I've been looking at this for my band's IEM rig. That way we don't have to mic up our own drums every time we go out and play that way FOH can us their own mics and there's way less set up time involved.
It’s a good option! I didn’t get along with it because I like more overheads in my IEM mix, but that’s completely personal preference. It’s an amazing piece of gear either way!
Great advice! I know I got here late, but would you recommend some common settings on EAD10 (scene, volume, sensor/triggers sensibility, effects etc) when playing in live gigs? Thanks in advance!
You're not late at all! When I used the EAD10, I remember the big thing being the volume between the 'overheads' and the kick and snare being not enough. So I generally turned down the kick trigger and added an external snare trigger, but apart from that, it's all personal preference!
Exactly that! I did a few videos on "How to Live Stream Drums" where I get into my setup. But in a nutshell, I run everything through Logic and mics rather than the EAD10
Thanks for your reply. So the EAD10 is really more optimal for practice, live monitoring, and aux pad triggering purposes then? I’ll check that video out.
@@crnevins it really depends what you’re looking for. In short, yep! If you’re not looking to get fully into the recording world but want a good drum sound that you can use, the EAD10 is the way forwards. If you need to produce a lot more recording based stuff, then mics. These are only my opinions and experiences though, there are SO many people out there that have done some amazing stuff with the EAD10. I hope this helps!
Great question! I'm not too sure sadly. When I had the EAD10, I just took the main outputs and recorded them onto a memory stick or logic. From my knowledge though, they do come together with Rec in Share!
Question? Do I use the mic of the ead to listen to the drums as a monitor or do I get the sound guy to send me the whole mix band and drums? Or whole band no drums and use the ead mic to hear the drums back too?
Great question! With a band, I would get a little mixer and send the headphone output of the EAD to the mixer, then get the sound guy to send you a band mix. Then you plug your headphones into the mixer and you have control over what you hear
@@DrumElectric so using just the mic from the ead to mic the drums up myself. The sound guy doesn’t need to send me the drums his end? Just the back line and backing track. I’m worried about delay and bleed on stage? I’m thinking of not using the mini desk and I’ll just ask the sound guy to set the levels I wish for each instrument going straight into the ead?!
Do you think this will work at church particular because I play in a "Cage" if you know what I mean lol im thinking about getting one for us here in church.
its hard to tell from the recording, does it get the tone of your drums accurately? ive heard that it kinda just turns your kit into a trigger, i dont want that
Good question! Yes and no. So it'll get some tone from the toms as they're coming from just the mic, but I tend to find that the kick is pretty much the same across the board, as is the same with the snare. That being said, they may have updated software to help with this as it's been a while since I've used one!
hey bro I presume that if I'm using rec n share on my phone , or plugged in with headphones, recording songs live with my band , when play back I will hear my drums and the instruments of the band?
Hey Brent! Great question, and one that I don’t know a true answer of sadly! I’ve didn’t use the Rec’N’Share app when I had the EAD10, so I’m not sure on its full potential. My first thought would be: it depends on where the band are plugging into, or if you want it through the microphone of the EAD10
The module has a bass drum, and snare port, with extra ports to add more triggers, could you add 2 overhead mics to the module to pick up more overhead sounds?
Or run bass, snare, tom1, and tom2 (four peice) triggers into the ead10, then into the mix, with 2 overhead mics separately into the mix, and have in ears run from the mixer? Please excuse my naiveness I'm new to all of this haha
Great question! So you can’t put overheads in as they’re already built in, but you can put more triggers on to help. You could then, like you say, put the EAD10 into a mixer and then have separate overheads go into the mixer and mix them together to get the effect you want
Ummmm, well I don't know how this has happened, I was just looking at reviews for EAD10 and I've come across this video which happens to be my ACM lecturer, so umm, hi I guess lmaooo
Could you do without bass mic with this for front of house?thinking of using this and Aston spirit for over head for smallish gigs, when just a couple of spaces on the mixer.cheers.
That's a great question, and one I'm not sure of sadly! When I had it, the channels weren't configurable. But I'm not sure if Yamaha have updated it for more control of channels since. Might be worth heading to a Drum Shop and testing it out!
Seems from your video that using this as a drum kit mic on a budget for a bar band would work well. Don't have 1-1.2k for a decent mic kit. Can scratch together 500 for this little guy though. Kick sounds flat, seems a separate kick mic would help pump the subs
it should work indeed! When I used it, you have a lot of control over the trigger level for the kick, snare (if you add the trigger), and 'overheads'. I can't see any issues at all putting this through the PA!
You could, but you’d get a lot less control over the sound. You’d get a lot of kick and snare with little overheads, you also wouldn’t be able to EQ the kick separately to the snare and vice versa. When I used it I found that the kick was very compressed and didn’t have much low end
Hi sometimes in one of my bands wee mike the snare and kick , and a over head , in that case would it sound better as well with the EAD10 in a live gig.
Hey Brent - completely subjective! If you've already got the mics setup, I wouldn't see any benefit of adding the EAD10 unless you're going for that sound
Hey Brent - After a quick Google search it looks like it's in all of the app stores (Google Play if you use Android, App Store if you're on Apple). The name it's under is "Rec'N'Share". Hope this helps!
I'm not even a drummer but am looking for a quick live recording solution without spending $1000 and more importantly needing another 45 minute before a gig to get mics attached and levels. Yes?
Great question! I bought it for that exact reason when it first came out. If you like a lot of kick and snare in your mix then definitely! I didn’t get along with it for monitoring because I prefer more overheads over the direct sound of the drums.

Exactly the info I was looking for, thank you! I’m looking for a solution for IEMs in a live setting so this was perfect!
Thank you so much for this video. Thinking about buying and was my #1 question
Happy to help!!
It's so great, he sold his.
How do you only have 300 subs? This is professional grade content!
Thank you so much!! You are FAR too kind!!
Just thought the same thing.

@DrumEletric Nice! Thanks man!
Sooo, if the EAD 10 doesn’t work for you what do you use? Standard micing?

Is there a way to get rid of the klicky bassdrum sound and make it sound more round? I've got one, but haven't figured this out yet...
I believe that’s just the sound of the trigger used. I find the EAD10 has a very specific compressed sound, some love it, some hate it!
@@DrumElectric yeah. I like it in some situations too, but not all… 😂. Thanks for the reply tho! 🙌🏼
is it possible to extract the audio and video separately in rec in share? do they not come together audio and video after recording?

You absolutely can!

Absolutely!! And the best bit is that it’ll sound incredible too!
araa. live mics bleed as well too. people forget that

Hey Bailey!! Great to have you here - Let me know if you have any questions about the EAD10!
Can you record Facebook live videos with the ead
You can take the audio from the EAD10 and use it for Facebook live, yes!
It looked as if your snare was still miked for the live gig...no? So the EAD was not fed into the FOH?
That's right! So the EAD10 in this case is just purely for my own in-ear monitoring
Could you do without bass mic with this for front of house?thinking of using this and Aston spirit for over head for smallish gigs, when just a couple of spaces on the mixer.cheers.

When I had it you couldn't, but there's been many updates since then so I'm not sure!
Camera audio picks up hats much better. EAD makes everything too Flat.
Can change that in its settings, but I actually prefer them less bright 😅
