@themellowhost i am planning to start UA-cam channel where i would be recording videos while subject is moving a lot or sometimes running as well......and i am concerned about the autofocus of fuji xt4, so should I go with sony a6600 ?
Thank you for your review. I know these reviews take a long time to create. My comments are for still images, not video: I have shot with the Sony A6000 and now, recently purchased the A6600. There is no way that the Sony camera skin tones are that bad. I get warm, rich skin tones from the Sony camera-these video images on the sony look flat, greenish/yellow. So, here's my suggestion: go to Imaging Resources which uses an objective, lab-based method called "comparometer." Select the A6400 (the A6600 is not presented but the 6400 uses generally the same image processing system) then select the XT3. Check out the sharpness, accuracy, and color tones of the sony 6400 vs. the Fuji. I see no dramatic color differences there.
I agree with you completely. Sony does not give greenish/yellow tones unless the settings are wrong. Your suggestions are great and I get the impression you know what you're talking about. I've learned something from you today. Thanks.
Hi Josh. Just saw this. The Fuji appears better indoors, but the Sony appears better with outdoor natural lighting. I'm an artist and am a bit sensitive to color. I wish I could afford either of these cameras. Way before digital (old school) I had a Nikon 35mm which was a great camera. Thanks!
@@hrishikeshkale823 Z6 video is overrated (I have both that and the X-T3, the X-T3 wins hands down). Z50 = see Z6 comment above, but a lot more limited. Good question. But at the price point of the x-t4, why not consider the A7iii? Especially in the studio you have way less noise in your footage when the lighting isn‘t perfect. Sorry Josh, the Fuji indoors makes your skin appear more natural to me, but I haven’t seen you in person so can’t say if it’s correct. The Sony seemed better outside, it didn’t get overblown by the sun as much and the colours seemed better. I know that doesn’t help much. Btw what brought you to NY from Australia? How do you like the lifestyle there?
Fuji looks way better. Much more natural. However, focus breathing can be a nightmare. I used to shoot on the Panasonic GH5 for the incredible price to performance, but the horrible autofocus made it unusable. Then switched to a Canon 1DX Mark ii. I know, bit of a price difference there, but work bought it for me. That said, every Canon camera I’ve ever used has had superb autofocus, even my first one - the much cheaper (and now very old) 7D. Their color science is also legendary. If you can, save up a bit and go with the new Canon R6. You will get a full frame camera, excellent autofocus, an articulating screen, great colors, IBIS, 4K 60, dual SD card slots, and much more. Love your channel so wanted to take some time to give you my advice as I am a videographer. Whatever you decide to go with, keep going with this excellent channel. Your videos are informed and to the point. Really appreciate the way you value your viewers time. Now I’ve spent to long on this and need to value my time 😂 and get back to work.
Does the sigma 16mm F1.4 work on Fuji camera? I think it only for Sony and Canon, does Fuji have a lens like sigma 16mm F1.4 which is affordable ? I think build a basic camera + lens package fuji will cost more that Sony.
the thing is i want to do a simple photography, and Fuji will be my ultimate favourite. But after watching this video saying about the focus breathing, will Fuji fail to focus on flying bird half the time; or is the problem only occur on video?
Fuji definitely wins in the color department, their film simulations look amazing. On the other hand, the sharpness of the a6600 is noticeable when comparing the two, to the point where it would be my immediate pick when only concerned with video. Since it seems like this camera is going to be the do-it-all, and since you mentioned not liking how the Sony pictures turned out, it's a bit of a tougher choice. Personally, even with the worse colors on the Sony, I would end up picking the a6600 since it does have better auto-focus and better sharpness. If you're going to be using the camera for your channel, I would find the focus hunting on the XT-4 to be a deal breaker in trying to look professional. If the Sony can just do it, that's one less thing to worry about, and will save you potential ruined takes. Since you're filming your videos in a somewhat controlled environment, a simple color correction should do the trick in fixing the MY main gripe with the a6600; those colors. Once you get the skin tones looking healthy/pleasing to the eye, the rest is up to you, whether you take a creative direction or keep the colors looking natural. Again, this is my take, and is more centered around top-quality video footage. I'd be willing to take the hit in worse photo colors if it meant getting the best video. Also, Even though the XT-4 is 10 bit vs the 8 bit on the a6600, since there isn't a ton of contrast in your shooting environment, it doesn't seem like it's really needed. The 8 bit from the Sony holds up almost perfectly, and since you won't need heavy grading AND most people don't have 10 bit displays (yet), it's a bit of a waste. On the flip side, you may want 10 bit if you want to future proof (Maybe UA-cam will allow 10 bit in the future?), take a freelance job (flexibility of the camera) or have more freedom for any outdoor shots. I don't know much about the lens and accessory ecosystems of the two choices, but based on all of the above points, I'd go with the Sony a6600.
The thing is that the Sony shoots 4k at a lower bitrate than the Fuji, almost 2 or 3 times lower so the quality of the video overall is better than the sony. No doubt the Sony is much sharper but then again we do have primes for that. 10 bit is very useful in creating the specific look you want that you generally can't achieve with limited hardware, plus that higher bit depth usually translates to better colour for any kind of shooting environment. The skin tones on the sony can be corrected by adjusting the magenta and green contrast but the downside for me on the a6600 is the flip up screen. If you put a vlogging mic on there then you're done for. Focus Breathing is a non-issue with newer lenses and for talk down shows have to set it once is probably enough. I prefer to pull focus manually in every possible situation so that focus breathing is not something that would be a deal breaker for me. IBIS is fairly good on both but I'd prefer a gimbal for proper stabilisation but for run and gun I think the Fuji will be a better choice because of it's recording capabilities, 10 bit 4:2:2 video (externally), amazing colours (So you don't have to edit much in post), Higher resolution and the ability to change settings rapidly on the fly with those analog dials!
The Fuji has better skin tones RIGHT out of the bat, but you can easily add magenta tinting on the a6600 in post processing. Sony's 6000 series is easily the most reliable and powerful for content creators, but it'll mean more work to do post processing. In my opinion, Sony has a cheaper and greater lens selection, while Fuji is a little more expensive in lenses. Fuji is a great camera choice for hobbyists that go vacationing and hiking often, so I say Fuji if you really look forward to vacationing (like the Australia trip you mentioned). The fact that you never enjoyed good JPGs out of the 6400, I push you to do the XT4. I have an A7III, and I figured out a profiling and lightroom routine to fix up my JPGs and raws if needed. It *is* a bit annoying to have to edit it, considering I just need to share them on social media.
The Fuji X-T4 is such an awesome camera. I got mine around 2 weeks ago, and I couldn’t be happier. The colors are amazing(no need to grade anything), image is very sharp, IBIS is decent, battery life is great and my favorite thing is the separate menus/settings for photo and video. From the tests you’ve shown here, it looks like the Fuji looks more accurate when it comes to colors, but the Sony doesn’t look bad. Both of them look just as sharp, I guess it’s a matter of personal preference. but since you said that you need to save as much time as possible, and Sony’s colors require some work in post production. Which you don’t really need to do with the Fuji X-T4, I would say sell/return the a6600 and just do everything with the Fuji X-T4. You won’t be disappointed! BTW my favorite picture profile is Classic Chrome, I would highly recommend to give it a try..
Hi Josh we already discussed this on Reddit with you and I am looking forward to the video. Since I made the same choice myself, I must ask why don't you consider going full-frame? Your videos are in a studio environment anyway so mobility shouldn't be a problem. I would argue that the lens ecosystem of Sony Full Frame is much superior to Fujifilm and Sony APSC. Autofocus works much better than Fuji as well. Fuji has focus breathing issues and slow focusing lenses. In your situation, I would be considering either a Canon Full Frame (R6) or Sony A7iii and the mighty A7siii is supposed to be released in a week so maybe wait for that as well? Either way I would definitely not invest in an a6600 as I find the a7iii which has a similar price to be much superior.
Fuji XT-4. I used to be a professional stills shooter, and prefer the way the Fuji sensors render skin tones. You look a lot better on the Fuji! I have a Sony A7, which is a wonderful full frame camera, but can render people a little cold. Also I would advise not shooting any portrait (or video) on anything less than 35mm (APS field of view) -- a short telephoto is always better for portraiture.
Most youtubers advise a 16mm-30mm (APS-C camera) for talking head youtube videos, your advise is completely opposite of that, why so? Wouldn't the image become too zoomed in?
Loved the Fuji! It's got much better colours straight out of the camera in my opinion! The only problem I could say I had about this review was that having flip out screens doesn't mean you have to hold the camera by one hand only. It is possible with two if you just slide your hand ahead of the screen and onto the lens. Thats it, but an amazing review and I think I prefer the Fuji over the Sony because having an unlimited recording limit isn't something as much as a feature for me. Usually you'll shoot shots of B-Roll for max to max a minute each clip except for when its for sit down shots or talking head shots, that's where I gues the no limit recording could come in handy.
Josh which do you think is the better laptop - hp Spectre x360 2020 or dell Xps 13 9300 or dell Xps 15 9500 or thinkpad x1 Carbon 7th Gen.Josh it would be really helpful if you rank them from 1 to 4 for me,I’m really confused right now.Thank you for the great work and information your providing us😊
Your skin has a lovely green tint on the A6600, so if you graded that, you might want to learn how to do that better. As for video, MF lenses are very often used for video professionally (although not always), and using an off camera microphone will not capture the lens AF sounds. Atomos Ninja V Fuji X-T4 Fuji 27 (I witnessed no focus breathing with that lens, but you will be confined to studio work as it is to tight at 41mm for hand holding).
I think Fuji focus could be better after some software updates. The built in coloring makes the Fuji a no brainier if you really don't have resources to do coloring in post.
The color on the Fuji is much better. How are you setting your white balance? For situations like yours, where the white balance of your light should be pretty constant, I prefer using an Expodisk to set a custom in-camera balance. Then to limit any color grading that you might have to do, adjust the picture style to taste. I use Nikons, and that's what they call it. In particular, I recommend starting with a neutral setting, and then adjusting to taste. Getting it right in camera leads to less work later.
If you use Cine 2 gamma, color mode still, instead of HLG, and combine it with leeming lut pro (leeminglutpro.com) you will get better colors (Hint: even better than the fuji). You're welcome.
The xt4 having FOUR TIMES the bitrate for video and 10bit is a pretty valid excuse for it taking a little longer to write the file and the recording limit IMO
I found this video insightful and the comments even more given how old the video is! Thank you for your value add to the process of finding the right camera given very real limitations such as budget and what the main use of the camera is destined for. Asking onself as a vloger likely to go with Sony and oneself as a photographer likely to go with XT4 (budget benefit as well). Also as a minimalist what is the least added gear intensive as this is seriousl inverselly correlated less stuff and more price for the stuff to do great stuff with. A remake of this will be wonderful please do comment on this when you do! Best Mountain Regards Brigitte
The canon EOS-M50 is an awesome option if you're on a budget, and it comes with a decent lens out of the box! i'd recommend it if it didn't do a lousy job at 4K res.. but in general, the X-T4 looks much better! I also find that turning off the IBIS and keeping the OIS on turns out looking much better!
Hi, thank you for your fun and informative video! When I have looked at the Imaging Resources "Comparometer" shot under lab conditions the Sony A6400 (Sony A6600) is not yet posted there but the software is very similar for processing photos comes out with as good a color rendition as does the Xt3. I'm not sure what happened here in your video because hte Sony A6600 comes out clearly a jaundice/yellow mess compared to the great hues of the Fuji XT4. I wonder if this is due to the color grading that was selected? Again, I have no doubt that in all probability the XT4 is the better camera for all of its features, but I don't find in my shooting with the Sony A6600 that skin or other colors are so yellow. Thanks again!
To get more comparisons/or simply to check out the skin tones of the sony by other photographers...I would also check out pro photographers using the sony camera for weddings, events, or shooting when human subjects are the focus.
Try the Viltrox 33mm F1.4! It snaps focus like a god machine, is silent and cheap. Plus it gets you a tiny bit closer to that 30mm you wanted! Just remember to go into the menu and tell the camera what focal length lens is on it, or the IBIS won't be using its correct strength
I really prefer the colors that came from the Fuji. The skin tones inside just looked far more natural and less orange. They both looked pretty good outside though
The Fuji is much higher end camera with internal 10 bit 4:2:0 4k60p capability at upto 400mbps All-I, also it does 180fps slow mo with AF and IBIS is much better. F-log gives tons of Dynamic range and makes more sense than S-Log on Sony as Sony records only 8 bit whereas Fuji does 10 bit which means it has a lot more color information for post grading. Advantage of SONY is their AF and video centric lenses. The Fuji lenses are mostly made for photography and will take them a good while to make good video lenses. If you take out AF out of the question, the Fuji is superior(even XT-3 is superior technically when compared to any other APSC camera).
Well to me the Fuji is looking very naturally colourful both in the indoor and outdoors shots. This video is also compelling me to change my mind as I was going to buy a Sony a 6600 now i will prefer a Fuji X-T4.
I'm going Fuji simply for it's ease of use when it comes to color and overall quality for all-purpose usage. I'm sure Fuji will address the auto focus issues in updates, but you can't go wrong with either one honestly. Oh and would you consider doing a review on the HP Envy x360 AMD version?
The Fuji colors are out of the box look more natural , more contrasted and the skin tones are way more pleasing to the eyes , on the Sony you look a bit yellowish even with the grading. I'm really impressed by how good the "out of the box" colors are . Also the stabilization is way better on the Fuji
Its really what you are using it for. The xt4 has great pics staright out of body but the auto focus kind of suck and the low light and I hate the flip out screen its no good for filming. The xt4 is twice the price
I have the 6500, but if I would upgrade, I would go for Fuji. If they bring an update for the XT-30, maybe with an articulated screen, I will buy it on the spot. For the moment Sony has something that nobody else has: the remote RMT-DSLR2. It doesn´t need Wifi or Bluetooth and it has all the necessary functions.
Great review as always, eventhough i have no interest and experience in cameras, i think the fuji is better over the samsung as there are much more pros than cons with it.
Go with the Sony, mate. It has a warmer tone which looks nicer. And if you want to shoot stills you can shoot raw and edit afterwards. If your job involves shooting video, and you chose the Fuji you'd have to edit the footage to try to match the Sony's and it would be more time consuming. It's just my opinion.
The Fuji does great indoors and the Sony looked a little better to me out doors. The Fuji reminds me of Pentax. The only item I didn’t like was the focus hunting problem with moving objects.
The fuji is winning my heart over...i really want to get this camera. Cuz I see myself recording video with this. And also thr photos look amazing as well. The perfect hybrid camera. I beleie it can still be competitive for 3-4 years still. Im probably going to get it. I hope there auto focus gets a firmware update. Great review, gotta watch it again tomorrow 🤭🔥💯
If you're not going to wait for sony a7siii just go for fuji xt-4 because obviously it has a better image quality than sony a6600 however xt4 is better with fuji's own glass 😊 Btw I love your videos 💪
Fuji's colors are much better, but not perfect. The skin tones have a hint of red to them, which doesn't look the best. Meanwhile, the Sony is too orange/yellow. Maybe grade the Fuji footage, just a tiny bit to eliminate that? Anyway, hope that helps, Josh!
that sony color grade is very greenish. Hands down fuji in this comparison. If the sony were color graded more naturally, maybe, but saving time? Priceless... Fuji looks sharper too...
Yeah thats what we've found. Sony we can get it there but its a tone of work. Its very challenging for Tech videos as each b roll shot is often filmed at different angles and requires individual grading. Fuji saves alot of time
The Fuji looks so much better unless your skin color is actually like what the Sony is representing
If his skin color is that lovely shade of green, he should probably seek help. 😁

No flipscreen
X-T4 output 10bit video, A7iii only 8bit .. so video color is much finer in Fuji

Bro im planning to buy xt4 for client and professional work
Is the af reliable I mostly use af
Agree. I would go with the R6.
He mentions that he wants to use the camera when travelling as well not just in the studio
A7iii doesn't have a flipscreen
Now - what lens/lenses would you recommend with the Fuji XT4?
Fuji colors look better. Nice camera :)
Josh which do you think is the better laptop - hp Spectre x360 2020 or dell Xps 13 9300 or dell Xps 15 9500 or thinkpad x1 Carbon 7th Gen.Josh it would be really helpful if you rank them from 1 to 4 for me,I’m really confused right now.Thank you for the great work and information your providing us😊
How did you use sigma 16mm 1.4 lens on your fuji, do sigma manufacture lenses for fuji. Great video comparison!! Thanks
Your skin has a lovely green tint on the A6600, so if you graded that, you might want to learn how to do that better.
As for video, MF lenses are very often used for video professionally (although not always), and using an off camera microphone will not capture the lens AF sounds.
Atomos Ninja V
Fuji X-T4
Fuji 27 (I witnessed no focus breathing with that lens, but you will be confined to studio work as it is to tight at 41mm for hand holding).
I think Fuji focus could be better after some software updates.
The built in coloring makes the Fuji a no brainier if you really don't have resources to do coloring in post.
Dont stress it too much. Pick whatever suits u time wise & money wise. We are here for the content & would watch it from webcam also. Gudday!
Sigma 16mm on fuji???
If you use Cine 2 gamma, color mode still, instead of HLG, and combine it with leeming lut pro (leeminglutpro.com) you will get better colors (Hint: even better than the fuji). You're welcome.
Im going to try this btw
you can fix color but you can't fix a blurry shot - WW
Phenomenal point!
Thanks, good comment there!
I like better the Fuji, but I'm in the middle of making my setup. And I found the Canon M50, how do you feel about it?
Haha the fuji is nice but its 2 grand plus 😅
Get the a6400 for a little over a thousand its the same as the a6600 just no ibis and a smaller battery
Fuji all the way!!!
Edit: well if the camera doesn't have too many issues with focus and sound. The image quality is great.
Thanks mate for sharing this video!
Fuji X-T4 looks much more vibrant and pleasing to look at!
Thanks again!
colors look definitely more natural on the Fuji unless Josh has a jaundice
What settings are you using on the Sony? it looks horrible.
Hi, could you message me on Discord and we can go through the settings?
Great review ! Fuji photos and video colour is better but the auto focus breathing is a dealbreaker for me.
To get more comparisons/or simply to check out the skin tones of the sony by other photographers...I would also check out pro photographers using the sony camera for weddings, events, or shooting when human subjects are the focus.
2:29 is not Australia, is Wanaka - New Zealand =D
Fuji for sure - colour are just so much better. In a studio the autofocus should be no issue, which is the main advantage of the Sony.
I have to disagree about focus not being an issue, focus breathing on Fujis are pretty annoying and distracting.
In his talking head setup he would like manual focus
The Sony was so green. Knew it was sony before the reveal because of it 😂
Try the Viltrox 33mm F1.4! It snaps focus like a god machine, is silent and cheap. Plus it gets you a tiny bit closer to that 30mm you wanted!
Just remember to go into the menu and tell the camera what focal length lens is on it, or the IBIS won't be using its correct strength
Is it reliable for af
In the beginning of the video i like the left one more its more clear in my opinion.
Hey Josh ,
Please do review Hp Envy x360 Amd ryzen 4500u
You look like a sick guy on the Sony. Secure it a little and get the new vlog Canon just announced.
Love the Fuji's skin color 😲
When sitting, the Fuji looks redder BUT detail seems clearer. Most noticeable is hair on forearms.
Lol. This is bad grading, and did you set the white balance up correctly before shooting?
Yeah its an older video. We still find the Fuji looks better even though we've improved the grading since
I really prefer the colors that came from the Fuji. The skin tones inside just looked far more natural and less orange. They both looked pretty good outside though
The Fuji looks so much better... better colors and give the sensation that has a little bit more of detail.
Agreed!
Fuji has the best colours and details but the limitations of Fuji are a deal breaker go with what ever you like 🙏❤️
Like auto focus....?
Please make a complete review of Asus Zenbook 14 AMD with MX350... 😊
I already have, it is the video 2 before this one on the channel!!
@@JustJoshTech Thanks! ☺️
Whoever color graded the Sony did a terrible job!
as Fuji User I think their Video performance cant beat sony till this moment.
AF, Firmware, Performance dst
Josh, Thank you for your amazing videos! I find Fuji X-T4 to be amazing.
Fuji looks sharper and more color accurate to me. For my eye it's nicer overall
Eterna is the best imho. And the X-T4 is a work horse in every aspect. Also their lenses are very good for the price.
I think I'd be fine with either of them as a viewer. If Fuji makes your life easier overall, I think you should go with it though
Definitely go with Fuji X-T4! Much better colours.
Fuji. But at that price bracket, why not go up a tiny bit and go black magic? Or sony a7?
I love this channel hahah
The Fuji is my recommendation
You could just paste a black image on the right with the text "buy Fuji X-T4"
Great video - excellent, thanks
Fuji seems nicer color for UA-cam vlogs/reviews
Go for Fuji XT-4 for better color, fully articulated touchscreen and easy menu system.
Hi mate, hop on the Twitter. I'm going to put some photos up i took yesterday with it. So nice to shoot on
If you're not going to wait for sony a7siii just go for fuji xt-4 because obviously it has a better image quality than sony a6600 however xt4 is better with fuji's own glass 😊
Btw I love your videos 💪
Sony's Yellow Skin tones look ugly - had the same issue with my A6000 - can correct in post but it is usually annoying
Fuji 💙
I think fuji has better dynamic range + 4k 60fps & keeps getting better with the newest firmware
Fuji color always on point! I love my X100F out of cameras jpegs
Fuji looks better indoors (skin colors) but I preferred the Sony outdoors. Maybe just stick with Sony and work on the grading?
The Fuji just looks so much better it is no contest. The skin tones are shio much more natural. Also the image seems smoother and less grainy.
Fuji Xt4 for the win bud.
This was a lot more difficult than I expected.
Fuji saves alot of time
you cant get a sigma 1.4 lens for fuji, dont spread misinformation, dont use silly color spaces and ask people to compare colors
