiration!
That’s great! Enjoy building eh, love hearing about all these tiny builds! Also if your interested I have an upgrade video coming in May!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! "BRAVO!!!!!!!!!" THIS IS PURE AMERICAN "WE CAN DO IT" MENTALITY!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR ENTHUSIASM!!!!!!!!!! GOOD WORK!!!!
I'm from Canada lol but love the comment man, thanks!
Nice to see a v hull conversion. Almost all the other ones are jon boats.
Yea I hear you! and thanks!
Love it dude! This is like a Dewalt commercial
Haha thanks! Dewalt has definitely been good to me
VERY Nice built! Do you have to register this boat for this size and small motor? In our state said boat 12' + and 25hp+ needs tittle and register.
Not in Ontario because it’s under 9.9hp
Well Done My Brother!! :D :D
I love the forsight from the start, "she may not look like much," But I myself knew that was could for, "look at all this potential!"
Honestly, I've been thinking of buying a boat myself, but looking at whats 'New' or 'Newly-Used' online, makes me cringe just a bit..
I had the same thought as this video the other day, "what if I just bought a little stink hole of a Used boat, and Made it my own New??"
And Now.. I Am Inspired! 😃
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. And ohhh I know the prices of new boats are wild! And it’s all about getting out there and it’s working great!
Good call on the trolling motor. A good one transforms your fishing experience more than you realize... until you use a bad one.
Thank you! I completely agree! I do plan to upgarde to a Terrova soon, just cuz I really want i-pilot the way I fish! But the traxxis has been great for what is it!
Nice my friend... You'll be so happy with this boat.
Thanks man! I really am! Its been so fun!
Boat deserves a black-and-white red motor.good job guys
I probably going to upgrade to a Mercuty 25hp anyways when I can lol
Beautiful build.... but how tippy is the v hull when you're on the cast deck?
Super stable actually but have to be more cautious in rough water
I don't watch many videos all the way through. I did this one The way! Love this build awesome video man.
I appreciate that! Means a lot!
@@hyper.orange np. Do you still have this boat?
@@gage6704 Yup still have it!
Nice build, although I'm guessing with all that weight you added you probably upgraded the motor to a 10 HP.
Thanks and 100% that’s the plan either that or a 20hp lol
Can’t wait to see it out on the water. Nice job
Thanks! Maiden voyage video coming soon! :)
literally the coolest boat i want to make one just like it!
Thanks man! I’m so happy with it! If you can go for it!
Don't have the space for a boat but this got me pumped to start a clean project

Nice I bought a 16 ft I got it painted inside now now I just got to completely put the rest of it back together Hope it looks as nice as yours
I love hearing about all these builds man! Enjoy and thanks eh! I’ll have more videos coming soon!
Gus is a savage lmao. Sick boat, I wanna do this now...
He’s a mood lol and nice man do it!
Awsome video man! I am now inspired to make my own bass boat!. Keep it up!
Thanks, you should!
Perfect motor for that boat. I had a 6 horse Johnson on several boats. You can’t kill these motors and so dependable!
I hear ya! So far its been great! Wild for how old it is too!
So I’m wondering how the lid pulls have held up I was thinking about either drilling a finger hole or some kind of flush mount pull for mine but your setup looks pretty good as well
Yea I hear you. I’m happy I didn’t drill any holes, so far the straps held up great and I think it looks cleaner. Keeps the inside dryer too.
I would have turned the 2x4s for the framing up front, would last longer structually, but thank you for pre drilling and using a drill to run screws not just impacting that sht in there!
So far after 2 years everything is holding up great so I can’t complain and yea your welcome lol
Very cool boat! Sweat equity makes it more special!
Thanks Rick! Really enjoying it
I see you take it out on st clair but what are your guidelines? I have a 14ft i decked out with a 9.9 on the back. The sidewalls aren't very high and ive yet to take it out there.
Yup I take it on Lake St Clair a good bit. Weather and wind direction is everything. You really got to prepare and watch when you’re on a small boat. I’m extra cautious! I don’t mess with stuff like that. Because I have a weak motor, I also am very aware of how far I go out. Because it may be nice at one point, but St Clair can turn on a dime. When it’s nice though the boat is awesome. But my advice is just extreme caution eh. Its not worth it, a lot of times I cancel it sucks but the right call.
Im building a bass boat john boat and im wondering where did you get the paint and what the name of that color red is i want to paint mine the same color
Solignum marine paint - red
I got it from Canadian Tire
Do you feel like its more stable now with the deck vs stock v hual floor when walking in it?
It is way more stable now. Very happy with it. A big factore is also the weight. You can check out my videos of me using it to see for yourself too.
Your Evinrude is a great motor. You should run TC3 2 stroke oil at 50:1 ratio, if you can buy non ethanol gas in your area I would always use that too. Good choice on the minn Kota with variable speed. This model lets you exactly get the rpm to match what you need. It’s not a spot lock motor but miles ahead of the usual 5 speeds forward models. I’ve never seen the mount you used to attach the troller up front, going to check it out. I’ve been looking for some type of bracket.
Need to keep in mind that extra weight is not your friend on these type of projects.
PS. Keep an eye on your water discharge. If you lose water pressure you fry your motor quickly.
Easy to replace the water pump if you need to.
P S. I see you have a grey fuel line. Be aware some of these are not compatible with ethanol gas. The plastic center line actually softens and either collapses or small pieces break off and plug your carb. Straight gas is better for your motor, does not attract moisture or collapse fuel lines.
Yup motor has been running great! I use premium oil and gas in this 6hp! For the money I'm super pleased! Thanks eh!
Wouldn't half Inch plywood be thick enough? I want to do a similar type of deck on my 14' aluminum boat.
I wanted to make it heavy duty
i found my boat for 2,200 and its a 17 foot long bass boat, and came with a mercury 120 2 stroke motor!! love the build btw
THATS AWESOME MAN! Im loving all these boat stories and builds! Enjoy it! I’m planning on up grading my motor I can’t wait!
@@hyper.orange i cant wait to get on the water!
Yea dude I bet! Enjoy!
How did you keep the frame of the front casting deck did you drew into the side of the boat of just screwed it down to the seats?
It locks into the side metal to stop from moving and the weight and tightness is enough to keep it down. Also It is removable.
Pops tryna hide the Brewskee! 😂😂😂😂
He deserved it lol
Nice build too. I love how clean and neat you did everything!!
@@tommskee Thanks man! Really appreciate it! It was a lot of fun do build too! Ill remeber it forever!
Sweet build bro, I’m definitely getting that EZ Bracket for the troller!
Thankssss! Good choice! I like it a lot so far!
just got a 1981 smokercraft for $200. cant wait to make it look like this next weekend
What a absolute DEAL! Nice man enjoy the process
Grear build, enjoyed watching. One thing though, did you use SS staples on your carpet and for general fasteners?
Thanks eh and yes just normal stainless steel staples. After a year nothing has come up. They are holding up great.
Great Job, It's tough getting back into a kayak after being in a boat for a while. Bass boat is around the corner.
I hear you! I absolutely love my kayak but fishing out of a boat is something else
Kayak, John Boat, full out Bass Boat for me, now my kayak collects dust. LOL
I day I get a proper boat I’m going to live out on the water lol
Wow great job. Getting me motivated to do mine . Nice work! Love it!.
Awesome! Thank you!
Really nice job. Looks clean and its all you need for some fun time on the water.
Thanks eh! It was all about getting out on the water and Im so happy with it
I’m watching your video again!!!! I have the same type of boat and I’ll be doing the exact same thing to mine.
Great Job. I’m excited to see how mine is going to come out
Thanks eh. And yea do it for sure, honestly one of the best things I ever did!
I have a 12’ smokercraft I’m thinking about doing something similar. Just trying to figure out tackle box spots and gotta get rid of the tackey wood panel bench seats and do something better
Yea do it! Its better then nothing right! All about getting out on the water and having a good time fishing
I have a question why did you put the carpet on the front floor and the two front seats if you covered it with the wood and carpet later, also what boat carpet did you use?
The front deck is removable. So if I wanted to use it the original way I can. The carpet adds a soft and flat platform underneath, it also reduces noise and there isn’t any shakes.
The carpet is outdoor waterproof carpet from Home Depot.
Thanks a lot!
No problem
Dope looking into a Jon boat and want to do a similar setup just with a couple different mods
I highly recommend
Nice work! Have you thought about adding some foam blocks or spray foam with the added weight?
So actually back left is filled fully with spray foam, did it off camera.
@@hyper.orange nice!
perfect build, wish i could do something like that
Thanks man! If you ever get the chnace I recommend it!
How do you secure the wood on the floor to the boat??? Rivet or screw into the supports?
No screws or bolts needed. The weight and snug placement keeps it in perfectly. Doesn’t move or come up at all.
*Disclaimer* I know the "key" is a kill switch! Just made the other one for the video lol. I have a bungee kill switch always on and attached. Dont worry Ive seen the videos of guys flying off boats and there boat goes off on vacation! Cheers and thanks guys!
@@FAKE-NAME Its a crazy world out there LOL
Wow insane build. I have an older gentleman as a fishing buddy (his dream is to own a bass fishing boat) and he bought a boat probably 20+ years back with money he won from the lottery!! this video really makes me wanna take and redo his boat for him. Could you give an approximate number on how much you spent on it??
Thank you man!
Boat, trailer, gas outboard motor was used $1500 CAD ($1111 USD) and I spent around another $1000-$1500 CAD on the trolling motor, wood, carpet supplies, paint, etc.
Now 05 2023 I have an even nicer trolling motor with spot lock so it really depends how you build it
I just ran across this video and I have something to ask ! How big is this boat ?? I have a 11 footer I'd love to do something like this to but I worry that it's too small .
12ft. It’s small but it works :)
I used to have an old 6 horse Evinrude that looked exactly like that one. I beat the tar out of it and could never kill it. Started 3rd pull religiously
It’s wild how great it still runs! Great little motor
I could see the key falling in the water and a large mouth bass smashing it.😂
That’s the dream but I hope I record it!
All jokes aside tho I got extra kill-switches on board that I use
Looks awesome. Little bass boat
Thank man! Im always so excited to take it fishing!
Nice! only thing is I would suggest you add a bulge pump! You never think about them until something happens, but anyone who has experienced dumping their coolers and other containers out over the side and using them as desperate bails while praying they get back to the dock before it sinks will not even go out on a boat without one...
I have a big manual hand bulge pump never leave without it but I was thinking of adding a electronic one to a battery.
@@hyper.orange the electric ones are cheap, and they allow you to do things like jump all the way in the front to keep the back from going under, concentrating your attention on steering to keep waves from hitting you from the side, and keeping and eye on the depth finder so you don't hit rocks and stuff while trying to get back to the dock.
Yea I’ll look into it for sure! Thanks for information
Dude you did a really really good job.. looks like a pleasure boat for sure! You don't need a $50,000-$100,000 boat to go catch fish, and this just proves that! You did a really good job it came out great. I cannot even lie, I have an expensive bass boat but I wished that I had a smaller boat like that to go fish smaller bodies of water that I could never get my big fiberglass boat into!! Great great job! Stay safe, enjoy it, catch,em up!
Sidenote. Has nothing to do with the boat but I noticed that you had a couple of the new ugly sticks. How do you like them? Is the hype real about them? I've been thinking about getting a couple! . I mean if Matt Robertson can fish on the elites with them they must be official.. great job, nice boat!
Man this comment is awesome! Thanks man, means the world! I want a nice boat really bad I won't lie but I will always keep a small boat like this because of the memories and its just so fun for what it is! Your absolutely right, it's all about fishing and getting out on the water and that's the message I'm trying to share.
As for the Ugly Stiks. The g2x is an amazing rod for value and starting.
Now the carbon series rods that I use are honestly pretty awesome especially for the price. They are pretty light and have a good strength and sensitivity for the tip. I can't complain and they have served me well. Caught both bass and pike on them, spinning and casting. Also I like the red and looks. I know theres better rods but again for what they are, I like them alot! Cheers man, thanks again
i agree! you dont need a 30-60k plane to fly, you have ultralights and paramotors for less than 10K to fly, same thing with jon bass boats...its cheap to fish if you buy an affordable renovated jon bass boats!
@@hyper.orange thanks for the feedback on the rods.. and no problem man, like I said having a big boat sometimes serves it's purpose. But what you've got you can do everything else everybody else does and more with.. like I said if I had the money I would have one just like that beside my fiberglass boat.. 💪🤟
I agree again! It’s all about getting on there right! Just fishing and enjoying the water!
My have so many plans for boats in the future! I’m addicted now! I wanna do 16ft build! Also although I can’t wait to get a big 19 foot boat I’m gonna keep my little 12 build forever I think! Also I have an upgrade video coming in early May if you’re interested. It’s gonna be awesome!
Man I saw the thumbnail and thought you bought one of my old boats I built it is literally identical same colors boat and carpet and everything I’ve been looking for it and thought I just found it lol
Haha nope but keep looking she’s out there
Hyper orange can you use a wood block to mount a trolling motor
Yes you can. In my newer video I have a new bow trolling motor and new mounting system and used wood with the steel in the front
Nice boat for sure
Thanks bud :)
No problem cheers 🎥👍🎣💪🍺
ŚWIETNE! Greetings from Poland! Good work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow! That is incredible!
Thanks eh!
Imagine, Your out on the water, Your enjoying your time. You get hot, so you shut off the boat and go for a dip. You see the key for the boat in the water with a Fire tiger lure tied on. That would be the only time I'd catch a bass on that lure. haha
Haha just made it for some fun lol!
Should have ruffed up and sanded those surfaces before you repainted them. Know it seems like a hassle but it makes a huge difference in the adhesion and longevity of paint job.
Yea I hear yeah. There’s definitely some stuff I would have done different, but regardless I’m really happy with how it turned out.
@@hyper.orange looks fantastic it really does just pointing that out for future. Aluminum is a fickle mistress.

love the concept, simple but rewarding and very useful. maybe one of your future videos can be do the same thing but make it a jet boat with a jet ski engine to get super close to shore, think about it you will have the weight needed jmo tho great video.
