So, many Indians are upset about the fact that Hollywood uses all kind of stereotypes about india in its shows and movies. But the unfortunate part is that, we Indians are also making same type of stereotypical content when it comes to other states.

What was the issue in 2 States and Rocky and Rani tho. People get way too uptight about this. I am a South Indian and I had no problem with Alia's portrayal in 2 States. Not to forget the fact that the actors who played her parents were south actors too.
2 Sates and Rocky and Rani were far better representations of ethnic characters. A bengali woman does nothing from a different planet to identify herself as a bengali. Modern day women speak the same way using common language like English in most of their conversations and wear regular clothing, not specific ethnic attires..... even though the character of Somen was a bit going towards carricaturish but they stopped there

Joking within your friends circle in your living room is one thing and making the same joke on your “friend “ at someone else’s party, on the stage, in front of 1000s of people and cameras that will reach millions, is totally another. SRK is not some 10 year old who “slipped” an inner circle joke in public nor is he someone who is front of camera for first time in his life, to get carried away in the camaraderie. He was very much aware of what he was saying or doing
But why are people leaving out the part where SRK went to receive Ram Charan at the edge of the stage and bowed to him in respect (in front of the same thousands of people).... People are omitting to mention that part because it doesn't fit their narrative of a rude / racist North Indian.
@@lazydamsel It changes the substance of what happened. It was not a racist / rude taunt by SRK, it was a case of thinking (wrongly) that saying an old line from one of his movies would be considered funny. Ram Charan can also say vada pav , pani puri , rajma chawal , chole bature but he didn't because he know where he was invited and respect, discipline is in line

Yes. it was casual racism. but it has been so normalised that they are not even aware that they are being racist when they say this. i am 100% certain that had this been an event in south India hosted by south indian stars, they would never ask srk to the stage by calling him in such a way... Even in tamil nadu, people are a bit racist towards north indians- and they call the north indian as "vadakkans" ("northies").. there are "stereotypes" - such as "northies" being portrayed "chewing paan" etc. this is probably ingrained for many years now... and it would take a few more years to change the perspective.. i must confess, having been living overseas for over 7 years now- sometimes our own people are more racist than even foreigners.. i once had an encounter with a girl from delhi who told me "you people have an indian passport right- then why are you not learning our national language.."- not even realising that language is a sensitive issue for "us people".. every indian who speaks a different language other than hindi- has a linguistic identity as well as a national identity.. it does hurt when people from national capital say such things..
One thing I still can't wrap my head around is how Deepika portrayed her character in Chennai express despite her growing up in Bangalore and her father being a South Indian....

the same thing used to happen with punjabis in movies too; where tussi, sadda, pind, chhad, balle, and the generic dhol, bhangra add over the top punjabi that sounded so ludicrous used to be what defined them. This mainly pushed them to be the people who comic relief in roles. Which is why when I saw Animal, I loved the way they showed the Punjabi culture along with the relatable punjabi language, the people not just being comedians, as being peope with bravery, loyalty, and ferocity. I hope this continues not just for prominents communities like Punjabis, but also for various communities belonging to the South, Bengalis, and Gujaratis.
The best movie to tell what majority of North Indians still think about South India is "Meenakshi Sundereshwar" I am from Madurai, who spent my entire 17 years of childhood. I mean rather than us getting options to study French, German in school. Really now! The intensity of South Indian cinema, the authenticity of their salt-of-the-earth attitude, the beauty with which the industry showcases Indian culture evokes more respect here than Bollywood nowadays!
Ironically a Parliament resolution was passed in late 1960s during the official language debate which enjoined states in North India to take up one regional language preferably South Indian as part of three language policy. But it was never taken up seriously.

Most South Indians feel disconnected from North India. Unfortunately, stereotypes exist for all castes and races. For instance, Bengalis are often termed as practitioners of black magic, while Biharis are stereotyped as uneducated laborers, and so on. The make-up artist's intentions were to create controversy, which she succeeded in doing. If Ram Charan had any issue with it, they could have personally resolved it. Furthermore, the dialogue he recited on stage was from one of his past movies. Chennai Express is hilarious and Lungi dance is equally loved in South and North. We're becoming too sensitive and easily offended.
Isn't srk referring to the dialogue of one two ka four in the event? I may be wrong. Being said, representation of every ethnic groups and people should be done without making fun of anyone.
First of all it was a dialogue from a movie and it was said in jest. The only person who is allowed to take offence is Ram Charan himself (who has said nothing on this publicly). His make up artist was probably just looking for her 15mins of fame. Also if he was really called "idli", I really want to understand why would anyone take offence on called by something that is a significant part of their culture. Rohit Sharma is constantly called Vada Pav, he doesn't take offence. The whole of "South India" calls all the people from other states as "Northies", we don't take offence even when we are not from North India. Why as a South Indian person, you will get offended if someone calls you "idli or dosa", shouldn't yoi be proud of your food? I am a Bengali who has been brought up in Jharkhand, I am called a Northie in the South state that I work in. Neither would I ever get offended by being called "macher jhol" nor by "litti chokha". I grew up on those food and I love those dishes. Why are South people getting offended by anything and everything these days?
There's racism against South/East Indians when it comes to language/complexion which can't be denied. You have comedy shows in Pakistan & India showing Bengalis & South Indians with dark complexion makeups which is problematic. Rohit is called vadapav in the last 4-5 years as he has been a rotund which is again amplified by fans of a certain cricketer. You can't compare that to racism faced by people.
I mean South Indians do the same to North Indians, it is just the lack of awareness of our culture. Not all food from north is Punjabi, India apparently is divided into two sections Punjab and Madras.
Well said. I shake my head everytime I hear him imitate a South Indian language on stage shows. I realize that there is no intent to hurt but it is not funny coming from a fairly intelligent and influential person and can have certain repercussions. If I recall correctly, Amitabh Bachchan once very respectfully spoke a few opening lines in Malayalam that he had learnt at a function in Kerala. That is respect for another culture.
The response SRK gave at the chennai experess remark is emblematic of this wider logic in south asia, especially in boomers, that you cant reprimand someone for something they did with "the best intentions". In reality, intentions and outcomes have nothing to do with each other! You can cause the worst damage with the best of intentions! Intentions aren't enough. If you want to go on and make a movie set in the South, why not collaborate with creators to get representation right? Such effort also needs to exist alongside good intentions.
People need to tone down a lil bit. Imo if people start taking small small things seriously which happened in a party where everyone was probably inebriated, then whole bollywood would be in a questionable position!,,,,,😅

Which is why when I saw Animal, I loved the way they showed the Punjabi culture along with the relatable punjabi language, the people not just being comedians, as being peope with bravery, loyalty, and ferocity. So glad you made this video. What SRK said was rude, patronising and silly. The more I see cinema from the South, the more I enjoy it now. As a Delhi-ite, language is a problem and how how I wish that at least one mainstream South Indian language was compulsory studying up North and a tiny fragment of the same effort on Hindi were made down South.
Those over here defending srk for them-- let rc anchor a show and call out all the gutka stars one by one. Gutka khan, gutka Kumar, gutka devgn. I assure you Hindi audience will stop watching his movies. Bollywood despite being this big always chooses to stoop low by stereotyping. Bollywood thinks it is supreme when all it is itself riding on remakes and low effort action movies.
Ram Charan also has a song whole Mumbai is a slum ,he is dancing qitha white colour dress, in prabhas movie maybe chatrapati a bihari was a villian, the industry in which the heroine is just used as a eyeball ,they are saying ,what was happened with Ranbir Kapoor during animal promotional event ,you Telugu people troll tamil people by saying sambhar, now you are showing hypocrisy ?

Once I read the comment in which South Indian actors are called as Idli sellers, I was like what the hell yaar, South India is much beyond these stereotypes, despite being from UP, I always rooted for South India, agar South wale itne hi inferior hain to kyun 90s or 2000s mein Priyadarshan or RGV se lekar Sandeep Vanga tak Bollywood par South ke directors dominate karte rahe, kyun aaj ke samay mein North ka koi director blockbuster nahi de paa raha hai or aaj kal ki generation South directors ke zayada naam jante hain. Bollywood people are very very arrogant(because their films have wider reach) and ignorant(the way they portray various cultures) South has great actors from Mohanlal to Kamal Hassan who are living schools of acting. I am tired of these stereotypes towards Southies and North East people also.
When I heard about the racism with your Keralite friends so I must say If I make a movie related to Kerala(which is my dream to make) so I would like to present the Malayali culture atleast in an authentic way,
I do not like the way people think about Southies, I want to visit South Indian states, I try to tell my mother that whole South is not same but there are 5 states but I can't blame her as it has been a moulded mindset of the Northies about South people.
I am fond of Malayalam films and music so my cousin said that get her married to a man named Venkatesh (this name is not even Malayali I feel), and my mother says it's tough for us to get you married to a Southie as "tumhari shaadi mein sabko idli dosa khaana hoga"(shaadiyon ka alag menu hota hai).
Waise I feel that culture should be preserved but not stereotypes.

The thing is Bollywood is till date, a major industry that is looked upon by a billion people. Something coming out of such a huge superstar (srk) can never go ignored. Many arguments can come out of different industries but , bollywood surely takes the cake and cherry too. Bollywood somehow comes back to square one in depicting south people or any other language for that matter. Unintentional things do happen, but we need to realise that any actor or any person should have basic idea and knowing before they speak out.
Bollywood's depiction of the Sikhs has always been ridiculous except for a few rare films. Even the way characters speak in Dunki is bollywood's own version of Punjabi.
Animal's potrayal of punjabi's may be the most respectful and true to the core punjabi's with the accent and mannerism. Even though we don't understand certain things they say, but it's not diluted like dunki's

When wasn’t Bollywood racist or ignorant? They have always misrepresented different cultures in a wrong or disrespectful way.
This also reminds me of the incident where people, mostly from the North, went behind SS Rajamouli for clarifying RRR as a Telugu film and not a Bollywood film on its USA screening, like he didn't even say anything wrong lol. And it baffles me that how all these years, people used to ridicule South Indian films and now that they're performing well, everybody wants to take the credit lmao. Whereas, on every other stage, the whole crew of RRR were representing it as an INDIAN film.

Bollywood remakes and releases the South films in their language and earns money but doesn't appreciate the actor's in the movie doesn't even cast South heroes as main lead in their movies or direct a South hero except Prabhas
Ram chandran was given a role and debuted with PC in Zanjeer. Not Bollywood's problem if it flopped epically. Same with Prabas. However, you're forgetting that Rajnikant and R Madhavan did transition well.
That's not true all industries does remake sr ntr amd mgr had made most bollywood remakes
If SRK were being rude or racist, he would not have bowed to RC when he reached the stage... Have you ever seen a senior actor bow to a younger actor in front of a huge audience??
Don't make your own stories.
