@@scottculver5728 You have two triggers which trigger the kick and the snare, all other things are recorded by the built-in microphone. The drum module itself has a stereo output that you can connect to your PA/mixer/audio interface to record a stereo mix of the drums, if I'm getting that correctly

I play cover tunes in a bar band and this is a one trick pony for setup and teardown. While most of the reviews detail the drum sounds nobody is going to use, the basic kit with some reverb works well for my use. Hook it to a PA channel, add your eq, and your done.
Yes dude because I had that same question. I've seen other Instagram drummers use this and they said they added some other EQ and done. Because to be honest that didn't sound the way those insta drummer were playing. They had their snare poppin and everything more crisp and tight which is what I want. But do I have to pay more for this PA channel?
I tried it a few gigs but I just couldn’t get my kick thumpy enough with it. Even w/ our subs and lots of bottom. I had to use a separate kick mic. Also I tried to trigger percussion w/ it off a dtx pad but there wasn’t enough gain to really hear it. For monitoring it’s awesome. But for live I found my own mics worked better.
I see a lot of negative Nancy’s commenting here! This is an awesome device and is definitely worth looking into. I don’t feel this video is a very good representation of what this module can do? People saying the sound isn’t that great? Well, he only went through about maybe 10 of the 50 pre-set kits. Plus you can build your own kits, have yore own effects, etc. the unit is totally customizable. Plus, there’s about 700+ percussion and effects sounds built in, or you can download your own, or run your software from a laptop through it! Plus it has more inputs for triggers, pads, and foot switches. You can use it for recording or practice. And works great in a live setting. I’ve been using it for about 3 months and have gotten nothing but compliments on the way the kit sounds. I use the sensor unit to pick up the kit, just like overheads, and put a mic on the kick and I’m ready to go. The soundman doesn’t have to do a thing! This thing is way more capable of other things then what they show you in this, or many of the other videos on UA-cam.
So a module to trigger bass, options to trigger snare and toms seperate while putting whatever effects over what the mic is picking up. Sounds good for a drummer that needs better audio for youtube, while having nice sounds to practice to, and ease of tracking to project sent from other musicians ( via drop box and the app). Maybe its not for you, but i want it. Inspiration, triggers, uploads.
alan williams it’s also great in a live setting! I’ve used this since it came out in November and no longer need to use overheads or have to mic every drum! I set this up, mic the kick and I’m good to go!!! This thing is absolutely amazing!
Ja Guitar part of it has to do with the fact that it doesn't pick up the impact so to speak but the overall sound of the drum. The other part is this guy doesn't muffle his bass drum very much

super late to the game here. but wow what a trip. I dont mess with electronics but the swing of todays industry is leaning into it more and more. and this little gadget still resonates! I'm getting one for sure. thanks for the video. cheers
This drummer is weird. I dont understand his groove. Not a good example of grooves for yamaha. Im not sure what genre his playing mix of soft and strong.
It seems a bit limited from what the video displays. From a professional perspective I can't see a reliable or consistent use for it, but I think it would be really helpful for making covers quickly, practising with different samples, and might save you some money on investing in microphones and interface... Definently not a substitute though.
I expected the bass drum to sound the best because it was sampling/triggering it. It's a pretty neat idea actually. I don't think I'd buy one because a Zoom is sufficient
Thanks for such a comprehensive review. I just purchased one myself and will have it in a few days. What a great way to practice and review your own session, not to mention playing to other tracks. Just downloaded my rec n play app as well...thanks again!
Seems to work like overhead mics but w some effects & sampling. Thinking it is a great live application, great for social media drummers to have a quick set up, and for demos or quick recordings. If I were to take this product to the next level, I would probably want to figure out a way to mic the kick drum a little bit better.
Dallas Farmer I’ve heard it has some feedback issues due to how sensitive the mic is. Don’t take my word for it, but it’s very possible seeing as how it gets a wide picture of the set from just one mic.
theethanatorem there’s actually two condenser Mics inside the unit and you can adjust the gain. I’ve been using this live for the past 3 months and have had no issues. It’s great in a live setting. Very easy to use and set up! I don’t think the videos they show are a very good representation of this product? Plus there’s just not enough time to show all the capabilities!
I've been using the Yamaha's EAD 10 module in our band to get the drums' signal and send it to to our mixing console so that it can play it through the PA speakers in our setting. Soon, our sound mixing guy tells me that all the sound that is sent to the module into the auxiliary input from the the mixing console is passing by and being sent back to the mixing console together with the drums' signal from the output of the module. So for example, instead of just receiving the drums' sound in the mixing console from the module all the other instruments are being sent as well. Is it normal for this to happen? The sound mixing guy is asking me to configure so that just the drums' signal is sent to the mixing console through its output. Bur for some reason the signal that I receive to monitor and play on top of it is sent together with the drums' signal. Is this normal to happen? Is this a default setting from the factory? I've tried to look at the manuals but couldn't find anything regarding this matter. Would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you!
That’s cuz this mic picks up any sound from any instruments around you Man. Check the review of this mic from Sweetwater they don’t recommend it for live sessions just for solo ones :) Hope this helps
Hi guys, I have a question how it looks with the compatibility to other microphones and a sound system with this device? I am worried that there will be feedback on the sound system and that other instruments such as a bass or a guitar might cause noise. how do you see it? would be pleased about a feedback.
Ivo Hollenstein I’ve been using this for about 3 months now and can tell you, there are no issues with the Mics picking up the bass or guitars. This thing is great in a live setting, and the videos don’t really show everything that this unit is capable of!
I have a question! I’d really like to know if it’s possible to just hear your kit through the mic without any effects. Just the natural sound from the drums
I understand how it works but if you were using this device and shooting an instructional video where you play stop and talk how or can you set up mic for speaking as well? If not how are you running your speaking mic’s?
I run the drum section of a local music store. The rep pitched it to me today and I tried it out. It does have some cool features but I am thinking I'm more likely to get stuck with it for awhile. What do you think, should I buy in?
Do have to put the device on the batter loop? Or can it go on the other side . My Tom Toms sit low and I am really considering this for my first mic set up for recording! That’s like the only thing holding me back.
Not to sound like a bad person but how come you say there is no other mics but then when the overhead camera goes on you see mics in front of the bass drum
Does that play along feature work with protected songs, eg., songs that you get from Apple Music? I have a cool app (Anytune) that slows down music but it won’t work with those Apple Music songs in my library- I have to go download the songs and that’s a pain. Pls let me know..
How many inches is the trigger? I have a cowbell over my bass drum hoop on the batter side setup just like Dave Weckl. Because you said it picks up your whole kit from a 4 ft radius, could the EAD10 be mounted on the reso side bass drum hoop at 12 o clock? Also what would happen if you hook the EAD10 up at 1 o clock or 5 o clock whether on the batter or reso side? Would you still get the same result as the EAD10 at 12 o clock batter side?
I also want to know. I'm thinking of getting RTOMs and L80s for my kit to play without disturbing the neighbours too much, but would ideally like to also be able to record drums for my own project, maybe get into doing sessions for people etc.. Wondering if this would be a better and cheaper option than buying a trigger module and additional triggers or even buying a multi channel interface, micing it all up and then messing about with the eq and everything of each mic in a DAW.
it wouldn't be the best option. You would have to buy all of the additional triggers because it uses a condenser mic to pick up everything except the bass drum. You could buy a different product to do that.
Does anyone know how to send a recorded video from rec n share app to instagram? When I hit the send > button in the app it doesn’t give me any options on where to send??? Thanks!
Great review! I am considering an EAD10 and have 2 questions and was wondering if you have an idea about them: 1. Can you use different samples for different velocities? I have some That Sound samples and they have 5 different velocity samples per snare. Is it possible to load them in so that they trigger accordingly to how hard you hit the snare? 2. Is is possible to set up the EAD10 in a way that you only get the sampled kick and snare (so I could use them and add other mics too it) and you can seperate them in the outputs? Would be awesome if someone knew!
Wow, I'm way behind in all the tools everyone is using for "Uploading" quality sound in covers. A lot of legends and teachers are using this for lessons especially. Just bought one with added trigger for 10pc. All ya "Haters" need to refrain from commenting if you have nothing nice to say. "Sound" is always an individual preference. This device is to help get "your" sound heard without going in $2-3,000 for studio recording. Some of just want to play and enjoy sharing what we play.
The beauty of this thing, is when playing live, all you need is the stereo condenser Mics that are inside the trigger. Set up is ver6 easy and minimal. Don’t need overheads or individual Mics on each drum. Plus you can add triggers and pads to it and don’t need to carry around a bunch of extra gadgets like cowbells, tambourines, etc. or all the heavy hardware to mount it. Or you can add you own samples, record and upload to all your social media outlets, and have complete control over your mix. This thing is a lot more useful then you think. If you haven’t tried out, you should!!!
I have just bought one, this is outstanding. Live gigs are a breeze from them just being mics to making you're drums sound amazing, well done Yamaha.
It’s good for live performances?
