I like how both the 7in and 8in models have the new chip. My only wish for the 7in model is that they had increased the battery size from the 55whr battery inside but that's not too big of a deal. I can't wait to see the comparisons. I think it would also interesting to do some ray tracing tests in some games as supposedly Intel should have better RT performance over AMD. What I'm most excited to see is the battery life. The 17w mode should last about as long as the Ally X assuming both have the same power draw from the entire system
Yea I live their choice to make both 7 and 8 inch models same ram and same processor. 799 or 899 plus the other differences and there's some choice there. Def interested in RT testing among other things.
I can't wait for the new Switch and, the new Legion Go 2 but, I was thinking of getting MSI since my pc is MSI everything. I feel it's a little late to get it when the new handhelds will be out soon.
@@moretoknowshow1887 considering this chip falls more in line with z1 extreme performance. Sometimes beats it depending the game, due to immaturity of drivers it has some issues. But the chip is miles better than series 1 from Intel. The z2 extreme and AI 370 are similar and both have 890m gpu and should well out perform the z1e and ultra 7 chips. But will see. Gotta see what the price to performance winds up for these things to. Dunno if I will have an ai300 handheld this year or not but definitely will have a z2 extreme.

But besides battery life and thermals yea its the same exact hardware and should perform almost identical. 799vs899 depending what size i want / build you want. Yea it seems its a driver issue. Ally x plays the game fine. Ot always playable but smooth not spikes in frametime. The Claw just doesnt wanna run that one. We have seen this before with immature drivers. It will get there

Woah, that handheld has a manufacture date of only December 2024. Seems like these are manufactured fairly quickly, although it could just be that’s the date it was finished being manufactured, and it was tested months before That’s the one thing I worry most about receiving new gadgets. Whether or not they have any manufacturing defects. I usually check over everything to make sure I’ve got a good unit. I’m pre-ordering a 2025 ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 gaming laptop soon, the new one with the Intel Core 9 275HX and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, and you can be certain that I’ll be checking everything on that to make sure it’s all well and working properly
I always worry of the same thing. Especially since i preorder so many products. Lucky with handhelds I have never had an issue. Build quality so far on the Claw 8 is solid.
Normal operating and 17w gaming its almost silent. Under 30w more load u have hear it pickup some but its more quiet then my OG Lcd deck was and is more quiet the. Legion go under load. If that helps. Ill try to cover that well in the review later.
At 7:42 you say that the perfomance is similar to your Z1 Extreme... Does that mean that the Rog Ally X wipes the floor with this device? I've been wanting to get a windows based handheld and was waiting for this one to be released in the UK in February, but if the Rog Ally X is better, then I'll just buy that. Thanks for your time.
@@SteveDFM the Ally X is a Z1 Extreme so performance for the Ally x and Claw 8 is very similar. I will have a full comparison coming for Claw and Ally x and also Claw and Legion Go. Recording tons of game footage now. AMD certainly has the more mature drivers and features but Intel has caught up to and in some cases beat the Z1 Extreme that is in devices like Ally X and Legion Go. Over the next 1-3 weeks ill have alot more experience and videos.
@@SteveDFMThe ally X actually has less ram total, 24gb on the ally vs 32gb on the new claw. Also the speed of the ram is one going to help at higher wattages. At 17w and below, faster ram actually hurts performance. But in not actually sure what the ram speed is in either of these. I just know I had to turn the speed down on my legion go for better performance at 15w.
Can you do a test to see what games are playable at the lowest power profile? I think if this new chip is able to play more games at the lowest power profile that would be a pretty big differentiator from the other handhelds since that would mean 4+ hours of battery life.
Let me know if you have monster Hunter (any), the performance on steam deck was barely passable and near unplayable with the Wilds beta(to be expected). But I need a good upgrade, definitely getting this over the 7 with the upgraded battery.
@@MrDaimon19 1080p i dont like on a 16:10 display unless i dont have a choice. 1200p works ok for many games but just like the z1 extreme its still more intended 800p fpr demanding games and 1200p for less demanding. I can see that changing more when the z2 extreme releases later this year. It looks great on the 8” screen though. But i hear ya. When i do the review and comparisons I will include more resolution and tdp options.

@ agreed. We have plenty of PC handhelds and many more coming and improving. But I also like console experiences and games like switch and the past sony and Nintendo handhelds. Thats why i want the Xbox Handhelds to be an Xbox Console not PC handheld from them.

Msi should stop using intel for gaming if they want to make money. Their hardware and build quality is the best among others, but the intel is the drawback. Or maybeee.. it's not msi that funds the claw, instead it's the intel project to test their cpu in handheld form.
Bingo its a partnership. And you would be surprised here. Intel been behind so long and their series 1 tra was horrible for handhelds. This gen 2 is a shocking improvement. Caught up to and someytimes beating the z1e even with not great drivers. Intel keeps it up we have real competition finally.

If you check out the channel you will see I actually dont test many idie games vs aa and aaa stuff. For first impressions video I was only 24hours in. And I showed anfull mix real quick of aaa and india games at 8w 17w and 30w for a quick “ first impressions “ idea. I rarely play indie games they rly gotta hit with me. Ive always leaned on the bigger titles. Im probably also alot more a gamer than a “ tech “ guy. Wish I did that well lmao. This channel is mainly for the gamers and consumers. I try to buy and test as many devices and games as I can so people can decide if they wanna buy or try or whatever as well as do as many guides and news vids as i can between that 😂.
I always wonder the opposite! Why buy a $900 handheld to play AAA titles at 30fps, you could spend that on a laptop or PC and double your performance. I like to see Indies and AA games because I can realistically play those at high res & fps on the go.

Absolutely. Original Claw was a major disappointment. Not disappointed with claw 8 at all so far. My most anticipated handheld is legion go 2. Its gonna be so good. But its also gonna be more expensive im sure. With legion go s hitting 730.00 with the z2go and set to be more expensive with z1e so my guess 799 or so. Then u have legion go 2 which they say will be z2 and z2e availabale. That means they need pricing room from that 799 for lower end model. My guess 899 for z2 model which would basically be a z1e. And 999-1199 for the legion go 2 z2e model. But we shall see.

I’ve try God of war ragnarok on msi 8 and it is 70-80FPS with 30W TDP and amd with xess with low settings and it was good experience…

I've found with indiana jones turning off the motion blur helps tons! (Using ally rog x anyways)

Like other handhelds it has its own built in overlay u can use. I use msi afterburner tho.
I’m waiting for a new OLED handheld to come out with Steam OS and newest & best CPU. My guess it’ll be next year at the soonest before that happens.
